I bought one! I’m very pleased with it, if you rode a Dominator in the past, you’ll feel at home. After about 300 miles it’s loosened up and goes well, my only dislikes are that hazard switch, which I’ve cut the knob off, and a lack of neutral light, it puts a small “N” in the clock LCD which comes and goes slowly when you go through neutral. The standard tyres are woeful off road, buy surprisingly good on the tarmac, I’ll change them for some Twinduros. The fuel gauge is ok but underreads a bit. Overall the build quality is really good, as he says in the video, this is way better than the stuff we’ve come to expect from China, but don’t forget it’s made by Shineray who make bikes for Honda, it’s quite expensive for a Chinese bike, but quality comes at a price, I reckon.
@@Mafez800 Hi Manuel, yes I’m still happy with the bike, I really enjoy riding it, people are still stopping me and asking me about it! Although I don’t ride it very much at the moment as I’ve recently got into enduro riding and have bought a 500 Honda for that job. I’ve got it up for sale at DMA motorcycles if you fancy it, and you’re in the UK, £4300 and she’s yours with about 500 miles in the clock. Either way, I hope you have fun on mine or a new one, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
I was going to buy one but then I read in a bike review magazine that a service would cost you over £500. Something to do with the values checked. If I have to spend £500 every 2500 miles then it's going to get too expensive

with the small front wheel it looks more like a Super Moto bike. I agree the front wheel would look better if it was slightly larger, but the smaller wheel probably makes it more "flickable", with less gyroscopic effect.

Second time through this, and I don't think I left a comment, so have one this time. Stunning bike. As a former XT500 owner who lusted after a Dominator in the late 80s, this bike really appeals. 169 kg must be a dry weight, surely. I like the 17'' front wheel. I like the colour.

Got to be the best looking retro scrambler yet, really cool and a Honda engine a bonus. Great review to looks a quality build, wait til the Bike Shed boys get hold of it for a special.
I owned an XT 500 it was one of the most versatile bikes ever. Maybe not as refined as today's machines but in the day, great ride. You could go through hell and back on it. And it had a kick start for dead battery times. Having said all that I absolutely love this bike.
Great bikes. I do wonder how strong is the top end. I think the honda camshaft ran straight in the alloy head without bushes or bearings. The oil feed needs to be really good too and a good camchainband tensioner.
I have never heard of Mash motorcycles until I saw your video today. My friend who use to drag race Suzukis, and one of the best riders I've ever known would love the name, his name was James Mash. Unfortunately he died of cancer about six years ago. The only other motorcycle that even comes close in my mind would be the Royal Enfield Himalayan, but the Mash has twice the horsepower and that makes it the winner!
Love the bike, love the review, you are causing me all sorts of problems in choosing which of the bikes you've reviewed to go for, 250 Bluroc V2, Bullit 250 single scrambler, SWM 450, and especially this one, this one is just a beauty !
Excellent presentation, very targeted commentary and a great episode once again !!! Regarding the mash 650cc bike the only negative that I can spot, is that we don’t get to have it in Greece.... As an XT600E 2003 owner and with no intentions to sell it, I still want a new bike of the same style and philosophy, next to my old and trusty Yamaha That bike with a few changes, as you very well mentioned more than twice, could be a very good update for people that have this particular vintage, dual sport motorcycling approach.
I Love your videos! I have been waiting for this one! If I remember right, Mash people are thinking about a new version "kind of Adventure" with a 19 inches front wheel.
Was hoping to get the 690 KTM but just recently bought a house. This 650 Mash maybe the answer now. They are very different bikes but I just need something to cruise on more than anything else. Exactly what I was thinking! Brings back memories of SR/XT's from the late 70s to early 80s but none of the getting launched over the handlebars when they kick back! Good times!
I like the LOOK of the 17" front too, but how difficult would it be to get hold of a gold 19" or 21" rim laced up to the original hub? Is the speedo front wheel driven and can it be recalibrated?
Looks amazing, especially for the money. It looks well made. Having owned a 1995 Honda Dominator for 7 years I know how good that engine is. I would be interested to see how the Mash compares handling wise, as the Honda had a much narrower 21" front wheel. The efi and the oil cooler are notable improvements too.
Lovely bike, a 19 inch front wheel with a more functional mudguard and a larger capacity tank would seal the deal.Used to love my XT 500 forty plus years ago. Great review, keep up the good work. !!!

