Knives Out is one of my favorite modern mystery who done it movies , I'm really glad that after Star Wars The Last Jedi Rian Johnson went back to making original movies and we got this gem of a movie which is now a franchise of it's own and we wouldn't have got this movie and Knives Out 2 if Rian Johnson hadn't got burned out by Star Wars so thank you to The Last Jedi for this 😂
Rian Johnson gets a bad rap solely due to Star Wars. While TLJ is far from my favorite, the dude is one of the most talented directors working today. Also, I still wouldn’t mind a Rian Johnson SW trilogy if he could plan out the story from the beginning 🤷🏻♂️
@@thethriftytypewriter oh yeah no doubt Rian Johnson is a genius and I completely agree with you I don't blame him for how The Last Jedi turned out Disney didn't know what the hell they wanted to do with that trilogy they were all over the place with those movies and yeah if Rian Johnson got his to make his own Star Wars movie from beginning to end it would be amazing I'm sure
Knives Out was incredible and I loved seeing Chris Evans have a total blast playing a complete a**hole of a character and Daniel Craig absolutely hamming it up as a caricature of a legendary detective! And I love the framing of the characters and setting pretty much like a game of Clue. One of my favorite 'Whodunnit' films that isn't actually advertised as one is Red Riding Hood from 2011.
I remember watching it with a friends and jokingly coming out with a most convoluted explanation for the events, within the first part of the movie (around the steps and the broken wood piece). It turned out I was almost completely right, except I thought Marta and Ransom were working as a team. Even funnier is that I am usually not that great at figuring out mysteries.
I’ve watched the first movie three times already and every time I’ve watched it I enjoyed it more and more. The second one I’ve watched only once. I remember it for being almost as good as the first movie. But honestly I forgot most of the plot twist of that movie (not because it was bad but because it was extremely complicated)
@@mateivlad4425 1) What exactly are the arguments for that guy being an idiot? Is there one that holds water? 2) What can you say about Blanc's sidekick? I can tell a lot about Marta: she is kind, honest (not just because of her condition), a good judge of character, willing to do quite a lot to protect her loved ones (even if it is dishonest or unkind), smart, a bit of a pushover (not too much). That person in GO is... a teacher, I think? 3) Speaking of, what is that person's motivation? I understand being kinda curious about the whole affair, but going to such great lenghts? 4) Is bringing down the big bad really worth destroying that thing? 5) Why do others turn on the big bad at the end? 6) How the hell did Blanc control the press? OK, that's a nitpick.
Loved this movie too, and it's absolutely become one of my go-to comfort watches. Such a fun vibe. Great breakdown of why it's so good and unexpected! Would love for you to cover more mystery movies!
Great Video. I've been a big fan of your channel for a while now especially when it comes to your TWD content. I'm doing Year 12 Media and Knives Out was a movie we have to do a video analysis on and then one of my favourite UA-camr's upload a video about it, seemingly perfect timing
This movie, when I first saw it, reminded me of murder, she wrote combined with the game/movie Clue. And both the first and second movie had Angela Lansbury guest star as Jessica Fletcher in some way, this was an awesome movie and homage.
I would argue it’s a whodunnit, all the runtime of the film, even after we find out that Harlen was killed accidentally by Marta we still know that something is fishy because Marta was missing her antidote and we know she would have had it which means someone knew she would have accidentally poisoned him and stole the antidote, so…. Who done that?
Great video Thrifty!!! I only saw this movie once and I enjoyed it but then as I started to understand some more things on a political scale and see more of how Rian Johnson is in real life I began to not like it as much but and I definitely didn’t like the second one for sure cause I’m my opinion it’s even more on the nose and has a lot of plot holes and moments where Rian Johnson rights in "get out of jail feee cards" where on the service it seems really interesting and well crafted but when you begin to think about the movie deeply and actually do and in-depth analysis it kinda falls apart. That’s just my opinion, maybe you think differently and that’s all good but again great video regardless!!!!!!! I think the recap and the analysis worked well together at the same time for this movie cause of its genre but I definitely think you should stick to the recap and then the analysis for future videos that aren’t for Knives Out. Tbh I didn't like this movie. Seen it 2 times and I was just so ehh. I remember the trailers and posters for it snd I was genuinely excited but idk it just didn't do it for me. I thought the "I vomit, I lie" thing was pretty dumb ngl. It just wasn't it for me. But respect for liking it and the finer details of the film

I really enjoyed this movie. And the second one. Can you also cover that one at some point? Also I really like the intro! I know where the music is from and all! It’s from call of duty zombies. And I think it fits perfect!
wait... did Hugh Jackman really do it in Prisoners? I am putting away watching it until I am in the mood... Did that for years and this is totally on me.. But man, what a way to find out, huh? By seeing this one second clip in a Knives Out video :D
I remember enjoying this film when I saw it. But found I was rooting for the Thrombys rather than Marta. (Probably spelt both names wrong but you know who I mean).
So, it appears that you are completely unfamiliar with the concept of "howcatchum", or "reverse whodunit". Look it up, they are way more popular than you might think. Of course, this movie isn't a howcatchum either, it takes parts from both that concept and a regular whodunit.
I am going to say that I am a Star Wars fan. A real one. That colors my opinion of this movie... I went into it looking for reasons to like it, specifically because I wanted to give it a more than fair shake. I hate it. It is just as much a mean-spirited trashing of the mystery whodunnit as TLJ. The sequel is worse. Craig's character is a bumbling idiot and the family is painted as a villainous caricature while the moron nurse, who should be stripped of her credentials, is painted as some kind of saint. I despise this movie and the self-righteous and flagrantly racist undertones that flood it's conclusion. Ryan Johnson is a hack and a cultural vandal.
honestly have to disagree. When I watched it the first time I also didn't like it too much, but upon rewatch with friends I started, again, noticing little details here and there that put the whole movie into a different context. It's really great. It subverts a lot of expectations and didn't just try to copy the first movie but did its own thing and I think it worked out pretty well all things considered.
KO is so politically awkward and self-conscious, it's painful. I'd rather have actual people as characters rather than endless stereotypes and shallow symbols imprisoned by "identities." The only good thing I can say about this mess and the sequel is that they both remind us how great Christie was.
The acting was impeccable, and the actors were clearly having SO MUCH FUN.
Great vid! This is one of my favorite movies, period. Can’t wait for the third film.

The best mystery of the movie is how they made Ana de armas look like herself but nothing like her at the same time
