I've been asked about the custom pads on the Maxwell quite a bit! They are new pads from Wicked Cushions but are not available for at least another month. I am just doing long term testing for the owner to share my thoughts on comfort and sound quality. Once they are close to being available I'll make an announcement video and show the sound quality impact/comfort for the final revision. Thanks!

Do you play FPS? ->Stealth pros, youll make more use of the tech, and if you listen to music, just EQ it. It good enough for me.
Music, but some video games once in a minute? Maxwells
But yeah, I bough the Razer blackshark v2 pros after my Astro A50's batteries started getting slightly questionable, then I bough the Stealth Pros right after.
Stealth Pros are literally Blackshark V2 Pros + The Astros in one headset, with a good overall balance.
I use the buttons on the blacksharks a little more and find them more useful, but the Stealth Pros are good enough for me not to worry about it.
I primarily like surround audio/spatial/directional audio for games and music is cool but I don't get too audiphilistic unless its Metal music, which something like the Blacksharks excel in with their Titanium drivers, but really the stealth pros have even smoother drivers that still hit the mids and the highs but not too too overpowered lows like the Astros.
The astros are bass heavy and it washes the fuck out of the mids and the highs especially.
I think the stealth pros for sure are a good actual clear balance of low, mid and high and nothing is too overpowered. The best balanced headset I have had yet.
The leather is actually more comfortable than I would have ever imagined.

@@sasquatchcrewbro I play R6 and right now I have Steelseries arctis pro wireless headset but I want to buy new head and I’m confused which headsets in the market is the best one.
Is stealth pro the best headset in the market for fps and competitive games?
I mean if I buy it can I hear every little sounds in the game or not?
Also, my Steelseries has a little bug and that’s when someone is coming from behind me it is like he is in front of me and I die. The other example is when I’m standing between first floor and second floor stairs and someone coming from first floor the sound is like the guy is coming from above😕.
Is the stealth pro giving me exact footsteps sound of the enemies?

Two things I dislike about the Maxwell are lack of support for simultaneous Bluetooth/wireless dongle playback and weight distribution. I would love to have it mix the two with some custom configuration. I don't think the total weight of the headphones are so much of the problem as is how secure they are on my head. I have to constantly compensate for forward/backward motion as the Maxwell's tend to want to fly off. I can't just casually jump on a couch or lean back/forward without carefully doing so. I tend to reach up to hold them also. Love how Audeze is rocking the gaming headphone industry though.

Perfect comparison. I just want to help out PS5 players out there. The Nova Pro was pretty bad when enabling 3D Tempest as it made game audio sound like the poor spatial audio you get in phone speakers. I couldn't pinpoint any footsteps in Cod as they were coming from everywhere. The Turtle 700 Max was much better for this reason and I returned the Nova immediately. Also the Nova has shit mic. The 700 MAX Gen2 had connectivity issues sporadically at my environment and I had to return it when I saw the announcement of the Stealth Pro which is now on the way.

For music I have HD650's on a Xonar Essence STX soundcard so I'm purely looking at something for better FPS positioning.

I'll get them tomorrow with a set of WC Freeze pads and I'm sure I'll love them. I've kinda moved away from the hardcore FPS gaming and more towards more casual and laid back games like Age of Conan and Division 2(also a sucker for a good RPG). Astro build quality in general is subpar, I have old A40 that its headband broke, and A50 which is fine but I can feel the not so great build quality. For the PS5 I went with the maxwell and I was impressed with it and the quality, I'm coming from more "hifi" setup in my PC with HIFIMAN edition Xs and schiit bifrost+jotunheim for DAC+AMP. And you get really good sound from the Maxwell for what it is (wireless gaming headset). It's bit heavy, but since it's comfortable it is not that of a problem.

