In my opinion Captain Chamber made the right decision even if he was going to potentially get court martialed that is less important than saving a family with young children

I served on midway in a war zone and we where hit. We also lost men that were killed. I was my home for 3 years. But it has a magic about her and when you see it use can see why.
I took my famliy to visit aboard her this last summer on Father's Day. My kids loved it. There was no rust that I could see. My kids particularly enjoyed seeing all the aircraft, especially the old Corsair and Wildcat fighters. My two older boys and Itook a tour of the island and they loved sitting in the captain's seat. It is an awesome museum. Ihope to go back again next summer.

By all means, if you do get a chance to visit San Diego, you really should tour the Midway. But be advised, plan to spend an entire day aboard. There is that much to see and do.
