The 3 seashells is a reference to an old joke about a man that didn't know what they were. " A man goes into a restroom at a fancy restaurant and notices there is no toilet paper after relieving himself. Instead there was a little shelf with 3 seashell shaped buttons. He pushes the first seashell and a bidet fountain of water cleans his backside. He pushes the second one and warm air blows and dries him off. Lead actor Sylvester Stallone starred in Cliffhanger the same year as this, while Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in Last Action Hero. The actor playing Simon Phoenix, Wesley Snipes, is also in White Men Can't Jump, Passenger 57, U.S. Marshalls and Blade 1-3. Edgar Friendly is played by Denis Leary
Stallone and Snipes reunited in The Expendables 3; also Schwarzenegger was also in the first 3 films along with many of the big name action stars of the 80s-90s.
Technology moves so fast now it's harder to dream big through movies. From the sixties, they envisioned Skype, electric cars, smartphones, GPS, Siri and much more, but they were approached as very large dreams.
To be fair, some of the ideas are a lot older than that, it's just that the terminology changed as the real technology was born. Remember, Dick Tracy had a video watch in the '30s. In old SF it was popular for electric vehicles to use "fuel cells". That technology is real, but has been demonstrated that it does not scale up, so actual electric vehicles are different.
Demolition Man seemed like an epic action film for 1993. Although for me, The Fugitive was one of the best films of that year. Action films today are not what they used to be. Also, Abby is so good at reacting solo, I think she is the best solo reactor after seeing this. Could you imagine how Abby would react to the original Scarface from 1932? I would love to see Abby to the 1932 original Scarface because it was insanely violent, forcing a censorship code of violence in 1934.
Abby, you are priceless! I've never heard anyone say "Eek" outside a comic book. But you did it. Just another reason why I love you. Never change. This movie is loosely based on Aldous Huxley's scifi classic Brave new world (Phoenix actually says these words when fighting down in the basement of the museum) . His lead female character was called Lenina, and the hero was John Savage - a man out of his time. Huxley's society wa split into two factions, servants and masters (equivalent to Friendly and Cocteau's populations).
One of my favorite action movies of all time! So glad you, R2, and Boo got so much enjoyment from it. If you're interested in more Denis Leary, one of my regular Christmas movies is one called The Ref.
Dont think there is a Demolition Man 2, but if you loved that they mentioned Arnold as the president then you will enjoy The Last Action Hero with Arnorld. If Sly and Arnie are not in the same movie they always keep mentioning each other in most of their movies.

Back in 93 you were lucky to have a cell phone, let along anything with video. PDA's just started to be released, but there will little more than notepads. There were cell phones but they needed a carrying charging station along with an antenna the size of the phone.
Yes, this movie was very successful and well-loved back in the day as well. Fun fact 1: That Jeffrey Dahmer reference was removed shortly after the premiere, after Dahmer having been killed by a fellow inmate, but it was later reinstated. Fun fact 2: if you felt like the movie was setting us up for Spartan reuniting with his daughter, you're right. That scene was eventually deleted but the daughter can still be briefly seen in the background: she's one of Edgar Friendly's scraps. Fun fact 3: Wesley Snipes actually had to fake being a WORSE fighter than he really was during those fight scenes. His martial art moves were so incredibly fast that the film team had to tell him to slow them down - because the cameras couldn't keep up.
Stallone himself revealed how they work in a 2006 interview (via Ain't It Cool News): OK, this may be bordering on the grotesque, but the way it was explained to me by the writer is you hold two seashells like chopsticks, pull gently and scrape what’s left with the third. You asked for it…. Be careful what you ask for, sorry.
Stallone and Arnold were in huge competition as to who's the biggest action star of the 80-90s. So when Arnold did naked scenes for Terminator, u knew Stallone would have to do this and his assassin movie! Wesley Snipes did some great movies. This, passenger 57, Blade trilogy, jungle fever, and White Men can't Jump. He also has a bit part in the new Deadpool movie, because Blade 3 had Ryan Reynolds!