I tried them and was fantastic sounding, however for most games I was cranking them upto max volume on ps5, except cod, weirdly that game was overall louder and had to turn them down. I am going to try the Maxwell and then decide to together keep them or re-order the stealths and put up with the volume limit. At the moment I am back to the novas, which are awesome for FPS games, just boring as hell for any story based games where you want a fun sound! the stealth was fun, just limited volume as I have always found with Turtlebeach, not sure why.

I’ve been using my Blackshark V2 Pro’s for a few years now and figured it was time for an upgrade. I was looking for something that would be a big step up for gaming at home and would also be great for listening to music, whether I’m just hanging at home or traveling. Sound quality, connectivity, build quality and battery life are all very important for my specific use case and I think the Maxwells will be a perfect fit. Just wanted to give some positive feedback. Based on this video and a few others you have in the library, I first was able to purchase a Nova 7 wireless headset through my Employee Rewards points I had saved over the last couple years and only ended up paying an extra $20 for them. I would say I enjoyed the sound quite a bit as far as gaming but only mediocre when it came to music. I absolutely hated the way they fit my slightly larger than average head. When I leaned forward, they would try to slide off. So I ended up giving those to my son.
I then immediately jumped in my car and drove to Best Buy and purchased the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro. Funny story, the store rep actually tried to talk me into the A50's and I just laughed and said no thank you. Got the Stealth Pro headset home and have been enjoying them ever since. I put the EQ tune you have in a couple of your videos for the CoD footsteps and also the other one I assume is for music. Then I just raise the bass boost 4 notches and I am more than happy with the sound. I was surprised at the vocal clarity these produce. I thought I would hate the battery life but I switch out the battery before I go to bed and the fresh battery lasts me whole next day and switch again. And the sound I get inside CoD without using Dolby Atmos, just the EQ, is crazy good.
Thanks for your detailed reviews and deep dives. Otherwise I would have never shelled out $329.00 for the Stealth Pro's and would have missed all this great audio.

@@raylopez1583 No it didn't unfortunately. Every day that passed, the delivery date would also shift 1 day. I called them and they confirmed that the shipment isn't coming in until May 28th. That corresponds with the reddit post from Audeze stating that all early April orders will be fulfilled by the end of May.
I don't play competitive fps right now, so I probably couldn't answer your question from that point of view. Currently using Astro A50 gen3 and their performance is pretty bad in terms of audio. The Maxwell will fit my needs because I prefer audio quality over footsteps and stuff. I'm only worried about the fit, since I don't have a big head and the adjustability of the head strap is very minimal.

I bought the Maxwells as my first high end headphones, thanks to your review and comparison. I love them. They are very comfortable on my noggin, especially since I wear them all day. I use them both on the PS5 and PC, the latter via BT dongle. The build quality is amazing, no creaks or snapping sounds I had with previous headphones, including Sony WH models. The passive noise cancelling is enough for me to not be bothered by my partner's TV watching, but I can still hear when she wants to talk to me. I use the immersive preset for open world games, such as Horizon Forbidden West, and I love the sound. I can almost hear the dust blowing across the landscape haha. I don't play FPS so don't care about footsteps.

For anyone worried or on the fence about the maxwell and it’s size. I have a fairly tall and big head, 7 3/4 hat. They fit me perfect on the middle setting of the strap. I was worried it might be to heavy, I don’t find it any heavier than any other high quality headset. I use WC freeze pads and the headset is insanely comfortable. It doesn’t feel heavy at all when holding it, just well built. I do have a pretty strong linebacker type neck but I can’t imagine it being too much for someone smaller. It honestly doesn’t feel “heavy” to me at all. Remember these weights are in grams so even a bigger number still isn’t heavy. It will feel heavier if you’re used to all plastic headsets but to me it just feels solid and well built. Should fit any head very comfortably and I played for 7 hours straight with no weight or neck issues. Hope this helps

