I've got the Maxwells and love them. They are nice and comfy, my ears don't get "spicy", and i find I'm immersed quite happily in my story driven games. I don't play FPS at all. One thing that sells it for me is the 80 hour battery life on the Maxwells. I can go almost an entire week of gaming without needing to recharge. A huge bonus for me. I'm happy with the passive noise cancelling as well, no ANC mics hurting my ears. Also, and this is big a difference. The Maxwells are $130 AUD cheaper, and available now, though through a single retailer, whereas the Turtle Beach unit is $599 AUD and won't be available for another month, at least.
I just got the maxwells too man and the price for the stealth are a bit too much lol AddictedtoAudio are a pretty good lot from what i've heard so nice to support 'em
@@Eddienet Good thing you ask. Currently I've had them off, to semi watch TV with my partner, and I turn them up and have the cuffs open around my neck. With the headphones up, not sure of the level, I can hear my game, Pathfinder: WoTR, with no issues via the PS5.
I have the maxwell for like 2 weeks now and man that is the best gaming headset I ever tested. I didn't know that games could sound so good and clean. That headset is incredible.
@@michaelthompson9798 man I have tested the penrose before I bought the maxwell and the sound difference is not so big.The biggest difference is the build quality and the feature are far better than the penrose. Wireless is better on the maxwell there are any interference and the distance is better as well. If you have the penrose since launch, you can switch to the maxwell in my opinion, but if you have the penrose recently, I would wait another year and if there still have any better sounding headset in the market then I would buy the maxwell. In my case, the purchase paid off a lot, because I had the A50 gen 3 before, then I bought the Arctis Nova Pro, but I didn't like it and sent it back and finally bought the Maxwell because I tested the Penrose from a friend and it sounds so good so diceded to get the maxwell and I'm really happy with the purchase.
So I got my Stealth Pro's today and they don't come close to my Maxwell's sound wise and they're actually worse on comfort for me then the Maxwell and that's the only issue I have with my Maxwell's is the headband comfort. I'm returning the Stealth Pro's.
@@travismiller8369 I keep telling everyone that the Stealth Pro is a cash grab...I guarantee they sound Identical to the 2 year old Stealth 700 gen 2 which can be found much cheaper that already comes with cooling gel ear cups and a long battery life...this new Stealth Pro is a complete waste of time and $$$ These "UA-camRS" are getting paid by Turtle Beach to say that they are better than the Maxwells...ROFL
@Tom Pupino Yeah I kept raising the volume on the Stealth until it wss max and I was like this is it? I put my Maxwell's back on. I don't even listen to the Maxwell's at 100% just 50% is enough.
@@jasonbainbridge6196 very good not necessarily class leading but you can EQ to bring out footsteps even more. Maxwell are king for single player story driven and FPS second but still very good.
Planar magnetics are just something else. I've been playing Resident Evil Village with my Cloud Orbit S and I swear it takes immersion to a whole new level.
It's Maxwell for me. Having to remove the mic to have the battery replaced every time, makes me feel that mic 3.5mm connection will break at some point. Also, you have the additional base, where you will have an extra battery always charging (which wears it), to look for. At 4:03, the headband gives a little and will be an issue. So, how many possible things that could break? As I have had durability issues in the past with Turtle beach products, that's a no for me. I like the independent controls for chat and volume on Maxwell, click for noise suppression which works better and, IMHO, from the video we can tell that the Mic audio quality is better on Maxwell. Thanks for the video.
Canceled my maxwell. Waited since January. Well, I just bought the TB stealth pro. I have to admit, it is very nice. You can control all your EQ from your phone, and it will transfer right into your headset. The sound and mic are great. Playing WZ 2.0, I can hear everything. TB has so much setting. I tried a lot of headsets, and it's all personal preference. To me the TB is great.
I feel bad for you since you cancelled the Audeze's. I am so loving mine after using the Artic Pro Wireless for the past 5 years. These slay the Steel Series.
I didn’t even realize the Maxwells had an app, so it doesn’t bug me that it’s not a good app. The sound alone on the Maxwells are worth picking them over anything else. Super clean audio out of the box.
I have both pairs and the Nova pro wireless. The Maxwells are superior for every game except fps style games where footsteps are a big priority. The Stealth Pros are a close..close 2nd. Both are bad ass headsets. Love the Maxwells and digging the stealth pros so far.
@@chadsmith9031 which out of the maxwells or stealth pros have the widest soundstage? I’m looking for the widest soundstage for pubg, I only play fps games but mostly pubg at the moment. I currently have Astro a50’s and for example if someone shoots a sniper rifle in pubg at about 500 metres away, it doesn’t matter where it is (front/back/left/right/high/low) I always instantly know exactly where it is coming from. Even with footsteps in multi-storey buildings, if I’m on the middle floor and someone starts moving around then I know exactly where they are. Got maxwells pre ordered but if the stealth pros have a wider soundstage than the maxwells while still also sounding good them I may change my mind.
@@chadsmith9031 I agreed that for FPS games clear trebles dont necessarily mean the sound stage and imagery is better. So for pin pointing enemies which one did you like better including the Novas?
@@SAVOTAGExx I got the stealth pros, returned them because the soundstage was shit compared to the a50’s and volume was shit compared to the a50’s also. The soundstage of my a50’s is infinitely better, like not even close to being a competition. Ultimately I cancelled my Maxwell order because everyone says the stealth pros have better soundstage than the Maxwells, yet the soundstage of the stealth pros were crap regardless of how they were set up lol. Sticking with my a50’s.
I wonder what headset he is alluding to for next week. It would be nice if Astro joined the next generation with a new A50, the current model is just a little outdated at this point. With that said I'm loving my Maxwell's. And i can confirm the xbox version will work on the PlayStation as well.
