Love this format guys. Going back now and catching up on your past shootouts.
Also loving the blind format that lets the 105's of the world beat some of the bigger name and $ bottling. I am going to go get a bottle and give it a try. Only feedback would be to just include bottles that are 'reasonably' available as a lot of us would like to try your winners.
Thanks again
thanks Richard, we have a blast doing these.
I was winning the bidding on your winning choice at auction, and now the price has gone through the roof! You guys are influencers!
Awesome for us but we apologize for the price increase.
Just hurried to see the final before your live tonight. Awesome shootout series! I am sad for my fav Glendronach but I am happy for Tomatin! That’s got to be a killer dram! If I knew I would have bought it in addition to the bourbon matured one I bought when I was there in October :-D
Emmm...means you need to go back. lol
What a fabulous finale... and the same dram made it to number one... Superb!
thanks Quig!
I just asked my wife if I can go to Scotland, and she didn’t even blink. Ok! Gotta plan a trip to Tomatin!
Awesome! Thanks Howard!
Awesome shootout guys! Sounds like I need to find a way to get that Tomatin PX Distillery Exclusive:)
yes you do! thanks Keith
Love the show. Fairly new subscriber. I have a bottle of that Tomatin PX that I bottled in May 2017. I did the bespoke tour and tried all 5 of their single casks. That one was head and shoulders above the rest. I love it! Only about 1/3 of a bottle left now sadly. Great choice guys! If you have a chance to get Slipper Sipper 30.101 from SMWS, do it. It’s my new favorite sherried scotch.
very nice and thanks Isaac. We would like to have more of that Tomatin as well! will look for the Slipper Social!
Love it! I've had my eye on Glendronach 15 and Aberlour Abunadh for a little while. Nice to see them both make wildcard appearances here against some pretty tough competition.
definitely some solid pours.
Some mother-son bonding time watching the Dummies
sweet
Great series guys & eye opening for sure! I guess there really is some quality sherry NAS out there. I’m still slowly sipping away my A’bunadh that I bought 4 yrs ago. Love that stuff.
Yes indeed
Not bragging, but I called this when you guys first tried the Tomatin PX. I had a bottle of 2003 Oloroso Finish Single Cask around 62% it was BAM! baby. So powerful, oily and rich, I will always remember that one. I tried a sample of a Tomatin 90 Single Cask, but the 2003 was another level.
oh yes it is delicious!
Well done guys. Just epic, all the brackets and epic finals!!!!!
thanks Sorin!
Very impressive showing by Tomatin getting both picks! :)
yes it is Sowleg!
evening Scott , Bart im watching now and im rooting for the macallan no 4......lets see how it gets on....
it does good!
Fantastic shootout fellas. I have the Mac 4 on my radar. 👍
definitely! thanks Bronco!
Nice one! Bring us some more sherry shootouts!
I like the way you talk Travis! Scott
I was at Tomatin in late April; it was the first distillery stop that continued with Aberlour, Balvenie, Glenfarclas, Glendronach and concluding with Glen Garioch. Guess I should have picked up a bottle...
wow, that sounds like a blast!
This was a fun idea guys!
definitely fun for us!
I did my own testing alongside the Dummies, I had Abunadh, Tea Pot, GlenDronach 15, 18, Linkwood 15. & Tomatin PX
Great fun
which won?
Scotch Test Dummies no surprises
The Tomatin PX
I had the same reaction you did when i took that first sip.
Great show, guys, but I still wonder how the 105 could make it to the finals ? I think there is a reason that it is selling in Europe for half the price of an A‘bunadh.
all blind, bart really liked it.
Another great shootout! Terrific climax to a wonderful year. Thanks for all the hours of making whiskey analysis so absorbing and fun. Happy New Year, Y'll.
A MERRY SHERRY CHRISTMAS
Scotch test for Christmas.
Sherried drams, a sixteen pass.
One sole win, alas!
thank you Birddog!
Would líke to see the Dronach 21 participating in Sherryassic Park 2! Really enjoyed this one!
I was out of the Dronach 21 at the time! Now have a bottle from Christmas, it would have made a great appearance!
Can’t beat a distillery only single cask :) Those casks are amazing and I can totally see how it would win against multi cask bottlings! Enjoyed the video guys! Can we put up suggestions for next shootout?
absolutely give us suggestions!
Scotch Test Dummies you could do a shoot out between ten year olds and call it the “six-teen” shoot out
Scotch Test Dummies or terroir shootout, called the “terror terroir” or “terroir terror”
I smiled the whole time guys, thanks for the effort and sacrifice. :0)
thank you SDD!
😍! The SHERRY defeats STD! 😆
Sláinte Mhaith 🥃
it was a glorious defeat!
Yes indeed, I predictedthe winner!!. Thank you Scott, thqnk you Bart, great!!
thanks Luis!