I nearly bought a bmw f750 ( still waiting on the phone call about the test ride from bmw Glasgow!) and at twice the price! Glad I didn’t the mash is great.... buy one and it won’t dissapoint.
Hi man, im thinking about buyng the new trail model. How is your bike doing at the moment? Im a little worried about its reliability and can't find many opinions. Thanks.

You said you were concerned that the small front wheel would make the front seem “stiff”, the opposite would be true, the larger diameter front wheel the more centripetal force = harder to turn, anyway that said, great review 👍, I’ll have to get one out for a test ride 👍

This new motorcycle is impressive even though its somewhat quirky looking with the small front wheel. It looks like one I would want to test ride if available in the central United States.
Very ‘Supermoto-esque’; you could put some super sticky road rubber on there for some proper hoonage! Looks great. Put a proper sump guard on and some proper nobblies on & it might be a tool off road too; could be a Himalayan beater? It’d be interesting to find out 🤔
HA! YES! Mine was the 666th like! (sorry, that's a first for me having something like that happen/posting something like that) Awesome review! I can't wait to watch more of them that you've done. Your style is extremely casual and real. I like it a lot.
I agree that it needs a 19" front wheel. I don't normally like the scrambler exhausts but on this bike it looks good. The bike overall looks great I think. What looked weird was how low your boots were during the ride, almost to scrape the road. I hope that wasn't because the suspension was so loose that road clearance dropped substantially to street bike level. It didn't look like that when you were sitting on it stationary. Power to weight ratio looks potent as well.
Great video I’ve just moved to Cyprus and am looking for something to potter about on and occasionally go off road. This could be a serious option. Many thanks 🙏
Youre Review is better than the German from the popular Motorcycle Magazin "Motorrad" You have better and more Information. Thank you and sorry, my english is not very well. Greetings from Germany.
I've just purchased one unregistered as I couldn't wait. Ill register it in March on a 21 plate. It's in my garage stood next to my fully restored 1979 XT500F, they look great together, I cant wait until the spring. I've had a couple of months to go over it with a fine tooth comb. Whilst it's no BMW or Honda, and as a mechanical engineer, the build quality is pretty good considering it came from China. Things I've found, the frame looks like its painted, not bad, spokes are not Stainless, some cable runs are poor along with some nasty cable grommets, some smaller bolts are plated steel but quite a few are surprisingly Stainless. Took me a while to work out how to switch the speedo from Kph to Mph. Cycle Ignition switch ON/OFF 3 times and leave on after 3rd cycle, nothing in the manual nor on line strangely. But come on, its a hell of a lotta bike for 5 grand brand new. I just love the look of it I've bought this just for summer tatting around in the Peak District Andy aged 60 , never thought Id admit to that publicly.....
Excellent vid, thats a a very nice nod to the past, which ahem older folk like me like👍👍needs more colour options, i always liked the Yamaha blue and yellow. 5k a lot of good looking bike.
I meant to say, regarding the neutral selection issue. It's a brand new bike, I'll bet that goes away after a few hundred miles. Both because of the gearbox needing to free up, but also you might be getting a bit of clutch drag with brand new clutch and oil?
Love the gold rims and the super moto look. I agree that a choice of colours would be nice. Looks good value on the face of it. Rather spend the extra few pounds and buy the Interceptor though.
i had the honda vigor .which was basically looks wise very simular to the mash . an that rode stupidly well with the smaller front wheel. proper back road silliness .
I’ve had 3 Xt500s and this is way, way better, and with XTs now about £8000, if you’re after something similar, this is a no brainer. 650cc, punchy motor, leccy start, excellent brakes, lovely.