@@jasonbainbridge6196 I can only compare them to the Astro a40s and a50s. The maxwells are better in every way, except for maybe comfort. I could wear the a40s all day. The Maxwells cups are a little shallow for my ears, I can't wait for some wicked cushions.
I have the Penrose now…picking up the Stealth Pro’s today at Best Buy…and have Maxwells coming on Tuesday…No idea what to do 😅 reviews on both are very close so I don’t think I’ll be upset with either…Just hoping the stealths can come close on sound, the Penrose has spoiled me with the planars
Thumbs up for the Maxwell too, only got it when I last talked to you Techne but music, sweaty fps and even range and comfort are beaut! And thats coming from Stealth gen 2 max. Cheers man for the awesome reviews and I hope your having a good one!
You nailed it in the review with the fun, exciting, and immersive sound part. I'm glad companies like Turtle Beach are not chasing the flatter "audiophile" sound signature that is boring in games.
@@eddi3401 be careful though, usually third party sellers. I almost bought a pair listed at 329 and thought they were Xbox, they were the PS ones that retail at 299 lol…almost got me
@@R0NxBURGUNDY oh really? I pre ordered my Xbox version in march and I got them by mid ma4ch which wasn’t bad at al, it was supposed to get to me by end of April the website said
Great review, can’t wait for my Maxwell to show up! If I may I think you are nuts on the mic 😂 I couldn’t stand your voice on the tb mic. Both built ins were very similar but the Maxwell was so much clearer and just easier on the ears.
I bought the Maxwells. I often have some background noise, and having a feature to mitigate that is nice. I've had them for about a week, and they are doing great.
@@boardathome1232 Good tip! I meant background noise that might be picked up by the mic. I was really sold on the noise filter technology for the microphone on the Maxwell. It works great! I should've been clearer in my original comment.
I bought Maxwells to listen to music FIRST and gaming a distant second. They sound really great. You said the maxwells cups are plastic but I’m fairly convinced they are aluminum.
So for me, which likes to play RPG's, Story driven games, Sim Racers and would also want to use it to listen to music and conference calls. I feel attracted to the Maxwell. To bad it hasn't ANC so that I could use it in the Train or Plain (not primarily for listening music, but for blocking the noise) Thanks for the Review!
@AmpEdition agreed. I had a neighbour mowing this past weekend, and though I could still hear the mower, it was only when I wasn't listening to anything, as soon as Horizon Forbidden West loaded up I couldn't hear them mowing.
I don't understand, Techne, you gave the Audeze Maxwell outstanding praise for sound quality, comfort, build, and hardware in the video made for them; yet here you would overall recommend the Stealth Pro's but then bounce back by saying that the magnetic driver's are an experience like no other. I think the point is that they are both outstanding; but, if you had to choose, you would choose the Stealth Pro's. Could you explain your thinking a bit more on this? Furthermore, would you still recommend them for someone who is interested in a headset to cover not only gaming but music and other forms of media as well?
Just get the maxwell....the Stealth Pro sounds just like the Stealth 700 Gen 2 guaranteed...Which I have 2 pairs of already for my XSX/PS5...The Maxwell will be far more immersive...and do use the custom EQ setting for the Maxwell as it really wakes up the headset quite a bit...
I almost find it a slap in the face to compare the Audeze Maxwell to a Turtle Beach... The Maxwell is legit the best wireless gaming headset I have ever owned.
Turtle Beach's track record with bad quality builds have really put me off their products(the break a lot). I was close to canceling my Maxwell order( I order the maxwells April 9th and will not get them until mid May. and was going to order the pro's but I have never experienced planar magnetic drives. Sticking to my heart and choice. I'm hopping I'm making the right decision. I do not care for the feature riches that the pro offers as I will be purely using the maxwell on my pc.
Hasnt even been in a month yet and the mic went out on my Pros. Sad thing is I was just like you and gave TB one more chance after my 700s choose to work when they feel like it. For $360 youd expect this was durable, high quality. Wrong. Purchased my maxwells today and hung up the Pros for whenever TB decides to contact me back on a fix.
I decided on the Maxwells. I am sending this text 4 months after your comment. I am so glad and relived I went with this brand. Turtle Beach's headphones got away for so long with their gimmick products that they do not deserve anyone's business. Fooling kids or people that do not know any better is why I have never bought their trashy products.
Just got my Stealth Pros this morning and tested in Resurgence Solos. Could hear enemies running a mile away; pinpointed their location and got ‘em dead. Superhuman hearing is a total game changer. My wife had to walk in front of me to get my attention due to the 80% ANC. 😂 The sound, out the box, is phenomenal. Can’t wait to dial it in with the EQ. They’re totally comfortable, too! Thanks for the assist in making sure I invested in the quintessential headset for gaming.
Since getting the PS5, I have had the SteelSeries Arctis Pro 7P+, then the Razer Barracuda. The SteelSeries were fine, for sound, but the mic sucked. The Razer were doing fine until about a month ago when mid-match, they would randomly just shut off. Didn’t think anything of it until it cost me several matches. I used it for Bluetooth while working on the yard, also, and same thing. Would just turn off. After watching the review on the TB, and seeing the written reviews, I pulled the trigger.
I have both and for me the Maxwell just sounds Amazing i don’t get where everyone saying the stealth pro better for FPS games i don’t feel it’s better i think you jus need to EQ a lil bit on both headsets.. i like the stealth app and customization and all but didn’t like the clamp force i would say you can’t go wrong with these two for me #1 Maxwell #2 Stealth pro 🫡 Took stealth pro back
I'm torn between Maxell and Stealth Pro. I mainly play multiplayer FPS games but also some single player games. Music and BlueTooth Phone calls are not important for me. My main concern With the Maxwell's are 2 things: First is Comfort because it's a 510+ grams headset. Second is imaging and footsteps sound. Any Help would be greatly appreciated my friend. I would tell you this, I bought Turtle beach 700 gen2 max and i was so disappointed, Comfort/Sound quality/Footsteps were very bad compared to my old 2011 Astro a40's. So that makes me worry about buying another Turtle beach headset.
