Fuel Fail! How to ruin your day, and maybe your engine.

  • Why do performance aftermarket FPRs fail so soon, and badly when the OE stuff doesn't?
In the last video I replaced an old diaphragm in the AEM Fuel Pressure Regulator. This non AEM replacement part has a lifetime warranty, but as you see in the video it didn't work for me and probably won't work for you unless you are running maybe very, very low fuel pressure. I mean low.
Near the end of the vid I try to fix it, I may try this again with a different size wire. If I had a lathe I'd build a plate with a lip on it to crush the diaphragm into the groove.
I need to figure out a reliable solution for this. Can I run stock with a big pump? In the meantime I think I should keep a spare regulator and tools in the car.

Bmw makes a 3.5 bar fpr built into a big filter. People make big power on them. Stock regulator for s e46 m3 or for a e39 530 model. Not sure what you chose to do so far. I know ive seen over 800hp on stock lines with that set up. Like i said in that other video. I Might try a dw fpr next. I know they are set up for less volume.

Sent you a request on instagram. So i can show you how fubar this low milage radium diaphram is. All radium parts are drop shipped. So places like drift h.q. that says in stock... they lie. (At least when it comes to radium parts)

Holy Sh*T!! That's crazy! That's so bad. How common is this problem? This is so difficult to trust. Man, the luck you've been having with this sucks. I hope a permanent solution can be found here. Blocking it off and tuning around it seems like a logical solution. I've done that before with my setup and I have no issues with it just making sure the AFR's are always correct., but then again, our setups are completely different. If you ever get to a point where you want to try another brand FPR, maybe GFB regulators will be the one to try. Just my thoughts. But man, that sucks.

I don’t know how the stock fuel pressure regulators never fail. I could run a stock regulator with this big pump, it may be like 70 psi. It the injectors function I can just tune it.

WTF! So had the AEM diaphram in it today?

Yup, back to a brand new diaphragm. No such thing as another brand lifetime replacement piece. I’ll just swap a new aem diaphragm in every 2-3, maybe 4 years.

@@GIZZMOTORSPORTS atleast that'll be more reasonable compared to how many O2 sensors you're burning thru

Utterly crazy how garbage this is for some big name parts and systems. What a pain in the butt! Stock seems to be best, unfortunately.

Ha! I was totally going to suggest putting a ring in the groove of the AEM to provide that extra clamping force - like copper o-ringing the block.

Ya I think stock has the best reliability by far, the Honda stuff never fails. Part of me wants to redo this low hp build with stock fpr, a walbro 190 and the minimum injector possible. But screw this other diaphragm. The o ring should do the trick. But for now I got a new aem diaphragm and coated the dry side with silicon grease. I hope it helps it live longer.
