Jennifer Batten paved the way for girls playing guitar today. She's the First Lady of Rock guitar, a Legend. She's beyond amazing - incredible musician - innovative, original, and waaaay underrated
As a female guitar player I must say she really did us dirty. How are we supposed to compete with that????
@@AA-kc5np hi I’m learning to play guitar do you have any tips ?? It’s ok if you don’t !
I asked her how she got so good. She replied. I sat in my bedroom for a long time then I got a life.
First lady of rock guitar?? Sister rosetta and lita ford doesn't like that...
- Hey, grandma. Can you teach me how to play a song?
- Yes, honey. Come here.
Best female guitarist of all times 🤘
can’t you just say she’s the best guitarist. u don’t have to say she’s a female we can see it
@@arielnightmare8997 It's not the same thing unless she is actually better than all the male guitarists out there.
@@arielnightmare8997 you don’t have to get offended at everything lol. They meant she’s the best female guitarist as in not the best guitarist in the world but out of the females she is the best. And before you call me sexist or mysoginistic I’m female lmao
Michael Jackson was called "King of Pop" but damn! He really rocked and rolled way better than many modern "metal bands".
HAHA best comment, i feel sorry for the metal bands, but unfortunaly it is true. Michael knew the importance of good riffs/beats or whatever you wanna call it. Metalbands today is all djent or lame single string rhytms with strange small bends to create "interest" cause they suck
@@AE-hx7wy At least Prince didn't need featurings for his instrumentals 😂
I don't know what you call Metal and/or Rock, there's so many sub genres...
MJ rocker 🤣
@@AE-hx7wy Bubi's best Songs were recorded by the best Rock and Metal Musicians of the World, who adapted their Music to suit him. please don't forget that. For a lot of Money. Otherwise none of these would have played for Bubi
Still awesome Jennifer Batten and playing in a small house band for fun! After all these big stadiums and arenas after, a truly amazing artist and wonderful human being.
her love of ripping up on guitar is a joy to see...and she's a warm & sharing person-so yes, i 'm kinda fond of JB!
How the hell did she play with those contraptions on her head? She lucky she didn’t tip over. Just shows what an incredible player she is.
I was at a clinic back when she was touring with MJ, and we asked her about the outfits. She said that it was part of the deal she had, that the tour producer and director could do whatever they wanted to modify her appearance on stage. She gave them an open ticket. That included peroxide hair and all the accessories. I have a picture with her of that night. One of my precious souvenirs.
If you look, they aren't attached to her head. There is a back brace with a riser that is supporting them.
Did you see that she kept playing with that grin to emphasize her red lips? lol... not only had she play guitar well, but she had to have the looks!
It was the compromise as she couldn't dance and play (her comment was "I can barely chew gum and walk at the same time let alone dance and play), so she was given an exotic costume instead.
Incredible guitarist, great cover of the master EVH. Rest in peace Eddie, rock guitar legend.
This is more than a cover. She added quite a bit to it, and a level of difficulty. They're both masters.
I believe that 85% of the people commenting here don't have a clue who Jennifer Batten is, there's so much crap in the comments.
I will note that I do not, in fact, know who Jennifer Batten is. I will, however, do a quick google search.
As a San Diego musician she was well known on the scene long before her MJ days. She started with jazz and can shred to Coltrain's "Giant Steps." I took a photo with her, Jeff Beck, and my ex gf Jennifer Bratton who I dated in the late 90's...three JB's!
...I can assure you I do ....I've much respect for her ....so does Jeff Beck...
Jennifer is one of the most talented guitarists in the world..this solo is very very hard
There's a reason Michael kept her as a part of his touring band for about 10 years. Her exotic style, her look, she just kicked all the ass there was to kick. She's so awesome!
Could not have said it better myself. Their onstage chemistry was INSANE. True friendship that lasted a lifetime.
Jennifer is both teacher and player extraordinaire, and has been for decades. Lucky kids get to have a genuine guitar superstar play with them!
the queen of the electric guitar !!!!!
Incredible example of what Eddie Van Halen brought to the solo. Only the real masters can emulate what he created
@@borischerni From what the stories say, he improvised it kind of on the fly. Like they asked him if he would track something and he was like "sure, what they heck" and blasted out what we know today.
@@cmdrdredd that's how most guitar rifts are created. On the fly. Look at Ted Nugent's 7 minute long Stranglehold solo track. Ted said the best version of it is the first recording, which he, the bassist from Amboy Dukes, and Derek St Holmes did at random, and is also the version on the album.