I tried these two just after release. I sent the stealths back and kept the Maxwell. However I do miss them and so now I can get the wicked cushions, I will look to add them to my collection if they come down in any sales next year. They will come in handy when I want just that little more bass, although overall they are no where near as loud as the Maxwell
Thank you. The volume level is important. I have the Maxwells. They get loud. Looking for another pair on par with maxwell that are lighter. hearing the stealth dosent compare in volume. I will keep looking
I sent the Maxwells back , I wasn’t too impressed they do sound good, but the Stealth Pro’s are extremely loud they seam to just hit harder in my opinion definitely glad I went with these
Send the turtle beach back and got the Maxwell. Happy I made this decision. The sound is much more better when I watch my movies or play games. Turtle beach was good but idk I felt like I didn’t feel a wow that’s amazing like the Maxwells. I have used my mobius for years and the Maxwell seems like the second best option to that. Even my friends agree when hearing my mic on the Maxwell
I have my Turtle Beach Stealth Pros arriving tomorrow! The customization you can do to the headset with the app and the fact that it saves to the headset instantly and works on console is a huge win. Seems like the Maxwell is good for music listening with gaming as a secondary function. The turtle beaches are definitely your gaming headset. You gave the highest praise in your Tb standalone review when you said the headset made you go back to games and want to keep playing. If a headset makes you want to keep gaming then you found your headset
Sound is subjective and so is the UA-camr you watch. All in all, Maxwells have won every comparison apart from this particular video and thats mostly due to the app however needs setting up once at most. Enjoy your TBs
@@jasonbainbridge6196 im srry bro i misunderstood i got the arctis nova pro wired with gamedac but i just order the tb's lets see how they compared with the nova pro Wired.
I just ordered my Maxwells last night with an overnight delivery for tomorrow. I had the Arctis Pro Wireless but the right side went out so I ordered the Nova Pro Wireless. Less than 15 min. later, I saw a review on the Maxwells. I literally cancelled my Nova order and ordered the Audezes. I look foward to opening up my box tomorrow and gaming. Cant wait.
I have the maxwells for Xbox so adding to what you said, the Xbox version does work on the ps5 but for some odd reason, you have to connect it with dongle attached to the usb, you can’t just connect the dongle to usb c port on the ps5 but it’s no big deal because it still works
Oh my days where to go and what to do next... So I think to try the Planar Magnetics as you put it I'm going to sell my Steelseries Arctis 9X and buy the Audeze Penrose(2nd hand the are £80 to & £100) I'll get the jist of what you mean there once I've had that experience I'll see if I want it again or whether to go for the Turtle Beach... I honestly thought you would swing one way or the other here and give us a one headset race but these are so so good but in different ways that you had to say what you said... Watch this space and thanks for the hard work and commitment you give to us and your channel... Love it and keep them coming man... See you on the other side... You see what I did there??? Enjoy and Peace...
After so many months, are TB still the best pick for immersion in games? Also, how Maxwell sound when playing low quality compressed audio? And do you enjoy them on your neck? Thanks, great video!
I just ordered the Maxwell, my take away is they both seem fantastic and not far apart my decision came down to price as there is a $100 dollar difference here... I'll probably get the turtle beach when on a good sale, wouldn't mind owning both.
I rather go with the Maxwell's clear crisp Audio. Battery life 80+ hrs and the AI noise cancelling is lit. Only negative would be Bluetooth simulation.
These Audeze Maxwells are the best sounding Headphones that I have ever purchased. These absolutely kick the Artic Pro Wireless' ass. The sound from the Steel Series was above average at best. These Maxwells have so much detail and a clean delivery that I have enjoyed them for either gaming or listening to music (bass focused songs or not) on a much more enjoyable level than with the Steel Series. As for the Turtle Beach, I don't even care tbh. I'm enjoying these Audeze's so much I don't need anything else.
Yeah I agree the Maxwell's sound better but when it comes down to gaming and using the software I think that the pro or Nova pro beats them it has much better software and has a much much better spatial sound when it comes to FPS and shooters. So you may like the way they sound better but overall these are gaming headsets and when it comes to gaming they are about a seven out of 10 they're great but not the best both the turtle Beach and the Nova pros are better gaming headsets. And if I want to listen to good music headphones I'll listen to wired ones or I'll listen to my focal bathys that blow the Maxwell's out of the water for music
@@ozzy7455 I'm pretty sure the Maxwell's has comparable spatial audio when using EQ and DTS Surround. Also I don't really think the Focal Bathys are really comparable since they aren''t a "Gaming headset" and more than double the price.
Hey Techne, Great vId covering these headsets. I was very undecided on which to get after my Audeze Penrose have stopped outputting audio from the right earcup so need a new headset. After watching your videos covering both headsets I've decided to go for the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro's. I really enjoyed the Planar magnetic experience but the customisation on the Stealth pro's is just exceptional. I may go back to Audeze in the future, cos boy those Planar Magnetic Drivers are something else!
What do you guys think? I only console game on the PS5 (No computer gaming) I don't do alot of FPS either. I mostly play Story driven, Horror, Souls-like games, RPG & Adventure games. But I love the Boom of Explosions and Gunshots, ect.. Which do you guys think is better for all that?? Honestly, I'm just really excited for this video, & been waiting on this one bc These are the 2 headsets I'm torn between, and can't decide which to get?
