What u think about Wooden enclosures/brands?
Most of the enclosures on the British market are wooden VivExotic or your typical ExoTerra glass.
If you’ve ever tried to buy a sheet of 1/2” thick expanded pvc you’ll see that Kages are actually really reasonably priced.
bingo!
ua-cam.com/users/shortsW6YWhTZ_BUU?feature=share
IF you can find it.
Thanks. Good Info
was just looking to build one myself with 1/2” pvc, looked up prices for materials and yeah they are deff reasonably priced lol
Thanks for the kind words Adam, we really appreciate it and are honored that you included our Evolution series in this video 😀
Since last year's build off we have launched our 2.0 version of this series which does not have the middle obstruction and is arguably now the biggest selling 4 x 2 x 2 in North America. Maybe we will see you at this year's build off and show you a totally different design that may get you thinking "outside the box" 🤔
ua-cam.com/users/shortsW6YWhTZ_BUU?feature=share
Do you ship your products to the UK or do you have a distribution partner here?
@@darrenburrows-taurus Thanks but we don't ship to the UK unfortunately. Sorry.
I use both glass and PVCs. PVC are game changing especially with high humidity reptiles. I use dragonhaus (they're also local) and they're phenomenal. I do like my glass enclosures for my LOW humidity babies 😂 great video Adam 😊
Thanks for sharing!
I also bought one from DragonHaus because it was local. We did have a few issues with the ventilation and with how some of the edges of the PVC and Acrylic doors were cut, but it ended up being alright after a little bit of adjusting. Definitely less expensive than other enclosures we have. We are going to try some from a few different companies to see what we end up liking best. Happy to have this video covering options 👍
Dragonhaus and animal plastics are a cut above all other options in my opinion, with animal plastics being the gold standard
I love my dragonhauses, I'm from PA so, not local lol
yeah, I can't wait until I upgrade my young dumerils boas from their 75 gallon, and 45 gallon tanks respectively. So I don't need to spray their cages every day. They are a year apart that's why one has a larger home.
I have a lot of ReptiZoo glass enclosures. They come in pieces and the assembly is quite easy. The screen top is super strong and has a nice black coating. The only gripe is sometimes the doors don't line up well when closing.
As for PVC, I only have Kages which I cannot say anything bad about. They are great, and even moving a completely built one to another location was easy!!
Lastly, I got my hands on the new Exoterra Frog enclosure. It is currently in process of being customized.
ohhhh I can't wait to see how it turns out!
I just got a 24 x 18 x 36 glass reptizoo enclosure....I like it...it went together pretty easily...the doors line up pretty well.
All my reptizoo enclosures ventings rust. Top and sides. I prefer zoomed on glass.
Also I have two of the frog n co enclosures. I love them. The locking mechanism, drain, door. Only thing I’m not 100% on is the top just because it limits lighting positioning.
I like Kages, but I have heard they are more geared towards keeping lizards than snakes, though I'm not sure why that would be.
Additional points for custom reptile habitats for me because they have so much customizable options. You can choose between glass or plexi doors, you can choose whatever color of pvc you want/ get a decal on the pvc, you can customize the substrate tray to be taller or even clear vs solid, they offer a customizable humidity retaining lid to cover the screen if you keep a high humidity reptile. They also have different designs, one of which does not have that center support that obstructs view.
Also customer service is awesome, and Paul is awesome 😉
Thanks Mandy 🙂 Such wise words from a co-founding member of the IHCT club 😂😂😂😂
Great info! I just ordered two more enclosures yesterday from Toad Ranch. Def a big fan of PVC for how I prefer to keep my snakes, but love that you always leave room for the fact that there's more than one way to keep reptiles ❤
always! All I can do is present opinions.
I'm thinking about getting a TR enclosure. They look great!
i just realized how much i missed this channel i watched a lot during quarantine then i had school and i was busy again but i am watching it again now and i really forgot how much i loved reptiles in general and am probably going to be watching a lot more frequently now
thanks so much for watching!
Hey Adam thanks for doing a review and glad we made the cut. It was a great review for all the caging mentioned. For our larger cages we can do single unit but my preference is to split the cages mainly for strength but also in shipping. There is a big difference in cost if you ship a 4ft pallet vs 8ft which they consider oversize. As we ship all over North America shipping cost is always of concern. It's interesting some other companies have recieving holes like you mentioned. I imagine that would be easier to do if you only have a few set sizes. While we do have set sizes we are also very well known for our level of customization and being able to do custom builds. We do also have light canopies as well for those interested. Thanks again
I just got the 2.0 snake discovery enclosure from custom reptile habitats and they come with a thin cover for the screen that has cut outs for lamps, so you don't have to buy the big top thing separately
the old ones had that too, really cool design
I just recently bought a "New Age Pet Ecoflex mojave reptile lounge" for one of my corns. I had saw them at my local pet shop and decided to try out the brand. It's a very good and sturdy material and I like how easy it is to put together, take apart and clean! The design is also really nice!
I've been looking to switch to all PVC tanks, thanks for the video with your suggestions Adam!!
The customer service on Custom Reptile Habitats is really good.
I ordered an enclosure recently from them and there was amazing communication and transparency about the order.
Thank you very much 🙂
I have two Zen Habitats pvc enclosures, and I’m very happy with them. My blue tongue skink especially loves his. He’s obsessed with his house. 😂
Animal Plastics makes really great enclosures as well, they're a smaller company and their lead times are pretty long right now, but their enclosures are so easy to assemble I was able to do it in 30 minutes with a manual screw driver lol they have predrilled holes and are routed to fit together perfectly. It took like 6-8 months to actually get, but it was soooo worth it. You can choose the door type too, I have sliding glass doors and they just pop in and out. Their 4ft terrestrial enclosures are always on sale too, so you can get em for about 225 each with shipping included
yea their lead time is insane eh
@@WickensWickedReptiles indeed! The 4 I got were definitely worth it! I hope they're able to upsize soon to cut down on leads, they have a great selection
I have a 4x2x3 arboreal Animal Plastics enclosure with sliding glass doors . I’ve used it for an 8ft carpet python and my year old rhino iguana is in it right now, now with carpet python. Yes there lead time is brutal but the options are outstanding and I put it together by myself no problem. I would definitely get AP again just need to plan ahead😊
