I just realised this recently, but the starmap changes to reflect the canon timeline of territorial control of the factions as the years go by which is pretty cool.
It is so awesome to see it change, but it is also kind of depressing when you realize that the game was rushed out and the team's overall plan was cut short to meet sales goals. This is not a slight against the game, it is just the business side of things. I kept praying for a special moment where you see a beacon, mission, or something relating to a clan invasion. I would have even settled for inner-sphere political missions... but it seems like just the colors on the map change. =(
@@jong2359 The game was not rushed. It was in playable pre-alpha in December 2016, the video is available on Piranha Games UA-cam channel. While the early headway could be attributed to MW:O, the game was supposed to be released in 2018 but got delayed for over a year, usually a few months at a time since at least June 2018. As of the beginning of 2019, the level generator, physics and AI were completely broken (still don't work right, AI is very one-sided and rarely plays tactically outside of light mechs, tank turret pop and mech ragdoll are still glitchy, and I've had turrets spawn inside of walls). I think this is just a case of a very small team trying to make too big of a game. Piranha Games is a comparatively small developer, and that gets split even further because of MW:O. On top of that, who knows what kind of experience the devs actually have designing a game like this. A huge game world with changing markets and a distinct political timeline as well as procedurally generated missions and maps. All along with the normal player/enemy power level progression, reward and salvage system and narrative that you would expect from a linear MW game like Vengeance. It's a really big game to build from scratch. The other Mercs games already had a single player game to build off of and for the devs to learn from, and are bigger and better than their base games as a result. MW5 devs only had MW:O, which basically just gave them mech art assets and a set of parameters to tweak. No AI mech or vehicles, linear campaign levels, progression ideas, potential story beats, single player game balance, etc. While I wish MW5 felt as complete as MW4: Mercs, what we got is still good. You can tell where corners were cut, but you do get the sense that gameplay came first and that they took a lot of care to make it feel good to pilot a mech and blow things up. I hope that Piranha continues to work this game. Maybe in a couple years we can have bug-free level generation and a clan invasion expansion. The relatively bare bones nature of the strategy layer leaves a lot of room to grow as well. Honestly, I just want my Timberwolf.
also attribute the fact that they've been working on Cryengine with MWO for basically over 6 years and now decided to switch to unreal engine 4 a game engine in which most of the devs proabably have little to no experience with
Baradul: Saying unexpected The Expanse reference. Me: He's man of culture. BTW, the character CAPT. TEMPLE reminds you is probably Ashford. He is far different from the books in the TV show in very positive ways.
I'm glad you got an atlas! The first one I got was an Atlas RS. It's a pinpoint nightmare dual PPCs, an LBX slug, and an LRM 20 stream + Artemis, all 4 pips. The first mission I had in it was unexpectedly full of tanks and stuff, too. I feel like the game just throws extra stuff when you get an Atlas just to keep you humble :D I got that while still largely in Davion space, so most of my drops were that Atlas, and 2 Hunchbacks. Yay for exploring Kurita space early. It felt like pulling a Navarro in Fallout 2. Also, glad you got that Rank 5 LRM, I didn't know there was a higher ranking than 4 pips!
It seems like a lot of players are trying to brawl their way through these missions, and getting their mechs shredded as a result. Exploiting range and line of sight is the traditional way to fight superior numbers in MW games.
Nah, when brawl, you just need to kill fast enough. The faster you kill, the less damage you take. Its Impossible to snipe in some mission. Mech shredded isn't a problem because you don't have to rely on rare weapons.
I think a lot of that is because of the nature of the random anime small ones as well as the very poor performance of radar. If people had radar that was more reliable they could better control long-range engagements
The problem is youll see an AI in your lance with a catapult with 2 LRM 15s just run a circle around a guy 50 meters away. And the enemy always loves to spawn ontop of you. So your only chance if your using AI is a carolian tactic. Id imagine with 3 co-op teammates this game would be a lot more fun and easy.
