Over 25yrs later I still remember the very first time I saw an F40. To this day, after seeing them on TV, reading about them in books and magazines, and studying a couple up close in person, that car still moves me the way it did back then. A truly stunning and timeless piece of automotive excellence.
I saw one for the first time this year on i70 through the mountains in Colorado. I couldnt believe what I saw, the car is even more beautiful in person. Felt like I was in Forza
The F40 is timeless, its design and technological features go beyond anything made after it. Its still one of the most if not the most beautiful super car ever created and to be honest, no other can ever recreate its unique style and characteristics not even Ferrari itself. I dreamed of this car as a boy, and I hope one day to be able to drive it even if its only for 5 minutes.
Love the car, but this clip doesn't seem up to par compared to your other videos. The pacing seems too rushed and there isn't really any focus on the driver or the car in any of the shots.
Is this some sort of sponsored content like with the 388 GTO? Seems not as high quality as your other works. Wanted a better story about the owner and his car.
Lets go back to the story behind owning the car and the personal experience without music over the top . Dont follow the pop music car video fashion which looks ok sounds bad and instantly forgettable. Your videos are perfect as they were stay true to the car and owner story thats all we want to experience.
I thought it was only me... was anticipating the day that petrolicious would feature an F40 then this video comes out.... loud electro music totally not suited for the car, dudebro driver, scene cuts every 5 seconds... disappointing to say the least, missed opportunity for a great video
I always appreciate the Petrolicious videos, it's special we get these for free every Tuesday. I would have loved to hear how the owner acquired this car and its story!
I hated the F-40 when it first came out. I rmemeber rushing home every week to get my hands on the latest AutoWeek, and the F-40 was all the rage. It wasn't till, well, I saw Jean Alesi race it at the DelMar fairgrounds. Even though it broke down, and all, you could tell, 1) how fast Jean Alesi was , and 2) what a sexy racecare it was. Then, much later, during my Navy times . . this was up in Oak Harbor, Washington State. Actually, it was up in Mount Erie. Me and a friend got lost, and we found someway off it; but, it was in the back from where we started; as we were climbing out of it, we saw a F-40; and, once again, I was struck by this car much more than what I saw of it in pictures. The Ferrari F-40 looks much better live than in pictures. To this day, the Ferrari F-40 remains my favorite sports-car. I don't care how fast the next greatest sports-car is. It just doesn't matter anymore!
What a great car. The history bits about Enzo approving this design were fun to learn about. No computer controlled stability, no music....wow. Beautiful on many many levels.
I still feel like this is the most beautiful car I've ever seen. I fell in love with the F40 right from when I was a kid, I was probably 7 or 8 and this was the first car poster I ever had. It's the only car that I fawn over it every time I see it, it never gets old. I had never seen one in real life until a few days ago, my heart skipped.
Still my favorite car ever made. I remember the first time I saw one in person, I was a kid and it was an LM driving around near Pebble Beach. Incredible
Completely agree. Owner stories are not what they once were on Petrolicious. Where is the object obsession? the story of the lust and hunt? the near self deprecation and embarrassment coupled with earnest pride?
Don’t listen to the other comments, all of these videos are professional quality. If this one doesn’t have some lover who bought it then oh well, we still get to see amazing shots of an F40!
I live in the Chicagoland area and we see this gem all the time, posted a video on my channel about it not too long ago. It's great to see Petrolicious film it!
It's such an iconic shape, recognized everywhere. If you'd ask us as kids to draw a sports car, almost everybody would draw the F40 shape. Sweeping bonnet and roof, with chopped back and that wing.
Was lucky enough to drive one of these back in 2011. Got to detail it too when I worked for Ferrari of NJ. The one I drove was the Euro-spec version. I happen to like the USA-Spec one more (featured in this video...which was too short btw)
Yes, this is an early nineties car. But for the generations having been blessed to experience the eighties to full extent as a heavily conscious human being, this car is somewhat different. Looking at this now, this beauty of beauties seems to compress all aspects of an entire decade to a single spot of perfection. This car is the essence of so many things, not just talking cars.
Really appreciate when an owner of one of these beauties actually takes it to the race track, rather than keep it under lock and key or the occasional concourse appearance.
If you're looking for more unhindered track time footage of the F40, check out Chris Harris' video comparing the F40&F50 on a racetrack. He's sliding them around and everything.
Fabulous car, great video. Music very period appropriate but I do agree that it's louder than the sound of this car. I remember buying Fastlane Magazine with the tape of the sound of the F40 (Nick Mason's car). I still have the tape... but no tape deck.