I don’t think you would be mad either way, I’m leaning TB for the features and battery swapping. I love the maxwell battery life but that does NOT mean I wouldn’t forget to charge them and have a dead headset in the middle of a party chat session with buddies lol
@@R0NxBURGUNDY what's stopping you from forgetting to put the flat battery in the charger? ;) the reason to not buy the Maxwell's cause "you would forget to charge em'" is just a habit reason tbf :) BUT, the TB is nice with swapping batt's when need be ofc!

Hi I got the Maxwells, 2 things I wanted to know, you Recommended Treble Boost for Competitive Games! 1) Do you use Dolby Atmos on with Game Profile and Performance Mode Turned off? (Gadgetry Tech suggested this) 2) What Audio Setting do you use in COD while playing on PC for example PC Speaker or Home Theater? Thanks! 😅
Well it's a fortnight for me as Maxwell's owner. The only compare I can make is to sort this with Penrose by Audeze also. And that is a huge level up starting with their design and finding out that they can play (amazingly) for 3 days long whithout thinking of charging. The mic is cool and clear. The connection is stable for like 3 concrete walls through, so you can easely grab some beer from a fridge whithout putting them off and sill listen to what you were for. The soft is some kind of not good and it does not provide you the EQ settings (should be later?), but now it doesn't want your set to be connected via usb (PC) the connection status can be seen with that dongle they provide. Thou lol the power level is always not correct. Don't forget, that planar stuff is VERY FRAGILE, be carefull and don't admit stress to them. Let's see how they perfom on a long road. Now Maxwell's are the best
Everything seems great about the Turtle Beach but I don't like one thing about it it's the look it looks little bit more like a gamer headset then all the other headsets and personally I would prefer it to look like a regular headphones or like the steelseries and Maxwell look probably some people won't care about the looks but I kind of do care about the looks because I have a more minimalistic set up and that's why I was preferred a headphone type look
What I don not like nor appreciate about Turtle Beach is that they could have brought out significant and legit headphones a long time ago rather than being this gimmicky company for these past years. Now that there's competition, they want to actually focus on making legit headphones? Uhm, no they don't get my hard earned money. They've been selling trash "gaming" headphones for a long time to people who didn't know any better.
Absolutely loved your review on both of these headsets, so sad that the maxwells are 430 in Europe while the rest of the headsets like turtle beach and the steelseries hover around that 300 marker here. If it’s so close it can’t justify the 100+ euro/usd spike :(
I ordered the Maxwells about a week ago. The site seemed to show them as in stock and shipping within 3-5 days but I got an email a few days ago saying that they’re sorry about the delay and that my unit should be shipping in August, so some time next month. A bit of a bummer but I’m definitely willing to wait.
@@Gabytroya12 yea man, they’re great. And don’t let people talking about the weight scare you away from them. They’re definitely heavier than most headphones/headsets I’ve owned but they’re very comfortable. When I was watching reviews back when I was first considering buying them, every single reviewer seemed to make a big deal about the weight but it’s been overblown in my opinion. They’re fairly hefty but things that are well built often are. The sound, comfort, battery life and general build quality are all top notch. I don’t play online multiplayer games so I never use a mic. That’s the one thing I can’t really offer any opinion on. But aside from that, I’ve been using them for a couple of months and I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed by these headphones.
Awesome video, I'm debating between buying one of these 2 over the next few weeks. Coming from a Stealth 700 gen 2 max which has been great for the low price so I'm kinda leaning towards the Turtle Beach right now. This video really helped me a lot. @@starstatusvillarreal3747 Think I'm gonna go for the Stealth Pro, but I have heard the Planar drivers in the Maxwell are amazing. If steel series had Sonar for console they would run away from this competition with a trophy in hand. However, they do not this is why I came to this video to see what you had to say, I was very impressed with the review! I’m not a big fan of either of these honestly… I have a cheap PS5 headset, and I rock the Arctis Pro Wireless on PC. I’m excited to see what you have for viewers next once that embargo is lifted. Great video and thanks for doing what you do. Stay awesome Techne!
The pros were great for me and all but I hated sonar as it was very intrusive and always bugged out for me. The headset also broke at the hinge after 3 years of usage. I ordered the tb just to try something different!
@@corecase user error I guess. I haven’t had it bug out on me yet. I did kill off some of the sound devices it creates I only have game/chat on the output, and that helped with the bloat. I’m sorry you’ve come to the point of ordering turtle beaches big R.I.P. I’ve been through that stage it’s a tough lesson to learn on the wallet.
@TheTechne I watched a lot of your reviews and i'm still debating. My budget is around 400$ and i'm looking for the best WIRELESS gaming headset that works on both PS5 and Xbox series X. I mainly play FPS multiplayer games and some single player games, music and BT phone calls are irrelevant. I bought the Turtle beach 700 gen2 max and sent them back at the same day, i was very disappointed, sound quality, footsteps tracking and comfort are all really bad compared to my old wired Astro A40 headset that i bought back on 2011. I'm on a search for a higher quality headset. I was thinking about the Turtle beach Stealth pro and the Audeze maxwell. Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Amazing review as usual. I 100% agree with you when it comes to the app. I think they need to go back to the drawing board and make something that works for all there products. One issue I’ve had with the app is that you don’t know if what you picked got properly saved. I’ve had issues when I pick a preset I’ve had to go back an re do it cuz there’s no indication to say what I picked got saved. I recently started to use it on my Nintendo switch and idk it’s a hit or miss im not sure why.. is it cuz maybe my dongle needs to be plugged in as well???
Just a friendly question? Are the Maxwells capable of 32bit/192Khz Hi-Fi sound when wired? I know about Bluetooth with LDAC it's capped to 24bit/96Khz.
My Audeze Xbox version got pushed to June. I want a gaming headset and not a headphone sound. I cancelled the Audeze and went with the TB. Judging by this review and in my case, I made the right decision. 👍
I love my Maxwells no issues and I use it for PC/Playstation/Tablet/Iphone12promax so comfy after hours of play weight isnt really an issue for me. I also use competitively for counter-strike and warzone!
