I really love Tarja's voice here, I do enjoy when she goes full classical but I also really love her gentler sound. It's the same vocal style she uses in one of my favourite NW songs, Beauty of the Beast. It's a story told in three chapters, 1. Long Lost Love 2. One more Night to live 3. Christabel... I promise it's gonna be SO worth to analyse, it's a poetic masterpiece!! It'd be so interesting to hear your thoughts about it 🙏🏽🌷And the music!!! It's haunting. There's a lyrics video for it on UA-cam.
This is a song about Tuomas dealing with a (temporary) lack of inspiration and writer’s block (“The story behind the painting I drew is already told” and “My song is little worth anymore - Time to lay this weary pen aside”). His songwriting used to be like picking flowers from a blooming garden, but now it feels like this garden is dead (“All the orchids gone - Lost in my own world - Now I care for dead gardens”). To me, it also shows his dedication to Nightwish and the fans when he writes: “Tired but unable to give up - Since I'm responsible for the lives I saved". Also, about the ending of the song, it perfectly fits the feeling of writer's block, doesn't it? It's repetative and seems to be building up slowly. You expect a resolution, but it just stops. As a copy writer, I'm quite familiar with the feeling of writer's block. If you want to listen to a song which is not all that well known, try 'The Heart Asks Pleasure First' ua-cam.com/video/4RVmGpImbdk/v-deo.html It's sung by Anette and I quite like it.
This is a hidden gem💎 I'm glad you reacted to this one. Another hidden gem from this same album is Higher than Hope. It is absolutely a courteous song❤️ the story behind it is so tragic and sad. Then there is a song that wasn't on the original album, it is called Live to Tell the Tale. Tarja isn't that operatic on these last two Nightwish albums with her (Century Child and Once).
The ending being repetitive (almost sounds like the music is going mad) and then suddenly stopping is very much intentional. Tuomas said the song is about a time where he had terrible writer's block. So I read the lyrics as going through the things in his head where he felt pressure to write songs but didn't feel he had anything new he wanted to say but also didn't want to repeat himself. So that ending of feeling like you are repeating yourself and going crazy and then it suddenly stopping is very fitting. And it's quite ironic really that in order to break out of the writers block he wrote a song about having writers block 😄.

You don’t mind Tarja’s voice on this one. Wow, you’ve come a long way from “each version tells a different story”
Great guitars riffs, love this song. Volume up and let it destroy your hearing.

In the album it doesn't actually just stop, rather it transitions smoothly right into Romanticide.
