THE BIGGEST Railroad Crossing with 50 Signals
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лип 2021
- This is the biggest railroad crossing I've ever seen! It sports 50 signals , crossing gates , huge cantilevers , cross bucks and traffic lights even! You can find it on Okeechobee Blvd and Tamarind Avenue on the SFRTA ( South Florida Regional Transportation Authority ) train tracks in West Palm Beach , Florida just shy of where the railway becomes CSX property once again. In addition to CSX freight the line also sees Tri rail and Amtrak trains daily. I wonder what a crossing malfunction looks like here! Nearby there's an abandoned railroad which l filmed a few years ago and have to return to film. These tracks are also close to the FEC Florida East Coast Railway tracks which are just a few blocks East of here. If anyone out there knows how to get accident statistics for crossings, I'd love to know how many have happened here! I'd love to think none, but l know there are always idiot drivers out there, specially in South Florida where they are a dime a dozen! For you guys and gals living in other states, I ask, do other railroad companies like Union Pacific , BNSF , Norfolk Southern ,
Metra , and whatever other shortline or class 1 or 2 ... Have you ever seen a crossing of this size installed by them? This is certainly a historic RXR and speaking of history , this line was built by Seaboard Air Line in 1926 then it became SCL Seaboard Coast Line and Seaboard Systems and eventually in 1986 CSX.