ZenHabitats is my favorite PVC company personally. I have used them, boamaster, and reptile factory. Zen is a better bang for your buck and their customer service is superb. I had an issue with the screen lid and emailed them. They responded an hour later saying that a new lid was being shipped out that day. My only issue is that screen lid. They also make enclosure hoods. But I am not a massive fan of needing a hood to use overhead lighting.
Dude! Damn good video!!! Very informative & I greatly appreciate your blunt honesty, it's 1 of the reasons I value your opinion so much. I can also see this being the beginning of a new series of videos possibly. Example episode: Just because a product isn't right or doesn't work for your reptile, doesn't mean it's wrong for all reptiles. Explain the different types of lighting heating, why Ceramic Heat Emitters work great for a b & c but Deep Heat Projectors work better for d e & f because......
I can see it in my head but apparently I am not the best with words 🤣🤣🤣
I would love to make this a series!
This would be the best series I would watch it every time like I do all your other videos
@@WickensWickedReptiles I am down for this! Love product reviews and information. Having a lighting and heat episode would be awesome!
Custom Reptile Habitats has some of the best customer service I’ve encountered in any industry. They respond to pre-sale and post-sale questions very quickly, and when I was missing a piece from a purchase, they had it out to me very quickly. It was fantastic working with them, and the quality of the enclosure, base, and good are excellent.
Thanks Rich, we really appreciate your order and kind words :-)
My personal favorite is Toad Ranch. It has everything you like about Kages, but it looks like furniture. I have 3 of them, but they are pricey like Kages. Customer service is also fantastic.
I forgot to add something to my order, so I messaged toad ranch on Facebook. Had it added to the order within a day! I now have two of their cages
Really great video, love your honesty
👍 ☺
Glad you enjoyed!!
I have always liked to have the lights on top of my enclosures. I realize that most people don't but it's how I have always done it and plan to always continue to do it
Good choice! Actually, most enclosure have external lighting for all of the obvious reasons 🙂
I love that streaming platform! It’s all I use anymore! Curiosity with the win!
wicked!
Hey Adam, could you do an update video for how some of your animals are doing? I know you did room tours and enclosure tours on livestreams and such, but I'm wondering about the health, handleability, challenges, etc. of some animals, especially lesser-known ones. I'm specifically interested in your experience with your Chinese cave gecko(s) and any Antaresia Pythons
I remember getting one of Kages enclosures a few years ago out of his garage an hour away from me. Great guy and super helpful. The enclosure is still in amazing shape too
I have a glass exoterra 3'x2x18" been amazing. Zero issues and was on discount for 150, was woried because of delivery but it was very well packaged. Looking at an upgrade 4x2x2 from toad ranch next.
i was probably gonna go with a Kages enclosure but after seeing this and discovering Custom Reptile Habitats i think im gonna go with them. i like the screen top and having the flexibility to place multiple fixtures of different sizes/types and not be constrained to only one or 2 circular holes, and i dont like the idea of having the light fixtures inside the enclosure.
Thanks Skyler 😃Most enclosures have external lights for several very good reasons 👍
We won one of the new frog enclosures at the pet expo in toronto last year and we love it!
that's awesome
I have two of the Zen enclosures and I like them. I have a corn snake in one and a children's Py thon in another. They can be a little bit of a pain to put together but they have come out with a new design that is much easier.
I have 3 Kages enclosures and plan to get more. I ordered 2 custom dimensions, easy process and good service.
Note to remove the glass, screws need to be loosened or removed. But I have only done this once, and no issues with adjustment or reassembly.
Thanks so much for your orders and supporting our business!
Thanks for always creating entertaining videos!! Much love from South Africa 🇿🇦
thanks so much for watching
Adore the Kages enclosure I bought, with one warning- if you, like me, paint your panels and seal your paintjob for reptile safety DO NOT leave the panels in a sunny place to dry. PVC can heat up real fast in high temperature daylight, and they will warp! (They won't when used properly as a cage) My fault entirely for not considering that. I was able to eventually unwarp them, and they're a dream to assemble with those pre drilled holes. I am very disabled, weak as a noodle, and I was able to build it entirely by myself.
Your bioactives are so beautiful!!! I rewatched ur intro like 5 times!!!!! I’ve watched you for like a year and your content is awsomeeeeee keep it up 😁🤘
thanks so much!
I'm very thankful you did these reviews! I've been looking at all these PVC manufacturers, and this really helped me to think about what I will get!
hope it helps :)
@@WickensWickedReptiles It certainly does!
Dope vid, good to see actual reviews of all these brands.
I hope it helps
@@WickensWickedReptiles definitely. Enosures are the most important parts of any exotic setup. Maybe a follow up of lighting brands and heat units/thermal probes and controllers? It would certainly help newbies sort the wheat from the chaff.
i just build my own enclosures out of good plywood and hard woods, then use epoxy-resin on the inside to make sure its waterproof, but i do also make the tops open and make a separate 6in hood for all the lights makes messing with the bulbs easyer
cool!
Great video, I know that Custom Reptile Habitats recently updated their Evolution series and the center black bar is now gone.
that's great to hear!
Great video! Regarding ZooMed and ExoTerra, Hagen is the parent company for ExoTerra and ZooMed represents itself with no parent company. I do believe they compete with one another as well. I like to use both brands depending on the individual product but overall I love ‘em both.
ok so why do so many of my exo-terra enclosures have zoo med manufacturing stickers on them? Maybe they used to be together and one got bought out? I dunno, I've always wondered this? Thanks for watching :)
@@WickensWickedReptiles I personally have not seen ZooMed manufacturing stickers on ExoTerra products I’ve seen/bought but they have never been affiliated with one another from what I’ve heard and read.
I have a PVC from cornels world and love it! I've never tried any others though. This video was very informative!
Awesome! Thank you!
Team Custom Reptile Habitats here. We were introduced to them through Snake Discovery and got our first one last summer for our hognose and we are so sold by them were getting 6' enclosures now for our bigger friends!