As this review strictly focused on gaming, I'm going to add a little hot sauce into the mix: music! I did compare both sets, and wow, are they both fantastic at gaming, each in its own right. You are spot on, the Stealth set is the more "one and done" deal here, albeit, for gaming only. However, if you do enjoy and truly appreciate music, of any type, the Max set has the Stealth beat, no holds barred. Music sings on the planar drivers. You FEEL it, close your eyes, and completely float away, into a blissful experience. There's just no comparison. Based on how well both work in games, there's no way I even hesitated to grab the Max set for myself and I don't regret it. The Maxwells also support more audio standards. Their batteries are rated higher and perform above their actual rating. Lastly, despite being heavier, I feel zero fatigue wearing them for hours at a time. No contest for me, it was a clear and easy choice. Now, I'll throw in another factor that may sway your choice, as it definitely reinforced mine - and this is the cherry on top - movies: WOW, does the Max set deliver an absolutely incredible watching experience. I have the Aurus 48" OLED monitor (DP out from my PC) at 120 Hertz refresh - watching movies on it, from time to time, is quite enjoyable. The Maxwells make it so much better. The app (also the Windows / Mac application) is not top notch, but that's just dev work - Audeze is continually working on improving that experience. I am sure that sooner or later it will match what Turtle Beach brings to the fight here. Yet, out of the box, the Max set sounds perfect without tweaking the EQ (which is still doable - it's not like the software doesn't support it). By the way, I have yet to feel ANY sweat on my head, around my ears, or on the headset itself, even after hours of use. Maxwell has my love in this case. [A quick edit - something that came to mind, after listening to more music - I am hearing and discovering sounds and subtleties in music which I've been listening to for ages, that I've never heard before. It's unbelievable how much I've been missing out on. The detail that this Max set offers, the Stealth cannot touch. Try the Maxwells if you have the means. You will fall in love with the same pieces of music again and again. Stunning.]
Both of these headphones may sound good, but only thing that really spoils them is pleather. As the pleather is exposed to sweat, the pleather deteriorates and peels off, on the ear cups and headband on the turtle beaches, I assume the pleather on the Audeze will do the same on the ear cups. You maybe pay premium prices, but if the material they use deteriorates, what is the point, especially if you can't but replacement parts
Right you are. The first thing I do with pleather headphones is replace it with Wicked Cushions or something similar, and cover their headband with a cloth cover. That pleather is downright nasty - it quickly heats up, it peels off, why even use it? Just for a slightly better sound seal?
Great video, subscribed. Which out of the maxwells or stealth pros have the widest soundstage? I’m looking for the widest soundstage for pubg for positional sound. I only play fps games but mostly pubg at the moment.
I'm genuinely shocked he didn't say the maxwell mic was better straight up. The stealth pros mic sounded like he was far away. I had noise suppression low and aside form the plosives it made my wife think I was using my standalone mic. Its not common to have this kind of sound when in game chats but it is an overall better mic quality. Almost sounds like a podcast mic IMO. I'm gonna have to stream and play it back to be sure I'm not crazy.
Personally "today" I'm using a HiFiMan XS Edition Planar headphones and a Rode NT-MINI because it's short and fits perfectly on my table between my keyboard and monitor. However, for years I've been looking at wireless solutions and they either end up to my kids PC or returned. I can tell you this "IF" you're in a quiet area then there's no way I would want closed back headphones. If I can find something that acts like a wall hack better than what I have now, is more comfortable, and doesn't cost over $1K .. Let me know!
For someone who primarily plays fps shooters and footsteps are actually very important to me which woods you recommend. Which are best directionally and most accurate.
Love the videos man! Very informative! I just ordered the maxwell headset. I'm using the astro a40 mixamp pro tr at the moment. Footsteps are ehh ok here and there. Between the these 2 you think that the maxwells will pinpoint the footsteps better than the stealth pros? Thanks in advance!
Really digging this trend of headset companies making gaming headsets that could easily double as a normal pair of headphones out in public. Yeah they are pricey, but they are probably cheaper than buying the two things separately. They just gotta refine the formula over the next couple years and it will be a really solid market
I really trust & love your reviews. I have the Penrose and its great but I feel like the sound imaging for FPS on it is not that great in games like Battlefield or MWII. To get the best sound imaging for FPS should I go with: - The Stealth Pro ? - The Audeze Maxuel ?
To elaborate more, I owned the Steel Series Arctis Pro wireless for the PS4 before ( based on your review as well) and I could absolutely pinpoint the distance and the floor where enemies where on Battlefield 1 for example. While the Penrose blows the Arctis Pro out of the water when it comes to sound sharpness, detail and quality, i’m not sure it does the same job at pin pointing enemies in MWII. Then again, the sound design for each game is different of course!
I own the Audeze Penrose and Maxwell. I tried every head set prior to getting the penrose, than maxwell when it released. None compared in sound quality and build quality. AMAZON and bestbuy black listed me because i was returning headsets so much. Audeze does have comfort and irritating, minor connection issues but sound is awesome.
I would like to see a video on your most underrated headset. Kind of like the headset that doesn't get the credit it deserves. Could do it by brand then a overall king
Maxwells all the way. Best in class speakers for gaming AND music/movies. Mic can completely hide the sound of a CHAINSAW. 80+ HOUR BATTERY LIFE. No other headset at this price point can do any of these things.
Think you have to keep in mind that he wouldn’t have gone with the stealths if he didn’t have the higher end Audeze headsets available to him as well though.
