So about the blood being a different color: Primus is a prince of royal blood, or as they used to say, blue blood. He literally has blue blood because he's royalty. I always loved that detail. This movie slaps.
Regarding Tristan becoming King; he's simply the living male heir to hold the stone. If any of his mother's brothers, or their sons, had gotten a hold of the stone they'd be king. I love how it was never mentioned the entire time that Tristan's mom was a Princess of Stormhold; I thought that was a great plot twist and fun in retrospect; realizing that was Tristan fighting with, then against, his own Uncle. The creators were able to cleverly (IMO) keep the siblings from seeing each other so Septimus never had the chance to work out that this kid was his sister's son.
In the novel, Tristran was the heir because his mother Una was the firstborn of the Lord of Stormhold. Nobody bothered questioning Una about a wedding.
The scene where Shakespeare's men salute Septimus's men before dueling and then Septimus's men do the same only to have Shakespeare's men attack them instantly is hilarious. Also Lamia is a great villain.
The fact that the blood is blue is great because 1) they aren't showing blood, 2) adds to the fairytale bc royals are supposed to have blue blood. I just LOVE this movie!!
***Contains spoiler for the book version*** A rare fairy tale movie that was actually good and entertaining to watch, even as an adult. Definitely one of my favorites
Totally agree!! I actually read the book first, a year or two ago, and it depressed me. Then I discovered the adaptation and absolutely loved it. I got rid of the book and prefer to revisit the story only in movie version.
I only watched this movie for Henry Cavill. I was going through his filmography looking for things I hadn't seen and this was one of the few. I enjoyed it so much, I wasn't even all that disappointed at the lack of Henry in the film. Love the story, all the actors were great in their roles and it's become one of my favorites.
Just a note: the only reward for the princes finding the star is to be king forever because they could eat the star's heart like the witches would have. To become king they have to find and restore the Stormhold Ruby. The star would just be a nice bonus.
Yes. I agree this is one of the best standalone movies. Great cast, storyline and pacing. It’s in my DVD collection of movies that I like to watch again and again, like The Princess Bride. I never get bored of it. I also really like the movie The Prince of Persia and was disappointed there wasn’t a sequel to it.
I used tobwatch it with my mom, but continued to watch it every once in a while as an adult, still hasn't lost even a tiny bit of its magic. The Lovestory is so wholesome, aswell as so many other characters such as Cpt Shakespeare and his crew trying to keep their captains reputation up eventhough they all know A true gem
❤❤❤ Thank you for mentioning the music by Ilan Eshkeri. Truly an instant classic on par with what Howard Shore created for LOTR. I think it’s also worth mentioning Matthew Vaughn’s direction here. He established the logistics of this world very clearly thru those sweeping camera shots. I’ve been a fan of his later works because of this film and I like how entertaining his movies are despite its ridiculousness (including Argylle 😅)
I absolutely adore this movie! I remember watching it with my dad and we both loved it. The world building, storytelling and characters really make it stand out as a classic fantasy tale for me.
Septimus's death is the most "tragic" because he dies to protect his sister and nephew, even though he was not a nice man anywhere in the movie. The movie doesn't hit you over the head with this as most modern movies do, so it feels more impactful. Also, google "tragedy", because it has a more specific dramatic meaning than the general meaning people think of. It's not just "unfortunate", it's "tragicc". Tragedy: "the sorrowful or terrible events encountered or caused by a heroic individual" He wasn't a heroic person before he gave his life for his family, rather than taking lives to promote himself, so his last minute sacrifice turns his death from a mere death, to a tragedy. So many of the moments in the book/movie were crafted that way to increase the impact of every scene. Every scene is foreshadowing or a call back. It just ties together so well into a package of supreme entertainment.
5 act: the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution The exposition (you got at the 1st act) rising action (the second exposition) Climax (the fight at the inn) Falling action (everything else) Resolution (final battle) Everyone has simplified the 5 act play to a 3 act play, and people running out of acts don't bother to look to the more Shakespearean 5-act longer play.
I enjoyed watching this movie when I was in middle school. Sure some might say that this movie is marketed towards a female demographic who enjoy romance, royalty and swashbuckling adventures. But there are some moments that I enjoyed like the fight scenes and the stuff with the sky pirates. Plus the romance in this movie is really good. It’s pretty much like the Princess Bride, which is also one of my favorite movies.
