I have a "modern" Middy cut which seems to work well for my hair as I can pin curl it and get an accurate 1940s/1950s look, but I can also wash & wear as my hair is naturally fine and curly so it styles itself if I don't do anything with it! :) Thanks for doing this video Mrs Super! I love your look and it's so helpful. :)
Bonita what hair setting lotion are you using I would try the Nairobi it’s a blue comes in a foam pump I got my first foam pump on Amazon and then I buy a refill at a local ethnic hair setting salon place supply I get it fairly damp and then I put mine in rollers and let it dry if your hair is thin and you want that set to last longer I would try this. Also there’s really great metal rollers that usually you can find on eBay and just let it dry.
Thanks Lisa, and thanks for your Instgram comment too. :) Yes you can indeed do vintage styles with poker straight hair too. The curl, lack thereof and thickness (or lack thereof too) all will change how it looks in the end. Whether you need backcombing for fullness, how long the sets last and all that. One of the benefits for me with my hair type is I can get a week from a single set (and nightly roll up)! I just change up how I brush out or pin up according to what's on for the day. :)
I appreciate that you address the foundation need for the right haircut, one just can't get great style results without addressing the cut. I'm really enjoying your videos, but they've made me late to work this week, LOL! Keep up the great work.
Thank you this seems to help me. I have tried pincurls before, yet I did a pincurl flat, not a barrel pincurl. It did not work, but maybe this will! I'm planning on trying this tonight! Thanks!
+ShojoBro YOu should be able to. It will still require setting to relax the curls into the right shape, but they should hold for a long time. If you do decide to go ahead with the cut, let us know how you go! :)
You are so gorgeous !! I have looked everywhere for something like this. I will use this video for my year 12 formal in November. Thank you so much for this video! It was super helpful!
I like all 5 styles and I know you said in the video that is all comes down to the brush out. Would you ever consider doing a video on the brush outs needed to do those looks?
I've been thinking about going with a middy for months now but I just have one question. Is this the type of style that works with overnight set curls? I'm a full time student and I work so naturally I like the styles I can set the night before but I just wanted to know your opinion on using overnight sets with a middy. Thanks!
Would love it if you listed all the make up you are wearing in your videos as I'm sure it would save you a lot of question answering (plus your makeup looks amazing!!!) xx
I came here cause I was hoping that you were going to show me how to do a basic medi cut that says haircut but your video is wonderful, And that’s similar to how I style my hair I use metal rollers called tiptop and ventilated rollers in metal from the 50s Do you have a video that shows how to cut similarly to the diagram or the hairstyle 💇🏽♀️
I'd just like to add that my hair is poker /stick straight and I style my hair using vintage settings consistently. It all depends on the setting lotion. Haha. Fingerwaves now, that is a different story...haha.
Hello! I love this video, but I have a few questions. Do you style this every day, or do you sleep on your curls? What is curl maintenance between hair washes with a hairstyle like this one? Or do you wash and style every single day? I am very interested in this, but I'm not sure how often I should be curling, or if I should sleep on the curls or not. Thanks so much!!
Your hair is exactly what 8 was looking for. Is this then a uniform hair cut? The hair is taken out at 90 degrees from the head and cut so there are layers all over. No matter where you pull the hair from, it’s the same length? I had my hair cut but the hairdresser did a one length mid cut and then began thinning! I had to protest and say no. I always had long vintage hair but you know how scissor happy some hairdressers can be. I normally cut my own hair as it is very hard to communicate with hairdresser what vintage retro hairstyling is, even with picture references. I use the rag rollers with wire in from Amazon, mouse in towel dried hair so it’s damp and not wet. Then roll with the No heat rag rollers and wrap in a scarf like you. Then barrel curl the fringe section out of the scarf which looks great even for going out. Problem is, this one length mid cut is not working for the usual method I use, because it’s not layered. I just need to know if it’s a uniform cut? Or, do I cut a base line section top vertical cut on top of the head and bring hair up in sections to cut to this vertical baseline for a longer layered look?
I have naturally curly 3b spiral curls if you go by ouidad catigories and I was wondering if this would work for me or if it would turn out to be a disastrous pyramid/poodle hybrid look?
when you said it works best for hair with a natural wave, does that mean if my hair is naturally straight I should try something else? like heat-styled pin curls?
I can't speak for the author, but my hair is pin straight and a wet set (overnight) with foam rollers and Lotta Body works perfectly. No heat needed. In fact, my hair has never held a heated curl.
Catalina Lopez hairstylist here, a pageboy is shorter than a middy, and then theres the "baby" which is shorter than the page boy. Pageboy will work, but your finished style will be much shorter, all three haircuts will work for this style, just deoends how short you want it
I don't have a specific video, but really if you simply play with your curls after the set, you'll find a tousled look that works for you. I achieved this by running my fingers through the style after I'd smoothed it out beforehand.
Help i'm in love with 1940's fashion but also boho hippie style. I struggle with current trends as i'm an hourglass figure so i want to go back to my 1940's obsession. I currently have naturally curly brown hair almost to my waist and its starting to drag me down and its sooo much work (being curly and thick plus almost an hour to wash it porperly). I want to cut it short almost a long bob but i'm scared ill miss my long locks as i also love Victorian romantic fashion any advice? ***Personally i think its time to lop it off I've had this long mermaid hair four almost four years but i will miss my hippie side. In truth these days crop tops and baggy clothes DO NOT work on my body and i feel most confident in vintage cuts
same here!! i feel ya :/ especially the struggle between beautiful boho hair vs feeling confident with shorter cuts . but ive decided its time to chop it off . change is nice sometimes especially when youre in control of it . wish me luck :D and good luck to whatever decision you make
Honestly I love it unstyled too! I really want it now because I've had many lazy days throughout my life! XD