I think it's super interesting, the only headsets i ever used and owned are Lucid Sound LS35, really love them for my use, console gaming only, but they been falling apart for over a year, headband is torn at the seam, both earpads torn an pealing fabric from the seam, being held by packaging tape, really thought about replacement pads, i also love the fact that they come stock with the cooling gel pads in the first pace, but i also want to venture out and explore new headsets, i had Lucid Sound since the LS35's came out, i thought about the LS50's. I researched a TON of brands to mostly rule them out for want i don't want and what i do want and also design flaws and common problems people have with all these headsets, the super interesting thing is that at the end of all the research is that my decision came down to the Audeze Maxwells and Turtle Beach Stealth Pro, even though it doesn't have voice/chat mixers, very disappointing, i'm still leaning towards those, because i like everything else about them, mostly because the headset itself doesn't get charged, only the battery, very strange winning facture, i know, but it's very convenient

In my opinion/observation of the video - Microphone Quality Nova Pro (I own) is focused and sounds a bit "pilot audio" like, as in you can tell that it's coming from a sound-deadening device mic. The TB-Stealth Pro (sounded the most natural) blocked everything out equally IMHO (looking to buy this one possibly instead of another Nova-Pro), and the Maxwell has this "buzzy mid-tone" to your voice the others don't have. When you talk almost like you can tell something digital is filtering out some part of your voice along with the noise.
Personal note on your review on the ANC to pair with what I observed hearing (on a Nova Pro turned way up on a fresh battery) I felt like the noise-cancelling was INSANE on the maxwell, I felt like the Turtle Beach and the Nova Pro were very similar, but a note from someone who regularly puts in 12 hours days on his headsets the Nova-Pro ANC dies off at some point as the battery percent gets lower. (You don't notice it until you put a fresh battery in, and realize how much more the dampening is when the fresh battery is loaded in)
Final note - I don't "customize" and "fully leverage" my headsets. I stick to a vanilla setup, I don't read the user-manual, I don't tweak the gaming software, and I don't do more than the 1-button press or long-button press options on any headset. My experience is mine alone YMMV depending on how much of the "learning and setup" you dive into... I just don't, anymore.
I'm still impressed with you wearing any headphone down to the point the anc-bump is bothering your ear! I haven't managed to do that in ~2 yrs. on the base leatherette pads so IDK man... holy crap that's insane usage! Also, great video... your review and using the mics definitely lead me to believing it's a valid choice/option to give the TB's a go! Much appreciated!

I have the Nova pros, Penrose x, just ordered the Maxwells, Astro A40s ( most comfortable gaming headphones I own), LS50x, the arctis 9x, and Astro A30’s. The Novas & LS50x have the best functionality for wireless in my experience, but the A30’s aren’t bad either in this regard. For music surprisingly The A30’s are really good at least for me because I like a lot of bass but not muddy, the novas are okay I don’t turn them all the way up as it starts to get distorted at high volumes it seems; same goes for the LS50’s, And my Penrose sound pretty good but nothing too crazy. Gaming wise tho, my Penrose really sound amazing this is with me leaving the base flat and just adjusting it through Dolby atmos. The Nova pro is great, but it can’t handle complex situations as well as my Penrose but this varies from game to game, my A30s sound amazing on my PS5, but the 5 band EQ on the app keeps me from dialing it in further they also sound pretty ass with Sonys 3D audio no matter how you tune the EQ. My A40s sound pretty good, while they don’t keep up with my Penrose they still sound great to my ears an EQ tuning. The LS50’s just….don’t sound that great I’ve tried every tune imaginable to get them to sound how i’d like but I just can’t seem to get them there, but like I said, I love the functionality of them. 9x still sound decent but they’re old af and they sound no where near as good as the novas.

Not a lot of stealth pro comments on here. I think the volume wheel is pretty bad, and the buttons are very hard to find with your fingers alone. But, a very big but: the Bluetooth connection is solid to the phone, and the phone app you can leave open while you're gaming to access all the controls even more easily. without that app, I don't think I could keep them. But I also can't choose a headset without an app now that I have one. It's absolutely essential. I also like that the base station doubles for the mute status of the headset, which can be optional, if you want to hide it in a cabinet. Clamping force is also a bit much, but maybe that'll break in a little.