I like the Mash, what's the fuel consumption and range? Can I fit luggage to it? I've got Lomo throw-over panniers, but that high level exhaust might cause a problem unless the Mash can be fitted with pannier racks. Those tyres are more road-oriented than the look of the bike suggests. I imagine that most Mash buyers will not be doing much off-roading, it's more about the street-cred. Which is totally OK, of course. For off-road or green lanes, I would have concerns about the plastic bash-plate and not so brilliant ground clearance that I can perceive from your video. I think you are right about the wheel-size issue, sure they look super-cool, but off-road performance would be improved by a bigger front wheel and decent 60/40 (on-off road) tyres. Try the new Royal Enfield 450 Himalayan, 40bhp, same as the Mash and with retro-styling. And cheap as chips. Love and peace.
Read on techzle: "In addition to the X-Ride 650 driven by us, there will also be an off-road version with 21 ”front wheel and 18” rear wheel", that sounds more up street. But then I did have an XT500 once upon a time
I had an xT500 back in 1980 would love to own this Mash as xt’s are at ridiculously high prices now ( and not worth a quarter of what people are asking for them ‘ I’ll have to wait for a second hand one though 😏
Agree about the front wheel look, but it would work with an old fashion mudguard! what is the point of the 'beak' anyway- fashion over function. Otherwise impressive bike.
This may be the first Chinese bike I wish we had available in Canada. Fortunately, we can still buy the Suzuki DR650 which is more rustic and not very comfortable (I know, I used to own one), but at least it's a proper air-cooled thumper. When it comes to this Mash, the looks scream Yamaha, which is a good thing. Would it look better with a 19" front wheel ? perhaps, but it's plenty good looking as it is. Edit: one month later, I just watched a French video in which a rep for Mash stated that they are working on a version with a 21" front and 18" rear wheels to be launched in spring 2021.
I preferred my DR650SE over the XR650L I had, mainly because of the engine. It's one of the few bikes I remember of the 40+ bikes I owned in the last 25 years, along with the XS650. If you can ride a DR legally in your country, you're lucky! Get one as long as they are still available! :)
@@PrimoStracciatella The DR650SE is still listed by Suzuki Canada for 2021, so we can still buy them new, although good used ones are plentiful and cheap. An alternative is the Kawasaki KLR650, possibly the best do-it-all motorcycle ever made. Kawasaki stopped making it 2 years ago, but like the Suzuki, used ones are cheap and plentiful.
Great review, never heard of these before as I'm young and into sports bikes, but I'm going to be in the Amalfi Coast with my girlfriend in a few weeks and despite having had an A2 for two years and now my full A, due to my age I am limited to what I can rent. My only two options beyond mopeds appears to be either the Royal Enfield Himalayan, or this (which I am fine with, a sports bike would definitely not be suited for the two of us!). I am leaning towards this as it's got around 10 more horsepower and is 20kg lighter so I think that will greatly help with a pillion, although I wonder if the ergonomics of the Himalayan (i.e. seat size and positioning) may suit a two-up ride better. She is only small so I'm sure it would work on this bike, will only be for a few hours over a day or two.
Nice! Spokes, too, not mags. Too bad you'd need to replace the front fender to keep muck and water from spraying all over the motor and down tube. What's up with that?
Provided it does 'The Ton'- I would have one of these, (fitted with clip-ons and a proper front mudguard.) Unfortunately- you do not mention BHP/ Rake and Trail- or fuel consumption!?! Certainly- it is an interesting machine- if you are into 'plonkers'.
Please MASH make a nice long-wheelbase cruiser/bobber with this engine and some nice exhausts, make it look old-school and you will sell crateloads everywhere. Super bike.
As you have reviewed both bikes, I'd be very interested in an objective pro/cons of the Mash x-ride vs Fantic Caballero 500 scrambler. Thanks for any feedback.
Hmm, tough call. The Fantic pulls better, but the Mash feels better to ride. The Fantic has better dash and switchgears, better quality. The Mash uses generic switchgears and a more basic dash. Both have equal handling ability. The exhaust sounds better on the Fantic but that is because the exhaust is the upgrade. Standard vs Standard I think the Mash is better sounding. I also prefer the standing ride of the Mash, but equal on the sitting ride. I prefer the look of the Mash with the style and wheels, but the quality of the Fantic.