Previous versions of MW the Quickdraw was my mid-game go-to for my hired pilots- go max armor, 4 med lasers and 2 LRM5s in torso- cheap build with decent damage potential, not costing a million credits if they lose an arm
24:53+ see that building in front of you with the pipe, with red markings? that pipe explodes and does damage when you run into it. shoot it instead and it will do extra damage to the building instead of damage to you.
After rep 11 you will have more 400 tons limit missions be prepared for that. For example mission when you will face your father's killer has 330 tons limit. If you want to buy LRMs so look for LRMs with Artemis or stream LRMs. Best option is stream LRM + Artemis, regular LRMs are not good, too much spread. If you see high tier SRMs so take them all, you will replaced them pretty often.
Let me say this one more time ; FORMATION FORMATION FORMATION !!! Try to keep in mind that you don't want to stay in your teammates line of sight (or rather line of fire) nor have them in yours , no matter the terrain you're dealing with … and try to learn how to use cover so you don't end up spending so much on repairs. I haven't seen a single timer to complete the missions in this game and yet you keep rushing all the time. Take it easy and happy holidays !
Love to see some advice comments have been posting have started to make differences in the series; Hero mechs are really great ways to get tech and glad to see the buy>resell strategy getting used. Something I would note is that a TAG is actually much more effective than you may think, and possibly by extension NARCs, so long as you give your AI lancemates those two weapons; Without meticulously commanding your lance to attack targets you are painting or NARC'd, they won't really get the true advantages of those systems, not the mention how you will have to skillfully tag and NARC targets regularly, but AI can tag targets for yourself and other Lancemates to help boost the performance of other mechs without being a major aspect you have to control. TAG won't really help the piloted mech, however, as they will probably end up having to be in close ranges to use those weapons, but Streaks I suppose could be equipped on TAG equipped mechs.
I've been raggin on this game, but here are things I actually do like: Repair cost mechanics incentivising you to have spare mechs, basically as a resource for how long you can stay in a system for missions until you have to go back to a save harbor for repairs. Although one does wonder where the hell you can fit all these mechs on a Leopard. Tonnage restrictions forcing you to make tradeoffs with teh mechs you take into a mission. Reminds me of the events we do in MWLL, where teams a usually given tonnage and BR (BR= Battle Rating, since MWLL uses fixed loadouts) restrictions before a match.
It gets totally broken at rep 10+ where the game expects you to complete 80 difficulty missions with a 260 tonnage limit. No idea what they were thinking there
@@HumbleHonkingEnthusiast They expect you to use hero mechs. Pull up smurfy or mech-nav alpha, pull up the hero, and choose the stock loadout. Last night, I went to a random planet in Marik space only to discover that it was in a industry hub with a heroic mech for sale. Oh, and that heroic mech was an Atlas that was nice and cheap.
I'm pretty keen to see the Atlas. I'm at the same level as this episode, and I've not come across anything good... except a Hero Highlander.... with a Gauss for 20mil C-bills.... thing is a beast! Lol
1: As a Medium/Heavy Laserboat pilot, I do not understand something too said. "Too Much Heat Management". I've never once had this problem in my life. 2: I started laughing harder than I should have when you got the Atlas Cored and nearly lost it.
My personal favorite is quad MPL on those marauders arms, I'm amazed you sold them. Especially late game with UAC5. The Dps vs heat Is insane Also the 5d is a rare spawn too! Also AC20 BF is hot garbage later on.. damage is too spread out, it's really unfortunate. Standard wins on the 20s
Until spawn engine is changed, most of the fights are going to be brawls except in set piece demolition and similar. Even demo has its brawl moments when your taking down the buildings and reinforcements are popping up. I think the simplest AI fix is to create engagement parameters you can select as overall tactical options for your AI pilots. Battle roles such as: Brawler Sniper Skirmisher Fire support, etc And then aggression values to push heat values and armor usage. Each parameter assigns tactical doctrines to the AI for movement, targetting priorities, heat usage, etc.