You do such a good job with your videos. I really enjoy them!
When I search a topic you are my first pic out of the results that come up.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
I think it's great to get reviews of different types of enclosures. So much is dependent on the type of Reptile, the climate you live in, and what you can afford. Just because one enclosure is not right for one kind of animal doesn't mean it's terrible for all animals. And vice versa.
Very good video!!! I make my own cages for my snakes from aluminum and plexiglass. Much cheaper and stronger than pvc and must lighter than glass.
Sounds great!
I got a Kages enclosure for my kingsnake, and I can highly recommend them. It’s a solid, easy-to-construct enclosure that can accommodate tons of options for lighting and heating. I have run into a couple issues, however: first, that the accompanying lock mechanism ended up scratching the inside of the glass on one of the doors (likely my fault; a couple of the panels are a few mm offset from where they should be at the edges); the second, that when I began converting to a bioactive, I discovered that my clean-up crew can climb the matte interior surface and escape through the ventilation, the crack between the glass panels, and possibly the wiring outlets. I’ve taped down mesh over the ventilation and am going to install some plexiglass at the bottom lip of the enclosure to prevent any potential escapes. This isn’t a huge issue, but I would’ve liked to be doing this stuff before I filled the enclosure up with bugs, plants, dirt, and a snake.
I've found Kages to be too pricy for my broke self. they also didn't really have a Leo enclosure (36"x18"x18"), but if I get a bigger animal (and more money) I will consider them
they aren't cheap but I can say from experience they are worth every single penny!
Keep up the great work! Really liked this video! Can’t wait to see todays video!
Thank you so much!! Today's drops in a few hours!
I've been getting all my enclosures from toad ranch...I've never seen any real review on them but I love them
I use zen only for the original 4x2x2 pvc the updated version, but if I was to get some animal that was peak of my collection I would invest in a more expensive and luxurious enclosure same for a giant enclosure like an ackie 6 foot enclosure. Zen is good in my opinion for its basic 120 gal I’ve had great experience
Toad Ranch enclosures have been the best by far for me! I have both Custom Reptile Habitats and Toad Ranch enclosures. Toad Ranch's enclosures look like wood furniture and are completely PVC. Their customer service is the best I have ever had with any company ever. They always know who I am when contacting them whether through Facebook or their website. It is such a personal feel that you would get from the store down the road you have gone to for 20 years. You should try them out.
I live in australia so basically the only option we have for enclosure brands (that I've found for regular sale) is Reptile One, it is a good quality brand at least but it would be nice to have more options sometimes. Especially since the biggest size enclosure they make is 120cm x 60cm x 60cm, which means any big reptile is going to need a custom enclosure.
In the process of redoing some things and this was very helpful! Thanks 👍🤘

