      To help you with your pronunciation, pretend there is a "h" after every singular vowel when it's spelled in English. Each vowel has it's own distinct sound. So for a, e, i, o, u, pronounce them as you would in English as ah, eh, ih (sounds like a long e), oh, uh (sometimes pronounced as ooh as it should really be spelled as a oo as it was originally, but was changed to u, for some reason, probably because of the way guk would look like a derogatory word in English). So hanbok should be pronounced hahn bohk. Bibimbap would be pronounced bih bihm bahp. While it's not for every word, it will be for the vast majority of words. As for that kalguksu (kahl guk sooh, I had to spell guk like that as youtube would flag the comment and delete it), I'm glad you liked the soup since you don't like seafood as the broth has an anchovy base.

    • @rxlxviii
      @rxlxviii Рік тому

      By the way, you'll notice that guk (once again spelled this way so youtube won't flag it) is part of the name of a lot of countries, such as hanguk (Korea), miguk (America), joonguk (China), youngguk (England), etc.

    What you ate is Tteokbokki and Bindaetteok, which is called Mengbin Pancakes in English. Tteokbokgi is the most famous street food in Korea.
    On a rainy day, people typically pair Bindaetteok with a rice wine known as makgeolli. Soju is the most popular alcoholic beverage in Korea,
    and what you eat is called hotteok. Thanks for sharing. Have a good trip. Greetings from USA.

    You bring back good memories for me!! I really miss these Korean foods. Kalgusku and Mandu are two of my favorite Korean foods. I am not a fan of Tteokbokki either! Definitely try the flavored Soju's that you can get in any corner store there and for very cheap. The blueberry and peach flavors of Soju are recommended. I wasn't a fan of the rice wine called Makgeolli. Funny that you compared the hotteok to beaver tails. Beaver tails are much better imo. ;)

    1. Walk at night, being surrounded by noise wine houses or go in and feel the excitement of others.
    2. Hike on mountains out side of seoul.
    3. Sauna,a bath house at the same time you could sleep a night with strangers next to you - a packed house would only give you an inch space between you and your neighbors - - a new family?. It's got a steam room, burning dry room, even ice cold room depending on place. You take a bath with others, completely naked. A total healing place for day's work.

    A lot of Korean dishes go well with served sauce which makes food more flavorful. For example, Mung bean pancake does with soysauce and fresh onion that come out together. I hope you won’t miss the better way to enjoy dishes if you have another chance to do so. You can ask locals nearby you how to have them in the best way as well. They are willing to let you know.😊 Plus, Slurping noodles is okay in Korea. It sometimes could mean the expression that they are so good and you enjoy them.

    I enjoyed watching you two in Korea for the first time! I got to visit last year… just had a LONG layover and jumped into the city to see a new culture for a little bit! I came like you guys from a much more affordable part of Asia (for me a trip to Thailand) but the sticker shock of the prices AND how cold it seemed in contrast just from Thailand to Korea. I went in similar climates I went in the end of October from Thailand to South Korea last day of October And Man did the cost jar me. I easily spent as much as I had in 10 days in Thailand on extras on my 6-8 hours in Seoul. I totally enjoyed it and will return BUT it was a shock!

    Kalguksu in Gwangjang Market is generally anchovy soup, but there seems to be chicken noodle soup as well. Chicken Kalguksu(Dak kalguksu) is famous in Ilsan, near Seoul. The broth of chicken kalguksu tastes like samgyetang without ginseng.

    Hi guys, I think you would experience more unique street food at Myeondong night market ie..Popular Eggbun..you could also try more delicious food like Babimbap-mixed rice, Bulgogi or Jeju Black pork dish, Seolleongtang-Beef broth soup, Pyongyang Naengmyeon, Kimchi Jigae soup etc.. in some of the side street small restaurant...don't go for fried chicken& pancakes which are boring. Lots of other street food much more interesting n delicious to eat...What u ate in the market is for local people to eat as daily consumption ie. dumplings n noodles are basic staples for them.

    Good question about slurping. It was considered rude to slurp, or even hold the bowl because you had to be slow and calm in our culture. BUT customers eating more deliciously (vigorously maybe) became more and more important these days. Probably because it shows how delicious it is. It is still slightly controversial, but ppl won't be too harsh on foreigners.

      Actually. slurping is considered quite rude for some people. Traditionally, you can't make any sound at all while you're eating. I remember I got scolded when I accidently hit a tableware with a spoon let alone slurping. I think people started slurping when Mukbang started gaining popularity.
      However, it is considered rude when you don't slurp while eating noodles in Japan. It is a way of showing your gratitude for the food.

