Why Are Irreligious People So Successful? | Dr. Shabir Ally

  • Dr. Shabir Ally addresses a viewer's question: why do irreligious people often seem more successful? He explains that success varies widely, with both religious and non-religious individuals experiencing different levels of material success. The key difference lies in priorities. Religious people often focus on spiritual fulfillment and the afterlife, sometimes sacrificing worldly gains. For instance, Muslims may prioritize spiritual practices like fasting during Ramadan and attending Friday prayers over working more hours. Dr. Shabir emphasizes that worldly possessions can distract from spiritual growth, and that the ultimate goal for believers is the good of both this life and the hereafter, trusting in God's plan. Thus, success is not solely dependent on religious or irreligious status, but rather on individual choices and priorities.

Your rizq was written before you were born so it isn’t dependant on if you worship Allah or not, Allah doesn’t need our worship and he wouldn’t be the most merciful if he didn’t provide for everyone but you will see the benefits if you worship Allah, you will be able to handle a lot of stresses and have peace

People mistakenly measure success in term of how much money or power they have. What about happiness or serenity? Do you see the most content people in the world are the people who do not have in abundance. If possession is the main factor of happiness, then the richest people are the happiest people, which they are not.

@cmac7168 didn't prophet muhammad have 13 wives and right hand possessions? Wasn't he allocated 1/5th of the spoils? Didn't he have a group of followers treating him like a demigod?

    • @cmac7168
      @cmac7168 4 місяці тому

@@MuftiMasala Muhammad peace be upon him had 12 wives. Only two of which are generally accepted to have been conventional marriages. The others are considered to have been for political/cultural reasons in the cause of spreading Islam.
In Arabia, no one could carry on the work of reform and uplifting unless he belonged to, or was related to some specific and respectable tribe. Thus, in the interest of his mission, the Prophet (pbuh) needed inter-tribal relationships. He wanted to weld the quarreling tribal and clannish factions into one Muslim body, as brethren in faith (Ikhwan fi’d-din).
For instance, his wife Juwayreeyah (ra) belonged to the Banu Mustaliq clan, which was very powerful. The entire clan was a bitter enemy of Islam from the start, and they were finally suppressed by military action. When the Prophet (pbuh) married Juwayreeyah (ra), the Muslims released all their prisoners, saying that they could not keep the prophet’s relatives in bond4ge. It was due to this marriage that the whole clan of Banu Mustaliq accepted Islam and became peaceful and obedient to the laws of the new Islaa mic st4te.
As for him taking war spoils I.e benefitting financially from the spread of Islam - there is in fact no sign of this. He did not have any palaces, no deposits of wealth have ever been found stashed away and there is not historic record of him living a life of luxury. On the contrary - we can still visit his home to this day (it has been preserved) and we can see that he lived a very minimalist life.
As for being treated as a Demigod - well that depends on the definition you choose to go with of Demigod.
The Oxford dictionary gives two meanings to the term :
a being with partial or lesser divine status, such as a minor deity, the offspring of a god and a mortal, or a mortal raised to divine rank.
"some Roman emperors claimed descent from demigods such as Hercules"
a man who is greatly admired or respected.
"a former juvenile delinquent who would become a counterculture demigod"
If your argument is that Mohammed peace be upon him preached that he was divine - you will struggle to find evidence of this. On the contrary - the entire Qur’an is built on the emphasis that he is merely a man (although an important one) but he makes it extremely clear that he is not to be seen as any kind of deity - hence why we do not and are not allowed to create depictions of him in Islam.
If you mean demigod in terms of the second definition I.e “a man who is greatly admired or respected.”
Then yes, there are various historical records that he was greatly trusted and respected within his community before the revelation of the Quran.
This was not the case however when he began to receive his revelation as he was actually persecuted and 4ttacked for what he was teaching and had to leave his home town because of this.
He did then gain favour again after many years of struggle but this was not to his financial benefit.

religious and irreligious people can both succeed and fail at life. it's a matter of experience, skills and values that can decide the trajectory of one's life. that's secular way of answering it. but for religious people, our priorities is the world beyond while the irreligious on the world here. nothing wrong with that. as we can see, they both offer differing perspectives in how to move forward as a society. god did not create an easy world for us, so we must acknowledge the good and the bad of each other's perspectives and to work together on a common goal on improving self and others.

What annoys me most about these declarations is the very light emphasis placed on the fact that "success" and identifying success are Very subjective things. I put these questions no higher than two small children sitting together and one remarks that the others' cone has more ice cream. BION not everybody in this world gets the opportunity and disposible time to sit around bemoaning what they Don't have. Not to be snarky, but for a faith that prides itself on the acceptance of God's determinations, we Muslims could probably use a bit of self-reflection on this score, yes? Alhamduilah.

I disagree with pretty much everything he says. The question is fine but i believe it needs to be evaluated. It assumes that successful people are irreligious, and that brings the question; is this true? With around 2 billion muslims, +2 billion christian, and +1 billion hindu. and +0.5 billion buddhist, majority of world population is religious. According to wiki, 35% of world wealth is held by "irreligion or other" while rest is shared among religious people, with christians dominating. So the question fails to address a valid point. However, losing couple of hours in ramadan-period or friday-prayers wouldn't make the difference in this "success". This also assumes that other religions don't spend time doing religious rituals. Which of course is completely wrong. The idea that religion (let it be judaism, islam or christianity) prevents their followers from achieving success, is the making of wrongful teachings by their respective houses. Trying to justify or rationalize illiteracy or poverty by blaming religious practice is complete bogus. I would advice, whomever you may be or whatever you may believe in; go and make your own opinion.
    Edit: typo