Exciting ending to to a great series!
thanks Thomas!
great job guys the macallan no 4 got close ...well done tomatin...great watch and very interesting fellas.....
thanks friend!
“Quit saying tobacco” -Bart 😂
Your winner was the bottle I picked when I was at the distillery this September!😁😁😁
Not much left, I´m afraid, after all it is a single cask...
what did you think of it?
I think it is absolutely amazing, Scott! Don't tell anybody, I handfilled my bottle too high on purpose (ooopsi!) and then I could taste it...😊
Macallan fine & rare I also got to hand fill my bottle. I have lived in Scotland over 20 years but have only just discovered the pleasure in visiting distilleries that are on my doorstep.
Tomatin was the first, i’m gonna try and do a distillery each month starting in Elgin and heading down the Malt whisky trail.
Do you recommend any distillery tours?
Enjoyed that guys...well done picking the same winner! ;)
thanks Daryl! Wish we could get more!
Sound is all over the place and both pronunciations of Ximenez are correct.
something happened with the upload on the audio! thanks killahbrew!
Enjoyed the shoot-out dummies. Thanks for providing me the list of contenders so I could play along. I just knew the Tomatin PX was going to win. Toss that into the list of Unicorns I'll never see here in South Cackalacki. I pegged my winner before the shootout too. The SMWS Slipper sipper won my 16 bottle shootout. This was a much harder test than the peats were. I picked the #1 dram out pretty easily in each round but ranking 2 thru 4 was very challenging. I think I'm just about sherried out now. Might have to drink some tequila or mescal for New Years. What a fantastic 2018! You guys rocked it with some great content, guests and that outstanding 5 year anniversary party. Best of luck in 2019!
PS Guess Scott was right since the wildcards did NOT fare well. Scott removed his (Glendronach 15) as first dram out and Bart removed his (Abunadh) wildcard as his second dram out.
Thanks Jessie. I agree that this was tougher than the peats for some reason. Really trying to analyze and find the variances was the trick.
Very nice! 👏👏👏 Happy and Healthy New Year guys!!!
thanks Vrich!
great shootout. however the winner is one no one can get unless we go to Scotland. dang lol
unfortunately true. plan a trip quick!
Hey guys.........Whatever happened to the entry of the Tamdhu...can du Cask Strength into the Sherry Shootout as you promised when you did a review of that whisky? Would love to see that one. For me its my best whisky find of 2019!....S'lainte!
it should be in here G Man, go to bracket one and watch. Not sure which bracket it was in.
Great shootout guys! Loved watching you both agonizing over which ones to eliminate. And what a fitting ending for the Tomatin PX. I don't have a bottle myself, but my brother bought one during a visit to the distillery last summer, so I'm hoping to scrounge a dram off of him. I'll trade a dram of the Glengoyne Teapot 2018 for it! At least I've got a bottle of that tucked away. Interesting to see, as you both noted, that the NAS sherried drams performed so well all the way through to the finale. And most of those go for about 50 to 60 euros on the German market at the moment so we're really spoiled for choice! And what's coming up next for the big shootout format in 2019? Maybe the best Island Dram, the best Irish dram, the best expression bottled at 46%, the best dram exclusively matured solely in ex-bourbon casks, or the best beginner's dram of between 10-12 years maturation? I'm sure you're mulling over the possibilities already. What's clear to us all is that you've stumbled onto a belter of a format which drums up some really intense interest as the heats progress and then has us salivating when the finale finally comes round. Heaps of thanks, Scott and Bart, for all the time and effort you've invested in this wonderful series - and all the very best for an inspiring and spirited New Year. Cheers!
thanks Russell, and as we say...we do it so you don't have to!
Great finish to the series guys ! Wondering what you think would come out on top in a Glenfarclas 105 vs 21 year ? They are close in price near me and have not had either, bearing in mind I'm looking for a sherry bomb . Cheers
haven't had the 21 but have had the 25 Farclas. would be interested to see.
The very Sherry merry Christmas
exactly!
Wonder how this would stack up against the Bunnahabhain 2003 PX, would be an interesting showdown.
could be Peter, never had that one.
Frustrating the winner isn't something available to buy easily, but has definitely been a fun watch nonetheless. Good work guys!
Look at any of the others in that final bracket!
@@ScotchTestDummies Very true! There's always auction sites also for the winning bottle
Headphone user sound WARNING @0:35 (right ear), @2:12 (right ear) and @24:52 (both), sounds kicks back in so possible jump scare @27:49, would have funny if that glitch happened at the very when the glasses are clinked together.
something happened with the upload, not sure what.
Great show, great whiskey and poor audio. Thought I blew my amp and/or speaker. Needs a warning at the start.
thanks Kenneth, something happened with youtube and the upload.
Nice job guys! I suspect the Tomatin malts may have carried it to the top! Was that bottle fully matured in PX or just finished? Be curious how it would fair paired directly against the Glendronach's
if I remember right its about 10 years in ex bourbon and 6 in PX.