Another video featuring The overheating Shadow Hawk shutdown machine There is some hope now as the tonnage goes up that the Shadow Hawks days are numbered and finite.
The tank spawn upsets me by way of the repair cost. At least mechs get a dropship to warn me but them tanks will pop up right behind nonstop. Them heavies with the missiles and cannons are no joke in a small mech too. Story of my life. I used to play the old Battletech and I would use like a mele mech and wade through mechs like a hot knife through butter. Only to get murdered from across the map by a tank. I used to be a merc then I took an Arrow 4 to the knee.
Your atlas is underpowered. You can use srm6 artemis + lrm15, ac20 and 4 medium lasers and Max armour and have good heat management. Alpha of the srm and ac/20 is a ct shredder.
Yea, they defo need to include a way to command your pilots to engage at certain ranges. Just because a mech has small lasers, doesn't mean they should go "banzaiing" in close range when you have ac5's on each arm....
He like the D. i sold most of my mecks for my atlis D.. I found if you outfit your mecks with SRMs and SL aka short range your mecks will brawl but if you put LRM's with short range your mecks will try and stay at long range before closing.. thats what i have seen anyway..
The Catapult Jester hero mech has a whopping 8 double heatsinks for like 8m and the Urbanmech K9 hero mech has 8 double heatsinks for like 2.7m. If you see those definitely pick them up if you can afford it.
you sick bastard! you stole children's toy car! PS: loving this play through, learn quite a lot from it, keep up the good work, and quit steal children's toy car!
THIS is the first MW5: Mercenaries video I watched.... did not know there is this game... all the while I thought MW5 was that FPS game. How do you rate this game vs BattleTech? I knnow you are streaminng BT more lately, but that game is very unresponsive on my machine.
Those 315 Tonnage limit missions are crazy. the enemies just keep coming! I got a brand spanking new King Crab and got molly whopped almost completely towards the end of a defense mission. lost one of my tier 3 AC20s. I think i need to go back to earlier tier missions to level up my max level 45 mechwarriors
mami3790 Yeah something seems way off with difficulty ratings. I did a rep 9 270t drop raid mission at difficulty 59 today in a spanking new Atlas Boars Head (can highly recommend btw) supported by well armed and armored heavies piloted by 40+ skill pilots with high pilot/defensive skills and only made it to the second of 4 objectives before the entire Lance was just torn completely apart by the endless streams of enemies being thrown at us. There was absolutely nothing I could do. Tried the mission 4 times with different approaches. Different mechs as support. Didn’t matter. Not one bit. Hate to see what even higher difficulty missions are like.
mami3790 That’s why I always use Hero KinTaiRo for all the missions, 3 SRM6 and 2 SRM4 just shredded everything and they never overheated on a hero mech
@@kiathunadriel8332 I did more tier 10 missions at around 60-70 difficulty (dont remember, just the tonnage limit was 315) and some were definitely more intense than the others. I did a defense and was fucked over massively by heavies and assaults and endless tanks. BUT did a warzone at the same difficulty and not a single assault spawned, just mediums, some heavies and tanks, and made it out with under 100k damage in repairs. I think if you can't handle a mission in a system, either take another contract or jump somewhere else within the same conflict zone bubble and do another. The difficulty seems to be all over the place, even at the same rating.
@@69crescent13 i've just been buying hero mechs for their double HS at the moment. unfortunately mediums just can't cut it at the moment, not enough damage on them. I'm running a King Crab main, and AI's have Orion for Brawler, Archer for fire support and Warhammer sniper. Seems to be doing well so far. Though the Orion does take a beating in the hands of the ai. nothing serious tho as long as i keep an eye on him.
