Damn. Eric doesn’t just play. He truly feels every note. So much soul in that man. Bless him
YES!!
Mr. Hazel is beaming with approval from Guitar Heaven🎶👌🙏
I appreciate the dude in blue keeping the rhythm going and just enjoying every second of it.
hell yeah, that was me...was mesmerizing standing beside that
@@samrobinson3668 that's one of those lifetime memories right there, my man.
Rhythm IS lead-Keif
When you've heard a song a million times and suddenly a better version pops on your auto-playlist and makes you stop the car so you can close eyes and enjoy every fredding note. Blown away
Close your eyes and keep driving 😂 🤘
Yes. 🙌🏼
Don't close your eyes while you drive 😃. But, I have to say, this, next to the original, is my favourite version of the song.
Every song he covered will blow you away. He makes it like it was his. Which how it supposed to be and not just copying note per note.
Check his rare version of Dee by Randy Rhoads at Paul Gilbert's Guitar Escape ua-cam.com/video/4Juj8OKU_Hc/v-deo.html its at 34:28 I don't how he makes chords, rhythm, lead, bass all in one
I’ve been jamming the George Clinton, P-Funk All Stars, Live From Metropolis Studios, version lately. It’s a playlist of songs Clinton put together. Really beautiful version.
Eric is a legend. The organist was amazing too.
Just look at his face as he reels off those notes. Nobody gives more of himself than Eric. Fantastic!
Without A Doubt!!
Oh man am I glad I went looking for alternate versions of this...Eric gales doing maggot brain...oh my Lord... awesome 🤘😜🎸🎶☮️❤️
Same here. I was surfing, what do you know!!! My dude Eric is delivering his amazing rendition!
Wow. This is THE song that made me really love Funkadelic. But having hearing Eric do it is such an amazing gift to my ears. I have no words except "wow."
This feels like an Eric Gales deep cut. Some of the smoothest playing I've ever heard from him. The range is unique with that man. The band is creating the perfect landscape as well. Beautiful stuff

***LEGIT***
Funkadelic and Eddie Hazel would be proud!
they sure would, now wouldn`t they?
Eric Gales Is Simply One Of GREATEST guitarist/musicians On the planet!!!👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾👋🏾
I hate to even admit how many decades ago I first heard what I considered to be the greatest guitar instrumental ever conceived and now I'm old and the internet is allowing me to hear some of the most outstanding covers which I didn't even consider could be played. The whole band is very talented.
Words can't express how Badass! Eric Gales is! Damn!
indeed, i love how he just does whatever with it, so many people just copy haze's opening line, gales really makes it his own, one of those licks way in the beginning, i was like GODDAMN!
And the way he enters the solo portion of the song is just incredible
I respect anyone play upside down but Eric is in that virtuoso class!
This is the best solo for the next 100 years!
Saw the man when he was 16 with his brother on bass..melted me to the back wall..like the Greatest SRV RIP.. dude bleeds guitar...
Papaw sent me those video about 6 months ago. He passed decemeber 2022. I played maggot brain for him on his death bed, stopped it, and said "hey papaw, we gonna listen to maggot brain? Might as well listen to it live!"amd I scrolled through out old text to when he sent me this video. Got a maggot brain tattoo 5 days ago. Jamming and crying to this every day since. I miss my best friend. Keep on rockin✌️ come on, maggot brain... go on, maggot brain...
Hey papaw I'm back again. Love you. Keep on rocking. I know you're here with me every day. I love you. Every day- I choose to spread your love. Thank you for what you did for me. I'll NEVER stop spreading the love you shown me. ☮️
Ok 5th round of tonight!! Great job Eric. You don't know it, but every time you play this my grandpa's spirit carries on. Keep on being you!!
Back again ❤
Miss you papaw.
My mom passed away a couple of days ago and I am trying my best to learn how to play Maggot Brain for her 🤍🌼 You’ll have your papaw with you everyday behind your back , stay strong🙏
Thank you Eric for the best version of the best song ever written , Eddie would be proud
Holy shit holy shit holy shit....this is what heaven must sound like
Pedal steel solo was unexpected and fantastic!
Man I came for EG and was blessed by the organist!!
RIGHT. Do you know his name? Both he and Eric are without question channeling! Food for the soul!
truly one of the oddest ensembles youll see. Left handed bass player AND drummer. Pedal steel. plus Eric G playing upside down.