I currently use the Corsair virtuoso XT’s which I am happy with but I mainly bought them because of how good the mic quality is. Now I’m purely focused on FPS sound quality I’m hoping the stealth pro’s are a better option than the XT’s. In terms of music and all other media options I just use my Sony XM4’s which I think are fantastic so won’t be replacing those anytime soon. If anyone had any additional info that would be amazing! But I think it’s the stealth pros for me

Good and useful comparative review. I am in yhe category of audiophile, so no gaming is prioritized. The 2 most mentioned issues commonly talked about are listening fatigue and long use comfort. I'm glad you pointed them out.
I'm still waiting for the new product from Edifier that would enter the gaming category since Edifier bought STAX. Bring the most accurate sounding headphone producer, STAX uses electro-static drivers and that would be superior compared to Plannar Magnetic. Can't wait

Honestly my heart was already set on the Maxwell. Hearing how it stacks up against others I'm still content to go with it. I've no intention to get competitive with FPS so that flaw is out the window.

It's interesting because I've seen a different review where someone said the Maxwells blew the Nova Pro out of the water when it comes to pin point accuracy. Here it's the other way around. Goes to show how different people will experience the same product.

@@BlazingsNL I’ve heard the same, but yeah hearing is subjective. I really understand what good audio is as I’ve been around it for over 25 years, but when gaming I don’t really care about the sound quality as long as it sounds good enough. As I mostly play FPS games, I literally only care about how well the imaging is on a headset. I’ve recently gone back to using my wired Turtle Beach Elite Pro 2 and I can honestly say that once you use a good wired setup, wireless won’t sound good. I tried to go back to my SteelSeries Nova 7 as I love it so much, but then I realised I no longer need it, because the details and imaging I get from the Elite Pro 2 destroys the Nova 7 even though the Nova 7 has really good imaging

@@famezy9103 I see what you mean. Personally I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD598 about 10 years ago and I considered it to be a very expensive pair of headphones. As I started gaming with friends online more, I wanted to get rid of my shitty aux mic but not add another thing with wires. So I got the wireless Astro A50 6 years ago.
Those have been kinda underwhelming since the start and I figured it's time to replace them. Having a wireless headset is great in terms of being able to move around and get a drink while still being able to talk/hear. Seeing as how every review of the Maxwells I've seen so far is very positive about the sound stage and the mic, I went for that one. The Sennheiser will probably stay as my light weight chill headset and the Maxwells for immersion during gaming/movies. I don't really play competitive games so having clear footsteps and all that isn't a high priority.

I play alot of fps, but also have to use simultaneous Bluetooth. Really wanted the maxwell but went with nova pro due to that. It's definitely insane for spatial, fps and sound accuracy.... still disappointed because I wanted the full audio experience audeze brings, for rpgs.... would never buy turtle beach.... also, despite video, novas mostly dropped 50 dollars.

@@BlazingsNL If footsteps isn’t important to you then yeah 100% I would say always go for a headset that would overall give you the best sound quality. I love Sennheiser headphones and one of my favourite headsets is also the Sennheiser GSP 300. You can pick it up for about £60 these days (original price £100) and it literally is an amazing headset for gaming and music and it has really good imaging and decent soundstage too. See the thing is, a lot of people think higher the price better the headset, but that’s totally wrong and it all depends on the headset you want. For example, you mentioned the Astro A50. I tried the latest A50 Gen 4 which is £300 and I didn’t really like the sound that much, but the Astro A20 Gen 2 which is only £100 literally has a better sound profile, it’s louder to my hearing and has equal imaging and I can only think that Astro accidentally developed a perfect headset without realising and priced it cheap as it’s their entry level wireless headset

My Maxwells are my current jam. I just can't get over how pure they sound and I honestly don't think some headsets can offer enough bells and whistles to beat what the Maxwell can do, in just sound. I feel that's my wireless endgame. At some point I'll reach my wired endgame and snag the HD800s but will need to consider a better amp for my PS5 if my Hel2 isn't up to snuff. For now, the VZR is till my wired main. Oh, and rocking some Wicked Cushions on the Maxwell, I see!! How are they??

