the ironic part: Tarkin was ultimately responsible for the Empire's destruction. Many weren't traumatized by Alderaan's destruction, but galvanized. It's what turned a series of skirmishes and small conflicts into a full-scale war.
The Empire should have publicly denounced Tarkin rather than trying to cover the destruction of Alderaan up. Tarkin was a rogue officer on a power trip, trying to hide the fact just makes the entire Empire look guilty. I mean, Tarkin’s actions even made PALPATINE go “wtf bro?”, and that’s saying a lot.
@@funnelvortex7722 Rogue officer is not enough, it needed a weapon that can destroy planets. Which took decades and incredible amount of resources. AND Tarkin was incredibly high in the hierarchy, respected, one of the closest people to the Emperor. So it makes perfect sense they tried to cover everything up, even if it didn't end up working.
Very good short film, and love the details. If you look closely, you can see a few stormtroopers and officers who feel remorse or regret what they did and lower their heads down, it only shows that there were also many normal people working in the Empire with feelings, not non-relative murderers as the original saga presented to us. One of the bests short films i ever watched.
According to the comics, most of the imperials aboard were cheering and clapping and some cried and walked away which would make sense because some imperials were from alderaan. But after the planet's destruction, thousands of systems across the outer rim has fallen into civil unrest and most of them joined the rebel alliance
Well not all Imperials were thrilled. Those of Alderaaninan descent such as Tycho Celchu would go on to defect to the Rebellion and systems would side with the Rebellion. In face several scholars would later say that the Destruction of Alderaan was the Empire's biggest mistake as they weren't ready for the backlash the galaxy had for Alderaan's destruction. Even Palpatine was shocked by Alderaan's destruction. While it is true Palpatine did give Tarkin permission to blow up a planet, not even he expected Tarkin to blow up Alderaan, which was still respected as one of the founding planets of the Old Republic. As a way to ease tensions Palpatine announced he was saddened over Alderaan's destruction and even offered to relocate the survivors who were off planet to one of his resort planets. Even so he would latter claim Alderaan's destruction was justified as Bail was a leader of the Rebellion and he claimed that Alderaan was making biological weapons. While the part about Bail is true not many people believed it as it was already one of several excuses for why Alderaan was destroyed and since Alderaan was completely blown up the Empire couldn't even present any proof of their claims
I love it. This Video truly shows the might and the terror of the empire. It also shows that not all men of the empire are just heartless killer machines. They have a heart and the think. They can feel oy over the destruction. But they also can feel sorrow, guilt or uncertainity. In short: this Video things that werde forgotten in the original trilogy.
If I were there, I don't think I would applaud with my comrades... but wearing white armor, I suppose I cannot openly criticize the decisions of the Imperial leaders. Nonetheless, you have done a good work, and I look forward to more of your great works, especially works about Stormtroopers.
Finally! An animation of that monster travelling through hyperspace - I wish we'd actually seen that in Rogue One when they were testing the thing, as it would've been spectacular on the big screen.
The one detail I'd contest is the screams starting immediately, I don't think that's an accurate representation. I contest your vision here a little bit, if I may. It would start with confusion, bewilderment, a complete lack of knowledge as to what had just arrived but understanding it's so huge and immense. Anxiety, anticipation, worry, but not screams. Both would gape, men frozen, women shaken and staring, some might even just go right on with their day after the initial appearance. Then the beams light, confusion begins to turn to terror and realization, and as the beam strikes down with the power of a star there's a very brief scream of women and gasp of men, a mother moving to take her child into her arms only given a half second to react to the realization of destruction before immediately all being silenced at once as the air begins to disintegrate, the explosion of the system roars before utterly going silent. Leaving it on the silence as the pieces fly off in random directions might have also really increased the impact.
I wonder if there would have been people from Alderaan inside the first death star... what would they have thought when they saw their home being destroyed by the machine they were riding, in the machine they operated, how many would there have been, to feel as the accomplices of the death of millions
Imagine what it was like for the other side of the planet. Your just minding your own business, then bam! Your dead in an instant. Makes you happy that Tarkin would receive his karma during the Death Star's destruction.
Amazing animation. One nitpick tho, i think the explosion is a bit slow, i think they wouldn't even see the explosion, they would just vaporized immediately. Explosion of Alderaan in the ANH is much faster.
Yes, it was faster because it was done back when "cracking the planet open" was a bit too difficult to do in a convincing manner (wink wink - 70s and early 80s were just the beginning for modern cinematics and true special effects). No amount of energy from Death Star would cause an immediate, total vaporization like the one in New Hope. It's not a weapon of that kind. The closest modern showcase of such weapon was in Episode 7 with Starkiller base that was basically "Death Star Shotgun". Hell, it is even mentioned by Obi Wan not long after the shot - "As if millions of voices cried out in terror" - meaning that people of Alderaan knew they will die in a few, maybe dozen of seconds (at least!)
The Deathstar wasn't that close to Alderaan when it dropped out of hyperspace it was something like 25,000 miles away and at 75 miles in diameter it would've looked small at that distance.
Then, few days later, Tarkin had a taste of his own medicine.....😁 ironically, had Tarkin invaded Aldeeran, they would've surely found either rebel bases' ubication and evidences of Bail Organa's involvement in the rebellion, so destroying any future hope of success for the rebels.

I read somewhere that there was a battle over the planet, just before the death star destroyed it. The battle of Alderaan.
