The question has been asked by several people, so today I had my bike remapped with the programme for the US spec slip on's. The Bike ran fine with stock map, but I have to say that it is BETTER with the new map! Its lost just a slight touch of its a bit deep burble, which is more noticeable on overrun, however, throttle response seems 'snappier' the bike has a bit more urgency and as it warmed up it sounded more and more fantastic. So if you swap to these pipes, you can leave it be, it won't be a problem, but I can definitely recommend the remap. It's a quick and simple job, so if the dealer tries to charge too much for labour......go to another dealer.
The dealer told me that there is no different map for these silencers. The V&H map is for the sports complete system ( that's the high level one ), that's not to say it wouldn't make some difference with the silencers only.
Just and fyi for anyone with the same issue I just had. I got these mufflers in black and it was a major pain to get the baffles out. I didn't think they were removable at first. Had to pry them loose with a screw driver.... not cool when they are almost $700! Be very careful and don't scratch the paint! Had to do a little touch up. But they sound sooooo nice!
Thanks Eric, it was just odd that the bracket didn't go the the same hole as the stock pipe. I guess there must be a reason. I'll take another look at it
Hey Tony great video and very explanatory!. I got my speed twin 900 and I was thinking about getting the slash cut out pipes from British customs.. any thoughts on that ?? I’ve heard that it can damage your engine and performance of the bike in the long term but not too sure. Thank toy very much
Hey Tony, great video, thank you! Followed this to put the black V&H on my Street Cup. The only thing I did differently was flip the jubilee clips round so the screw head was on top, because I thought that looked a lot neater than the threaded part of the screw being visible. I didn’t seem to have that sleeve for the left side exhaust so no drilling out required (could be a small difference between the Twin and the Cup?) I also found getting the baffles out a ****ing nightmare, but that’s another story!! Haha. Masking tape round the inside edge stopped me from scratching the second exhaust anyway :) Thanks again!!
Hi Tony, after remove the baffle. if i would like to put it back on. will the circle clip still able to hold it securely? coz now the circle clip is without the welded little tab. Thanks
Hi Tony just had my Street cup delivered with US spec V&H mufflers. I noticed that the right can was loose and had movement left to right. My dealer said that some of the cans on various Bonnie's can be a bit loose. I'm not convinced! Any issues tightening the fixings by hand and do I need a torque wrench to do the job properly?
Hi, can you tell me please, if the off road SLIP-ONS model for the Thruxton R can have the dB killers removed like the Speed Twin SLIP-ONS US homolgation? I know the EU homolgation for both bikes have the same part nº, but the off road model for the Thruxton and the US Spec for the Speed Twin have different part nºs Cheers
Do the ends of the V&H pipes stick out as much as the original pipes? I dropped my bike recently, and the engine guard didn't protect the end of the pipe from getting scratched.
@@mancavemoto sorry for my poor explaination. Looking from the back of the bike, are the V&H tips closer to the bike's body than the original? The original fray out quite a bit and the ends are not protected by the engine guard when dropped.
Hi Tony. I had the same problem with my Malaysian model Triumph street Twin with the US V&H where the sleeve didn’t fit in the hole. So I just omitted the sleeve rather than have to drill the hole. Will this be a problem?
Thanks for the video. Wondering if anyone has any thoughts. My Street Twin has been having issues when coming to a stop, I pull the clutch in the revs will just drop to basically nothing before they suddenly catch up to idle again, sometimes it'll stall entirely. It has V&H pipes (came with the bike). I've had it at different garages and they're unable to find any problems, neither can I, but one of the mechanics suggested it may be my pipes causing the issue. As far as I know it wasn't remapped, I got it 2nd hand though so can't confirm. Is it possible the V&H (open US spec) pipes could cause something like that? Bike runs mostly fine otherwise though some days it will conk out after I start it up. Again, no issues have been found to date (fuels good, airs good, sparks are good, no engine lights or error codes, no vacuum leaks, sensors are seemingly OK).
What year is it? There was a recall for the wiring loom that was too short and was wearing through at the headstock. Some owners reported similar issues before the loom was replaced
@@mancavemoto 2016, I actually had a look at my loom and it's seen some better days. I don't have a Triumph dealer I can go to (location) but I assume you can get looms through parts suppliers?
There was a problem with early bikes. The loom was too short and it pulled tight and rubbed on the headstock when on full right lock. The loom was replaced under warranty, so it could be worth checking with dealer or Triumph themselves if it’s ever been replaced. Did you buy it new?
@@mancavemoto No 2nd hand and there's no local Triumph dealer, I'd have to travel (across the ocean). I checked my VIN on the Triumph website and I have no active recall, so I assume it was already done. It's definitely still worn though so may be worth replacing again anyway.

I've already put on a X-pipe on my street twin and I'm about to buy a US spec Vance & Hines slip on pipes. Does my bike requires ignition remapping with the US spec Vance & Hines slip on pipes add to X-pipe ? Thomas (from France - Alps)
You can get away without the remap, but I had mine done with the Triumph 'off road' map ie the one issued for the high-level scrambler pipe (which obviously has no cat) and it made an improvement
Hi Tony - how did you get the US spec version? Triumph can only get the EU version (this is for the Speed Twin). Did you get directly from US? Anyone know if it's impossible to remove baffles on EU version or is it just tricky? Cheers.
Great vid. Question regarding the non threaded sleeve, are you suppose to put it in the hole closer to the front wheel or the hole where the original exhaust bracket was? I have the pipes but have yet to install and did a visual check today on the two holes. I'm trying to avoid drilling. Thanks in advance.
Hey man ! I tried to remove the baffles but it’s impossible. I removed the « C » Clip but after the baffle looks like he is welded or glue. Any issue ? Thanks !
The top hat on the left hand side is not supposed to go through the frame mounting hole. Its purpose is to limit the compression of the rubber mount while allowing the bolt to be fully tightened and not just nipped up as you suggest. The concept is exactly the same as the other two rubber mounts.
Acer Forge Thanks I'll check it out, as mine must have been fitted wrong at the factory as I put it back in the same manner. Nevertheless the mount didn't reach to the front hole as it does on the stock silencer
The front hole is for the centre stand pivot and I'm pretty sure its not where the stock silencer mounts. I fitted the stand and the silencers at the same time.
Hi there! I'm trying to remove the baffles but looks like there is a tab that is spot welded on the "C" Clip that holds the baffle in place. Any advise on how to remove it ? Did you had that tab on yours (US Specs Vance & Hines) ?

Sorry, at 10 minutes and 30 seconds there was (i think) a drop of oil that fell to the ground ,
not being rude mate ,see you later, careful on the road
Ah right, no problem, no offence taken. Deffo not oil, probably just some moisture from the new exhaust joint. Good spot though, eagle eyes
sweeettt!
Do these fit a Rocket?
I would very much doubt it
could you tell me the size of the c clip that holds the baffles in? have this exhaust on my T120. Came with baffles removed, I have the baffles to no C Clips to keep in place.
Ah sorry, I don't have the bike any more so I can't measure them for you!
