Pegmatites can occur in metamorphic rocks as igneous intrusions. The existence of pegmatites heavily implies re-melting through intense heat caused by the metamorphic process, making the rock an igneous as it as completely re-melted; but the rock remaining was only partially melted, so you have igneous inside of metamorphic.
Dan you are a prospector, not just a gold hunter. Don't worry about those that don't like the other videos, they can always choose not to watch them and stick to the gold ones.
My boyfriend is a geologist and I asked him about the pegmatite. He said pegmatite is an extreme intrusive igneous rock, but it is found in greenschist facies metamorphic rock all over the place. I don't know what all that means, but apparently it's definitely found in metamorphic! So, you're right :)
In plain-ish English, basically pegmatite comes up through the existing rock as magma intrusions and cools crystallizing into the sapphire gems. The heat from the magma intrusions aids in transforming the rock layers into a metamorphic rock seam.
If you heat metamorphic rock up enough, it eventually begins to melt. This area was at the perfect point to melt some of the rock, but not all, and then cooled to leave igneous rock (pegmatite) in the areas that melted and metamorphic rock in the areas that stayed solid. Source: former igneous and economic geologist.
@@MulletDestructur You are describing contact metamorphism. It is not metamorphic from regional alteration. It is metamorphic directly from the intrusion.

I will probably never see one as big or beautifully as hers but I will always be fascinated by these beautiful gems . Thanks again for taking us on the hunt with you

Ya , me too. Nothing against gold and all but minerals and crystals is where my intrest is. Unfortunately for Mr Hurd I do not buy the rocks And minerals I collect, . That ocean picture stone is tempting though.
Yep, gold is just gold, a technically useful (electronics!) mildly pleasant looking metal (i much prefer silver for jewelry). Gems are near infinite permutations of simple building blocks reshaped by unique natural conditions. Much more interesting.
@CJ yep, certainly silver sapphires! Have a bunch, no pyrite for SURE. Black, brown, silver, yellow, pink, blue, greens...orange, even, too. Loads of fun to play with!

I have a geology degree and back in Minnesota as an undergraduate, we studied "hard rock" geology, aka petrology. I think the confusion could arise that pegmatites arise from close association with igneous intrusive bodies, but they are actually commonly at the top of the mass and are from "dewatering" or when the igneous mass loses its water and a lot of cool minerals come with it and out of solution, like mainly silica, but could be micas and even feldspars, and of course, for economic interest, gold and other valuable mineral and gems, in with the crazy coarse mineral grains formation which are due not to slow cooling, but super slow precipitation and cooling. This Metamorphic rock was probably very close to a huge igneous intrusion, what that metamorphosed it, and the pegmatite pushed up into it. There is a complete gradation between igneous intrusions and very coarse metamorphic rocks, and sometimes it's only the remnant bedding in an otherwise igneous rock that clues you into that it is metamorphic.