The entire segment I was in awe, the more I watched and learned a tad more I got squeamish lmao 😂. I'll be hunting for the F40 the next Caffeine and Octane in Atlanta.
As someone else mentioned, this feature is too short. However I would also like to point out, and it pains me to say this..., Petrolicious, you're slipping. Such elementary information provided about the car in this video. Its like you're NOT making these for car lovers anymore, but are trying to introduce the passion for cars to non car people. This and your last 7 or 8 videos all show this change. The fact this one was for a LEGEND ..... the F40, I could not remain silent. You're starting to coast on the great production values and forgetting about the CARS. Like McQueen said during the filming of LeMans when someone told him "There's no story here!" He responded, "Its about the fucking cars!"
Seriously, this car deserves a better video. Sorry, I'm a great fan of this channel, love the compositions, the lighting and all the passion you put into them. But this time, the editor could make this video in an hour or so :/ Music sometimes louder than the speak, totally nonsense cuts (from night to day, meanwhile studio then racetrack. Please please remake the editing and make it longer with more raw sound!
My dream car. I passes all this years try to see or know some owner to take a ride or a photos, by my self. This piece or art is something special for me. Infortunely my time on this live is countdown If i have money, is onde of this i try to bougth and take my ride of a live time. I hope your kids know how special is this car. The best of luck for you and familie.
Not a huge fan of Ferrari but that beast and the Testarossa, gosh... Awesome video as usual, but is there a list of musics that you use ? Kinda like those used in the video.
Uffffff, qué maravilla de video, qué maravilla de F-40, qué bonito y qué bien cuidado que lo tiene, enhorabuena. Me ha encantado. El F-40 es un mito y lo será siempre. BRAVO.-
Great car and Petrolicious is the best car video site out there but the music in this one seemed out of place for a petrolicious video, was it going for an 80’s feel ?
I would love to hear more details... what's the steering feel like?Is it power assist? How does it compare to other cars? How quick is the steering? Does the forward tilting steering wheel feel odd? I wish the video was longer, 4 min of Ferrari sexiness is not enough!
It was 4 min? I thought it was 2. Ended too early.
3:59
Only wrong thing about this video.... too short.
i aggree
I guess the guy wanted his car back..
The F40 just cant stay still long enough...
If you want more then y'all gotta check out Chris Harris's F40 vs F50 review. Guy went full Eurobeat with it.
Exactly, saw the video black out, so sad :'(
Love the car, but this clip doesn't seem up to par compared to your other videos. The pacing seems too rushed and there isn't really any focus on the driver or the car in any of the shots.
agreed
Right? I would expect this type of edit for 'Some guy's forlorn Lancia' ... not for such a legendary car.
Too many contrived and overly cinematic shots, little action of the car itself. Terrible video. Raw stuff is way better than this.
Is this some sort of sponsored content like with the 388 GTO? Seems not as high quality as your other works. Wanted a better story about the owner and his car.

Too short. Not enough pure noise. Editor on ADHD.
Still gave it a like because of the car.
I thought it was only me... was anticipating the day that petrolicious would feature an F40 then this video comes out.... loud electro music totally not suited for the car, dudebro driver, scene cuts every 5 seconds... disappointing to say the least, missed opportunity for a great video
First thing that comes to mind: this video is to short. Greatest car ever, most modern cars can't even outperform it.
I always appreciate the Petrolicious videos, it's special we get these for free every Tuesday. I would have loved to hear how the owner acquired this car and its story!
He acquired it from his dads garage like he has acquired everything in his life.
There is a video by Davide Cironi, where he interviews the engineer that designed the car, THE ENTIRE CAR CAME FROM A SINGLE'S MAN MIND
ua-cam.com/video/AlX-kgJuzxU/v-deo.html
Agreed... Anyone interested should watch Cironi's video about the car with CC on
And it shows! This car is "organic", it's a one-piece Work thoroughout, as it should be for every device!
I hated the F-40 when it first came out. I rmemeber rushing home every week to get my hands on the latest AutoWeek, and the F-40 was all the rage. If you didn't have a poster of the F40 growing up then you didn't have a childhood.
2 choices, a poster of the F40 or a poster of George Michael. Well maybe 3, the lambo Countach poster.
@@fubene5495George Michael 😂 too funny.
I had the F40, Lambo Countach, and Michael Jordan.