I first experienced Maggot Brain in 1976, at a live stadium show, with Eddie and Mike (Maggot and Kid) sharing the spectacle. So a mighty first impression. Since then, I’ve seen and heard (and listened for) the covers, the ‘revisits’, and the tributes. This is a tribute performance. Quite astonishing in the way it sticks to the audible emotional truth of the original, which requires a lot from any band, when the basic song structure is a simple 4 chord turnaround. My hat is well and truly off. Bravo.
Probably the best ever slide lead break I’ve ever heard. Man that dude was on 🔥 love seeing ppl in there element.
I don't play guitar, but I feel like this song is (or should be) every guitar player's unicorn; their "Eleanor". And it feels that way because every version of this song I've seen, the person playing shows that heightened spirit. You can literally see their soul on display. McCready had to be hospitalized after playing it. EG's soul is on display here. Bravo, man. Chills.
any man steps up to take on maggot brain better bring his A game. Hard to beat the emotion and thrill of the original. Having said that, Eric is killing it here. Fucking fantastic.
Pearl Jams version is ethereal
Have you ever heard Michael Weber do his rendition. Never heard of the guy and I was absolutely blown away
@@BL_Denni no I haven’t but I’ll look him up. ✊🏻
@@70zenboy do it now that it's fresh he's insane.
@@BL_Denni indeed he is. Boy can play and that’s a beautiful tone out of that very nice les Paul as well. Nice recommendation. 👍🏼
This is the absolute best performance I have seen so far of Eric Gales. He has an amazing amount of talent and usually he plays way too much jazz fusion and complex chord progressions for my taste when playing classics like this but here he just simply played the dog shit out of this song without any theatrics. You could feel every note from his soul. Outstanding!
A storming rendition of a true classic! Watching and hearing Eric Gales play this tune gives me goosebumps. You've only got to see the look on the faces of his bandmates as he does his thing. They know they're witnessing something very special.
Slide work takes me there.....👌
Damn, that's some cold shit. Old school.
Damn it eric, I teared up and felt it just like the first time I heard Eddie play it.. I'm sure he is looking down on you smiling, you did him right!
The best version this music I have heard.... I almost crying.

The whole band made it happen, wonderful tribute to the late great Eddie Hazel .
Thank you!!!
Eric is the man. everytime ive heard him play someone else's track its like a remake/re edit at its Best! ❤ blues
It is incredible and curious the mastery of a lefty playing the guitar without the inversion of strings
Dudes. Thank you.
Eric is a stellar musician but the band is also phenomenal. Kudos guys that's art:)
This was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard in my entire life. This type of music runs deep. This is a spiritual encounter.
If you like this,You’ll LOVE the original…Funkadelic-Maggot Brain ua-cam.com/video/kc8H6USGR90/v-deo.htmlsi=OTH_4m1ATGDxzpo8
Geeee...Eric's play is like a spiritual sword cutting right into your soul !
Yes, yes exactly!!!
Keyboards were really good too....... Great job by the backing band!
ErIC GALES one of the finest guitar player on the planet period!
There simply is no explanation for his level of expertise.....it defies all human knowledge. That's some next level....let me be quiet.
you hit that nail on the head Brother. Hard to believe, but it seems he gets better and better every time he hits the stage, and nobody has more enthusiasm on stage than he does. It's been some 13 years since I first met him in Memphis, my son was working on his website at the time. He has grown so much as a man in these years, even more than he has as an artist. I love him like I love my own son
This is probably the best cover of this song ever done. Well done by every one!! Freaking awesome Eric!!
Space cowboy 🤠
I know Eddie and Jimi are so proud of you! Love you, brother!
one nation under a groove baby!
Beautiful 😍 it is beautiful 😍
You only get this feel after many many long years of playing and life! Beauty of music!
...very nice🔊🔊🔊
The whole band is awesome, two thumbs up
Thank you!
Don't care how many versions, this one's special.
What a beast...
The drums are mic'd up on point!
Soulful 👍🏼👍🏼🤘🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nice touch.
WOW!!!! This is an unbeatable song to challenge. Only second place and even that’s hard to get. BUT now I’ve seen the challenger succeed at getting to that spot.
I’ve searched far and wide on the interwebs and UA-cam for great covers…. Very hard to find. Until today.