One of my absolute all time favourites. Absolutely magical movie. Incredible cast. Beautiful soundtrack. My favourite fantasy film thats outside of Jacksons LOTR trilogy. So glad you covered it.
You're right. This movie was absolutely incredible. The humor, the campiness, the hidden jokes, the great storyline. The absolutely great acting from the incredible cast. I'm so surprised this movie bombed. I recommend it to all my friends.
I’m actually so happy to hear Ilan Eshkeri get appreciation, I love this film & the music so much I walked down the aisle to it. Didn’t know it really had any fans but it should!
I've always loved this movie and wondered why it was never talked about more. It has so many cool ideas, a compelling enough story to keep me interested, and a great cast. I want to read the source material simply because I love to compare & contrast the 2, see what gets lost in translation so to speak.

@@klorrainekelley See, you just made a big mistake and din't even notice it. Matthew Vaughn is awesome at improving the source material when he's making and adaptation, Stardust, Kick-Ass, Kingsmen, and technically X-Men First Class
My girlfriend talked me into watching this with her, and I immediately fell in love with this movie. It is one of the most entertaining fantasy films I've seen.
I loved the movie a lot. Always thought it was odd hardly anyone knew about it. I am more shocked you don’t know the blue blood thing. It is a line used a few times in fantasy films and historical films. And books. Stardust took the quote in a literal sense.

At times Cutthroat Island is quite silly, but I still love it nevertheless. If you love it, I can also recommend the South Korean movie "The Pirates" (very original title xd) from around 2014.

I love Stardust! Watched it first over 15 years ago when someone in New Zealand recommended it to me and we ended up watching it together. Eventually, I also read the book (which is a good deal darker, by the way). Definitely an amazing story!
even though the movie and the book are pretty different from one another, I can appreciate how both versions tell the story. I will say though that I do prefer the ending in the book where yvaine and tristan go on to have more adventures on the long journey back from the wall to stormhold. We only get little tidbits about the adventure they go on while tristan's mother rules the kingdom in the meantime, but idk seems like more fun I guess. Plus it gives tristan more time to learn about the world he's supposed to rule over instead of just BOOM suddenly king, but i get why the movie ended it that way. Nice neat little bow and all that. Great video, not enough people give this movie love
I still remember this movie, I was watching this back then in my teenage and really liking it that if I heard the word "Stardust" I immediately remember this movie.
I watched this movie with my sister as teenagers, and every time it was on tv it was a must watched. It was funny, cute and out of the ordinary, we never got tired of it.
I was a full on angst teen when this movie came out and went to watch it with my also angst teen friends on the movies without knowing what it was about, it just looked so silly that we started making fun of it. About ten minutes in we finally shut up and were fully concentrated about what was happening. This was the only movie that did that for me, it really was great.
To me it made sense Lamia let them go at the end because Yvaine hadn't yet reconciled with Tristan, Yes she saw he came to rescue her, but as far as she knew, He had already made up with Victoria, and Lamia notices that Yvaine shines a little brighter when Tristan arrives. And Lamia knew she'd shine much brighter if they reconciled because she saw they were in love. Admittedly she did wait too long for suspense purposes, should've done it right after they talked lol. But, she does mention it in the Inn scene, that she would have rather have Yvaine happy but it's better than no heart at all, she just got greedy in the end.
Love this movie, and the book also, even though they are quite different in many respects. I appreciate the changes in the movie that left out the gruesome elements from the book. I also love both endings; the movie ending was perfect for the movie, but the book ending was perfect for the book, too. I re-watch and re-read, and thoroughly enjoy each. As noted in other comments, I also don't see Lamia's behavior at the end of the movie as changing her mind, but instead, of being very calculated. Early on, although it appears somewhat humorously in the movie, she cheated her sisters in order to be given the remaining bit of heart and pursue the star herself. Then she later commented how Yvaine's frightened heart was better than no heart at all, but Lamia truly wanted as much as she could get. By giving Yvaine the opportunity to reunite with Tristan, and feel happy and feel loved, even briefly, Lamia was maximizing her own benefit from the improved condition of Yvaine's heart. How fitting, then, that it was the power of Yvaine's heart that was Lamia's downfall.