Very ‘Supermoto-esque’; you could put some super sticky road rubber on there for some proper hoonage! Looks great. Put a proper sump guard on and some proper nobblies on & it might be a tool off road too; could be a Himalayan beater? It’d be interesting to find out 🤔
Really nice ! Great value. I’ve never even heard of MASH . Where is there factory?
France
@@666t nope, it's in China
@Someone Needs a Snickers love the bike but that made in China is a severe kick in the nadds, Chrs for the heads up🤙
@Wayne Sowerby why repeat an answer from 2 weeks ago - do you have
a stammer?
HA! YES! Mine was the 666th like! (sorry, that's a first for me having something like that happen/posting something like that) Awesome review! I can't wait to watch more of them that you've done. Your style is extremely casual and real. I like it a lot.
Thank you
I agree that it needs a 19" front wheel.
Great video
I’ve just moved to Cyprus and am looking for something to potter about on and occasionally go off road. This could be a serious option. Many thanks 🙏
Good looking bike. A bit too similar to the Ducati Desert Sled.
Tkanks for the Nice review. Nice bike.
Great looking bike ....I will have to give this serious thought
Youre Review is better than the German from the popular Motorcycle Magazin "Motorrad"
You have better and more Information. Thank you and sorry, my english is not very well.
Greetings from Germany.
Thank you
Nice bike ..would seriously consider buying one.
My type of machine
21 front please mash ????competition for himalayan ??? Cheers dave...
It’s a beautiful bike, looking very well made and one that’s been designed with every day usage in mind, pity the front end, may need a rethink..
My old OSSA MAR trials bike had a plastic sump guard .
Mind you it was GRP 15mm thick .
No fear of denting it tough as old boots
I just love the look of it
I've bought this just for summer tatting around in the Peak District
Andy aged 60 , never thought Id admit to that publicly.....
Cool, would love to see a photo of them together.
Excellent vid, thats a a very nice nod to the past, which ahem older folk like me like👍👍needs more colour options, i always liked the Yamaha blue and yellow. 5k a lot of good looking bike.
Yes, yes, would love to see it with a 19" front wheel.
Very nice looking bike, yet to ride one,but the old dominator was a great bike, looking forward to riding one
I meant to say, regarding the neutral selection issue. It's a brand new bike, I'll bet that goes away after a few hundred miles. Both because of the gearbox needing to free up, but also you might be getting a bit of clutch drag with brand new clutch and oil?
Great bike. I want one of these fitted with an FZ-09 power plant.
The old honda Dominator was a bugger for stalling at tick over especially when running in, mind you that was many years ago 👍🏻
EFI should sort that out...or if anyone has a dommie a 52 pilot jet helps with the stalling issue.
Love the gold rims and the super moto look. I agree that a choice of colours would be nice. Looks good value on the face of it. Rather spend the extra few pounds and buy the Interceptor though.
The frantic caballero is quite nice too, but this one looks nice too
i had the honda vigor .which was basically looks wise very simular to the mash . an that rode stupidly well with the smaller front wheel. proper back road silliness .
Nice bike, AJS need to up their game start making bigger cc bikes
A nice 650 retro roadster would be appreciated.
I know of an x-demo with street tyres on for 4k something
I own a 1979 Yamaha XT500, with gold rims (aftermarket). I can see one of these Mash X-Rides in my garage very shortly :-)
Where can you buy one and do you know the price?
@@peterbalac1915 approx £5k and a dealer in the UK
@@darrenclark6115 cheers Darren 🤙
Try the fantic cabellero 500 . They also do a 250cc and a 125.
Already have, done a video too.
Front brake reservoir is shouting “ go ahead, make my day”
Great vfm that. Good review telling us what we need to know
Agree about the front wheel look, but it would work with an old fashion mudguard! what is the point of the
'beak' anyway- fashion over function.
She is only small so I'm sure it would work on this bike, will only be for a few hours over a day or two.
so impressed looks and sound so god want one
Looks nice! my size too. But who's Mash? UK dealers?
Yeah, I like it and I've got the leathers in the same colours. 😀
Nice! Spokes, too, not mags. Too bad you'd need to replace the front fender to keep muck and water from spraying all over the motor and down tube. What's up with that?
XTish & should be a good seller in France. They have a love afair with the XT 500.
Yes it needs the bigger front wheel & an aluminium bash plate.
With those wheel sizes this bike is a tire change away from prime supermoto material I'd say.
What do you think this one against the fantic caballero 500?
xt 500,s are now expensive,i like the look, the equipment and price.a good seller i recon
I would love one. Looks great and if it’s a Honda engine you can’t go wrong. 👍🇬🇧
Good looking bike, good price and looks quality
Good looking bike, needs a 19" inch front wheel with low mudguard. Looks like a modern version of the old Honda XL185s.
Very good video , great looking bike from Mash
Many thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. I’m swaying towards the Fantic, despite the XT500 memories 😃
Great review as usual. So, this, or the Caballero??? 2 grand difference here in Malta.......
Hmm, tough choice. The Fantic is well built but not sure if 2 grand more well built. The mash is a great bike as is and looks better.
I'm curious about a comparison with a Fantic Cabellero Rally. Water cooled verses air cooled, longer travel and value on the price difference.
Like it. It would be good if you could sort out narrating as you ride, makes it more watchable.
Looks a great bike, but, what will it be like after a British winter?
You can do a long term test at that price!
Very nice looking bike. Especially like the tank shape. But I agree with you, the front wheel would look better at 19". 👍🇨🇦
If those were sold in the USA I'd buy one today. For now I'm waiting on the BSA 650 Gold Star announced last year & available...nobody knows when.