JB was and still is one of the GREATS!!!!.
Every time I see/hear someone do a thing this well, I try to imagine how much time they’ve given to it. Legend!
My fav part/note of that fantastic solo has always been thevery last note, landing down, right into the chorus, It''s magnificent. This lady is magnificent. Wonderful stuff.
just powerful magic from her fingers & she looks great in 3 ft tall horns!!! heh hee!
I grew up in that era. Nothing can beat it.
Wonderful virtuosity, great stage presence and perfectly saucy; from both of 'em.
I remember when she started and was on the cover of the American guitar magazines. She used to tie a sock round the nut to mute her tapping. Great talent and not seen enough. I might still have that magazine somewhere.
Jammin with the young band...WOW! hOW FREAKIN COOL!
Djarra haha she’s my teacher, she’s amazing dude no joke I couldn’t imagine having anyone else teach me
Her solo is JOY!!! I’ve GOT to see her doing this live! All respect for the one and only 🎸
She had been keeping our beloved Michael Jackson's legacy alive. Love her to the very end. ❤❤❤❤❤
Jennifer Batten still rocks! She is always great! A serious musician.
Jennifer Batten, maravilhosa e virtuosa para todo sempre... Gratidão por sua música.
The BEST 10 guitar solos in history
VERY underrated...the little adjustments to phrasing on the second solo are awesome!!
Still one of my favorite guitarists
EVER!!!!
Still got it, girl 😎
👍👏🙌🎸
The extended solo in the last version is a treat.
MJ and Jennifer's occasional stage interaction was so exciting - nobody rocked that laser gun like you, Jennifer! I'm forever in love
Poderoso,.........🦺🦺🦺🦺🦺🦺🦺🦺🦺🥳🥳🥳🥰
OMG I love this! forever in time!!!!!! thank you so so much
I cannot stop watching it over and over unreal !!!
She been there with Michael since 1987
Live solo gave me goosebumps 🔥
I saw along side Jeff Beck at the HoB in New Orleans. He visibly appreciated her talent as much as me, it was obvious.🎭
I miss MJ so much 😢
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ Demoledora espectacular Jenn!!
underrated guitarist. she could do even much better with a great band. no chance.. yet ;)
She was with a great band at least for the HIStory Tour..
David Williams - great funk guitarist
Brad Buxer - great keyboardist
Isaiah Sanders - great keyboardist
Jonathan Moffett - amazing drummer
Freddie Washington - amazing bassist
You obviously don't know what you're talking about, Michael Jackson's band was incredible.
@@mdnblues I'm aware Jackson's band is a bounch of great musicians.. I meant if she only could have a band like say.. Van Halen did.. her own band.. of course being Michael Jackson "special guest" is not that bad....... but I think she deserve more
Wow lady you totally blew my brains out .... I love your style , I love people that are individuals and have unique looks like Johnny Winter , amazing playing you rock !!
Where is she now? I just wanna say THANK YOU to her.. Im fans of MJ since 80's. Now im 58 yrs old. And im lost from MJ. His songs still alive. To MJ we proud of you bro. Love from me to MJ.. 🇲🇾❤️
Awesome. Cool to see the drummer doing vocals too.
Jennifer batten could play that solo in her sleep. She (along with Mike Batio and Steve Lynch) took tapping to the next level and beyond in the mid/late 1980s.
ICONIC !
she was one of my teachers when I was at G.I.T. in 86-87 before she got the Jackson gig. Great player & teacher in addition to being a very nice & humble person (she also toured & recorded with Jeff Beck after the Jackson gigs) 🤘
Que honra tocar para el mejor MJ. Que Talento!
What an amazing female guitarist!!! she is so great and has such an awesome style.
jennifer batten style was always my favorite.
She 've hitted all the harminics perfectly
This brought me to tears.
Não tem como não gosta desse solo ela toca muito caraca
mfw most people in the comment section doesnt know jennifer batten.
@UltimateGod55 then why would he state that not a lot of people know who she is?
Seems so.... i remember when a bandmate says while watching MTV: "What is that ? A women ??? Ah..... " ( in 🇩🇪 we say "na ja, mal sehen..." ) later he says: "😯"
Mega star...... deixou seu legado👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Fantastic! 💚
Woooh!!!!!!🙌
She feels the music, awesome.
I saw her at the Raleigh Music Academy a few years ago and didn't know she played the solo in this video. Awesome.
I saw her play with Jeff Beck on the Who Else and You Had it Coming tour.
She did all the keyboard parts on her guitar and really was a great fit with Beck. They were trading grins and Beck let her have some limelight too.