I used to go to Anime Expo at the L.A. Stallone was made a 'seamstress' in this. A footnote which didn't escape Schwarzenegger's writers on the latest Terminator film - making it/him an Interior Designer.
Ever since I saw this movie, I occasionally get a braving for a rat burger. Haven't acted on it yet, and I never plan to. Still, you can't deny that Stallone made it look tasty.
Good to see you enjoying this fun movie that deserves more attention than it gets. Good humor, action and special effects keeps this movie going. I would also be in the poorhouse if I was fined for swearing in that future society. The movie "District 9", is another great movie that gets very little attention especially from reactors who are bypassing a great SiFi movie that is unequalled for it's time 2009, which I highly recommend watching with Toy if she hasn't seen it yet.
"This is what they thought the future would look like" I'm paraphrasing here. So many people say this about movies that take place in the future, and it annoys me. This isn't what they actually thought the future would be like. It's a movie. It's a fun take and satire.
I believe that the 3 seashells were never meant to be understood by the audience, so I don't bother trying to make sense of it. I find the story works better that way.
A movie that came out a few years ago that I haven't seen much attention to is a movie called Upgrade (2018). This is a surprisingly good movie given it's low budget. Also, you should check out some other movies that are in this sort of genre like Strange Days, The Thirteenth Floor, and Dark City (my favorite out of all of these). When watching Dark City, watch the Director's Cut. The original included a narration that spoiled the whole plot, avoid that version at all costs.
Good film but my favorite S. Stallone film that tends to miss the reviews is Oscar, if you ever do it get comfortable before you hit play as you will miss a lot if you take any breaks. I also love one with his brother and Bruce Willis called Hudson Hawk. Both are more comedy than they tend to get type casted into because of their biggest hits like the Rocky, Rambo and Die Hard films.
"He has a realty show; that's how I know him" may be the saddest sentence I've ever heard. For more of Stallone's not depressing content, please see: the Rocky and Creed movies First Blood the MCU (Guardians of the Galaxy 2 & 3) The Suicide Squad Samaritan Antz Oscar Tango & Cash The Expendables Cliffhanger Daylight Lock Up Judge Dredd Your Studio and You ...
Producer's show: this reaction was recorded a long time ago. Abby has since watched a number of films with Sly and Arnie, Tango and CAS included. That was a really fun movie!
Excellent reaction 👏 I felt the same way about the cussing fines, I'd be getting fined often unfortunately 😂 The costumes remind of a blend of Star Wars and Final Fantasy 🙂 To this day I don't think anyone has figured out how to use the three sea shells 😅
Great movie. Westly Snipe is a great actor. You should see his other great movies Passenger 57 and Blade . In the Europe version of the movie it is Pizza Hat instead of Taco Bell.since is Taco Bell is not that common in Europe :). What I think you miss is that Arnold and Stallone were kind of competitors in the 80s and 90s that is why they make fun of the other in their movies :).
@RuntotheMovies Abby fun little fact about the Arnold Schwarzenegger Presidential library line was only put in Sandra Bullock's script Sylvester Stallone did not know about that line and was kept out of the loop of it so his shock reaction of that was actually real. Also that building was an actual building they actually blew up for the movie also fun little fact about the three seashells they are basically one of The producers crazy ideas looking at a potpourri bag in a bathroom. Just as a heads up though this movie is kind of a complicated one because it's either love it or you hate it there's no real gray area
I always thought Seashell 1:intiate process Seashell 2: spray water Seashell 3: air dry That makes sense to me, even though it's just a recurring joke there's purposefully no answer to.
I always figured it was Shell 1: bidet Shell 2: airdry Shell 3: flush but we ae both thinking along the same lines, most people think of real seashells and not seashell shaped buttons.
@josoffat7649 that's right. Every time somebody asks for theories I add mine. I'm pretty sure I've written exactly what you said before. My 1 & 2 describe the same thing here. Hope I didn't misdirect any inventors.
Amazing how well they predicted today's cancel culture and political correctness. Then again the beginnings had been stirring a few years. Have always loved this movie and no I still don't know how to use the three seashells
‘Cancel culture’ is just people experiencing the consequences of their actions. Political correctness is just being aware that other people have feelings which is hard for a lot of right wingers because they lack empathy
Off the subject of the movie, but When I had a stroke, I could stand or walk to get help nor could I speak or get my phone's touch screen to work to call for help for three and a half days. I was afraid I was going to lie there and die of starvation, but after a few days I could stand and hobble as long as I kept my right knee straight so the joint was locked (I had little or no muscle function in my right leg) an speak somewhat and could get my phone to work, though I misdialed a lot. As I waited by my door for help, my backpack which still contained a bag of corn tortillas I bought on the day I had the stroke was by the front door, so the first food I ate in over three days was a couple of corn tortillas. Now, eating corn tortillas for me is kind of like some people eating matzah (a traditional unleavened flatbread) at Passover. It reminds me of how I could have died, but whether through dumb luck or divine intervention, my life was spared. Now I tie this into movies. My neighborhood theater was running a Dark Knight trilogy marathon where they showed all three Nolan Batman films back to back every night for a week. Because it was in April, the bakery across the street was taking orders for fresh, house baked matzah for Passover. They had a sign in front that had a bat symbol drawn on it and said "The Dark Knight Rises, but the matzah doesn't. Order your Passover matzah today." That was so cute and clever.
8:07 did you seriously just call him the Terminator I mean did you even pay attention to one bit of Terminator or Terminator 2 whatsoever they were robots Sylvester Stallone's character is a human
The prevailing theory about the seashells is that they are decorative switches for a bidet. Wash, rinse, dry. There's no official answer from the movie's makers. I used to think you used them in a progressive scraping action... wasn't sure about cleaning them after... ew.
----- - Well, there are only 6 ways of using the shells with non-repeating shells, so it shouldn't be that hard to figure out. But then again, he was all over the place, so I guess he didn't have that much to spare to actually figure it out. Japanese toilets, on the other hand, can range from very simple to PHD-level learning curve requirements. From what I've seen, they have some seriously weird sh!t, man... -----

