This was probably one of the smartest moves Michael did in his career as having EVH do the solo made this album cool with a entirely new group of fans I’m a white guy that graduated high school inthe early 80s and a big group of other White guys I hung out with who were basically Rock and Rollers were really into this album because of that solo being put in there it was funny because it was definitely all reckonized as Eddie Van Halen way before it was publicized on radio stations I remember car pooling to college with a freind of mine who had long hair and played lead guitar in a local band and he and I sat in the parking lot a few moments late because the song had just came on the radio as we pulled into the campus parking area

I also graduated high school in the early 1980's, growing up in the Los Angeles area. At that time, there were two major "urban contemporary" radio stations in LA, KJLH and KACE. Whenever they played "Beat it", they played a version that cut out Eddie's solo. I guess they didn't want a white rocker getting any airtime on their station.

EVH was a revolutionary guitarist. He was the best during his time, but there are many young guitarists today who have massively surpassed him in skill. That being said, we wouldn't have those modern incredible guitarists without Eddie's influence, so he will always remain a legend for that.
