My lovely mom is platinum blonde, but she would kill me if I (her only son and bleach-master) ever would cut her long hair short 😁, for making a short Jean Harlow style, only why I'm curious how it would look like. That's why I asked you for a 1930s style (lol)😆
I found an old German book of coloring hair from 1930s, with old recipes how they accomplished platinum blonde, back in the old days. Here is one I translated and want yo share with you.
I've never tried it, but its sounds interesting to me. It's like a very very strong and smelly bleach bath:
30 gr. of liquid soap
20 gr. of hydrogen peroxide 10 or 20 vol.
10 gr. of magnesium carbonate
6 drops of ammonia 0.88 (25% conc.)
For 20 minutes rinse and acidify with diluted vinegar or 4 lemons 🍋 for 1/2 hour.

The way my school taught me to check my section size was holding the roller perpendicular to the scalp. your section shouldn't be larger than the diameter of the roller.
