I was in that crowd, the ballrooms floor is sprung due to it's original purpose of being a dance hall so when you have 2000 people jumping around it's crazy and you're sure the floor is coming down. One of the greatest underrated bands of all time.

Makes me sad to think I'll never see BC with Stuart. I've seen them a couple of times with Bruce singing and they are excellent but watching them live with Stuart looks amazing.

Saw BC live more than a dozen times between 1987 and 2000. Unbelievable energy EVERY time! Highlight was possibly Stuart Adamson on stage, solo with an acoustic guitar (and he was some guitar player!) singing Come Back to Me, just him, his guitar and one spotlight. Silence from the crowd! Absolutely spellbinding. RIP Stuart, you are missed

Big Country touched your soul through their Celtic based stories, where the pride of the people and sometimes shame, oooozed out of Stuarts Lyrics,
The smalles part of my DNA is Celtic, but this group always made me love and relate to that portion of myself, the most.
Til this day, I can not listen to this group, without shedding tears for one of the greatest musicians we ever lost.

Big Country were an AMAZING live band. Fields of Fire was a beloved live number, but there were so many others where the boys would just deliver incredibly, especially frontman Stuart Adamson. Porrohman ALWAYS impresses, and there are are few different high quality live performance videos on here to find for that one. There's also other high energy bangers like Tall Ships Go, Angle Park and Wonderland, as well as proper epic numbers like The Seer and Eiledon, which are as much about emotional power as sonic intensity. These guys were just awesome in general.

Stuart Adamson wrote this song after meeting some soldiers coming back from the Falkland Islands war on a train. 400 miles is the distance from Edinburgh, Scotland to London, England. This song was on their debut album The Crossing that came out in 1983. Surely you must have heard of In a Big Country. That song was written after this song.

As a Scot I see the 400 miles as the distance from London to Scotland. No words were spoken, no smiles until the Scottish Border was reached. To me this is a protest song, protesting London rule over a foreign country which is 382 miles away. When we have independence this should be Scotland's new National Anthem.

Love your videos guys, enjoy watching you find the music I cherish. And today, wow, my all time favourite band FROM MY HOME TOWN!!!!! Stuart Adamson lead guitar & vocals, Bruce Watson guitar, Tony Butler bass, and Mark Brzezicki on drums. Stuart was my hero, my idol and my friend. As far as I'm concerned the greatest songwriter I've ever known and a truly unique guitarist. This particular gig was at Glasgiw Barrowlands on Hogmany (New year if ye're no Scottish) 1983/4, so Sori was right with both years lol. The song is from their debut album, The Crossing, released earlier in 83. Stuart Adamson was guitarist for The Skids prior to BC, and if you've ever watched a NO Saints game, you've heard The Skids. They wrote The Saints Are Coming, their run out song. Anyway, thanks so much for covering this and greetings fae Bonnie Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🤘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I'm hugely defensive about Big Country/Stuart Adamson and this song.. I think that after 21, this song loses most of it's thump. I was one of our group who knew every song from The Crossing and made sure others suffered our shout/singing.. I obviously pulled back in my 20/30s but I always would shove In a Big Country onto youtube, or Chance, just to feel nostalgic. Hearing about Stuart Adamson apparently killing himself was a strange moment in time for most of us.. I hate that he has gone because he was such a kind man and a talent,,

Super bouncy .Showing my age here but I went to see Simple Minds there the night they re-opened The Ballroom for gigs (it was supposed to be at the Locarno but they had to move it ,cant remember why)

The floors actually have springs under them. I think it was originally a dance hall? I would give anything to be able to go back to the 80s and see Big Country at the Barras!!

I feel sorry for Vin that even though he's a fan of Iron Maiden and he still haven't listened to The Nomad. I believe it to be the one of the best songs in history considering the musicality of it.

Big Country have waaaay more albums than most people here in North America know about. You giys should give In A Big Country a try. Their first big hit in North America. You may even recognise it.