I currently have the Corsair HS80. I also have several audiophile (mid to low end) headphones. The fidelity of the HS80 is "good enough" in my opinion. The biggest pain point for me is the sidetone. You can barely hear yourself when talking. I had originally purchased it because I play Virtual Table Top RPG's online with my friends. So, there is a huge communication aspect involved. My hopes was to combine the fidelity of the audiophile headphones with the mic of the HS80 but with better sidetone. Is the Maxwell worth the upgrade?
I have Maxwells and stealth pros right now. The Maxwell may sound just a bit better, but the stealth pros really hit all the boxes. Great sound, great app, great features, etc. And I've always thought turtle beach sucked.
I've had a few headsets. The Sennheiser PC350, Razer Blackshark, Audeze Penrose, EPOS H3Pro Hybrid, and now the Maxwells. They are (or were.... Gave the Blackshark away, Penrose broke) all good cans in their own right. But the Penrose and Maxwell stood out above the rest.
@@j_dun4830 I had the Penrose. It broke, and I was given a trade-up offer from the distributor which I took. So they took my broken Penrose back, and gave me $100 off the Maxwell. Sonically they sound about the same. But the build quality of the Maxwell is way above the Penrose, or any of the other plastic gaming headsets, like the Arctis Nova Pros, or the EPOS'es, or the Razers, etc etc. The comfort is also better than the Penrose. The mic is also way better than the Penrose.
For anyone worried or on the fence about the maxwell and it’s size. I have a fairly tall and big head, 7 3/4 hat. They fit me perfect on the middle setting of the strap. I was worried it might be to heavy, I don’t find it any heavier than any other high quality headset. I use WC freeze pads and the headset is insanely comfortable. It doesn’t feel heavy at all when holding it, just well built. I do have a pretty strong linebacker type neck but I can’t imagine it being too much for someone smaller. It honestly doesn’t feel “heavy” to me at all. Remember these weights are in grams so even a bigger number still isn’t heavy. It will feel heavier if you’re used to all plastic headsets but to me it just feels solid and well built. Should fit any head very comfortably and I played for 7 hours straight with no weight or neck issues. Hope this helps
I just got Maxwell's as well and laughed when playing for hours with zero issue on weight. Reviewers make it sound like they are a ton, but in reality the weight is nothing. People complaining about the weight are just wusses.
Own both of these headsets and the Nova Pro wireless.... Nova Pros are good but they are 3rd on my list now. Stealth Pros are vastly better than the 700 gen 2 IMO. Maxwell>Stealth Pro>Nova Pro wireless
@Loaded Gull (LoadedGull) The sound on the Maxwell is amazing 👏 however it for FPS it doesn't do very well. If you don't play FPS I'd say the Maxwell is the winner. Battery life is insane and it is definitely the loudest. For FPS and great sound/comfort the stealth pro would be my pick.
@joesipr the TB are about the same as the Nova Pros with volume levels.....the Maxwells are by far the loudest headset. Love them both....loved the Nova Pros just wish I didn't have the mic issue on the PS5
Techne , you mentioned in the past you play Destiny. I only play Destiny 2 on PlayStation 5, which headset or other headset your recommend for a D2 player? Thanks and love your videos❤!
Same boat here! Live and breath Destiny 2 but then the odd occasional war zone /cod matches few times a year! I’m thinking it’ll be the Maxwell, but I’m still undecided!
Been waiting for 4 weeks for my Maxwells in the UK and starting to get inpatient. I'm coming from steel series wireless pro but from your video I can't wrong with either headset, but the nerd in me loves the TB app and audiophile in me wants to experience those Planar drivers. Thank you for the video. When are you going to team up with Wicked Cushion and make your own design cause I will buy them👌👌
I just bought the Maxwell's and they are far better than every gaming headset I've tried. As for footsteps in FPS games, I play a ton of warzone and the Maxwell's in competition mode are great. You can EQ them to bring out footsteps even better. Turtle beaches tend to be cheaply made, although I have not tried this model. I think the footsteps may stand out but it is at the cost of a good sounding mix. I had Steelseries and Astro a 50's and although the steelseries had better footstep imaging, they sounded too bright and gave me a headache. The Maxwell's are just better tuned headset and to me that is way better value than just footsteps...
Did you get to try the Stealth pro? I'm torn between Maxell and Stealth Pro. I mainly play multiplayer FPS games but also some single player games. Music and BlueTooth Phone calls are not important for me. My main concern With the Maxwell's are 2 things: First is Comfort because it's a 510+ grams headset. Second is imaging and footsteps sound.
@eviarada the maxwell is far better sounding headset. I don't find the weight an issue at all and I got the wicked cushions and they are comfortable. As for footsteps I don't have any problem hearing footsteps and am using the footstep preset which seems tuned for cod. The turtle beaches might be 10% better for imaging but again it is at the cost of sound quality. The planar magnetic drivers in the maxwell puts it in a different league for sound quality imo. Maxwell also legit have 80 hour battery life which is nuts. I charge headset like once a month.
Thank you for your help. Buying wicked cushions is a must for Maxwells? I'm afraid the leather pads gonna generate a lot of hear and sweat. @@Dopamine666
Hellow . I want to change m'y headset but : i have audeze penrose . For you what IS best headset for ps5 ? Steelseries ? Audeze maxwell? Or turtlebeach ? Sea thx for Reading me
If your planning on buying the Maxwells for the PS5, a quick update…Just read today that the new PS5 beta firmware update will include support for Dolby Atmos! So you may wanna spend the extra $50 bucks for the XBox version? A little buyer beware😀
How have they been for you? I've read numerous reddit pages and ig comment sections of the drivers having issues. Either going dead or a crinkle sound or the diaphragm rupturing. Trying to decide on a one of these two or wait for the Sony Pulse Elite with Planar Drivers in them.
Ah yes this what I was looking for! Only thing that makes me want the turtle beach over the audeze maxwell is that I can take the batteries out and replace them easy if they go bad. The Xbox Version also works on ps 4 and ps 5. I am guessing you can't take the batteries out on the audeze maxwell and it only Xbox or Playstation not both?
