I am an economist and have two small children. I worked since I am 16 till my first child was born. I was 33 years old at that time. Since 4 years I am staying home. I get criticised from preople who know me from college and earlier that I am "throwing my talents and education" away for my family and that I am hiding "in my kitchen". These people think that I am not aware of anything. But I think that they are not aware that I have changed, that I dont have the same goals they have. Everyone is choosing their own path and I want my children to have a great childhood with love and cozyness with me being present. I can always earn money, but my children have only one childhood.

Oh my goodness, I so admire people like you who have made a real financial sacrifice to take care of your family and children!:)
I think it is quite sad that we could put down someone who has chosen the more noble decision despite how difficult it might have been, in order to do what they know is right.
I haven’t gone to college and have never been too invested in a job and honestly I am sort of thankful for that because i think it would have been much harder to leave, I hope I would have still done it though if it was the right thing for my family.
I love being here, tending to the ones I love the most every day. 💕
Thank you so much for this beautiful comment!❤️❤️

@@BecauseitMatters Thank you so much for your kind comment❣ Stepping back from my job wasnt that hard. But finding myself in my new role as a mother and someone who has to take care of a family wasnt that easy. And in my opinion creating a real home is much harder than we think. I always say it is more challenging that everything I have done before. A friend of mine who thought I am "hiding in my kitchen" just didint get that home is at the moment where my family needs me the most. We both lost our fathers at a young age. The difference is the effect that it had on us. He tries everything to get "financial security" and I try my best to make the most of the time I have with my loved ones. At the end of the day thats what matters the most❣

Omg this blessed me. Especially that last line. I’m 33. This is my second year staying home and homeschooling my oldest. I struggled at first because I felt like I needed to contribute financially. But it was God who told me to leave my job and to finally do what I desired....teach me own children.

I’m 25 and in school, but I do want to be a homemaker one day. I’ve had similar thoughts about how if I stayed at home, I would feel like a failure. However, the more I discover myself as a woman I’m beginning to understand the importance of being a woman. Homemaking and raising children is VALUABLE! People push a very masculine narrative on women unfortunately, and that causes them to feel less than if they aren’t acting in their masculine. Feminism has not helped either. Being a feminine woman, having children, and raising them inside of a warm home that YOU have created should not be devalued. 🏡🌸💕

Oh my goodness! I 100% agree with you! I find it so funny that by radical feminists saying there are utterly no differences between men and women, and that women need to act like men, that not only are they denying all of men’s wonderful, unique gifts and talents, but also everything that makes us women unique and beautiful, like nurture, compassion, care, deep love, etc.

As a Christian I lean on Christ for all our needs, and I do have a church family/my biological family to lean on just in case, as for the financial my husband’s job set us for life if he ever passed away. My mom was an RN and when I told her my plan to be a stay at home mom, she called me an underachiever! Lol!
Years later, after my children were grown, she told me what a great mother I was.
Neither of those words moved me because I made the decision in my heart before I was ever married. I always just wanted to grow up and be a mom. I got married at 19, I told my husband, before we were married, that I would never work full time. I may work part time once the kids were grown, but I would never work full time.
This meant only one vehicle most of the time. A smaller home, no fancy vacations, and on and on. These are sacrifices I gladly made to stay home with my children. I don’t regret a second of it.
We can’t let society or even our families pressure us into something we’re not called to do.

I'm sick and tired from the pushback I get for becoming a homemaker. I can ignore strangers easily, however it's hurtful when it's your own family. My father was so upset I didn’t "use" my degree. He would always imply that I need to work, especially now that my kids are older. My mother was a stay at home mom until she decided to work as a cashier at boscovs. I was in high-school at the time. She probably thought she was 'helping out' by making money , however, she wasn't there for me when perhaps I needed her most. Interesting how society thinks it's only okay to stay home with a baby (and only for 6 weeks!). I changed my friendship circle and it literally dwindled to nothing at one moment. I felt secluded at first, but now I'm learning to let go.

Teenagers NEED their parents as much as children do but for different help. Many parents have no idea what happens in public schools and locker rooms. They are ignorant of psychological or physical bullying. They don't see when their children are being pressured into sex or drugs. They are too busy making their bosses money rather than achieving anything lasting at work. Teens need guidance and for someone to show up at competitions and performances. People just want easy parenting (which I don't consider parenting at all at that point). Stay at home parents are valuable even in the teen stages.

