The most enjoyable aspect of your videos for me- is that you're not a salesman, hoking merch, no music or cg, just honest doings. You don't brag, boast, or backbite others.
Sometimes, I just need a short little video to watch during a short little break from my chores. This certainly fills the bill!! Always entertaining, and always brings me a few giggles. Keep up the GREAT work, Mike!!!
As a mechanic wanna be - I would try that and break everything. You make it look so easy. One of these days I'm just going to get a piece of junk and start working on it, just to figure out how to fix things the way you do. You da man!
Capt, absolutely right regarding 'fixing' one issue generally moves the problem somewhere else. you could dump ton of money into 'upgrades' on the 755, there will still be weak points. the ole 755 has served you well, the triple nickel can take some of the burden off the 755
Yeah captain I think the new channels great keep it up I still like your other channel and I'll keep watching that I'm glad you did it this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida God bless have a great week stay safe and especially at work cuz I know we we you work
I've had my 2003 JD 790 for about 6 years now. At the 4 year mark, the right front small 4wd gear wiped out. Replaced both the small and large gears and new bearings and seals. Now, the left front gear set seems to be having the same problem. Tomorrow I will dive into it and see if I can remember how I did it last time. Thanks for posting the video. It really helps out to see how someone else does it.
Nothing wrong with shade tree mechanics as long as no one gets hurt or costs more than the correct tool would. Enjoying this channel too! Thanks Mike. Take care & stay safe.
I found this to be more like how I used to do my vehicle repairs, or as I used to call these jobs, botch and scamper, so glad I was not the only one, by the way here is a great tip for anyone on a limited budget and has an old car, I used to take my car when it had a problem and ask the mechanic, hey I think I have a problem can you check it out and give me a price, they would find the problem and the price was always ridiculous, so I would tell them nay I have to think about that and save up, I then drove to the scrapyard and bought an old cheap replacement part and fit it myself, saved me a fortune over the years, and always remember if you dont think it has solved the problem or you don't think it will last, sell sell sell.
Watching you work really helps me understand why some guys have a vice mounted on their bumpers. I enjoy your primitive approach. But, at the end of the day, you get it done.
You know a tool every shade tree mechanic/homesteader needs when working on his/her junk and that is a or multiple soup can lead hammers. Collect yourself some scrap lead (wheel weights/old plumbers lead/old fishing weights etc) a cheap cast iron skillet or Dutch oven or equivalent, soup cans of various sizes, hammer handles of your choice, a drill and drill bit or two to make the handle hole, a ladle, gloves and a nice hot fire. I probably have yapped enough and you can probably figure out the rest. I have soup can hammers weighing in at about 3, 5, and 10 pounds. Good luck and I enjoy your channel.
Broken tooth, and not a dentist in sight 😂🤦♂️ Didn't expect the cog to be that deep in the axle to break, but it did give you the opportunity to replace some extra parts !!
I watch him on the Ella channel and didn’t know this was here. I don’t think most people do obvious not very many subscribers. Thank you sir by the way
Hi, good luck with the new channel, you are going to be a busy boy keeping this running too. I enjoyed this vid, I do like to see a bit of “fettlin’” as they say round here. I am just off to go play with an old forklift that maybe in need of a new starter, you are dead right about running old machines, they do need their TLC🙄. 👋🇬🇧😀
Cap’n… if sawdust is man glitter for woodworking… metal shavings are manglitter for mechanic-ing! You know… I made a comment last week, on the other channel, about how the triple nickel could learn a lot about dependability from the 755… I hope the 555 isn’t turning the 755 into a delinquent! Cap’n… I’m enjoying these filler vids. Keep ‘em coming!
I bought an 855 adout 19 years ago and had to replace two gears in it. Thank God for manuals, because someone had been into it before and had it together wrong! When I went to put it together like I took it apart I had an eighth of an inch of gap between the pieces. I think that they just pulled it together with the bolts and got rid of the tractor. Anyway, it had pushed the spacer washer into the bearing and the pieces destroyed the bearings.
Hey Captain, Long time no see. We first met on UA-cam at Dirt Perfects garage then watching you build the Concrete Yacht. Have you finished it? I'm looking for the radiator pre-screen for my Kubota. I lost the original a couple year ago. Kubota wants $80.98 for a new one. A new rad is only $129. Kubota certainly didn't oversize the cooling systems. My tractor is a 2011/12 with 1300 hrs. I've modified it so much I can't trade it. I'd have to start over. I also had to replace a seal in the front wheel pivot. First one didn't work (operator error@@@!!!!!!). I tried Barrs leak and it works just fine.
