2021 Desolation Wilderness - Creekside Campsite

To be honest, I wasn't sure I wanted to post this video. It's the only trip that I took this summer and it wasn't a raging success. Swarmed by mosquitoes, I spent most of the time complaining - who wants to see that? But instead of posting my usual overlong video, I cut this one WAY back and removed much of the monologue - just the trail and campsite facts only. The last couple of years, depression has taken hold of me making it really hard to get ready to hike and then the fire season killed off the rest of the hiking season. NEXT YEAR DAMMIT!

Such a beautiful area. I can't wait to get back out this year. When you pointed the lens towards the ground I had to laugh. That is something I would do. The bear at the beginning of the video, Did you see him on this trip or was that the same bear in the other video? Beautiful animal!

That bear was one of my alltime fav moments EVER. I had just decided to attach my camera to my chest strap so that it would be as accessible as possible and sure enough, as I was hiking down, this enormous bear was hiking up. I had the camera out and recording while leaning up against a tree for extra stability in 3 seconds flat. Holding a camera still is a skill that I'm proud of, but that was a real challenge. My heart was pounding from the hike and the excitement of the bear and then there was that 1/100 of a second that I thought the bear saw me and was still racing forward. It was a miracle that I got any useful footage at all.

That was the prettiest bear I've ever seen - a real beauty!

cool im going up this way in 2 weeks, going in this way and then up mosquito pass then out horsetail. hoping the bags are not too bad

The mosquitoes were terrible early in the season, we just did the Wrights Beauty loop, too hot even to go to enchanted. The fires really add to any depression. Take care if yourself.

When you had your camera operator malfunction and started talking about Google Earth, I thought you might need to show those satellite images in lieu of camera footage but fortunately the operator corrected the problem quickly.
Just like in Dune, you sought the safety of rock. I've done the same when the water courses were full of mosquitoes. An open area well away from and above the water with a little bit of wind is ideal.
I noticed some jitter and other artifacts of camera motion that I haven't seen in your previous videos. Are you using a different camera or editing software or such?