I have been looking at that haircut for some time for myself, looks alot like what Marilyn Monroe had in the 1950s...thanks for the information.
+marie elena That's exactly what it is - if you're after a Marilyn cut you want a 4-6 inch middy. :)
I can't believe women did this for their hair on the daily. It looks lively though and it suits you. Very pretty.
You are so beautiful! So happy some people still appreciate the past ;)
I'm going to do this when my hair is long enough. thank you so much, darling!
Thank you so much for explaining the Middy Cut and the proper set so well. Your results speak for your skill. All the examples look fabulous.
Wow que bien lo haces y que bonito te queda el cabello. Te vez guapisima.😊

That's great news, let me know how it works for you. :)
I have naturally curly hair (as in loose dry ringlets), and I think if I cut my hair, I'll be able to achieve this look, thank you!

This is just perfect and you are absolutely beautiful. Do you think this cut suits to a round face shape?
Also...you rock. :). So glad you did this video.

I NEED HELP i was wondering i have very thick hair and its very curly can i pin curl with a wet set?
If you really want to style your hair like this you'll need to do it the ay ladies did 'back in the day'; get a body wave perm!
Oh my god. You are so gorgeous!
Here did you get your little clips for the curls?
Your voice is soothing 😏
+TheDebbiespagnolo Thank you - that's so kind :)
Can you share the dimensions of your home made scarf, please?

You can buy a good one at Hairhouse Warehouse by Kusco Murphy. :)
You sure can! :)
Hey can you do a tutorial on how to do finger waves.
+purplelove010 We already have one - just check out the channel listing. It's not easy but give it a try :)
Is the sweater you're wearing in this video vintage or vintage reproduction? I have a very hard time finding sweaters like that.
I want this haircut but I have thin fine hair ☹️ and alopecia 😞😞😞😞
beauty. :)
Can you do a page boy with this cut?

Why have we lost this way of being feminine??? 😭😭😭
I would go with the curls still undone because even then they looj gorgeous!!!!
Do you have a video on how to achieve the look in the third photo at the beginning of the video? I love that it’s a little bit sexy and undone.
I don't have a specific video, but really if you simply play with your curls after the set, you'll find a tousled look that works for you.

Where
Where do you come from? :)
Do you happen to know what lipstick you were wearing in this video?
Hi Taylor, yes it is Beseme "Cherry Red", one of my all time favourites. :)
Super Kawaii Mama Thank you!
Did Marilyn Monroe have the layers, too?
How would you ask for this at a salon? Just say, " I want a muddy?"
Middy I meant
gorgeous