Another great comparison my man, keep up the great work I personally didn’t like the imaging on the Penrose and I believe the Maxwell has the same drivers, but just tuned differently. I think Audeze headsets prioritise music performance and then gaming I have the SteelSeries Nova 7 Wireless and I think it’s great. It has very accurate bass and mids, treble also good and imaging really good. It actually has more accurate frequency than the Nova Pro Wireless However, I’ve now decided to go back to wired as I’m mostly gaming at my gaming desk now and I’m using my old Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 with the super amp on my PS5. It’s literally fat and night difference between wired and wireless. Just to compare and test, I tried to use my Nova 7 Wireless again and I was shocked how the detail and imaging was mediocre compared to the Elite Pro 2 One thing I have to disagree with @The Techne is about the superhuman hearing. Superhuman hearing isn’t a surround sound feature, it’s literally a feature where once you turn it on, it concentrates on those frequencies for footsteps and that’s why it reduces the bass. I’ve not used the Stealth Pro, but I have used literally every other Turtle Beach headset in the and in my opinion and to my hearing, Elite Pro 2 is the only Turtle Beach headset the superhuman actually works really well and makes a positive difference in FPS games I actually tried one of my old Sennheiser headsets the Sennheiser GSP 300 with the Turtle Beach super amp and superhuman hearing and wow it’s literally awesome, but I didn’t like the superhuman hearing on the Stealth 700 Gen 2 and all other previous Turtle Beach headsets
@@Daniel189HLL Ok fair enough, thank you. Do you have the Maxwell? I’ve used the Penrose, LCD and other Audeze headphones and to my hearing while they’re amazing and have super clean sound, I didn’t find them to be great for imaging. I don’t really care about sound quality for gaming as long as it sounds good enough. For me it’s about positional audio and how well the imaging is on a headset
@@famezy9103 not yet but I want premium sound quality. I've had epos gsp 602 and currently have Sennheiser 599 with wireless modmic but want to go wireless. If the maxwell aren't as good for imaging as my Sennheiser then I'll keep them but I expect them to be superior tbf. I'm not a cod player, only a hell let loose clan player and footsteps are important for sure but not the main reason I buy headphones 😊
Said this more than once , just watching your reviews makes me want to buy stuff 😂 another great vid . Are these a big step up from the Steelseries arctic pro wired with dac ?
Is it just me, or does Turtle Beach keep making their headsets bigger and bulkier each year? While this new model is impressive, especially with its switchable batteries that ensure you never run out of power, it’s not ideal for traveling. I do a lot of traveling, and I find this headset uncomfortable to wear in public. For gaming, it performs exceptionally well, but it can feel a bit heavy on your head. On the other hand, I purchased the Logitech Astro A30 for gaming and travel, and it’s a game-changer with over 27 hours of battery life. It’s significantly smaller, offers great bass, and looks much more presentable for public wear. As much as I appreciate Turtle Beach, I have to hand this one to Logitech for its comfort and easily removable ear pads. I doubt that we’re ever going to see a headset that is as good as the A30 when comes to nice detailed looks when in public.
awesome review. I have the Penrose headset (with the upgrades, per your recommendation) for quite some time now. I am thinking this time around im going to try the Stealth Pro's. Appreciate the comparison
@@Serbuprofen hi there, yes i bought 2 weeks ago. really liking it alot. great sound and mic. and specially if switching between, pc, laptop and xbox. it is so easy with the plug and play.
Do these wireless headsets have the “hiss” that I often hear in Logitech/steelseries wireless headsets? It’s almost like a low white noise. I’m very sensitive to that kind of stuff and it turned me off of using wireless.
A bit off topic but have you been having chat volume issues with the turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 max? I have the second wheel programed to control party chat volume but it doesn't actually do anything when I move it. If you've had this problem, do you of any methods to fix it? I have the Xbox version and I'm using it on the series x. At the time of writing there were no firmware updates available. By the way I love your videos bro.

How is the loudness volume on the Audeeze?
@@Eddienet for me, super loud. Still loving them with zero issues fps and movies/music. Footsteps with them is amazing!
I currently have the Audeze Penrose …. Not sure if you have/had these to compare the Penrose to Maxwell and your opinion on the gsm8n* sound?

@Daniel Anderson very easy, just plug in the mic and you’re good to go! Plus you have options for noise reduction w/ the mic.

You can save Presets with EQ on the Maxwell too, next week even with the PC software available :)
Sound is subjective and so is the UA-camr you watch. All in all, Maxwells have won every comparison apart from this particular video and thats mostly due to the app however needs setting up once at most. Enjoy your TBs

I may go back to Audeze in the future, cos boy those Planar Magnetic Drivers are something else!

Hi
I got the Maxwells,
2 things I wanted to know, you Recommended Treble Boost for Competitive Games!
1) Do you use Dolby Atmos on with Game Profile and Performance Mode Turned off? (Gadgetry Tech suggested this)
2) What Audio Setting do you use in COD while playing on PC for example PC Speaker or Home Theater?
Thanks!
Your reviews are awesome. Thank you. I don't like putting any software on my phone, makes you a Target for email marketing
thank you
Everything seems great about the Turtle Beach but I don't like one thing about it it's the look it looks little bit more like a gamer headset then all the other headsets and personally I would prefer it to look like a regular headphones or like the steelseries and Maxwell look probably some people won't care about the looks but I kind of do care about the looks because I have a more minimalistic set up and that's why I was preferred a headphone type look

Amazing review as usual. I 100% agree with you when it comes to the app. I think they need to go back to the drawing board and make something that works for all there products. One issue I’ve had with the app is that you don’t know if what you picked got properly saved. Stunning.]