I've loved this movie for years. I've bought it 3 times in different mediums. I just watched it a few days ago and now I think I'll have to go watch it again. It really IS a great movie! It just WORKS!
Totally different films but Stardust and Devil Wears Prada are two of my most rewatched films. And funnily, they're two of the only films that are far superior to their book counterpart.
I remember seeing the trailer for it from another movie on the VCR, it looked so cool and it was only until a couple years ago that I finally found the name for it again. It was even better than the trailer made it seemed, I would say Stardust and Princess Bride are both my favorites.
My parents absolutely LOVE Stardust. My mother read the books and watched the film. I've done neither. I should probably check it out before i finish the video.
Stardust is one of my ALL time favourite films. It's just such a fun film to watch and I have rewatched it more times than I can count. It's also basically a perfect adaptation. 14:18 No the blood thing actually makes sense! The royals have "blue blood", lol, get it?!😅🤣
A real gem of a movie. On a par with "The Princess Bride"? I think it's close, but TPB wins out because of the quotable lines. But I love Stardust and watch it whenever it's on.
I love this movie. It’s nice to see it get some love. My husband prefers Princess Bride but I like this one better. Funny story, I found this movie and originally watched it to see Henry Cavill and he’s hardly in it. I stayed because if the great story and the humor.
Yeah I never understood why Lamia chose to free Yvaine rather than kill Tristan right there, only to try to kill them both later on anyways. Would have made more sense for Tristan or Una to knock her to the ground and have Tristan free Yvaine instead. I also wish the movie had showed what happened to the Unicorn.
Lamia literally explains why she did it, she needed to give Yvaine false hope so he heart would be glowing and useful to her again, so she let them think they were free. Then she pulled the rug out from under them.
So about the blood being a different color: Primus is a prince of royal blood, or as they used to say, blue blood. He literally has blue blood because he's royalty. I always loved that detail. This movie slaps.

I saw Stardust 7 times in the cinema. I have watched it at least three times a year since then!
Part of the genius of this movie, was casting excellent British comic and character actors in cameo roles, and much of the humour is very British!
You keep holding very similar views to me and I really appreciate your sense of taste
This film is worth it solely for that Take That song
remember The Sorcerer's Apprentice with Nicolas Cage and Alfred Molina. i think it was pretty solid standalone fantasy movie.
this is my favorite movie and i barely see anyone talk about it (positive or negative) so i’m super happy to see this
I love this movie so much! I once watched it on DVD four times in one day. No regrets.
THE BEST stand alone film ever!
#2 for me, would have to be Titan A.E.
I never seen Stardust, surprisingly, but great video!
i used to fall asleep to stardust for years! such a great movie
Yes, the ending was very "happily ever after" but I actually thought it fit the story better than the book ending, which was...bittersweet.
I watched this on cinema when I was 9. It was such a good time being a kid.
This is such a great film, the Latino dubbing is great also 😌👌🏽
I love this movie. It’s nice to see it get some love. My husband prefers Princess Bride but I like this one better.
Funny story, I found this movie and originally watched it to see Henry Cavill and he’s hardly in it. I stayed because if the great story and the humor.
I have loved this move since its release!
This is literally in my top 3 favorite movies of all time
I'll have to disagree (partially) on this movie not getting a sequel. The universe is so captivating that I'd love to see new stories in it.
Watched this when it first came out and loved it.
Id probably go for more an 8 out of 10, but that 10/10 soundtrack bucks it up to a 9 overall for me
Yeah I never understood why Lamia chose to free Yvaine rather than kill Tristan right there, only to try to kill them both later on anyways. Would have made more sense for Tristan or Una to knock her to the ground and have Tristan free Yvaine instead.
I also wish the movie had showed what happened to the Unicorn.
Lamia wanted Yvaine to quickly experience (false) hope, so that the star would return greater power to Lamia (upon Yvaine's death).
Lamia literally explains why she did it, she needed to give Yvaine false hope so he heart would be glowing and useful to her again, so she let them think they were free. Then she pulled the rug out from under them.
YES!!! One of my favorite fantasy movies of all time.
