I first heard Maggot Brain in this version and it is still my favorite version of the song. I Don't know why, but I find it a lot more emotional then the studio version. I really hope one day it will return to Spotify.
I'm with you and I've seen Maggot Brain played live since 1975. I've see Eddie play it several times. Bit there is something very special about this version. Michael Hampton put his foot into it!
I've asked myself the same question . I believe it's the way he plays the guitar with in the measures of the song. The solo is so tight. If you count the beats as the song plays, you'll understand. I can't find any other version that sounds like this. Not even the original performance by Eddie Hazel. Imo.
One of the best rock songs ever made, although you couldn't find it on any rock stations back in the day, but the people who saw them live and followed them knew the deal. That's why they are still loved and admired today. Thanks for posting!
I have to stop myself from listening to this I revisit it annually its is the most powerful and emotional guitar solo I've ever heard I used to sneak and listen to this when I was about 8 years old 😂on a 45 in my grandparents basement now im blasting it wherever this is 🔥
I was maybe 12yrs old me and my boy at Cobo Hall in Detroit when i first heard this live in concert.. Blew me away then , and blows me away now and I'm 58yrs old now.... WOW!! Shit! Listen to the brother on the bass. Masterpeice ! And go easy
Watching Michael Hampton emerge from a giant skull and perform this masterpiece at the St. Louis Checkerdome was one of the top five greatest experiences of my life.
@@jeffreyclarkson6432 , The way I figured it, they probably did the same show in every city. I wish I would have had a way to record it for myself. Bootsy was there, too. Michael Hampton most underrated guitar player of All Time. He was only a teenager when he played this. The emotions, the skill and fire is outrageously awesome

I'm in agreeance with a lot of people. For me this is the best version of this. The original was grewt and ethereal. However it didn't have the bass and drums in the pocket and Bernie Worrel on keys.

You're probably right
Me n u both bother
This and the 1979 "Butterfly" version in DC are my favorites... both capture something extra that the studio version doesn't

The BEST version of Maggot Brain 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
It is..Just a true experience to listen to..!🇬🇧👍
Love it !!!👍❤️😎
I just love the interplay between the bass and lead guitar......it's almost Spiritual!!!!
One of the BEST SOLO’S EVER NOTE-FOR-NOTE! 💯

As a teenager I heard this one before the original. Overtime I learned to appreciate them both! This solo was and still is EPIC!!!
I totally agree..The whole solo sweeps you along with it on a beautiful journey..

Too Rock for Black Radio, Too Funky For White Radio. Those of us who knew, knew.
I've listened to so many versions but IMO this is the definitive recording
Naw, Eddie's.
There one with drums hitting way harder. It’s on IG but idk where on UA-cam
1979 butterfly version in DC is right there with this
My all-time favorite rendition of this song.
This is THE ONE right`chea.
No Question.
I want this played at my funeral. That’s how much I love this version
Good Idea!! I'm going to steal it😊

I saw it in Atlanta at the Fox Theater. The acoustic in there is perfect, it was awesome
Best song ever! ❤
Bass player and drummer staying in the pocket supporting the lead guitar is what makes this solo very powerful
Rodney "Skeet Curtis" on bass and Tyrone Lampkin on drums.
My ears are still ringing from the loud speakers i once had. A constant reminder to the Funk. Ring on baby!
One of the greatest meshing of guitars ever produced and the reason I’ve been plucking riffing licking mine ever since I first heard this track!!!!
I get chills with this version