@@kiathunadriel8332 also i tend to skip tier 8 and 9 missions completely. they seem to be in this awkward stage where the difficulty is just so immense. i do my xp grinding at tier 7, and once i had enough money for more mechs and parts, i fly straight to tier 10 OR do tier 9 high reward missions (which are basically just tier 10 missions)
I hope you can make your brawling work. Personally, I find bringing ranged builds to slowly kill enemies from far and then moving in in Demolition and Assassination missions work best. Also, my AI lance-mates don't keep losing components this way.
I find Unions and Mules kinda boring since they're just spheres with engines, but having an armed dropship that can cover your rear in a entreat or hot-drop would be interesting.
I found a Highlander with the supposedly lostec Gauss rifle. I gotta say I love the Gauss rifle but damn it is annoying when the AI targets your arms and you lose it. Since Gauss rifles are so rare it's better off to restart the mission over again than risk losing it forever.
Oh look, Harmony Gold I see somebody who knows of the Robotech/Macross dilemma. I would take a Whammy over a Marauder any day I by now am at 200 Mill cash, have one Highlander (Gauss version), a Charger, 3 Archers, 2 Whammys, a Cataphract, a Rifleman and my old Centurion (and an Awesome I basicalle rebuilt into a Whammy), Rep Legendary but just entered Marik Space. I hardly see any Assault Mechs for sale other than Awesomes and Victors.
Sadly he recorded most of this series already. Comments will not help for many episodes to come. I always cringe when I see simple stuff like when he grabbed the quickdraw in salvage but forgot to grab the other 2 points of salvage. lol
I think for the warhammer, you need to take off some of those close range weapons and either armor up, or replace with mid to long range. Just mho, tho.
u dont need to visit a Industrial Hun for repairs, jsut the nearest System outside a conflict zone works fine if its just "out for repairs and back into the fight right after" ^^ and just to have it said (for the 10th time lol) i realy enjoy those episodes =) realy great u have an Atlas, Stalker and a Marauder now, thats insane >_
giving the warhammer a 2/5 evasion Pilot seems rather risky lol and oops u took only 16/18 salvage shares in that mission where u got the Quickdraw >_< the Atlas "Test run" was swarmed so hard because u pushed forward way to fast (lol with an Atlas >_
As a reminder: Don't put DHSes, MPLs, LPLs, or any Lostech in AI mechs. They only ruin the tech when they get destroyed, and don't utilize it to its best because they're AI. The AI seems to do the best with machineguns and SRMs.
Don't under ton the 315 to 340 missions. All pilots are vets to Aces. Waves escalate in tonnage. Don't forget to pick up pilot Akbar for next campaign mission.
I know a lot of people like them but the shadow hawk is massively out classed by just about everything. The only thing it brings at this point is a bit of speed but that just means it gets in there to be destroyed faster... lol.
You finaly got one :D My Atlas D runs with 2x srm6 art Iv tier 4 Ac20 BF tier 4 or AC20 tier 5 4x MP tier 4 624 armor 120 rounds AC 900 rounds SRM Full with DH 90+ dmg 2.6 cooling
When it comes mech type availability and purchasing does the game give better mech choices for buying on specific named worlds or is just based on industrial world type.. for instance would you have a higher chance of finding stalker and awesome variants on planet Irian since they are both made by Irian Battlemechs Unlimited?
I Cannot believe you just sold two Double Heatsinks to the market

Salvage screen could really do with a value divided by share cost column
He like the D. i sold most of my mecks for my atlis D.. I found if you outfit your mecks with SRMs and SL aka short range your mecks will brawl but if you put LRM's with short range your mecks will try and stay at long range before closing.. thats what i have seen anyway..
Your spelling of 'mech is a crime against humanity
SO EXCITED
Adjust the armor values on your new mechs. I think you forgot to. Pretty sure you could have gone a lot longer with your Atlas if you had.
Finally an Atlas!!!!
Thanks for the video.
THIS is the first MW5: Mercenaries video I watched.... did not know there is this game... all the while I thought MW5 was that FPS game.
How do you rate this game vs BattleTech? I knnow you are streaminng BT more lately, but that game is very unresponsive on my machine.