I got to meet her at the music store where I taught. Super friendly...signed a 1980's guitar player magazine I had with her on the cover. I gave her a pic of her and Jeff from the 2nd concert I saw of them.
Talked about playing with him and when she met Jimmy Page...It was a great.
Perfeito!!!
Most underrated guitarist in world history
She still amazing no matter what age🫡🫡
Y en varios tonos ! Una locura, el mejor sonido de guitarra 🎸
Eddie Van Halen is awesome. I know it's great to be able to play it passably, but how many guitarists could come up with it from scratch. Eddie rocks!
Dave gives a different account of how Eddie comes up with solos. Brilliant for sure but not so on the fly. Everyone's got their way though.
That's what separates him from so many technical shredders . It's one thing to be able to play it .. but to compose it something different all together .
That's something actually badass I have witnessed in my life
I had the pleasure of seeing her doing a guitar seminar at Wembley Conference Centre!
She's enormously underated and a class act generally!
Pete Woodroffe Music UK
Oh man She is BAD ASSS, YESSSS Oh I Love this!!!
perfect
AWESOME , she still got it , naild it . terrific !
Não é brincadeira o que essa mulher toca. Pqpariu
If she was my grandmother I would rock out with her
Jennifer Batten, la diosa de la guitarra ❤️🎸
This made my day!
tell ya what. She actually plays the famous VH major minor pentatonic stretch part by tapping the highest note instead of holding the pattern. But she plays the notes exactly right to my ears. Done very well!
Hey you little people this is JENNIFER BATTEN!!! 👑
I saw Naternet Buckethead's interview on her she's so awesome
I’m speechless! Jennifer I sure did enjoy that video.
Fabulous work
One of the few times Michael was eclipsed. This solo IS the song Beat It. EVH forever!
The veteran still remembers her moves! Nice job Ma'am!!!
Incredible player!!! Still got it.
Last part is so crazy ! i listened it 20 times
Omg... I can't believe I prefer the second version... she is sooo talented
Just wow
Excellent!! ❤💖💕👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍🏾👏
Always loved Jennifer Batten.
YES WOW
The story about her teaching Eddie how to play it again is great.
Grande Jennifer Batten sou muito Fã 😍
She was Awesome when I first seen her with Jeff Beck, Wow what a show.
A GODDESS
Wow that tree shit was awesome!
Beat it 기타 솔로중 제일 멋있게 연주한 연주자~! 사랑합니다 ❤️❤️
Just saw her last night in Glasgow with Navi!
She is AWESOME!! 🎸
WOW she's the best ever
The drummer singer at the end lol
A humble soul playing one of rock's most difficult solos. Q'apla!
Fantastic 🤟🏽🎸🔥
Damn that was impressive. Particularly how even in her 60's, Batten's playing is still flawless. Who cares if Eddie Van Halen came up with the solo originally?
Christopher Hargreaves anybody who can do what a great does deserves accolades 💯💯
Who cares Eddie van halen came up with it??? Wtf do you mean who cares? Its eddie fucking van halen, Jennifer did a great solo, but any aspiring lead guitarist or historian will tell you Eddie Van Halen was and is no joke in his skill and work ethic when it comes to guitar and even keyboard work, Its a great solo, but it will never be as good as Eddie's and I think even Jennifer would acknowledge and respect that for one of the greatest guitarists of all time. If your playing an eddie van halen solo, you better show some respect and realize who's work your playing, this isnt some mediocre guitarist from a hair rock or grunge band, Its Eddie Van Halen, if that's how you think, than you truly havent listened too his work
@@BS-vi8si fuck off you little piece of shit. Couldn't care less about your uneducated opinion.
Wow. I thought they dubbed in Eddie Van Halen and that she was air guitaring to it, until I saw that last clip. She really can play.
Jeff Green is gay
Jeff imho she's the best female guitar player that ever existed and that's not even one of the best solos of her check out her stuff, worth to listen.
Saw Jennifer Batten at the Rock Hall tribute to Les Paul in Cleveland in 2008. She came out alone and used one guitar and looper to build all 8 tracks for Les' song Lover. No pre-recorded stuff. It was nuts.
Lover was the first professional song Les recorded using multi-tracking. Recorded in Les' garage in 1948, it was done on acetate. No tape back then. Literally every recording using multi-tracks of any kind can trace the tech back to Les and that first recording.
Brett how I envy you mate..!
Yeah, a female with amazing guitar skills...Guess you never expected that in your universe.
