  • These guys knew what they were doing when they named themselves Big Country. Everything about them is BIG! From Stuart Adamson's voice to the powerhouse that is Mark Brzezicki on the drums. Even though I've only reacted to 3 songs from them, they are one of my favourite bands I've found through you guys.
    Thanks for watching!

The two other big singles, "Harvest home" and "Wonderland", are well worth reacting to.

Big Country are such a cult and deserve so much more recognition that they ever got.

Tremendous band, still to this day kicks ass live. Inwards is my personal fave. Cheers Bubba. No bagpipes or keyboards

Thank you for returning to Big Country. It's very much appreciated. Fabulous song, fantastic band. I always listen to this before watching my football team on TV. 💙

Yeah... their debut was fantastic. "Porrohman" is another great song from that one. This leads to then inevitable YOU'VE GOT TO PLAY MORE SKIDS comment. Guitarist / Singer Stuart Adamson's work with that band was fantastic. You've done a couple of songs, but there's so much more: "THE SAINTS ARE COMING" "A WOMAN IN WINTER," "HURRY ON BOYS," and "CIRCUS GAMES" are all brilliant!!

Yes, I saw them live at Hammersmith Palais in 1983 I think, wearing obligatory checked shirt!

The whole album this (and the other songs you've listened to on the channel already) comes from is a thing of the most wonderous beauty. I was lucky enough to see them - my second gig after Echo & the Bunnymen- while they were promoting "The Crossing" and it has been in my top 5 albums since then. Almost 40 years ago! (The other albums are good but none are as good as "The Crossing". If I were you I'd listen to all of that album before moving on.)
Incidentally I've long wondered if the 400 miles refers to the distance between the band's home town of Dunfermline and London. I'm pretty sure the distance between London and my own home town is a little over 400 miles and Dunfermline is less than 15 miles from me. I could google it to check but I don't want to risk disproving my long held 'theory'...

Great choice and reaction. Not that familiar with this band outside of two songs but they definitely have a unique sound.

Try The Soft Boys Underwater Moonlight..Album and song. The criminally overlooked Robyn Hitchcock's band.
From 1980 and I've only just discovered it. Well worth a look!!

I don't think that Adamson appreciated the 'bagpipe' description - rather he wanted to create a 'folk' sound!

Big Country was such a great band. His last band The Raphaels is worth checking out. They made one CD and year before Stuart's passing and it has some great songs on it. Alot different than the Big Country sound. A very melancholy album but a great one.

I do love Big Country's early output, and this video was pretty cool. I do suggest The One I Love from the lp the Buffalo Skinners, and if you're feeling adventurous, do Fragile Thing from their last record Driving to Damascus. It's a bit C&W but beautiful song.

Close your eyes and randomly pick a track from The Crossing and you will not be disappointed. Harvest Home will let you get a good taste of the bass. One of my favorite songs is Where The Rose Is Sown.

So many good songs. You are sleeping on the bass player Tony Butler. He's great but like you I didn't notice at first. If you haven't seen any live stuff you haven't seen them at their best. Only seen them twice live but can't help moving and jumping.

I've watched a couple of their live stuff. Just a jumping band! And yes, I feel like I shortchanged Tony here. He really is great!
