Good afternoon dear Sir, i have been watching your YT videos for several years now, and it appeared that a good friend of mine is now the owner of a Porsche 911 Targa from 1972 out of nowere, and i was curious if i could find something about the history of that car.
Unfortunatly i could find out a way to check into the VinWiky data app from my PC over here in Germany.
Maybe you or one of your Mods can help me out to find a solution, or an alternative, trustable app.
      Big thanks in advance!

I'm sensing a business opportunity Ed-you, Tyler, and Tavarish could start a transportation company for the next season of Car Trek. I imagine the truck and insurance, and driver would cost about the same as a mid-mileage Gallardo. Even less if you did the driving yourselves, and you would meet collectors, see some exceptional cars, and show the industry how it ought to be done.

My transporter for my Viper had his truck and trailer stolen in Denver and didn’t tell me for 2 days. My Viper was found abandoned in an apartment parking lot a day later with an additional 80 miles on the clock. It was a nightmare getting the transporter’s insurance to cover damages but luckily it all worked out in the end. Transport is a certified nightmare.

As someone in the trucker Industry I'll tell you how the system works... you call ur broker say u wanna get something somewhere in a certain timeframe... broker says okay I know a guy but he doesnt... he puts a load on something called a job board where basically the lowest bidder wins the job. Pretty sure brokers skim about 30% of the total job so your really getting bottom of the barrel... your best bet for consistent transport is find a great guy to work specifically for you and your circle of people who need high dollar cars moved and as long as you got work for him or pay him enough to stay on call you'll never have an issue

I was a sales manager at a Ford dealership in 2004 when the GT came out. We were a large auto group with 6 Ford dealers. I was tasked with selling out 7 allocations. I did it on eBay with a bid of MSRP plus the bid and you got to spec the car. I was in Maryland and the second person to win an auction was in California. He ordered the car in ingot silver with zero options. I got a bit scared of this order and talked him into paying for the car in full before I placed the order. His bid was $110,000 over MSRP and he paid for it 6 months before the car arrived. When the car shows up we do the pre delivery inspection and he tells me he has a transport company coming to pick it up. On the day for pick up a flat bed tow truck shows up. I'm thinking this truck was going to take it to a yard to put it in an enclosed truck to go to California. Nope, he had hired this guy to drive his flatbed across the country because it was $400 less than he'd been quoted for enclosed transport. I called him to ask if he was crazy. I told him this car isn't going to make it without damage if it makes it at all! Anyway I talked him out of that plan and it arrived in California safe and sound. I saw it advertised on DuPont Registry in 2008 for $105,000. I often wonder what happened to that car.

As an ordinary consumer I’ve shipped a half dozen cars for myself and family members over the years. It is such a strange system with hundreds of brokers (many seem sketchy) and thousands of independent truckers (highly variable quality) - a system in only the loosest application of the term. Every time I ship the car, I felt I was rolling the dice. I was lucky never to have a serious problem but there were some weird glitches. One time I shipped the car to my daughter and when she went to pick it up in the parking lot of an abandoned K-Mart she found truck but the trucker was nowhere to be seen. After a half hour of panicked phone calls to me, the trucker showed up driving her brand new car. He said he needed it to get breakfast.

To be fair though, they have had different types of electronic tracking devices that they could have put in the car regardless but I don't know if they would have been able to be active on cellular service or not. At the very least, they could have put a phone in the car that was cheap and put a SIM card in the phone with active service and just tracked it that way. That would have been an easy thing to do even back 10 or 15 years ago and it would have cost them maybe a couple hundred dollars or even less at most and would have been more than worth it.

Edison Motors had a similar incident with their inverters for their new electric semi. They had it shipped hotshotted (no other deliveries or stops) across Canada. The company hired sold the job off to another company who didn’t know it was a hotshot and so had other loads he was delivering and his truck broke down. Eventually Edison did get the shipment 2 weeks late and it almost cost the company millions because if the trade show it was supposed to be at. Edison paid the person who shipped the parts but refused to pay the original shipping company that sold the job the extra they were contracted for. They have a whole UA-cam video on it.

He said he was getting $500.00 for the Bently. From Riverside, CA to Chicago. In an open rack truck exposed to the elements in November...with the driver's side window on the Bently partially down as his hydraulics weren't working. And he crawled out the window without taking his shoes off - tracking the dirty parking lot onto the beautiful saddle tan leather. He asked me if i had touch up paint for the pearl cream Bently after he tagged it with the SL 550. $10,000 repair to save $1,000 in transport.