You my friend, Mr guitar player, have it. Eddie is clapping as hard as he can and yelling Bravo & Encore!
Amazing!! Just amazing! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏼
That was a blast!
Dude come on ....his playing is on a level i don't honestly think anyone has reached! Its just not right he just keeps getting more and more powerful
Tone is king!!!!!! Hum and all!!! Awesome 👌.
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ very very spicy 🥵🔥🥵 lawrd have mercy
Eric Gales, the king. Comfortably numb my foot.
Best maggot brain rendition ive heard
This is effing awesome. Interesting to see Eric Gales rocking a tele.
EGs chords are always so magical
The chords are based on the kind of chords a b3 church organ player would be playing, but in this case on guitar
@@ryanelison4539 agreed hes a church guitarist.
@Mista CDawg it’s more than that. Yes, we get that he’s playing left handed upside down and backwards, but he also has a huge list of influences which he studied closely.
@@ryanelison4539 wym by backwards are his strings rearranged?
@@turntogod4410 He doesn’t restring his guitar for traditional lefty. He basically takes a right handed, flips it to play left handed with no modifications. That’s how Albert King, Doyle Bramhall ll and Otis Rush learned to play.
Great version … extraordinary
Damn, he bringing the flame, smoke , embers and the coals.
EG has been my favorite guitarist for years. MG has been my favorite "jam" for years. I was moved to tears by everyone's performance here, not just Eric's. It's 9:30 pm on a sunday, I had to turn my stereo up so loud because reasons. I don't even care about the neighbors at this point. God, I feel like I can do anything after listening to this.
When I listen to maggot brain so do my neighbours 😆
My favorite as well for a long time now ................ turn it up, if it's too loud then you are too old, and hell I'm 66
Thank you for this.
Show a little respect and put your head phones on ' it's not all about you.
@@keithclark486 thanks for reminding me to listen to this song again!
Disco never got me ,, but funkadellic did !!! This should be transmitted into outer space 24 7 365
This guy is a slayer with that guitar 😳he must be wanted in 49 States 🥺 killer guitarist 😋👍
I come back here often!
Hazel tov!! Eric gales is always surprising me.
Not gon lie this damn near brought tears to my eyes.
Happy birthday, Eddie Hazel! What a great version!
Fingers of the keyboard guy just flows thru the keys. Amazing play.
My favorite player playing my favorite solo, Dream came true today
This is so fantastic to hear a new version that set up greatness. George Clinton didn't follow the Funkadelic rules. Advance each time each year and be free with the funk and your mind will follow. Thank Eric for this 🙏 wake up P Funk crew.wake up
Guy with pedal steel is marvelous 💜💜💜
Cant wait to see Him live 20.07.23!
Around about 7:15 I just started crying, don't know why. Just a powerful performance, I'm grateful for the pleasure of listening to this.
It hit me at 5.18
Eric Gales sure plays beautiful guitar / music ! Always puts some feel into it !
That's a proper 'maggot brain' solo!!!!!!
WOW, so many comments and so much praise, it truly chokes me up. I met him in 2008 in Memphis when my son was working on his first crude website. In the years since I will swear that he has grown more as a man than he has as a musician, and that is saying a lot considering his level of play now. May God continue to bless he and LaDonna, they are both just really fine people.
The new release will be out in the last quarter of this year, it was finished last October or November, and is produced by none other than Joe Bonamassa
Damn Eric this was amazing Mr. Hazel would be proud.
I love this song.
Fabuleux, fantastique..
Excellent
Bravo
🔊Awesome🚀
EG leaves every bit of his life on that stage every time he plays that damn guitar. Every single song, every single solo, every single show...
Eric Gales does Eddie Hazel proud.

Funkadelic ❤
Great musicianship all around. I would not have guessed that last third was pedal steel if I hadn't seen it.
Guess that, apart from James Blood Ulmer, I've never seen/heard anybody get so close the spirit of Hendrix. The guy next to him can't stop smiling. Wow, only now got to the pedal steel guy, fierce.
Well, Eddie Hazel. You know, the guy who played the original recording of the song?
This is amazing, there was a jam somewhere in Cali with Michael Hampton, Erik McFadden , Taz,, Lilly Hayden quite astounding
Astonishing !
This is fiiiire amazing and outstanding I must share on my Facebook blues / music page
What a king it is on any guitar he plays !!