I'm a husband and my wife stayed home and raised our kids. I wouldn't trade it for the world. It was better for all of us and I believe it made all of our lives easier. When our youngest turned 16 my wife went and got her real estate license. It was something she always wanted to do. Now the kids are grown and my wife's extra income will help boost us into retirement. Your kids are only kids for a blink. There will be plenty of time for careers later if you want one.

I am always so happy when young women learn this at an early age. I was always a stay at home mom and housewife and was always getting "those comments" that were meant to make me feel less than those that worked. The wives at my husband's work gatherings acted as if I must be unmotivated to work or that I must be terribly dull to put up with housekeeping. I let that bother me for years. It wasn't until my son was raised, that I FINALLY had that lightbulb moment---I had a wonderful life , and my family had a wonderful life---great food, clean and comfortable home, food raised by me organically and fresh.
So--young ladies out there---if this is your passion, realize now---you are sooooooo important. Raise those kids right so that when they go out into the world , they are prepared and loved.

I think the majority of people in society don't realize that a career does not equal success for all people, that slow living is not a failure, and that keeping a nice home/being available for your family is a huge blessing to your husband, kids and even older relatives who you may end up caring for. Something people also don't realize is that when your husband has his own unique role and you have your own unique role, your family runs much smoother from my experience than when both partners are trying to do everything all the time and splitting things 50/50. I take a lot of pride in keeping a nice home, keeping everyone's stomach full, being available for loved ones and literally creating new life! 😊 This is not valuable to corporate America or western society but it is extremely valuable to the people I care about. 😌

I'm also a SAHM and I didn't always think I'd be one. Yes i always wanted to be married and have kids. But i didn't have a career goal. Never felt that career drive. Went to college for 7 years and got 2 associates degree yet got a job that was unrelated to my studies let alone only part time. Thinking back I know God put me to be home with my child to raise her and run the household. My husband makes enough for us to survive plus works LONG hours. Only makes sense for me to stay home. It's good to know I'm not a failure in life just cuz I'm not career oriented.
I have a childhood friend from 20 years ago and i just reconnected with her a year ago. She keeps telling me to upgrade my skills/education and get a job when my toddler is older incase something happens and I'm not longer with my husband (he's the sole breadwinner). Yes God calls certain people to be doctors, nurses, hairdressers, etc. I know in my heart put me with my husband for a reason.

I'm a 44 year old SAH unschooling mama of 5 kids. I chose to drop out of college 23 years ago to dedicate my life to my family and my home.
When I chose this lifestyle my family and friends told me I was wasting my life by not getting a career and that I was ruining my children's life by unschooling them.
Over two decades later, NONE I mean NONE of their doom predictions have come true.
I have a relationship to my children (all adults and teens now) that many parents dream about having with their kids.
My teens have always been a delight and we are best friends! My adult children are thriving in their careers and lives, and my teens are confident that they can also conquer the world when they're ready to take off.
There are so many wonderful things in our lives that have been a direct result of the choice I made, but I would have to write a book to talk about them all!
I support all women in whatever path they chose for themselves and their families. However, I have zero regrets about my choice to be a SAH unschool mom and would do it all again with out hesitation.
Take it from this veteran mama, never let the fears and ignorance of others get in the way of you doing what you know if best for your kiddos and yourself❣
I'm not religious, btw, so my choice was always mine and mine alone, and not out of religious/cultural duty. I thought it was important to make this point because us secular SAH homeschooling mamas tend to get a lot of criticism from our non-religius community. Maybe this encourages my fellow secular mamas out there to keep on doing your thing, and that you can still be still be a kick-ass feminist because it's YOUR choice.
Also, we're not rich by any means, but we learned to be smart with our single income. It's possible to have a nice life on a budget!

