Thanks for the demo. I was reading a pattern description that required 3rd loop stitches and was surprised I'd never heard that terminology but after watching your videos, it's basically what I call "working in the back bump". I guess I should start referencing it correctly. LOL! This stitch really does create a lovely border. Thank you for the demo. 😃
Awesome demo. Perfect yarn colour and stitch definition for a demo, and all the colours contrasted perfectly to make it easy for a relative newbie like me. Ignore the trolls. Thank you so much. Now that I’ve stopped panicking, I can get back to this Christmas gift I’m crocheting 😁
thank you so much.your explanation is bright and clear.i was struggling a lot with that stich and you are the one and only to make me doing correct that stich. thank you again, good bless you
Omg, you’re the best. I’m currently working on a hobo bag that has this stitch Hdc b3lo and I’ve been researching on how to do it and glad I found it with your channel. ❤❤❤
Wow thank you so much that 3rd loop had me scratching my head and you made it look so easy. I can't wait to try it for my bear beanie for a new born baby.
Hi! I have a pattern that asks for a dc working in the third loop… I’m a bit confused since I can’t pull through 2 after I yarn over like when going through a normal stitch.
I lost my original reply so here goes again.... When you work in the round as shown here, you are ALWAYS working from the right side (or front side) which positions the 3rd loop to the back. I have seen this stitch done on motifs and granny squares but those particular items were always worked from the front or right side. The work was never turned. IF you just want to BORDER your blanket with this stitch, that's easy.... when you finish your blanket, crochet a border all the way around with double crochet stitches and then, WITHOUT TURNING your work, crochet 3rd loop stitches all the way around the double crochet stitches. Keep in mind you need to make extra stitches in the corners to maintain a corner shape. IF you wanted this Stitch done in certain rows, you would need to start a brand new row on the front right hand side after you finished on the left so that you can work into your third loops in the previous row because those 3rd loops would be on the back side. I know it's been awhile since you posted but hopefully this makes sense and will help you or somebody. Sorry my explanation was lengthy but thanks for asking. It gave me something to ponder. 🤔😃
When you sc into the bl and 3rd loop together yours are easy to slip your hook into that 3rd loop. Mine are always so tight that it's a battle to get my hook into that 3rd loop even though I crochet the previous round very loosley! How can I fix this? Please help!
If you're crocheting into the back/third loop of a half double crochet, the third loop is created with your first yarnover on the hook. Check that you're not making that yarn over too tight.
Hello Sarah. I've taken up crochet in the past couple of months, still feeling very much a rookie. I'm trying to make some beanies for my kids for Christmas and this stitch has come up a lot. Your tutorial is the clearest one I've seen. In the yarn I'm using, I've found it hard to locate that third loop. The yarn you use here looks beautiful - could you tell me what it is? Thank you!
Hey- I'm not sure if it's the exact same kind, but it looks a lot like the Bernat Maker Home Dec yarn in Aqua. That should get you at least a very similar yarn, if not the same one.
Thank you for the feedback. If you wish to skip any of the introductory remarks, you are welcome to skip ahead in the video by using the little slider at the bottom of the screen, or by double tapping in the frame and it will forward at 10 second increments
Maybe 6 years old, but a valuable reaource and much needed for a current project. Thanks for taking the time for a detailed description.
Thank you so much!

You explained it perfectly. Thank you 😊
Thank you! Watched 3 other videos before yours and couldn’t understand. You helped a lot!

This was perfectly described and perfectly demonstrated; thank you!
You anticipated my head scratching as I worked your market bag pattern. This was most helpful. Thanks.
Thank you so much for doing this step-by-step. It really helped me out in my project

Thanks a million, I managed to follow you, very clearly explained x
Thank you so much you are very good to explain.
Great tutorial! You explained it very well! Thank you!
You’re very welcome :) glad it helped!
If the pattern is 3rd loop front, we do the same but front? The horizontal bar like in the back?
Thank you! I inherited a project and was so lost with the pictures!
What’s confusing is some patterns want TLO worked in the front and some in the back but none I’ve seen make a distinction.
Thanks excellent instructions
Great video! Thank you. What yarn are you using in this tutorial?
Thank you I had no idea and the dress pattern I'm working on calls for this stitch and then a inc across the row
Good video!
Hi! I have a pattern that asks for a dc working in the third loop… I’m a bit confused since I can’t pull through 2 after I yarn over like when going through a normal stitch.
So would the second loop just be the back loop of a stitch?
Awesome, thank you❤
Thank you so much!🌻🌻
So when you get to the end of the round & are ready to join, do you Slipstitch into the back & third loop or into the regular front & back loop? Thx!
Thank you 😊
Thank you!!!
Thank you ! Had no idea !
You’re very welcome!
Could someone explain, why this is done in the round only? If I wanted to use this exact stitch for a blanket, how can I achieve the same look?

I know you asked this question a year ago, but my reply may help someone else. :)

Just do the stich!
Just eat the dam orange!
So fucking rude
You are too old to be this impatient
No need for such a rude comment and bad manners.
No actually, the explanation of the third loop was really necessary.
I am so doomed. I'm working my first project using the horizontal bar and it's not easy......yet.
Thật là mất kiên nhẫn có vậy mà nói hết video thật vô duyên quá .
Omg stop talking so much and show the stitch