Atlas is my spirit animal
Atlas has so much potential
Holiday Shopping Spectacular!
I would love to have the ability to get a union class dropship and upgrade it … and of course the leopard too 😀
I find Unions and Mules kinda boring since they're just spheres with engines, but having an armed dropship that can cover your rear in a entreat or hot-drop would be interesting.

So, a Fortress?
Long Tom for the win :)
I found a Highlander with the supposedly lostec Gauss rifle. I gotta say I love the Gauss rifle but damn it is annoying when the AI targets your arms and you lose it. Since Gauss rifles are so rare it's better off to restart the mission over again than risk losing it forever.
great Video! Shawks are AC-based mechs. The engine is too heavy for the mech to be both powerful AND heat efficient!
You should keep the SRM on Atlas for short range fight, the basic loadout is good, just upgrade weapons for higher tier.
Certain mission types just throw an absolutely ludicrous number of vehicles and turrets at you... Especially Raid.
Oh look, Harmony Gold
I see somebody who knows of the Robotech/Macross dilemma.
I would take a Whammy over a Marauder any day
I by now am at 200 Mill cash, have one Highlander (Gauss version), a Charger, 3 Archers, 2 Whammys, a Cataphract, a Rifleman and my old Centurion (and an Awesome I basicalle rebuilt into a Whammy), Rep Legendary but just entered Marik Space.
I hardly see any Assault Mechs for sale other than Awesomes and Victors.
Now we're going heavy duty!
Atreus is the capiltol system of house marik.a visit there could be worth it.
Wish you could customize your drop ship as well.
Btw, hero urbie has 8 double heat sinks.
...still no ammo for the Warhammers SRM6.... please put some ammo in it, maybe when you take the small lasers out you will notice?
That poor Marauder. But you can put it together proper later.
Excited for Atlas, and I don't like small lasers
As a reminder: Don't put DHSes, MPLs, LPLs, or any Lostech in AI mechs. They only ruin the tech when they get destroyed, and don't utilize it to its best because they're AI. The AI seems to do the best with machineguns and SRMs.
Atlas for the Win
I call the orange weapons god tier lol
Don't under ton the 315 to 340 missions. All pilots are vets to Aces. Waves escalate in tonnage. Don't forget to pick up pilot Akbar for next campaign mission.
mad 3 lbx cannon. nice or altlas lbx cannon..super fine mech
I know a lot of people like them but the shadow hawk is massively out classed by just about everything. The only thing it brings at this point is a bit of speed but that just means it gets in there to be destroyed faster... lol.
honestly more gibbly about the marauder than the atlas. also keeping the lurms on the stalker might have been an advantage.
Why does your cockpit hud has weapon indicators? My hasn´t.
Activate them in the options
I chuckled a little when you mentioned Harmony Gold.
But damn I hate those guys.
Do we know when they are turning the editor on? Looking forward to some top mods.
You finaly got one :D
My Atlas D runs with
2x srm6 art Iv tier 4
Ac20 BF tier 4 or AC20 tier 5
4x MP tier 4
624 armor
120 rounds AC
900 rounds SRM
Full with DH
90+ dmg 2.6 cooling
How will you jagen the 'Mechs now without your Jägermech?
Put SRMs on the Orion and two shot mechs. Its an insane brawler. AI pilots will lose arms a lot though.
the Atlas is so Tall it knees were bent to fit the mechbay
King crab need to put down its claws, so cute
Some Atlas also bend the knees because the pilot is too heavy..
You put a lot of HS in your mechs but it seems I really do not overheat once I get around 1.7 - 1.8. Am I missing something?
When it comes mech type availability and purchasing does the game give better mech choices for buying on specific named worlds or is just based on industrial world type.. for instance would you have a higher chance of finding stalker and awesome variants on planet Irian since they are both made by Irian Battlemechs Unlimited?
Nope; mech types rely mostly on nation.
Weyland-Yutani
Building better 'Mechs
oh, wait.......