First of all... that calendar is amazingly awesome and I can't wait to find out more about them. Second, I absolutely admire your willingness to be open and honest with us about your experience with these different companies. I knew exactly what you were saying about the company "investigating". They treat you like a common criminal who is out to get one over on them. As if, "hehehe watch this, I'm gonna tell this company that this stuff was missing from my order and get MORE!!" I'm sorry, but hardware and a couple panels? I hope they watched their surveillance videos and saw that their employee just forgot a bag or something. Thank you so much for all of the information you give us. I love the fact that you aren't afraid to admit when you don't know things, give others credit where it's due and especially that you encourage people not to just believe everything they hear on the internet. "Do your research people!"
Thanks again, Adam!
It's infuriating when companies do that. Many customers are genuinely honest, but after working in retail for ten years myself. Let's just say there are some true sadistic people out there that ruin the whole process for anyone. One apple spoils the whole bunch?
That said, companies should only do those investigations for habititual "offenders". I can't tell you how many people buy something, beat the life out of it, DEMAND a full refund, then have the nerve to do it again and again.
@@Diaphat yeah, I understand that too. I figure that eventually karma will catch up with people like that.
I bought a PVC enclosure from Recoil Reptiles, and it is the tits. I came across them at a reptile show some years back, and told him (Alan) I needed a custom size to fit into a specific spot in my reptile room, and he said "no problem". So I called him up about a year later and he remembered our conversation at that show. He built exactly what I wanted with heat and lighting. The materials and construction are rock solid, the price was very good, and the customer service was second to none. I will buy their enclosures every time.