You are making great memories with your family and those boys will have all your videos to show their children when they are older. That's something alot of kids can't say nor do, but you making these great videos and teaching millions of other people and their children what can be found in the ground if they would slow down an just look. In today's world everything moves way to fast, but you my friend are showing and teaching everyone to slow down an just look at where they are at an they might find a rock, gem or chunk of gold they will will always treasure an keep an pass down with a story of how they found it to their children. I Love your videos buddy and one day your boys will say, we had an adventure since we were born because my Mom and Dad made our lives an mainly our childhood so much fun we didn't realize at the time but he was teaching us all about rocks and we say thank you for that dad.
I have to say I prefer what you are doing now Dan. I love the gem stuff too, it reminds me of rock hunting in some of those same areas as a kid with my parents. I truly enjoy your content, keep it coming!
Two ways: 1. A batholith forms. Cracks form later on. Magma pushes its way up through the cracks. Cools. Hardens as seam of pragmatite. 2. In the late stages of crystallization, water separates from the cooling magma body typically in pockets and changes the surrounding temperature thus forming the pragmatite. Love the show. Sub earned.
Love Lapidary goods!! thanks for the fun If you did just feather wedges on top holes and leave bottom holes empty it'd pop out easier, 4-6 wedged on top 6-8 empty on bottom Hope you wear a respirator when drilling them holes!
Dan! Because of you I fell back into my interest in gold and I started binging your videos maybe a year ago (So glad to see your growth!) You remind me of my grandfather and you've helped my mental help a lot just by being you and I just want to thank you ❤️ Next thing I really want to do is pan for gold
2:05 pegmatites are igneous rocks but they get injected from the crystallising pluton into the surrounding country rocks along faults, fractures and in this case along the foliation of the host metamorphic rocks (gneisses).
Love this.. . family videos and my favorite are the gem finds, also love the gold video's 💛 ❤️ 💕 but my passion is gems. Dan u guys are so relaxing and exciting. Panning for gold is fun..those little specks are so shiney. I also luv pretty rocks. When I was a kid I would crack open rocks just to see what was in them.
metamorphic rock is any type of rock that has been changed (or morphed), usually by exposure to high heat and pressure. this means metamorphic rock can potentially have started out as igneous rock. im guessing thats why you can find pegmatite there.
I watch your content for you. Your adventures, your commentary, your knowledge. We went on a family vacation to northern Michigan & in one of the inlets to Lake Michigan I was able to notice, because of your content, what looked like garnets in the sand. I love all your adventures. My dad made beautiful jewelry from gem stones. I used to find some along the Fraser and creeks in the Caribou. I enjoy this so much.
I like these gemstone videos. Teaching me knowledge on what a lot of these precious rocks are that I have no idea how to differentiate etc
Thanks Dan!
I have to say I prefer what you are doing now Dan. I love the gem stuff too, it reminds me of rock hunting in some of those same areas as a kid with my parents. I truly enjoy your content, keep it coming!
Beautiful stones Dan, you all did well in finding and getting them out. God bless, all of you please take care and thank you for sharing 🙏👍❤️
I really like the mixing of gemstones episodes into the videos. Learning a lot too.
I'm Having a blast watching you having a blast. Gold, gems, indent care all you videos are fun and educational.
Aw you look seem to have a nice family. A very wholesome venture you have going on.
Thanks Dan! Always excellent adventures. I originally found you while looking for gold prospecting but I really enjoy the gem videos as well !
Two ways:
Sub earned.
That is really awesome to be able to bring your family and teach your kids on the field.
Love Lapidary goods!! thanks for the fun
If you did just feather wedges on top holes and leave bottom holes empty it'd pop out easier, 4-6 wedged on top 6-8 empty on bottom
Hope you wear a respirator when drilling them holes!
I absolutely love your adventures and love the gemstone hunts!! Thank you for sharing your hunts and your family 😍
Dan! Because of you I fell back into my interest in gold and I started binging your videos maybe a year ago (So glad to see your growth!) And I started buying/saving in gold in silver, I have 2oz of gold and 32oz of silver. You remind me of my grandfather and you've helped my mental help a lot just by being you and I just want to thank you ❤️ Next thing I really want to do is pan for gold
That black star sapphire in the thumbnail, absolutely favorite mineral
2:05 pegmatites are igneous rocks but they get injected from the crystallising pluton into the surrounding country rocks along faults, fractures and in this case along the foliation of the host metamorphic rocks (gneisses).
Love this.. . family videos and my favorite are the gem finds, also love the gold video's 💛 ❤️ 💕 but my passion is gems. Dan u guys are so relaxing and exciting. I'm just as excited to see what u find! just like I'm the one holding the camera 📷!!! Thank you from the bottom of my ❤️ 💙 💜. Also making these memories with the whole family how special. U truly are a rich man! Keep it coming. God bless and love from my family to yours!
Here to watch you do you, Dan! Cool learnings to spunge up along the way. Love it, intriguing!
Your obviously excited about and love what you do. Gold or gems, I enjoy watching your adventures. Keep positive and know that it’s highly contagious.
So nice to see you with your family ♡ They seem so, so nice.
Everyone does gold. That's why I like you Dan. You don't do what everyone else is doing. Keep doing you!
I appreciate your transparency in the economy of prospecting, makes sense!
Your channel is Awesome. I came for the gold, but keep coming back for the gems!
Don't change!!
Panning for gold is fun..those little specks are so shiney. I also luv pretty rocks. When I was a kid I would crack open rocks just to see what was in them.
Thanks for always having a smile, positive attitude and on top of that a great video!
dan your videos are amazing no matter what you're doing even the tour videos of old towns and stuff like that are amazing
metamorphic rock is any type of rock that has been changed (or morphed), usually by exposure to high heat and pressure. this means metamorphic rock can potentially have started out as igneous rock. im guessing thats why you can find pegmatite there.
I watch your content for you. Your adventures, your commentary, your knowledge. We went on a family vacation to northern Michigan & in one of the inlets to Lake Michigan I was able to notice, because of your content, what looked like garnets in the sand. A short google search later and it turns out that there are garnets north of there , so I was probably right. You are a lot of fun to watch.
I love the gemstone videos. Great seeing the whole family to enjoy some really pretty locations.
I'm along for the adventure, Dan, and I love learning about all the little details along the way. Go Dan!
To be honest i love the gemstones and rocks WAY more than the gold panning:D