No simultaneous audio for a 300$+ headset is a no go.
Turtles all the way.
I am torn on the Maxwell and turtle beach only on ps5 not fussed on Bluetooth for phone connection
honestly I want the Maxwell's I love my LCD 2's and am wanting a good pair of wireless headphones and I love Audeze anyway.
Great video, subscribed. Which out of the maxwells or stealth pros have the widest soundstage? I’m looking for the widest soundstage for pubg for positional sound. I only play fps games but mostly pubg at the moment.
Did you end up buying the Maxwell's buddy?
which one did you keep for hearing footsteps?
Can you get better audio from headphones for the same price as the maxwells?
Been waiting for 2 months to be only told today and there is no ETA for PlayStation 😢😢

To get the best sound imaging for FPS should I go with:
- The Stealth Pro ?
How do these Turtle beaches stack up against Hyper X Alpha S? Worth the up grade?
Maxwells all the way. Best in class speakers for gaming AND music/movies. Mic can completely hide the sound of a CHAINSAW. 80+ HOUR BATTERY LIFE. No other headset at this price point can do any of these things.
Wow I’m shocked you went with the turtle beach…. I know how much you love Audeze. Maybe I have to give these a shot
Think you have to keep in mind that he wouldn’t have gone with the stealths if he didn’t have the higher end Audeze headsets available to him as well though.
The TB Stealth Pros are 100% made for gamers who plan too use these more for gaming, if you’re more of a audiophile than the maxwells are for you.

I've had a few headsets. The Sennheiser PC350, Razer Blackshark, Audeze Penrose, EPOS H3Pro Hybrid, and now the Maxwells.
They are (or were.... Gave the Blackshark away, Penrose broke) all good cans in their own right. But the Penrose and Maxwell stood out above the rest.

Sonically they sound about the same.

Yeah, I wear mine all day and they do NOT bother me at all.

Sea thx for Reading me
It's so sad that the maxwell is not available in Europe and that for weeks
If your planning on buying the Maxwells for the PS5, a quick update…Just read today that the new PS5 beta firmware update will include support for Dolby Atmos! So you may wanna spend the extra $50 bucks for the XBox version? A little buyer beware😀
How have they been for you? I've read numerous reddit pages and ig comment sections of the drivers having issues. Either going dead or a crinkle sound or the diaphragm rupturing. Trying to decide on a one of these two or wait for the Sony Pulse Elite with Planar Drivers in them.
@@chasen432 Best headset I have ever owned! Have waned high end Steel Series, Turtle Beach, and Corsair…They blow them out of the water
Wanting to get them for ps5 plz give me the details!!!
Another great comparison my man, keep up the great work
I personally didn’t like the imaging on the Penrose and I believe the Maxwell has the same drivers, but just tuned differently. I think Audeze headsets prioritise music performance and then gaming
I have the SteelSeries Nova 7 Wireless and I think it’s great. It has very accurate bass and mids, treble also good and imaging really good. It actually has more accurate frequency than the Nova Pro Wireless
However, I’ve now decided to go back to wired as I’m mostly gaming at my gaming desk now and I’m using my old Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 with the super amp on my PS5. It’s literally fat and night difference between wired and wireless. Just to compare and test, I tried to use my Nova 7 Wireless again and I was shocked how the detail and imaging was mediocre compared to the Elite Pro 2
One thing I have to disagree with @The Techne is about the superhuman hearing. Superhuman hearing isn’t a surround sound feature, it’s literally a feature where once you turn it on, it concentrates on those frequencies for footsteps and that’s why it reduces the bass. I’ve not used the Stealth Pro, but I have used literally every other Turtle Beach headset in the and in my opinion and to my hearing, Elite Pro 2 is the only Turtle Beach headset the superhuman actually works really well and makes a positive difference in FPS games
I actually tried one of my old Sennheiser headsets the Sennheiser GSP 300 with the Turtle Beach super amp and superhuman hearing and wow it’s literally awesome, but I didn’t like the superhuman hearing on the Stealth 700 Gen 2 and all other previous Turtle Beach headsets
They're different drivers, new 90mm ones
@@Daniel189HLL Sounds like a plan. If footsteps audio isn’t important to you, then definitely going for something with pure sound quality is the way
Footsteps are my top concern! Would you think Stealth Pro is the best option out there? Ps5
Appreciate the comparison
have you tried turtle beach yet?
@@Serbuprofen hi there, yes i bought 2 weeks ago. really liking it alot. great sound and mic. and specially if switching between, pc, laptop and xbox. it is so easy with the plug and play.
@@Omi-7k And where the sound is better and if it plays games what is the positioning
Very detailed reviews that cover points of interest that no one else seems to talk about. One of the best if not the very best tech reviewer on the internet. Can't trust the online journalist sites for reviews these days.
Edit: typos.
I have dude, I’m torn between these two headsets. Mainly bc I’ve been turned off of TB due to this very issue. I’m leaning towards maxwell but then again these new TB’s are getting a lot of praise. No idea what I’m gonna do!
Can’t beat planar magnetic drivers … it’s just more natural
It’s all subjective though
@@DarkwingShadow LOOOOOL. Sound is subjective but Planar magnetic drivers are proven to be better and hold better reviews as a standard.
@@jasonbainbridge6196 well no shit, Sherlock. I clearly didn’t know that 👏🏾😅
@@DarkwingShadow But you said it's subjective genius
@@jasonbainbridge6196 yeah, meaning that just because it’s proven to be better may not be the same to every single person out there. I’ve tried them, they’re great and I’ve seen where other consumers didn’t like them so much
what is the difference betwen headphones turtle beach stealth 700 gen 2 vs turtle beach stealth Pro for Games?
I've now had both ..the maxwells are boss imo ..
No simultaneous audio sucks
