Welcome to South Korea! This is our first time here and we'll be exploring Seoul. In this video we're exploring Seoul, South Korea and giving our first impressions of this massive city. We start things off in the Insadong neighbourhood where we make our way through the tiny streets of Ikseondong Hanok Village. We eventually make our way to Cheonggyecheon (river/stream that goes through the city) and to Myeongdong. We also stop for some beer a KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) at a place called BHC Chicken.

It's much better to use 'Naver map' or 'Kakao map' instead of 'Google map' in Korea. 'Google map' is supposed to be incorrect in Korea due to the military reasons.

The name of the game that came out about 3 minutes(03:48) is 'janggi'.
Think of it as East Asian chess.
What is unusual is that each country has different rules for 'janggi' in East Asia.
Korea / China / Japan all have 'janggi', but they all play 'janggi' in their own way with different rules.

    Bringing back the nostalgia
Was there last October/November with my family (5 weeks)
Stayed at Myeong-dong (Crown Park Hotel) just opposite the department store & near Lotte Young Plaza.
    We had an amazing trip!
Used our Discover passes for the attractions (72 hour pass) & the T-money cards were so handy,we used it everywhere.
Most things were cheap so bought alot of clothes in Hongdae & Dongdaemun (ApM)
    Food was amazing!
We learnt the language for 6months & could hold a conversation to a point lol then we used our Papago app when it got harder.
We did go outside of Seoul (Daegu for 4 nights & Busan for a week)
Unfortunately we arrived the days just before the Itaewon Halloween Tragedy that took the lives of 150 young lives,& the whole city was in mourning throughout our stay...RIP
The weather was quite cold & it started snowing on our last week there....was beautiful!
    Thanks for the nostalgia
    Hope you enjoyed your stay!
    Stay safe & stay blessed

Living costs in Korea is pretty high due to the high minimum wages, it is actually higher than Japan. That will give you some ideas.
And the games that those elderly people played is called "Jang gi" it is Korean chess.
I hope you have fun traveling freely since Korea is a very safe country to be.

K-ETA is no longer needed for US citizens, not sure about other nationalities. Samsung is the most important brand from Korea. It’s said that Samsung, the company is so diverse, owning Hospitals etc, that most Koreans are brought into this world in a Samsung hospital, receive their health care throughout their lives with Samsung clinics and hospitals, own Samsung phones and electronics, work for a Samsung company or subsidery at some time during their life and finally are payed to rest via Samsung services.

We took an airline provided bus to the city center and did the speed tourist thing. We visited a temple, ate BBQ, and shopped. Then sped back to the airport. That counts as a visit, right?

That particular location is a small section of place called "Nakwon-dong" which is a popular location among male retirees for hang out. Nearby, free meals are available for anyone around. There are tons of relatively lesser-known places in Seoul that are much more dynamic, fun and so pretty than the famous ones already known to the world.

We lived in Seoul for about 4 months. Such a great city. A lot of amazing food and interesting culture. Personally, I grew up watching Korean films, so it was a serious bucket list place for us. Nice to seeing you guys have a good time there.
And I miss Korean fried chicken. Some of the best fried chicken we've ever had. Especially with the radish and beer to accompany it. ❤
PS, Korea is definitely not pricy. If you find it expensive, you're going to the wrong places. It can be incredibly cheap.

Western food is definitely more expensive, but our local "mom and pop" kind of local Korean spots were super affordable back then! Maybe it has changed since then?

SK costs are not cheap. It is almost same with Japan, as same as the highest salary and costs in Asia. S.KOREA GDP per person is over 30k USD, same as Japan.

    • @wherearewe-yt
      @wherearewe-yt Рік тому +6

@@loveseoulmarui1502 Japan also still has plenty of cheap food options as well. Both countries have cheap meals for around $10. I'm talking about food options- not cost of living.
They're tourists, so those costs don't affect them. I've lived, or stayed long term in 9 countries, and staying in Korea was pretty average. Of course, getting paid local wages, having to pay that insane key money would make it much more expensive- but daily life costs (transit, food, etc) weren't as bad as places in Europe, or Canada where I've also lived. Seoul is certainly more expensive than some places, but I wouldn't call it "expensive" in comparison to other places I've been. As a tourist, there are cheap options if you know where to go.