That was incredible, I've never seen one quite like that
You and me both my friend. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Rich!
People say: Go big or go home. This is beyond just big. I say that this is the god of crossings.
LOL Good one! Yes, that is something people say often and l bet you the signal installer here said, "Big, HA! I'm going to make big look small after I'm thru here!"
In a word-DAMN! That thing is freaking humongous, and I would purely love to see it in action, especially at night so the lights can really pop! I hope you’re going back to catch it with a train there someday-great catch, Roly!
We don’t have them as big up where I live, but it’s a rural county. The train tracks in the county seat used to be level with a main road, but they got built higher and made into rail overpasses both because of the high volume of freight rail traffic and because of the number of car vs. train collisions before then. The old passenger station has since become the city police department building, but it still has the railroad station flavor, so that’s something. If you ever make it up this way, I can show you the local railroad history that way. Stay safe out there!
You bet I will be heading back to get this bad boy in action! This is like the Eiffel Tower for railfans lol. That sounds like a cozy town to visit. My gf and l will be visiting CN in the Fall; that is about 2 states away right? Thanks as always for the support, DD.
@@railrol82 Actually, it’s more like three or four states away, since it’s on the other side of NYC. But since I’m in the western part of Maryland, it falls under the heading of “close enough for jazz.” Glad to hear you’re taking a well-deserved trip-you’ve earned it. Stay safe out there, and keep an eye out for that crossing in action-we’d love to see that!
@@dragondancer1814 I never heard that one before, close enough for jazz! I like it. Thanks as always for the support!
wow, that's crazy, you weren't kidding! 🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥🚥
I'd never thought I'd see something like this. Thanks as always for the views and comments, B&O!
Wow!! Awesome!! The biggest railroad crossing I have ever seen. This must be so cool in action. Maybe you should make a video of this crossing when it is in action. I would love to see that
Yes ma'am! You read my mind, I will definitely be going back here to catch it in action. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Georgette.
I remember seeing this crossing on Milleniumforce's channel, I even tried to recreate the crossing.
He filmed here too? Nice! Yes, this is an EPIC RXR!!!
Thanks as always for the views and comments!
Yes, I can not remember seeing any railroad crossing with this many crossing and traffic signal lights anywhere else I've traveled up and down the eastern USA. I knew there are alot, but didn't think it had that many! Enjoyed this post from downtown West Palm Beach, FL.
Good Afternoon Duane, sorry for the delayed response, I've had a lot on my plate lately. So you've been up and down the Eastern USA and have never seen anything larger than this wow! So I guess that would make it the biggest RXR in the Eastern USA. Hope all is well. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
Heck of a crossing I would guess that it is a busy one? Too bad we didn’t get to see it in operation? Great video thanks for posting enjoyed it. Going to Vegas for the weekend order a T shirt when I get back. Edward
Hope you enjoyed your weekend in Vegas, Ed! I will definitely be returning here to film it in action.
Railway company: "we need signal!"
Signal Manufacturer: "How many"?
Railway company: "All of the signal"!!
LOL You speak facts my friend. Thanks as always for the views and comments, R!
YOU'VE GOT TO TAPE this one in action ;-)
You can bet your bottom dollar on that my friend! Thanks as always!
👍👍 That is one big crossing! It must light up like a Christmas tree. As for the shirts you should make a website with pictures of all the designs.
Good suggestion, DP! I will definitely return here to get this bad boy in action. Hope all is well!
wow!!! What a monster!! I will have to check it out on my next Florida trip. I always land in west palm beach... Can't wait to get a T-shirt. Great video. Stay safe my friend..
Hey John, yes, this is the Eiffel Tower of railroad crossings! Believe me, you will not be disappointed. I'm working on more shirt designs, Voodoo Chicken and maybe even an Overseas Railroad 2021. I'm open to suggestions!
Wow now that is a massive crossing! That's definitely a nice location to add to your crossing list! Love the shirts buddy they are awesome!! Going to have to think about what I want and put a order in!
I'm on the quest for big crossing my friend! I'm open to shirt designs too, so if you have one, please feel free to let me know. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Blake!
Great video RailROL! That was a pile of crossing signals! Wow!
I wonder if there's a larger one out there somewhere... Thanks as always for the views and comments, Mark. Hope all is well.
I'm glad that you finally went to this crossing!
Me too, this RXR is amazing! Thanks as always for the views and comments.
jesus christ I dont think I have ever seen a crossing this large. Definitely love the way you do your videos!
Thank you very much for your kind words, Justin. I really appreciate that!
oh man you weren't kidding! This Railroad Crossing is Huge I though the one in the Last Video was Huge but this Tops that!
Goodness gracious, yes! I thought I had seen it all, but this is the top of the mountain here!
WOW! That is a BIG crossing gate system in place at that location. I can understand why they have so many flashing lights and gates with all that traffic that goes through that intersection. I doubt is there are any vehicles going through this railroad crossing and intersection that go at the speed limit if they have the green light for their lane of traffic. Thank you for showing us the safety precautions that the railroad has put in place to prevent train vs. vehicle traffic incidents. But as you said in the video, you doublt that there have been no accidents at this railroad crossing and vehicle intersection.
Someone shared an FRA page with me once where it shows all the statistics for every crossing in the US, but I can't seem to find it right now. I wonder about that one idiot who always tries to beat the gates, you know in every city there's one of those! Thanks as always for the support my friend.
@@railrol82 Here is a link to the FRA Office of Safety Analysis website. I do not have time to look through all of the links here but in your leisure time you might be able to find the link to the portion of the website that gives you the information on accidents at a given railroad crossing. safetydata.fra.dot.gov/OfficeofSafety/default.aspx
I was about to hit the "comment" button and realized that I had not added the above link.
cool R you rock thanks for the signals , hey if you ever want to come to see where Amtrak send there old cars or not in use any longer. Come to Granite city Ill outside of St Louis Mo and thats where they areit would be very cool and in outside of St Louis is the dept of Transportation on the U P line. they got all old and some new trains it amazing thanks Mijo and i enjoyed the signal catches :-)
So basically that is the Amtrak grave yard up there! Sounds like an interesting place. Is it fenced off or accessible? I'm glad you enjoyed it mijo! Hope all is well.
@@railrol82 well no also you can see it from the Highway, its amazing :-) and i hope is well also, its all good here and staying safe hope you are is well. Thanks
Wensday Morning with what might be the biggest railroad crossing in the world, Awesome as always, I love the shirt ! And the intro .
I'm catching up on old comments my friend, thanks as always. And yeah, you might be right, it could very well be the biggest crossing in the whole wide world! What an honor lol. Thanks again for the support my dude. I wish I could shake your hand!
That's one huge crossing! Nice close up of the shirt, awesome video my boy!!
Thank you very much my friend! As always l appreciate your support and kind words.
That is only a two track crossing though.
In Wichita, Kansas. East 29th Street crosses 14 tracks at one gated crossing, situated adjacent to the intersection with North Broadwy Avenue.
Insane! Not even here has that many lights. The most i see is probably 16-20 lights. Florida really likes big crossings
Yeah Metra, the signal maintainer here was not about to be outdone by any crossing! Thanks as always for the support!
Ah! Congrats on this uniquely original find, you, the Indiana Jones, Archeologist of the Railroad and other related stuff. Always look forward to the next video. It is rumored that when that particular crossing is activated that FL&P (Florida Light & Power) experiences a 45% high voltage drop in that area when that crossing is activated.
I'm so honored to be compared to Indiana Jones! I love those movies. LOL @ 45% voltage drop in the area!! You hit a homerun with that comment, J. Thank you for the kind words and support. Hope all is well!

