    Thank you. My fuel gauge stopped working today. At least now I can be prepared.

    The fuel gauge hasn't worked on my JD 4200 for several years. I thought the mice might have chewed a wire. Yesterday, I decided to take a look behind the instrument panel and couldn't see any chewing on the wires. So, I decided to check UA-cam to see if anyone else had the same problem and found your video. Thanks for the info! I don't care to spend hundreds of dollars to fix a problem that JD should be taking care of, since this appears to be a common defect.

      Personally the reason we replaced it was for the temp gauge I didn't really care about the fuel one. Keep in mind the sending units go bad regularly for both those so even replacing the dash isn't a guarantee. Thanks for watching!

      @@ILGuy2012 hmm good question.. Im not certain but ill dig into it and see. They're so cheap it would be worth just replacing it but it would be good to know how to test it.

    I just saw this was from 3 years ago so i hope you see this. Have you ever tested the fuel sending unit? Do you know what voltage is sent to it? Not sure of the year but we have a 4410 and the fuel gauge is always pegged well beyond full when the key is on, it will be roughly at 5:30 lol. I cant remember what it might be when the key is off. I checked with my volt meter and was only reading 1.4 volts at the center post on the sending unit.

      lanny boston it’s probably the exact same thing. It’s a common issue on these tractors. Which is why I didn’t mind using something not OEM since the OEM was crap. Keep in mind that the sending unit might be bad too which looks like is the case in my tractor so I’ve got to replace both. I’ll have a video on that later this month.

    I just did this replacement on 7/23 /21. It’s not a job for the faint of heart, but it is doable. I also replaced the cowl plastic parts. It’s all good now. Instrument pastel #lva10560 can be bought on eBay for $265.00, John Deere wants $675.00 just look around on eBay.

    I Have a 4400 , I have had almost all the same issues that you have posted so far. The Not starting and the whole works. I now have a problem where the tractor quit running while driving it, and now has power to the switch but will not turn starter over but the dash lights up also fuel solenoid doesn't click either. So all the power from the switch has been disconnected. Not sure I will ever buy another green tractor after this one. Old ones were good new one has been issues one after another and it only has 1200 hrs. also all the plastic hood etc cracked into bits and never been hot with anything!!

    • @timberlinetactical
      @timberlinetactical  3 роки тому

      Yeah plastic hood is junk... sounds like you have a safety switch going bad. Jump them and see if you’re still having the same problem.

    My situation exactly, both gauges are dead, but the tach works….2 questions: can you fix the cluster instead of replacing it AND where are you getting your cowlings and other plastic from? I see a lot of aftermarket sources but not sure which is best……I have a 4300
    any help would be appreciated. TIA…..Mark

    Great video- did it really solve your issues with the temperature gauge pegging the HOT side? My 1999 4300 is doing the same thing. Everything else works fine and I have replaced the sending unit. Just wish it was easier to mess with to fix the issue. Great Video wish you had shown the finished product with the tractor running. Thanks for the help!

    • @timberlinetactical
      @timberlinetactical  3 роки тому

      Thank you! Unfortunately it didnt fix the issue of the temperature gauge. Im not sure if my sending unit is bad so im going to replace that next. I kept the original gauge set so I can reinstall it and see if the sending unit was the actual problem. It did fix the gas gauge but its also having problems again which is interesting. sometimes it starts up and works other times it doesn't seem to want to send the information. that may be a bad gauge on the replacement unit. Im going to keep working with it and update a part two to the video.

      @@timberlinetactical Thanks for the update. I was starting to think I'd replace the gauge set too but now I think I'll hold back. I have a mobile mechanic coming out soon to fix my suspension seat on this 4300 as it broke this summer. I think I will have him look at it and see if he can find a short or what is going on. Just find it interesting that so many owners of this series of tractor are having these same issues as the units have aged. Not a good thing on JD behalf! Thank you again for your help. I'll let you know what I find out if anything.

      @@timberlinetactical now I am not sure what to do, i have a 1999 4400 and the gas gage reads full when empty and then pegs far right when full. The temp gage moves way past hot after a couple of minutes of warm up. I first cleaned the radiator, new antifreeze, belts are tight, no leaks water pump turning, still same problem.

    I have a Fuel and Temp guage working intermittently and was told to replace the fuel relay and the temp relay. This is a 2008 John Deere 4008. I am also going to replace the start relay while I'm at it. Which one is the right one and how to check them??? Would love to know if someone can help. Thanks. Bill

    • @timberlinetactical
      @timberlinetactical  2 роки тому

      The fuel sending units on those are notorious for going bad. JD doesn’t know how to put money into quality sensors yet. I’d first change the sending unit and see if that resolves it. They’re very simple to replace and inexpensive. If that’s not the case I imagine it’s the gauge pod itself. Possible to be an issue with the relay but honestly that would surprise me. My personal opinion it’s more likely the sending unit or the pod. I don’t know off hand what relay it is for your tractor but if you go to the dealer they can tell you and get you the new one. There is a way to check relays with a multimeter but I would just swap them and keep the old ones if I still thought they might be good. Relays are cheap.

    I tried one of these and couldn't make it fit so it would seal. Be sure and read the reviews on this poor fitting generic part. Longer screws are NOT going to make the seal fit and seal like it was factory. I ended up sending it back and installing a 3 gauge pod on my cowl with a fuel, oil pressure, and temperature gauge. My original tach and hour meter continue to work fine.