This channel has helped me so much, and I’m sure it’s helped many other homemakers as well. I just started homemaking, but it’s been my dream, and I’ve felt this drive to take care of a family for as long as I can remember. However, I started getting extremely insecure after people were telling me “homemaking is for lazy women.” Or “Well regular working women so the laundry and clean, and take care of kids while working a full time job as well. Why can’t you?” And it really hurt my feelings in a way..it made me feel like I wasn’t appreciated or I wasn’t important in the home. But I love having a welcoming home, being supportive and caring towards my husband, the dogs, and I want to be present more often in my children lives when we do have children. It’s just so hard trying to explain to people that I’m not lazy, and I do actually get very, very busy during the day. So, when we I get down on myself or hear another negative comment, I come here. ❤️

    • @BecauseitMatters
      @BecauseitMatters  2 роки тому +5

Awe, that makes me so happy to think that this channel could feel like an encouragement to you. ❤️❤️
I find it funny that we are so quick to say that being a nanny is a great job, worthy of good pay, and respect, and yet a woman who tends to her own children and home 24/7 is assumed to be lazy and should be “doing more.” It seems a little ridiculous if you ask me. 😂
While I’m sure juggling a career and children is rather difficult and no one says it’s not, I know many stay at home moms who are literally some of the most hard working people that I know, that probably dream of having a drive to work every morning without their kids, a break from them throughout the day, a job where they are actually acknowledged for what they have to offer, a ladder they can see progress as they work up.
All that to say, don’t get discouraged. This world is so confused about what actually matters, and where true value can be found. ❤️❤️
I personally love being there to watch every moment as my children grow up, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but not because it’s in any way “easier” then a regular job, in fact it’s by far while the most fulfilling of things I’ve ever done, also most definitely the hardest. ❤️❤️
Blessings to you. And sorry for the book. 😂😂

I was doing the SMM while I watched my son but I missed sooo many precious moments. Ive been now fully focused as a stay at home mama since October. A part of me feels relieved, but also lonely in this journey! This video has definitely come to me at the right time 🙏

New sub. Great video. So true. Why would you choose a career where ultimately, the people there don't care about you. You are a cog in the machine. At the end of your life, will you remember that career or the loving and cherished memories of your family and children. People forget this. Being at home is the number one job. I was raised by a homemaker while my dad worked and I'm now a homemaker. I have two university degrees and never used them. Do I feel like a failure? Heck no! Being a good wife is my most important job. 😊

What a great video!!! I hung on to every word. We got married when I was 19, I'm 29 now, and I have only just begun to see my value as a homemaker. I struggled for nearly 10 years!!!! I am so grateful for this year of my life because of this acceptance and appreciation I now have for my life. It feels so good! I have struggled with feeling judged by others and even my own mother because she would make me feel like I was taking wrongful advantage of my husband and his family, who are always there to help if we need it. It made me feel horrible and my mother's words became my inner voice about my own life. I have since developed a healthy "screw it" attitude and embrace this life.
I have so much time to do the things I love like you!! I get to read, I've learned how to crochet, I've discovered that I enjoy yardwork as well, and I have been baking more recently which I love. Staying home is such a blessing!

I really appreciate your sharing your thoughts. I was home full-time for 8 years when my kids were very little. I then got a casual job working a few days a month in the medical field. It has been the best decision ever, to focus on staying at home to take care of my family! I work with many people (doctors, nurses) who have chosen careers, and I respect their dedication tremendously, but I do not want to be like them. When I hear them talk about rushing here with their kids and rushing there and living this fast-paced busy, busy life, paying someone to clean their homes and take care of their children, it makes me extremely grateful to be able to spend my life focusing on homemaking skills and making a loving home for my family. It's definitely what I feel called to do. It's really nice to find a like-minded person such as yourself who understands this. =)

I am a homeschool mom and this is only my 2nd year, so there's many times that I have felt this this sort of embarrassment at times or felt bad about staying home and teaching my children, and even sometimes people make comments that it's not good for my children. I do struggle with insecurity at times and so this video is helping me to see more clearly that I don't need to feel bad that I'm raising my children... I'm doing what I believe God has called me to do. I need to stand by that and be proud of it.😁❤ This makes me cry because I start to believe a lie and it really gets in there...I realize I really am thankful to be home and stay with my kids, although we do have some very hard days, Lol! Yes, I agree, creating godly, healthy marriages for stable, peaceful, thriving communities is so vital to the overall health of a country. It is sadly overlooked, or looked down upon sometimes.

