Nice palette, nice consistency in architecture and steam punk art deco style, nice slow burning action, nice sound effects and music, characters very wooden, and would really like to know what the detective has discovered.
Thank you!! yes this was all the tech we had to work with at the time (its much improved now) and a very limited budget to produce the whole film... which also meant we had to cut the story short :)... so doing all we can to bring this series to life.. stay tuned!
This is brilliant, and the writing is superb. As a writer, it's the first thing that hits with me. And this? This was incredibly well written. But why wouldn't it be? Ally Burnham is very gifted. Great job!
Bro C'mon, I can't be the only one thinking this is What the street level of Gotham looks like from 'Batman the Animated Series' in the first 10mintues . The Vistas, window shots, the direction.. Gorgeous
YES! I took a lot of inspiration from the Batman animated series and Gotham. The artworks from Hugh Ferriss from the 1930's and 40's is another reference for Metropius
@@metropius7107This is an INCREDIBLE vision. I was hooked on the animation in five seconds flat. All that brutal art deco architecture in the middle of so much retro-futurism.
Ah yes .. you could say.. quite a small crew 🙄 The crew did an outstanding job considering the tiny budget and the tech we had access to at the time. Oh great glad you loved it thank you!
Wow; beautiful, thoughtful, complex, enticing. One of the few times I've seen something like this not devolve into mere tropes and shorthand for the sake of eye candy, devoid of story. The score was evocative and perfectly fitted, even able to stand on its own as good music without a film to be *for.* This is a proof-of-concept? It doesn't show. Even the cinematography showed this was a labour of love. This would have fit right into Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. The story left many questions yet to be answered, but that's fine by me; it is obvious it'll be worth the time to watch. Another potential trap: letting yourselves get rushed, or worse, pulled in other directions. It might be worth trying to set up a company to aggregate the assets and development (so the work can survive the departure of individual team members. Talent like this is hard to keep all in one place, but creating what exists so far wouldn't have been possible without such a diversity of abilities!)
Thank you so much for an amazing comment @stevejordan7275! staying true to the world, going into the tv series, is paramount to the integrity of the project. Thank you for your support and confirmation of this!
EXCELLENT concept ! I look forward to more of this !! The character creations are EXCELLENT - but I look forward to more development _there_ too . The world-building is VERY impressive , and it really crates a complete environment forthe story telling ! NICELY _done_ !!

Saw "Metropius", but read it as "Metropolis". Nothing like what I expected (obviously), but it has the beginnings of an interesting story, so I am thankful that I misread the title.

This is giving me a false memory of a Playstation 1 game or a PC game from the early 2000s. I find myself looking for a gameplay that doesn't exist. I love how the style of the animation is reminiscent of a time long gone. Reminds me of simpler times
Animation in any form is serious dedication. Pencil and inking a scene for every 1/4 of a second of a loony tune through the 5 or so minutes of it all, its an understatement to use the word commitment. This is no doubt another work of commitment even though its CGI. I bet that this work is a testament to months of adding another second to the previous one to get the 20 minutes that I just viewed. Great job and the storyline is making me want to see the next episode. The atmosphere has some feel of an ole Terry Gilliam movie "Brazil" but also some Blade runner too. I bet the creative team knows what an ISA bus is and what x86 means. Back to the drama. I wanna see the beginning again.🙂
Thank you! Serious amount of work. A year in building and designing, motion capture, optimising and animating, 3 months worth of lighting and exporting… then the sound design, composition and mix. Quite a lot of work :))
A bit rough, but gorgeous and metric tonnes of promise and intrigue! With some more resources, this could be flawless. Kudos to this small, clearly dedicated team! Eager for more, ASAP.
The decision to not have the main character speak for quite some time was an incredible artistic move - it lets the city speak first, firmly establishing its presnece and giving it a sense of priority. The viewer feels small in comparison and alienated against all the other things that are speaking. The main character - the viewer - only speaks when finally spoken to, finally acknowledged, finally breaking a sort of dream-like voyeurism. It accomplishes a lot very quickly in the way of tone setting and world-building.
Amazing. What a compliment! Thank you so much. You take risks when creating something like this, so to hear that speaks volumes. Thank you! I love how you got that the world is so imposing. The era of architecture and futurism in the 1930's as portrayed in this dieselpunk world held so much promise of prosperity, technological advances and greatness, and yet the fragility of humanity still lies at the center, being more of a hindrance than a need.
Yes yes! Was one of my favourite movies back in the day and definitely lots inspiration from Dark city in Metropius. Alex has seen our project and loved what we are doing :)
I see that Claire's hat changes from a solid color as she is wearing it, to a plaid pattern when it falls to the ground when she is taken by that machine. OR, do I need a new eye glass prescription again.
Yes we can only agree, this was a very limited budget production and the technology available to us at the time when we made this was quite limited.