It's a real pleasure talking to someone who can appreciate all the small details. I film what I'd like to see in a video. Thank you so much sir!
The old Lakeland train station is now completely removed and demolished but the parking lot is still there and I think that is the place where they're putting the new bright line station for Lakeland
Wow, sorry to hear that. I remember going there its last days and it was pretty sad. Thanks as always for the views and comments, Apollo!
@@railrol82 also the railroad that I will have I will try to make it solely a Florida class 1 freight railroad with passenger service on the East Coast from key West to Maine and key West to Seattle Washington and follow the empire builder towards the east coast and reconnect in Maine to the east coast passenger line
@@apollogamingeverything8011 Sounds like a plan, Apollo! Let me know when you have it all ready so l can document it!
With a RXR that HUGE, are commercial vehicles (tractor-trailers, school buses) exempt from stopping at the crossing (green lights, deactivated crossing)?
I would assume they are required to stop unless clearly stated with an exempt sign. Thanks as always for the support, William!
Okeechobee Blvd. Crossing near The Passenger Station has grown since my day as a child there. My best recollections of this crossing are from its S. C. L. Days. From 1967 -1975, this crossing changed very little. I remember three ctossbicks with gates, two of which had the overhead lights of one group each.
So back in your day there weren't 50 signals here, John? I know urban sprawl has happened all over the place since the good old SCL days. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
It was only 4 lanes with a merging lanes going from east to west on the Northside of the road...
@@johne.porter1298 Wow, how times have changed. Hope you're having a good week!

Dam that's a lot of signals, awesome railroad crossing.
I knew you'd like it! Thanks as always for the support, Celio!
Wow so huge! I like how they included the traffic signals.
If I was the RR company, I'd be like, get your own place to hang the signals!
@@railrol82 Haha exactly! Charge them $20 to put their traffic signals up.
@@KevinPlaysGuitar I like the way you think!
I really love those F40'S.♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Look like an ultimate in crossing signals and the signal bridges! Like to see one of those made for Lionel O gauge layouts and also in HO and N scale as well.
That is quite a suggestion, Denny! I'd love to see one of these in an O gauge layout. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
Look at the power going into that cantilever!
Happy Wednesday Roly!!

Szép videó lett!😀👍👍👍
Köszönöm, mint mindig, a csatornám támogatását, barátom
That is amazing! Wow
Great minds think alike! Thanks as always for the views and comments!
I'd say that's an insane number of flasher pairs, but with one pair for each of the 4 traffic lanes in each direction, plus two dedicated turning lanes and signals for those making turns from the street parallel to the cantelevers, plus a pair for each gate, including at least one pedestrian walk, it makes sense. But I also have to say that this makes me miss the industrial track crossings with just a pair of crossbucks. Also, a level crossing like this would likely give someone from British Rail a heart attack. No way such a setup would be acceptable across the pond. Cheers from Wisconsin!
You bring up so many interesting points my friend. I see what you mean about how this kind of crossing would make you miss a simple industry track cross buck. And you're right about this giving someone from the UK a heart attack haha! Hope all is well, Andrew. Thanks as always for the views and comments!
HOLY PRIMUS. mk if you manage to find another one BIGGER than that, OR this crossing ACTIVE, you will legally be clasified as a legend.
LOL Let's just say l will be heading back there to get it in action! Thanks as always for the support, BM!
@@railrol82 Absolutely! Quality content as always R82. Quality content as always...
@@BrickMasterB06 I really appreciate that thanks!
We have got to see that one in action some time Roly.
Yes sir, you bet l will definitely be returning here to see this bad boy in action. It will be happening during the day because this is a rough neighborhood to be in nocturnally. As is shown by a bullet riddled relay case nearby! Hope all is well. Thanks again!
Running behind schedule today. Seeing these lights in depth puts that set in Madison at maybe 20 signals max. While the train Xing is tough enough Id hate to be a pedestrian. I would think having both the stop and go lights and RR Xing signals all together actually keeps the motorist focused with no blocked vision or where they would stop on the tracks. Your going thru heavy traffic reminds me of the Xway scene in the movie Bowfinger. Trust you survived the storm.OK
LOL @ the highway scene in Bowfinger! Funny thing is I bet there is one idiot that despite the 50 signals still tries to beat the train! Hope all is well Paul!
Wow that like 2 times more then the one you reviewed 2-3 weeks ago!
You're absolutely right my friend! That one is 26, this is almost double!

That is enormous, especially that relay bungalow. Holy cow to the 3rd power.
"Relay bungalow." LOL
I've heard it called that before. Funny thing is there's a relay bungalow a few blocks from here that looks like Swiss Cheese all full of bullet holes. I think that would make a great video, however, I think I might need a bullet proof vest and AK 47 as back up.
@@railrol82 oof, I'll pass on visiting that lmao **runs away in fear**. But I originally was going to say relay case, but I thought nahhh.
