I've gone from Keto to Carnivore. (oxalate inflammation issue) I use animal fats exclusively. Render my own and I use it like butter, even smearing it on meat. It really does satiate.
Fasting is a winner too. Today I weigh 178lbs. I started at 340lbs or so. "Happy dance"

Doubt the oxalate in your diet was the issue, but inflammation or another cause. Conveniently he just did a video on this recently.

I've found that I have to make my own mayonnaise to ensure no seed oils have been used. Reading the ingredient list on the back of a container that was labeled made with olive oil, the first oil listed in the ingredients was canola oil. Really important to read your labels. Thank you for the information.

    “Addiction is managed through abstinence”.
The role of eating fat (60-70%) is:
To protect protein from becoming a source of energy.
To prevent an insulin response (low).

    • @happinessamerica7870
      @happinessamerica7870 3 роки тому

Jeepgurl but how does it prevent an insulin response is it because the fat is absorbed into the blood stream first?

    • @mclifer

@@happinessamerica7870I have Been looking for the video that explains it. Adding fat modifies the protein at molecule level so it is not a source of energy but rather a building block for muscle, tissue etc. It's around here somewhere. So for now just do it.

Using fat to fortify you.........Dr. Cywes, you have such a common sense of explaining the why something happens. I am that kind of person who needs to know why and how something works for me to truly grasp a concept. I have not heard anyone explain the "mechanics" of the keto program before. Now, I get it. Sort of having the light bulb finally coming on for me. Thanks !

For a while because of what we have all been brain washed into thinking I was afraid of the fat. I have seen children that when you are feeding them they get to that point that they turn their head away from the food your trying to give them. I always marveled that they could just stop like that. Well what Dr. Cywes says that the fat will shut off the more button he's right on target. I got brave and did unlimited fat. No thought of calories just meat and butter. Well I'm telling you I found my off button ! The very thought of one more bite makes me gag. Also when I think of how it felt I can't take another bite. I'm not saying I'm always that way but it's heaven when I am. Also what he said about being nauseated is also true when I hit full I just can't do it. Also I noticed that I was not hungry as much so I could think well if I eat what will it be ? If nothing sounds good then I figure I'm not really hungry. I am hoping that the longer I try not to worry about calories the easier it will be. Thank you Dr. Cywes

Regarding the comment Dr. Cywes makes about bulletproof coffee, even though I recognize that many people are in the process of reducing their body fat content including himself, I still add coconut oil to my coffee to help regulate the caffeine absorption. It doesn't allow it to spike while digesting it. Also, I'm at a 10% body fat composition, and I don't want to lose any more fat. Eating little fat will not knock you out of ketosis while in a fasting mode.

I realized I was addicted to food about 3 years ago...no surprise there having grown up with a mom who was a prize winning baker and no slouch in the kitchen either. Along with maturing and having 2 babies started noticing a slow but steady weight gain. Since then yo yo "dieting" without success. I've been looking for a way of eating that would be sustainable without gaining weight. Your recommendations and insight are exactly what I've been looking for and I'm grateful. Thank you!

It’s awesome! A1c is stuck at 5.7, but down from 5.9. I know I have to be patient…have been exclusively keto for 8 months and have lost the 7 lbs around the middle that had been so stubbornly sticking around. LDL 209, HDL 97, trig 64. CAC score 121. Glad to know I needn’t count low carb veggies. Whew!! I will now eat my daily mini avocado at beginning of meal or with each bite of meat. Do they count since they actually are a fruit? Fruit carbs are one of my addictions esp summer fruit. Geez wonder if I can make it thru the canning season without cheating. I’m still going to can preserves without added sugar mostly for friends/family.

Dr Cywes thank you for all your videos...
I have implemented fat fortifying my food, but how do I know I am fat adapted and how do you get fat adapted the proper way...
I've been doing carnivore for 3 1/2 months and have not lost one pound... I do very little vegetables and meat salt and water... I don't get it why it would take so much time for me to lose one pound after all you are eating very low carb and often zero carbs...
I feel great and have many positive results... people are telling me I lost... my leggings are looser, I wake up early and with a better disposition, instead of sleeping in till 11:00 it regulated my diarrhea issues, not I'm more solid and am so happy about that... that in itself is worth it for me and much more.... another important thing that is happening is my blood sugar is now 5.5 to 6 compared to being in the 20's Thank you for your time and effort in educating us

Love your videos, they are very helpful and keep me on track. Have taken then management of my type 1 diabetes upon myself as Dr’s here just keep prescribing more insulin and don’t support a low carb lifestyle. I have been hard core keto diet since October and absolutely LOVE the results. I’ve lost the weight that constant insulin shots were adding to my belly, and like everyone else have realized so many other health benefits. I am interested in your opinion of how much results a type 1 diabetic should expect to see. I’m still using small amounts of insulin to keep blood sugars at bay, even when eating a zero carb meal. I am generally pretty healthy, exercise regularly, 5’7 147 lbs. 53 yr old female.

You will always need insulin if your pancreas is not producing any, but you don't have to suffer from the effects of diabetes. Strongly suggest a CGM and insulin pump. So much easier, love what you are doing

Well then, let's not pussyfoot around, shall we? Love that- "ZERO." Got it folks? NO allowance whatsoever, nope, nada, nil.
Considering it's gratification most people are looking for in carbs, & by relacing it w/satiation, we realize how preferable the longer term feeling of being fueled & sated from our food truly is. Just takes a bit of time & practice- new patterns & comfort levels will form, if we're patient w/ourselves. Patient AND firm. =)

My sister and I both started a keto diet (I got her into it), As I was getting healthy and loosing weight she wasn't loosing any weight and I couldn't figure out why. After several months she said that she'd been eating lots of "fat bombs" and BP coffee...voila!
Remember that if you are overweight you already have plenty of fat for your body to use as fuel and whatever else it needs it for.
So go easy on the extra fats; the longer you go between meals the more body fat you'll burn. And, when you do eat go for healthy meats and fats!

Interesting, but i feel less bloated on low carb and yes LDL goes up, especially initially as you are burning fat, but HDL goes up and TG goes down, more than offsetting any rise in LDL. If you eat meat from healthy animals then you have all the vitamins and minerals you need. If you feel the need take a multivitamin.

    Hi Dr. Cywes,
Can you please do a video that explains the science of eating fat fortified meals. There is so much argument over high fat versus high protein. what determines if a person should be which diet. or if you have already can you tell me which one because maybe I missed it. Also what if you drink the fatty coffee with your meal?

  • @aders62

Dr. Cywes, I wanted to let you know how happy I am to have discovered your content. Thank you. I do have a question, though. My understanding of your content so far is not about macro and calorie counting. I'm 330 pounds with a rough estimate of 250,260 lean body mass. I'm a competitive powerlifter, and have tinkered with keto before, but felt as though my performance suffered. What would you guess would be an ideal level of protein intake for my goals of maintaining lbm and strength, but also catering to the desire to lose weight /body fat? Surrounding training and /or competition specifically, would I benefit from some carb intake peri-training or competition?
Thank you for any advice you may be willing to give me.

Hi Doc Cywes, what are your thoughts on homemade bone broth from chicken wings and necks? I thought it would be good for collagen as people talk about this on other channels, however, if I add chicken thighs to my diet will that add the necessary collagen - I think I have just answered my own question. After you advise not to drink our calories I'm now questioning the use of broth as part of my keto lifestyle.

    • @terrifoster8986

I believe he is talking about the fat loaded coffees when he says not to drink your calories. Bone broth is very nutrient dense and is not the same as just drinking fat in your coffee.