I feel like starting a drug empire and eventually buying this machine
It costs 1-2.5 mil. Not nearly as much as modern hypercars. You can buy it when you retire.
Where is the story? ... not up to snuff.
audioisgood
Yea seems like the videos these days are not featuring the stories about driver and his car anymore.. pity.
I thought the editing was pretty poor as well.
Completely agree. Owner stories are not what they once were on Petrolicious. Where is the object obsession? the story of the lust and hunt? the near self deprecation and embarrassment coupled with earnest pride?
Doug Ewing
Pretty sure this isn't his car.
Guys, you make amazing videos but there is no way that this is the best you could do for arguably the greatest car of all time!
Don’t listen to the other comments, all of these videos are professional quality. If this one doesn’t have some lover who bought it then oh well, we still get to see amazing shots of an F40!
sexiest Ferrari ever
Not the US version with those ugly bumpers
2112 I'm sure the us spec bumpers are better than the bumpers on YOUR f40... Lol
2112 but the us one came with more hp
bonejones true but it was also heavier. i think all f40s made more than the official 478hp though.
For me it`s Testarossa.
Best photography and production values of any car channel period. Lovely work!
Great preview. When will the full film be completed?
This felt like a trailer for an F40 Video Petrolicious will release later. It was good but now I want to watch the whole thing.
This is the car that was on my bedroom wall as a teenager. Love it, dreamcar!
I live in the Chicagoland area and we see this gem all the time, posted a video on my channel about it not too long ago. It's great to see Petrolicious film it!
No radio, the v8 is your radio,i love that and reminds me this car is for speed and power , no time to relax and enjoy music.
It's such an iconic shape, recognized everywhere. If you'd ask us as kids to draw a sports car, almost everybody would draw the F40 shape. Sweeping bonnet and roof, with chopped back and that wing.
Like the music and don't mind the driver's comments, but man, this video needs another FULL minute plus of driving accompanied by raw audio.
Was lucky enough to drive one of these back in 2011. Got to detail it too when I worked for Ferrari of NJ. The one I drove was the Euro-spec version. I happen to like the USA-Spec one more (featured in this video...which was too short btw)

Those lights man they've aged and not aged at the same instant, the paint job and the design.
Shazam doesn't recognize the songs you used at 1:33 mark. Some music credits would be appreciated, as they would be great road tunes. Cheers.
moonlit road-Evgeniy Vilner
Thank you for making this incredible video, means alot to me due to the fact i used to sleep in a f40 bed as a kid.
I can usually relate Petrolicious’s videos to a matter to beautiful cinematography and direction. This one falls short.
Just stopped next to this car at a stoplight not 25 minutes or so ago. A surreal moment for sure lol
Shh people, the music is PERFECT for this car #80s - awesome video!
Wish I knew what song it was!
My too!!
Anyone know?
Which song? There were too many!
The most appropriate IMO was between 1:33 and 2:30
Would appreciate if someone knew the names of _any_ of the songs on this video. Great soundtrack
The F-40 has such a cool look! It's so in-your-face! The music for this video fit the car perfectly too!
Really appreciate when an owner of one of these beauties actually takes it to the race track, rather than keep it under lock and key or the occasional concourse appearance.
First petrolicious video I've been disappointed with the editing on.
Thanks for recording this at night, the car looks great under city lights!
the best super car ever built period.
One of the best, if not the best so far. Great scenes and great background music but unfortunately to short.
1:17 - Game "OutRun" flashback!
I got the same feeling too!
Could be better with Testarossa ^^
If you're looking for more unhindered track time footage of the F40, check out Chris Harris' video comparing the F40&F50 on a racetrack. He's sliding them around and everything.
Automatic safety belts in an F40?
OMG! Just in USA
I was waiting for the day petrolicious did one of these
Growing up I had a 1:18 model of the f40 love this car
using the F40 as is should be. Hat's off to you sir!
This really should have been shot in Italy with an Italian person rambling on while driving :) Still, a great car.
Such a gooddamn awesome car. Raw, light, powerful and light. Dreams...
So light you have to say it twice to make clear how light it is!
stig gear Look i have a Bright idea for you - Lighten up already!
stig gear Haha I hate typing on my phone :D
Fabulous car, great video. Music very period appropriate but I do agree that it's louder than the sound of this car. I remember buying Fastlane Magazine with the tape of the sound of the F40 (Nick Mason's car). I still have the tape... but no tape deck.
Music list video.
Everything about this video was awsome. Loved the soundtrack took me back to Miami vice series. Please cover more cars of this era.