    호떡이 충분히 비버테일과 비슷하다고 생각할수 있습니다. 기본적으로 기름에 튀긴다는것과 시나몬이 들어간다는것이 비슷합니다. 다만 재료 단가로만 치면 기본적으로 바나나가 올라가는 비버테일이 조금더 재료값이 더나갈것 같습니다. 또한 보통 비버테일은 초콜릿을 올리는데 호떡은 기본이 잣과 같은 견과류와 흑설탕 혹은 꿀, 시나몬이 기본입니다. 다만 요즘 호떡은 변형된것이 많아서 누텔라가 들어간것도 있긴합니다. 하지만 호떡의 가장 기본적인맛은 영상에 나온것과 일치합니다.

    Really Welcome to my country , Seoul , South Korea ^^~ ♥ ~
    1,700 years ago, King Gwanggaeto, called the Great Emperor of Goguryeo, Korea's ancestor, took up much of the land in what is now southeastern Russia and northeastern China. The king naturally took over the land by punishing and punishing those who had been committing looting, theft, and rape. But the reason why Russian Putin invaded Ukraine today is absurd. Is it right that you are fighting a war to regain your territory? It is time for communist countries with regimes such as China's Xi Jinping and Russia's Putin's North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to answer It's time to throw away the nonsense that they always love peace as long as they're a juggernaut. Is it right or wrong that their logic invades? Answer! Don't forget the past when Russia and China were equally defeated by Japan, Britain and France.
    Welcome to Seoul, the capital of South Korea ^^~ ♥ ~

    Unlike famous places that are already known around the world, such as Namsan Tower, Lotte Tower, Hongdae, Gangnam, etc., I would like to introduce you to places that are less known but more wonderful
    It is Eungbongsan Park in Seongdong-gu
    ◆The fastest way to get there ◆
    Subway 1. Eungbong Station (within 1KM walk), and the following place is within 3KM of subway station. 2. Haengdang Station 3. Sangwangsimni Station 4. Wangsimni Station 5. Sindang Station (Hipdang)
    Access from
    There are a myriad of relatively less well-known places in Seoul, which are much more dynamic, fun, and so pretty than the famous places already known in the world. Korea, especially Seoul, is a city that is more interesting than I imagined, fun and pretty places, locations, relatively spicy but less greasy food, and is also a very cheap, comfortable, safe and clean city.
    also,
    I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy another night view that's much more beautiful than the usual night view of Namsan Mountain and Lotte Tower in front of you. Especially, if you climb Eungbongsan Mountain and Geumhosan Mountain from Hawangsimni-dong, it is a few kilometers away between Cheonggyecheon Stream and Seoul Forest Park, and the food is very abundant. In addition, if you walk slowly for about 2 hours, you can reach Namsan Mountain from a place called Dulle-gil that starts from Maebongsan Mountain and Geumhosan Mountain. This place is very close to Gwangjang Market, Jungang Market, Geumnam Market, a food paradise filled with traditional Korean food. It is also very close to Seongsu Bridge, Hannam Bridge, and Dongho Bridge. So Gangnam Station, Apgujeong Station, Myeongdong Station, Insa-dong is very close
    As such, there is a superb view of the Han River at the top of Eungbongsan Mountain (81m) and Maebongsan Mountain (95m) in Seongdong-gu. What's more interesting is that the distance between the two is only 3.1 kilometers by car and 2.4 kilometers by foot.
    =>
    The unique and beautiful night view of Seoul on UA-cam, which is explained in more than 30 languages
    (northeast) Gwangjang Market, => (southeast) 1.5km from Gwangjang Market, Dongdaemun ddp 900m from there (east) 900m from Jungang Market, Jungang = 30km from Wangsimni Park to Wangsimni Park (southwest). I have a question. Why do foreign UA-camrs always look at the camera while putting food in their mouths?
    If you raise your head when putting food in your mouth, the food may not enter your mouth properly and you may end up spilling it or getting it on your mouth and chin.
    And it's visually odd too. When you look at the camera as you add food, the viewer must look into your eyes and watch you swallow the food. Isn't it strange? :(

    "Ho dduck " isn't really pancake as you translate Dduck it's like rice cake
    Ho dduck should not be called as pancake.
    Not thing wrong with you cause you didn't know but I thought someone should let you know

    Do not be deceived by the look and smell when it comes to Korean food. That is something I learned experiencing the food. After experiencing Korean food, I noticed how many people in this world are still stuck to the limited variety of food they eat all their lives. I mean here in America, we eat salty burnt meat with dumped up who-knows-what sauce, potato and bread all our life. Ashamed how low of level my palate was.