My dream career is to sustain the Grateful Homemaker Lifestyle.
Being a (part-time) homemaker is fulfilling, tranquil, and allows time to contemplate my life and experiences I’ve endured regarding childhood trauma.
I feel most in-alignment w/ my Christianity when homemaking. I’m able to live life compared to just exist as the days briefly past. I was depressed when I had full-time employment externally from the home. Gloomily, women are taken-for-granted in the United States unrealistically competitive workforce. And let’s not mention some women who want to be “alphas” or “boss ladies” just to let men walk-over-them in hopes of fitting-in.
I refuse to follow unethical trends that separate faith and life purposes. I choose to proudly God. I choose to be a good individual by following my moral compass.
I truly enjoyed watching this Informative video.

Bravo!!!! Being a homemaker rocks, I love it. I loved staying home and raising my son. I was always shocked thinking about everything parents miss while at work, even the two hours after school when kids are at a babysitters. There was so much in that time that I am so grateful for. My son is amazing and so much different than most kids his age. First thing my fourteen year old does when he comes home, he gives me a kiss and a hug. He loves being home, something I hated as a kid. My home life was miserable. He loves his home life, does he get everything he wants, not even close. We are a one income house and he has learned to know the difference between need and want. He barely ever asks for anything, I mostly get him stuff I think he would like and he appreciates everything. A computer or a game can't raise a loving, happy person, we see it everyday.

I loved teaching the kids, I felt like I wasn't appreciated as a music teacher either - many had the mindset of the arts don't matter, the core subjects do only. I have a private student on occasion for flute lessons but I love being home for my kids. There are days I feel I failed and there are days I feel I thrived, I take things in stride, and even on the bad days I feel so fulfilled.

Most women hate working. Most women don't want to work. Most women want to be homemakers and housewifes and women cannot be homemakers or housewifes until they get married, so they cannot be forced to prepare. All women don't work. Women don't have to work. They need to stop forcing women to work. Women should work only if they want to work. If they don't they cannot be shamed. Not all women have the same goals or interests in life. Most women don't want to attend college. Most women don't want to own a business. Not all women are the same. Women need to be respected. If women only want to work a few days a week or a few days per month that is okay. If other women want to work 5 days a week or every single day that is also okay. A lot of women get gaslighted at work so they hate working and they get emotionally drained, depleted and framed. I support women who don't work, don't want to work or work a few times a week. Women need to be allowed to be themselves. All women are different. Women need to be respected. If a woman wants to workout every single day and not work - then she doesnt have to work. If a woman wants to meditate and go for walks every single day - then she doesnt have to work. If a woman wants to babysit or spend time with her family - then she doesn't have to work. If a woman wants to volunteer or do charity - then she doesnt have to work. Stop forcing women to be women they dont want to be. Respect women who don't work. All women work even if they don't work. Not all women are money hungry. I do whatever I want to do with my life because it's my life and nobody can
control it. I live my life however I want to live it because it's my life. If a woman wants to own a business - then to each their own. Women have to be respected. Just because a woman doesn't work that doesn't mean she is lazy or doesn't work. We need to stop shaming women.

It is so funny how your goals change from the age of 19 to 29. As a degreed women I went from wanting to be at the top of my career to now wanting to create a beautiful home and be able to create a future where I can be there as a homemaker for my children now & when they have children. I will work on & off over the years, but I will always work with my husband to put our family 1st. 👪 It is a beautiful thing and 3 years in I am just learning how yo define success in the role as a Homemaker.

My mom was (and is) a stay at home wife. I always judged her for this as she was not able to take care of herself financially and always has to have a husband to pay for her life. She is on her third marriage and I don’t think she would have married #2 if she didn’t think she had to in order to continue staying at home. I grew up knowing that I would be self sufficient regardless of a husband to avoid following in my moms footsteps. This is my primary goal and I don’t think I will ever want to become a stay at home wife. Thank you for posting this video as I am seeing stay at home wife’s in a slightly different way now. It’s still not for me (makes me feel uncomfortably vulnerable and I love my job and feel fulfilled by it) but I appreciate the context you provided to help me view in a more positive light.

I very been at home for more than 30 years. I don't know how women can cram all the work I do throughout the week into a weekend. I couldn't live that kind if life. We homeschooled and did most things as a family.