I want the Maxwells for their sound quality really badly, but think I'm gonna go with the TB Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max or the TB Stealth Pro. The dealbreaker for the Maxwells is the lack of simultaneous BT and 2.4GHz wireless. I don't really plan on using my headset exclusively for my phone or another device, the benefit would really be being able to take a call from my girl since we are long distance while I'm on my computer, so I don't have to put in AirPods under my headphones or take out an ear from my headset to listen to her on the phone, or just flat out get off of my computer. It would be super convenient to have that all in one headset and that's really what I am looking for as my #1 thing in my next headset. But I'm jealous of you lmao.

@@TheHardWay71 I do like having options and every since Discord came to PS5, it's opened my world up a bit on headsets/headphones for gaming and music. Still loving my Maxwell, and I can always steam Spotify over the PS5, while I game, so no issue on that. Currently using those, my VZR and the ATH-R70X and that's changing my mind on a lot of things. Open backs will haunt my wallet, unfortunately. But it is terribly important that you find what suits your needs best and gives you the best audio experience you are looking for!

My favorite audio reviewer hands down. You n Badseed are my gotos! Thanks for all your time and efforts buddy! For the record. I've never heard of anyone mention this. The screen on nova pro both wired and wireless is OLED. IT WILL ALLOW BURN IN...Mine has had this happen. it's not a real big deal cause its always on same screen but going into menu I can clearly see the burn in effect. I wonder how it'll look after couple years as it's happening and its only been a few months thus far. My wired dock has the issue but my nova wireless dock is still fairly new so no issue yet. BE careful!

i have a pc and currently own nova pro's. i have 0 complaints about them when it comes to fps games. whether above or below or all around its easy to locate and determine distance from targets. i do believe they are better in this regard than last gen arctis pro wireless in this regard. i still have my arctis wireless pro's and they still work perfect after 5 yrs i believe. bought them when they came out. i just ordered a set of sennheiser 560s to test out to see if they are better or worse for imaging. if theres something better i want it. knowing where someone is gives you the advantage. if they are worse then ill return them np. i will still be keeping my nova pro's though for sure. on another note the newer astros are absolute garbage compared to older gens. me and my friend bought them and immediately returned them they are so bad. thats the time we bought the og arctis wireless pro's. the older gens are far superior there is no question. the last good ones were the ones w the blue aluminum arms i do believe. its been a while so i cant really remember.

Very informative video, thank you. I recently ordered the Arctis Nova Pro Wired (because I don't think wireless is as important as better sound) and the WH-1000XM4 to test and keep one of them. The Nova Pro was really powerful, hearing so much detail in the sound was really good. The 1000XM4 couldn't keep up seriously, maybe beacause it's wireless. However, I noticed how cool noise canceling can be (I use an aio watercooled system and for some reason sometimes it sounds more annoying with headset on), so I sent both back and am looking for something that combines both strengths of the headsets. I'm leaning towards the Arctis Nova Pro Wireless, but the turtle beach might also be of interest. But the prices...

My JBL Quantum 800 broke on the neck and i bought Maxwell. From listening with wireless 2.4ghz, Maxwell has more resolution but less boom in the bass as JBLs are always known for the boom. In the higher frequency, Maxwell is absolutely amazing. But the finish is better and hopefully the steel band should last longer. I like the detachable mic on Maxwell as it will allow me to carry it around without looking dorky if I choose to do so.