I had a situation a few months ago with my first time ever having a vehicle shipped and it was not a pleasant experience. I bought 2 1980's F-150s from a great guy in PA and had them shipped to NY. They did arrive in a couple of days but not without damage. The shipping company subcontracts with transporters and this particular transporter had no clue at all. First problem was the guy didn't know how to get one of the trucks out of park and was yanking on the 4WD shifter so hard that he ripped the knob off the shifter and bent the linkage making the truck undrivable. The transfer case wouldn't engage and would just grind. Next the other truck was hit on the passenger side breaking the mirror and denting the door. The transporter basically said look at the trucks, they're junk anyway. Granted the trucks were not in great shape but they were far from junk and that doesn't give them the right to damage them anymore than they were. In the end they took $50 off the cost of shipping and now I am extremely reluctant to ever have a vehicle shipped. Now if I want to buy a vehicle and can't personally get it then I won't buy it.

This is so real. The key here is when the buyer put a Rush on getting car this is when it went sideways. Im sure if he did not pull that " I want it now" typical of that kind of buyer and that put the big shipper like Reliable Intercity out as they often take a few weeks. Someone else made a good point at this level of car deals I would have several high ends Dually trucks and double car trailer and just charge the client an super high White Glove Fee. Yes Sir I will have the 918 to you by Friday $25g fee. If not it will be whenever one of the Big guys can make it. No brokers

There are well-known car transport companies out there that he could have called, directly. But they'd probably have cost more that the initial quote from the broker, but then they wouldn't have ended up with a car missing for two days and then having to spend $1500 out of pocket to have it detailed again

I Transported a car from Dallas to Orlando it was pretty easy. The dealer dealt with a broker. This was like 4 years ago Sundown logistics or auto logistics. Last Year I Called them to move an Audi R8 enclosed and they told me my best bet was Reliable. The Orange trucks. It was more expensive, but the broker explained to me theres allot of fraud in the enclosed transport. So use a company like Reliable. I ended up using Reliable car came in one piece

I always assumed the really high end dealers had an in house staff of 4 drivers to deliver these cars among doing other task. Any issue would be instantly updated and you would know within a few minutes when the car would arrive. Once they go across the country that team could possibly grab a car on the way back. Once again you have these 4 people doing other things when not transporting so your getting your monies worth there.

A few. I sold my CL65 and buyer sent an open trailer. i warned him but he said it was good. Car showed up with a broken windshield that he wanted me to pay for. No. I also bought an Audi S8 that never arrived. Shipper kept me updated and when they said they pulled into my town they then went dark. Turns out the dealer was a scam and whole sale was a scam. 19 Russians were arrested over that one and all did 2-5 years in prison before being sent back to Russia. The last person gets paroled this year. Still hurts losing that $50,000

The driver then tried to get the job by saying to me " What do you care, you will never see the car again". Sorry pall, leave the property now before I call the police was my instant reply. I then reamed the broker. If I could remember the name I would publish, but this was 20 years ago.

Yes. Co. got my car, Father founder went on vacation, son overspent on new trucks, missed payroll, drivers returned trucks to hillbilly country HQ with loads of 9 cars each, and the company was going under hard. Called broker and was told that it was very bad situation, sorry can't help you. Hired another company to rush out and snag my car and take their time to get it to me. Visited the broker in Las Vegas when my employer sent me there to a convention. Emptied a super-soaker full of concentrated deer urine into their lobby and its ceiling tiles and fled into a waiting taxi that was promised $400 if they got me out of there. Had to explain what I was doing so that they became convinced that I wasn't doing a stick-up. When the taxi driver sniffed what was in the jug on the squirt gun, he relaxed and agreed to help. I hate brokers. No, I'm not into telling the story on your fabulous channel. Some of those broker's office people are still alive most likely, even though it was 1994. That's something that you just don't forget if it happens to you.

Folks. STOP CALLING BROKERS. There are several auto transport companies that are extremely experienced and you can talk to the people that are actually having hands on your vehicle. We don’t bs around about it. If everything’s good we’ll tell you. If not we’ll call you first and tell you. A broker never even sees your car and gives it to the lowest cost truck they can find. Just a few excellent enclosed carriers,,Pilot Transport. Reliable Carriers. Mccollisters. If you can’t talk directly to the person that is going to pick up your vehicle BEFORE it’s picked up don’t use them. Yes we cost more. You get the service you pay for. One way to cover yourself is to ask the company for their insurance credentials. If they’re legit they’ll send no problem. Most of these small carriers that brokers use don’t have enough insurance to cover your vehicle if there is an issue. We carry 10 million coverage.

He’s not wrong tho, I see it so often where a client buys a super nice car just to allow some rando transport it because it was a few hundred cheaper than the reputable guy.