I need to pay more attention had no idea you had this channel so I did the sub the bell and 5 thumbs up. funny I mentioned about wanting to see the repair on your reg channel. great fix is better than no fix. enjoyed the vid and ones to come. cheers captain.
Well, I'm one up on you today, I repaired both a chainsaw and a riding lawn mower this morning. (It is possible that like me, when your kids get old enough to borrow tools and equipment, you'll have more opportunity for repairs.) Just saying. Thanks for the entertainment during my lunch hour (late as lunch was), take care!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and videos. Just subscribed to your new channel if you ever decide you have reached the end of the internet and need some new content you might find the turn right machine shop interesting. The guy has more knowledge about machining things than most people out there. His videos are usually pretty long but Thant’s due to the highly detailed content. I have to admit I haven’t watched much lately but his older videos were amazing in content and his ability to remake needed parts that either aren’t available or just stupidly priced. His technique for straightening bent shafts approaches magic levels, yet he explains it step by step. I think his primary calling is making and fixing props for boats being he’s located on long island. I think from rumblings he may be retired from the aircraft industry. Wishing you and your family the best.
Correction, just reread his bio, in which he states he was a navy contractor and he has apparently moved to cape cod. Must have gotten tired of people guessing his background.
Common on these. Also the right side steering spindle is made too weak and it snaps off..........the dealer told me that....and they directly said that john deere's fix was to just stop making the replacement part.😡
Mike, what's the part number for the part that's damaged still? No guarantees but I can sometimes find used but good parts if that might help you out. No promises of course. I only have the JD 455 AWS tractor but it serves me well and No, I am not easy on anything I own. I also repair all my own machines from trucks, shid steers, dump and Tow trucks. Let a friend borrow my old 10,000 pound trailer and he bent, busted the Frame!!!! Never understood how dense some people are. Anyhow, shoot me a part number and I'll see if I can get lucky for You!
I always mark the two pieces that are mounted together so I don't get the orientation wrong. A chisel to mark both pieces is the best, or a paint marker (but that can be removed when cleaning). And yes, the manual typically will tell you the orientation and refer to a manufacturer's marking. 🤣🤣
Something that would really help your front axle is some rear ballast. Your land plane just doesn't look heavy enough. As a bonus, more weight would help you get more traction
I think just adding more weight is going to put more stress on the drive line and working load and nobody wants to lose working load. Maybe she needs a big turbo TD02 You can find that on UA-cam. Fire breathing tire spinning ground shaking green beast one sexy b****
That’s just it, these are light duty Front Wheel Assist tractors. We’ve run four of these units over the years. Your custom cut tires have turned your front axle into a fuseable link... We never had bevel gear issues until we went with more aggressive tires. More rear ballast and carve up the rear tires instead of the fronts. Or just keep doing what you’re doing and you’ll have plenty of video content! We’ve had an 855 and three 955’s. Take care of your machine, because the newer versions aren’t nearly as durable. Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
Thank you for the video. I might have a similar issue but wanted to see if you can confirm what I am experiencing is similar to what you were on my 30HP kubota B7800. My 4WD will momentarily engage and pop in and out of 4WD after it starts to rotate. The wheels never lock up like you mentioned yours did. I assumed it was further up the line, internal to the transmission, but your video gave me hope that it may just be a gear/bearing near the wheel.. Any insight you can provide confirming this symptom would help. The dealership in my town said they would have to split the tractor in half to diagnose and that would be a lot of labor that doesn't include the repair costs.
Uncle. Was full of cancer before he past. He believed it was do to his job , he always was cleaning locomotive brake parts in a large washer with no PPE's. Please wear your PPE's
I am a real mechanic and 120 bucks for that gear is nothing compared to time. Time is money, cus you dude are going to have to spend the same time pretty soon to redo your shoddy work!
Hahaha, I could do this three times over and still be cheaper than a dealer. Not the me thing the time saved by not having to wait on their shady service. Get real
The most enjoyable aspect of your videos for me-
is that you're not a salesman, hoking merch, no music or cg,
just honest doings. You don't brag, boast, or backbite others.
Appreciate the feedback
I'm amazed that it has lasted this long.
i didn't realize you had 2 channels, great video thanks for sharing 👏👏👏👍👍👍
Just started!
I think everyone should try doing repairs at least once. Nice job. Stay safe
Absolutely
Sometimes, I just need a short little video to watch during a short little break from my chores. This certainly fills the bill!! Always entertaining, and always brings me a few giggles. Keep up the GREAT work, Mike!!!