BEST episode. hands down.
The video is a let down by petrolicious standards. By other standards, amazing!
My favorite Ferrari and maybe my favorite car ever. Thank you for the video!!
The entire segment I was in awe, the more I watched and learned a tad more I got squeamish lmao 😂.
I'll be hunting for the F40 the next Caffeine and Octane in Atlanta.
Dam, the music fits the car's era. Bloody hell, make it longer.
Anyone know what city skyline that is at 1:18? Thanks I'd appreciate it
Probably the best car ever built! Great video but definitely too short! Should have been at least 10mins.
This is a thing of beauty and power. I really want to see (and maybe drive one) someday!
F40, i love you
What are the songs?
Just a Quad
Composed just for the video would be my guess.
As someone else mentioned, this feature is too short. However I would also like to point out, and it pains me to say this..., Petrolicious, you're slipping. Is this Chicago?
Does anyone have the name of the track beginning at 2:43 or 2:57?
Anyone has any clue about the title of the music at 0:38?
Seriously, this car deserves a better video. Sorry, I'm a great fan of this channel, love the compositions, the lighting and all the passion you put into them. Love the 80's vibe on this video.
Does anyone know the song at 1:33 Please and thank you!
I drive that road out in Chicago everyday. Plus I raced that track 3 times.
My dream machine, but not this american version, amazing video!!!
obviously I dont own one but did not know there was different specs i guess youd say
American version has 50 more bhp than euro spec
Marcelo S yeah, i would remove that ricer bumper ASAP.
This video was amazing. Music too
song at 0:38 please..
moonlit road-Evgeniy Vilner
Music 2:42 a 3:58 ?
If you find out let me know, I am looking too.
moonlit road-Evgeniy Vilner
looks like he's ripping around autobahn joliet in illinois, where i usually go. too bad i've never seen him or the car there.
People complaining about the length of the video need to lay off, he has to get it back to the garage before his daddy found out it was missing.
The sort of vibrant color grading in this video really suites this F40
Best video as always !
Was that a teaser? Felt like it just ended part way through.
My dream car.
I passes all this years try to see or know some owner to take a ride or a photos,
by my self.
This piece or art is something special for me.
Infortunely my time on this live is countdown
If i have money, is onde of this i try to bougth and take my ride of a live time.
I hope your kids know how special is this car.
The best of luck for you and familie.
Anyone knows the song starting at 2:43?
you guys must really put a playlist of the songs used in this video!!!!
Love the music and the feel. Beautiful.
Needs more neon city lights at night and dank 80s tunes.
My favorite Ferrari..... so sickQ!
Not a huge fan of Ferrari but that beast and the Testarossa, gosh...
Awesome video as usual, but is there a list of musics that you use ? Kinda like those used in the video.
What a georgous bit of kit. I would have this over any new super car. Money can't buy taste or class.
@ 1:35 - I bet someone tried to steal the Ferrari emblem!
Uffffff, qué maravilla de video, qué maravilla de F-40, qué bonito y qué bien cuidado que lo tiene, enhorabuena. Me ha encantado. El F-40 es un mito y lo será siempre. BRAVO.-
Awesome looking car! I've heard of the Ferrari F40, but I've never seen one in person, nor have I seen a video. :)
Just Love this car!
Synthwave music was a nice touch for this car
can you please provide me the link of this music ? need it badly
Imtiaz Ali me too 😀
looks like a intro for gran turismo
great video as always
I adore your videos..... Absolutely stunning!!!!
Great car and Petrolicious is the best car video site out there but the music in this one seemed out of place for a petrolicious video, was it going for an 80’s feel ?
Music at 1:13, PLEASE.
Does it have defroster over headlight housing?
I could listen to that engine all day.
Were the snap, crackle and pops tuned out of the engine? Every F40 I've ever heard live or media, has crazy backfires on the overrun. Just curious.
I would love to hear more details... what's the steering feel like?Is it power assist? How does it compare to other cars? How quick is the steering? Does the forward tilting steering wheel feel odd? What's the reason Ferrari has done that in so many cars? Would love to hear about the brakes, same kind of info as steering. What's a gated shifter feel like? It sounded very mechanical switching gears, is that just because there's no sound insulation? How heavy is the clutch? Is the suspension so stiff that the car feels like it's being rattled apart? What were the sensations while driving it? Is it a beast that wants to break free or is it powerful yet wants to be pointed and it just goes? Does it feel perfectly balanced? You get the idea:) more, more, more! Thanks for giving us what you did!