To see Wesley Snipes playing a less flamboyant yet still cool good guy, check out "Passenger 57."
Fun reaction!
Thank goodness the producers were persistent and Wesley had a change of heart. He initially turned down this role.
Dude, I've seen this movie so many times, never noticed Jack Black😅
Snipes needs to embrace being bad guys. He is SO good at it.
snipes need to embrace paying taxes 🤣

I believe that the 3 seashells were never meant to be understood by the audience, so I don't bother trying to make sense of it. I find the story works better that way.
8:48 RIP Bill Cobbs.😢
We are running out of time before thus is present day and i still havent figured out how tge 3 sea shells work
A movie that came out a few years ago that I haven't seen much attention to is a movie called Upgrade (2018).
If meat and spicy food are illegal, that will really limit the Taco Bell menu.
"He has a realty show; that's how I know him" may be the saddest sentence I've ever heard.
For more of Stallone's not depressing content, please see:
the Rocky and Creed movies
First Blood
the MCU (Guardians of the Galaxy 2 & 3)

Producer's show: this reaction was recorded a long time ago. Abby has since watched a number of films with Sly and Arnie, Tango and CAS included. That was a really fun movie!
Good reaction. In the German version phoenix says in the cryo prison " Charles Manson!? Instead of Jeffrey Dahmer.
Excellent reaction 👏 I felt the same way about the cussing fines, I'd be getting fined often unfortunately 😂 The costumes remind of a blend of Star Wars and Final Fantasy 🙂 To this day I don't think anyone has figured out how to use the three sea shells 😅
I love how you guys say money shot. Lol. Look up what a money shot is. 😅
Jack Black was a extra in this movie. Then glad was in cable guy after this.
Awesome coolest funniest amazing and lovely reaction every time 😇 🎉
He's in my car.
woo.
I always thought
Seashell 1:intiate process
Seashell 2: spray water
Seashell 3: air dry
That makes sense to me, even though it's just a recurring joke there's purposefully no answer to.
I always figured it was
Shell 1: bidet
Shell 2: airdry
Shell 3: flush
but we ae both thinking along the same lines, most people think of real seashells and not seashell shaped buttons.
@josoffat7649 that's right. Every time somebody asks for theories I add mine. I'm pretty sure I've written exactly what you said before. My 1 & 2 describe the same thing here. Hope I didn't misdirect any inventors.
I loved this movie
Amazing how well they predicted today's cancel culture and political correctness. Then again the beginnings had been stirring a few years. Have always loved this movie and no I still don't know how to use the three seashells
@@Fishcake-y7v pretty much already here. Try using the wrong "pronouns" on someone.
In Germany they already fine people for making the Sieg Heil gesture, even in jest
@@ProtossWannabe1984 that makes watching Eurotrip hard in Germany
‘Cancel culture’ is just people experiencing the consequences of their actions. Political correctness is just being aware that other people have feelings which is hard for a lot of right wingers because they lack empathy
@@ProtossWannabe1984 in Germany they are very tough on Nazi stuff and for very good reason because they don’t want history to repeat
We are becoming this society.
Welcome to the afterlife of 3 seashells 😅
I used to think you used them in a progressive scraping action... wasn't sure about cleaning them after... ew.
They made fun of the thawing out scene in Austin Powers.
Abby, Simon Phoenix will remind u of blade when u get there,
They couldn't fine Pheonix for curaing as not lojacked with the tracker so was not in the system
12:58 he's a block of ice I'm pretty sure he's hot and sweaty

- Well, there are only 6 ways of using the shells with non-repeating shells, so it shouldn't be that hard to figure out.
But then again, he was all over the place, so I guess he didn't have that much to spare to actually figure it out.
Japanese toilets, on the other hand, can range from very simple to PHD-level learning curve requirements.
From what I've seen, they have some seriously weird sh!t, man...

Abbi after watching guardians, do you have any other movie on your must watchlist?