Go for it! You might get a few negative experiences before your efforts are “film worthy” but when you get there…..man, what a feeling.
runs like a deere
A lot of useful information for a bunch of small tractor owners....thanks!
You bet!
Thanks for taking the time...have an 855 to fix and its just awesome to get a preview of what I am about to getting into it beforehand.
Good work there.
Nice!! A new channel. Glad to subscribe. 👍🙂🤟💯
Good stuff Captain 👍🏼
💪
A whole new channel!
You're spoiling us Mike 😊
I like the repair videos! Keep up the great work

Definitely should help
Shade tree mechanican at its finest. If it works you certainly can’t argue with success sir, thanks for the tag along vid, love the video.
Yeah captain I think the new channels great keep it up I still like your other channel and I'll keep watching that I'm glad you did it this is Bob from Vero Beach Florida God bless have a great week stay safe and especially at work cuz I know we we you work

Great Job .. But I would call this a temporary fix until I get the right parts . Great video
Everything is a temporary fix. No such thing as permanent
Another good job done Mike
Hello from the Netherlands Kleeman .
thanks for the video Mike .
Sincerely Hollandduck
Good job, love it
Thank you
Hey Bud, that red jack is the key component of most low end shop presses.
Exactly
So that gear broke !!!!! Left me hanging in the last vid 😮😮😮😮 Ok I feel better now!! Was an easy fix at least. Like the shorts CPT. 👍👍👍👍
Well done not too technical easy to understand added to my favorites list.Keep on Keppong on.
Thanks!
Looks like you have a press to me captain good job
Just did this to my 790 last fall. Good job Captain but you made it look a little to easy.
Thanks Neal
Watching you work really helps me understand why some guys have a vice mounted on their bumpers. I enjoy your primitive approach. But, at the end of the day, you get it done.
I had no idea you had a second channel. It just got randomly recommended to me
It's a new thing!
Another awesome video, Captain.
Thanks roy

Great job great repair great video thanks Mike
Thank you
I watch him on the Ella channel and didn’t know this was here.
I don’t think most people do obvious not very many subscribers.
Thank you sir by the way
Appreciate ya watching Paul
Great job on the shade mechanics!
So far, this channel is a winner, winner, chicken dinner!

I think the 755 is glad the 555 is around now
Great video, use what you got
Love the comment about the pressure washer, then you take more and more parts off. Pressure washing would be good, need to get water line too shop.
I bought an 855 adout 19 years ago and had to replace two gears in it. Thank God for manuals, because someone had been into it before and had it together wrong! Thank you!
I've always been an excellent Reeder.
If you take all the bearings and seals to a bearing service you will find that these parts are cheaper
Bearings and seals were pretty cheap, it's the gear that is pricey
Nice!!!!
It's amazing 👏👏
💪

I AM ENJOYING THIS NEW CHANNEL!
Bought my 770 with the same problem. Although my issue was with a tooth on the ring gear so I didn't have to go as far as you did.

AW you tore up @DIRT PERFECT John Deere. LOL 😂😂😂
Nope, this one is mine
Another great video sir, who needs a press when you have a 555, right?
Right!
Could you possibly link a parts list?
That was interesting.
💪
Hydro stat tractors like being ran at higher rpm’s keeps the oil cooler
I’m having similar issues with my 855, any chance you’ve got the part # or link to the Weingartz page? Great vid btw.
At the 11 minute mark on your video you talked about cleaning out that bottom bearing. How did you get it out?
Love your videos bud. Lol
Thank you
Kleeman, please advise where I can acquire a manual for the 755. Mine is a 1996..thx in advance.
You may have all you need to make a press that would suit your needs.
I thought you were supposed to come to a stop when engaging and disengaging fwd. have I been doing it wrong?
It can depend on the setup and the machine. The way this setup works I can slip in and out as long as I don't have pressure on it
@@Kleeman1 ah ok
It lives for yet another day - maybe a week, month, year? Then? Another video 😀
It's hard to tell lol
If it's orientation specific then dirty side up was how it came off.
What is this 😮....... A second channel ???
Brand new!
How many cuts did you find with the carb cleaner 😂
All of them 🤣
👍🏻👍🏻
All that metal in there was from that one tooth?
And the carnage it causes.
So the saying goes If you like to get your hands dirty run it wide open... Put it should say If you got the money to repair it run it wide open 😁
💪
It’s that John Deere junk. Joke lol
Btw, the center of that bottle jack crews out to make stroke longer.
If it's not seized 🤣
There's always a weakest link that you'll need to contend with. ;-)
Yup!
BTW, you Really should drain all the gear oils out of tgat front differential or further damage will happen.. IMHO.
I have fixed 100 of these
👍👍👍🐝🌞