Hey guys! Just curious, on the Mac CC were you drinking the 17’ or 18’ for the shootout?
Scratch that! Went back and rewatched the opening of Round 1. Killer shootout gents! Right in my wheelhouse and fantastic to watch 👍🏻
Thanks Adam! Yep the 17 edition, the 18 just started showing up here. still need to pick one up.
Closing in on 10 000!
Any idea how many bottles of the Tomatin were produced. Don’t think I will find this.
unfortunately its a distillery visitors center release only. But once one barrel is gone, they replace it with another!
How does your "Tomatin PX Dist" compare with the "Tomatin Scotch Single Malt 12 Year Cuatro PX", which is available?
have not had that one so i'm not sure. This was a single barrel release from their visitor center and is 16 years old.
Only 59 subs to go to hit 10k.... will it happen before the end of the year? I’ve been enjoying this Sherry Shootout sherry much.. next to the smokies the sherries are ‘in my wheelhouse’... I must be Bi-Whiskual 😂
muwahahahaha thanks Patrick!
Thanks to the UA-cam algorithm this video appeared and I rewatched the série ... what do you plan for this Christmas?
No plans at this time but we shall see
@@ScotchTestDummies sounds like a future plan 😂
Where is the Private Preserve update?
You are on the ball Alex. It is on the list to get filmed next and should post the first part of January! we are looking forward to those updates!
Damn... ruptured my right eardrum at 0:39! Painfull....! Fix it dummies (again at 2:12 )
something happened with the upload. To fix we'd have to delete the video and reupload.
Thanks for the second warning... gd wearing headphones and my ear... lol
EDIT: Again at @24:52
If the Tomatin is a distillery only release single cask, then as the average consumer I find that your 2nd choices are the real winner’s. I wonder what is the consistency of their single casks, I think that is what you indicated this one was. The next one could be better or worse than the one you had as some variations do occur. Either way great job and It merely points out that a “well picked” single cask generally always wins the day be it Bourbon or Scotch!
great point and actually look at any of the picks in the championship round!
I was thinking the same thing, it would be a little more fair if they were doing all standard bottling releases. Still cool to see how a single cask can outshine the competition so easily.
Kyle Clement yes, single casks are only as good as the person or panel picking them and the efforts of their cask program and its ability to supply quality casks for filling. Even then the quality of the overall product can suffer because if you pull to many out that would be used for commingling purposes the overall flavor profile can suffer. Big distilleries have an advantage because of the volume of casks available means more surplus to play with.
@@thewhiskyscout1238 makes sense! It's surprising to me how much variation there can be between casks when they're made of the same wood, filled with the same spirit, and aged in the same conditions. It almost seems like either luck, or magic haha.
Kyle Clement sometimes!
Digital farts with your sound three times (if anyone was wear headphones,..ouch!),...the last one @24:52 the volume dipped significantly,..FYI. Great shootout boys. I always love them.
something happened with the upload! thanks Billy!
Hey, isn't that Tomatin a non starter? It is not available at all. Not sure that I would have thrown that one in as a single bottle that no one can get. I am sure there are a bunch of Mac's, Glendronachs and Glengoynes that would trounce it. The minute that the Tomatin beat the Glendronach 18, I knew it was going to win. Fun watching though. I think that you almost need to have a Cask Strength face off and a non CS faceoff. Not sure that it is fare to compare super high abv to std bottlings abv's. Abv always wins even if it is not as good. Just some points. As always, good review.
It can be got...just need to travel or purchase on an auction site. And Tomatin is doing such great things it's worth having in the mix. I've got a feeling they are going to have some explosive growth in the next few years. bart
A great struggle. Everything was too good.
yes it was Captain!
Interestingly, I believe the reason you don’t pronounce the Z at the end of Spanish words like Jimenez is because of the Spanish lisp made popular by King Phillip II of Spain. He was so inbred as a Hapsburg ruler that in addition to his profound jawline he always spoke with a lisp. So as not to offend the king, who at the time was the most powerful ruler in the world, it became obligatory to pronounce words like Jimenez with a lisp.
great to know! thanks Malty!
I have a few days off next week and I live 'only' 340 miles away from the Tomatin ditillery. How much is the PX per bottle?
Not exactly sure but I think it was approximately 80 pounds. As I mentioned above, there is probably not much left in the cask, so better call them before driving all the way, Trevor.
@@macallanfinerare2552 Thanks for that, Macallan. Actually, looking at the map and thinking about driving to Inverness in January has blunted my enthusiasm somewhat.
Macallan fine & rare I bought one at the distillery yesterday. £95
@@trevor7346 Understood. I drove all the way there from Frankfurt/Main, Germany this September and further up to Orkney (Scapa/HP) but I have to admit that the weather was great...😃
@@markslinger4599 Thanks Mark, sounds familiar.
First for the replay!
boom!
