Look, I don't care if you change the badges, respray it, swap out the wheels, give it a higher exhaust note - an SLR can never be an SL55, and that's a hill I will die on.
@9:55 Long time viewer, since the first couple of months of the channel, who also happens to be trans. I'll be honest. That hurt. I was worried as soon as I realised where that story was going, but I was with you for most of that story, even the "identifies as an SLR" joke, I thought "that could be taken badly, but I'm going to be magnanimous and keep an open mind here, it's not like I've never been accidentally insensitive before either", I genuinely chuckled at the story, and I was considering sending it to a few friends, until that ending line. That hurt. If someone is a trans woman, that doesn't mean they are "a man identifying as a woman". I really don't even care if someone says "woman who used to be a man" or "used to present like a man". But "man who identifies as a woman" is just hurtful. There's a great trans car community out there who would love to be made to feel welcome.
I didn't do this because it's easy or fun, I did it to be authentic to myself. I know I'm a nobody in the car world, just a trans person who likes cars, but there is a trans car community, and it's an amazing place that has some incredible creativity and passion. The story could have been *appreciated* by the community, but that joke ruins it. There's a lot difference between the two of us, but I see you talk about the cannonball community - I don't even know how much of an overlap there is exactly, but I know it's there. Also sad that probably none of my stories are channel-worthy but aspiring to one day have one that is, and to share it, if I had a space to... I know you occasionally talk about religion, and I'm not religious so it would be hypocritical to quote the bible at you, but if you link the two, does that not mean love for everyone with a shared passion for cars? Also sad that probably none of my stories are channel-worthy but aspiring to one day have one that is, and to share it, if I had a space to.
Point taken and appreciated. Apologies that it came off as insensitive. Obviously the delicate nature of the issue was the main reason I passed on the car, sounds like it was the right decision.
@@VINwiki Appreciate it. Genuinely enjoyed the story (including the gear selector joke - that's how to do humour around a community in a more respectful way), and learning is how we grow, I've built friendships with people I wouldn't have expected over cars too.

I wonder who Hoovie's lost friend is... 🤔