I got my dum's pvc through Vision Cages. They were awesome and super easy customer service was great. I definitely plan to try out some of your recommendations in the future!
Good to hear!
So happy to see this tonight! I ordered from Kages and I'm so happy to see how much you like their stuff. $600 well spent

That is awesome!
I have a 40 gallon thrive front opening enclosure. I like it. They even have a set up where you can stack them which is nice.
I have 2 Thrive enclosures and am really surprised by them since at least for me they were cheaper than the other options. The 40gal thrive I bought also has a heavy Duty vented top that I don't feel like my heat lamp is going to burn through lol
Funny this popped up, I'm in the middle of building an outdoor enclosure for my boas. It's hot as hell here in FL so I figured I'd make em a place to hangout during the day.

I can jump on board with that… I’d love to get a front opener for my leopard gecko, but why spend that kind of money when you can get excellent buys on glass tanks?
@@MrsVrba I made a vertical 40 for my red eyed tree frogs. You could do something similar. I boosted the tank up on furniture feet. Then I siliconed in acrylic to hold the water and substrate down low. Finally I used Velcro to hold on the screen lid. I could send photos for a tutorial if you want.

Great info, thanks! I actually WON a new ExoTerra Dart frog enclosure. I'm SO stoked about getting it set up that I cant decide what creatures to put in it. 🤣
That is awesome!
I have the zoomed and expo terra tanks, mine are all double doors. For the screen tops, I bought the metal enclosure lids you can get for aquariums that you can get when you convert a fish tank for reptiles. I have cats, so I get the lids to prevent the screen lids from getting damaged by the weight of the cats. It’s great for the BP as I can put the tape to cover up the humidity escaping on the underside of the metal lid instead of on the screen of the tank. This the only kind of tanks I have used.
In the Philippines, the most common brands for reptile enclosures are Zoo Med and ReptiZoo.
Kages may have the best products but they don't have many size options and their prices are undeniably excessive. Over $1,000 for a 4'x2'x3' isn't really justifiable in any way, their products my be quality, but they don't need to charge people 5x the materials cost. a 4'x8' board of quality 1/2" PVC can be bought at Home Depot and many other stores ranging from $100-$150. They don't need charge $1,000 because they drilled some holes in it for screws, drilled ventilation holes, cut it to size, and sent some glass or acrylic doors cut to size with it. People that just want to own a few reptiles as a simple hobby should not have to spend that much just because Kages is labeled as #1 and they can charge that much.
Perfect timing! My corn snake is about to outgrow her 36 x18 x18 ExoTerra and I’m shopping for her PVC adult enclosure!

This is a great video. I’ve been researching pvc cages for my baby Boa imperator and having a hard time deciding. I think I’m going to go with Zen, since they’re the only ones that are “expandable”. That’s pretty much my deciding factor. I also have a glass enclosure from Reptizoo that I really like for my leopard gecko because it has vents on the side. He seems to be much happier in it as well.
I was literally telling myself a couple hours ago how I wished you had an enclosure video guide as I looked around at different brands lol
Nice. I've kept fish longer than I've kept reptiles (unless you count birds as reptiles) so I always have extra tanks that I typically use for reptiles or I just build my own enclosures. I always liked the manufactured reptile enclosures, but didn't know much about them. Thanks for the info

Awesome, thank you!
I just got an S.O.G. Plastics enclosure yesterday and it is a good PVC enclosure and the cheapest I've found ($200 for 4'x2'x12"). You might want to check them out.
DIY is my choice. Melamine MDF is like 50 bucks for a 4ft x 8ft piece. Another 30 bucks for other pieces etc. Even PVC or other plastic pieces can be purchased. Allows very custom sizes, racks, etc. Once you get the first one done you can really save some money, especially for really large or tall enclosures. Otherwise Boamaster is probably the most reasonable price wise. Just a thought.
They are gone. As are some others that used to be around, like dragonhaus
Frickin LOVE the Uncle Roger character! ♡ hahaha. Fuyoh.

thanks!
I like two door fronts. My crested geckos love to hang out on the front door and with a 2 door front I can keep the door they are on closed when misting or feeding
