I like seeing you guys breathe new life into these cars that most people just strip down for their parts, or worse yet, send to the scrap yard. Many of them were still being driven before being parked. With some additional "love," these cars can be put back on the road again. As a side note, in the mid 1970s, my neighbors were a newly married couple who bought a new wagon like this, light blue. I always these little V-dubs! Great job and videos. Please keep them coming.
I love this video! I had a 73 Square Back in that same Saturn Yellow with black interior. I bought it in 1984 in San Jose, CA, with about 170K miles, for $1,200. I drove that thing from Salt Lake City to San Jose and back at least ten times. By 1993, it had nearly 300,000 miles on it when it finally gave up the ghost. Second best car I ever owned, next to my 1997 Toyota Camry - 340K miles and still going.
I had one of those in Germany in 75..it was a great car...it had a winter heater where you could set a clock and a petrol heater would come on and warm out the car..never had to de ice it of remove the snow from it...straight out of my house start up and off to work whilst everyone else was scraping the ice off...👍👍
Very nice job with the detailing, and a good find of this quite rare car. I loved the interior shots, they brought back a flood of memories from when I was a wee lad. I stil have the bonnet badge from my dad's beige VW station wagon. It was a great winter car in northern Norway; great traction with the engine over the rear wheels. Sadly it just rusted to pieces from salt and snow, which I think is an important reason there's so few left today. I hope yours finds a good home!
What a great find and a great transformation. She is a beautiful car and you brought her looks back from underneath the grime. Goid luck to the owner in restoring the old car. Pity she is an automatic.
You really brought the shine back! I think the patina’d panel van look is really cool… I’m sure there is a horde of air cooled VW rat rod enthusiasts descending on the owner as I type this… I hope the car has a second life!
I used to work for a car dealership and we'd occasionally get an older Volvo in. They have a unique smell to them. Same with the older Saabs. I can almost smell the Volve watching this.
I had a 68 Squareback that I bought from a friend in 78. We sold it back to him when we bought a new car for my wife, and I wish I had that squareback right now.
👍👍👍👍👍🤜🤛 I do have a question do are the windows still in the back or did they pull those out and then put the steel around it because personally I’d like to get a car like that and get the metal pulled off of it that they put on there and get the windows put back in and then have it redone from top the bottom and put a sleeper engine in it, but that’s just meso you can answer the question I’d appreciate it
Type3s have basically a bug engine but there are differences.type3 cases had oil fill towards bottom of case bugs didn’t.plus the cooling system is different.bugs had “upright” cooling with the crank pulley turning the cooling fan on a type3 it’s a “pancake” so the fan is driven off the crank
I did pretty much all that 😂 Carpet was briddle though so I kept distance with pressure washer and no Squeegee didn't wanna tear it. But I like your thinking 👍
@@shawnoandrew you see, I'm a carpenter and I don't put carpet on the floors before I build the roof. what's the point in cleaning a car that won't run no matter how clean it is.
Thanks For Watching! 👀🙌
What is Your Favorite Part of These Barn Finds?!

My Dad had the TL-Version.......it wasn't a small car with two Trunks....
You are a magician! Awesome.
It’s so great to see classic cars be found in barns and then taken to be restored to like brand new. Much better than throwing them away
Dane with the subtle PURO shoutout :o
This thing was so weird to see at first but turned out so good
Gotta support my Homies 💪 I appreciate it! 🙏
@@DetailDane i love you frind

Love watching your videos while I work out! You gave me a chuckle when you said it looked like coolant on the carpet 😂
Had 1971 VW Square Back. Loved that car. It was my first car at 16.
me too at 16 i had a 65 notchback and a 66 squareback. blew both engines. you have to check the oil

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE VW Squarebacks!!! Brian in Las Vegas
You have a diamond in the rough, this car looks pretty solid and you have alot to work with, hope we get to see this back on the road real soon !!!!
Appreciate you leaving the normal noises in the video and not covering it with horrible music
Never mind I watched more through and you put music in it 🤦🏼♀️
I've never seen a panel van like this before. Definitely worth saving and showing.
Great job! Owner should be impressed.
So AMAZING and satisfying to watch! Super cool car! 😎👍🏻

Ficou lindo o carro assim com essas marcas do tempo muito bom parabéns.
Amazing job Dane! It's nice to see these cars getting some long overdue TLC lol. Keep up the good work, greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
I had one of these for several years. Ran OK but the Western Pennsylvania Winter weather and road salt resulted in way too much rust out.
Loving it! The pressure washing with the yellow paint was super satisfying!
Thanks Ryan, I appreciate it! 🙏

Nice. I had a fastback version. Brings back memories
Really loving the car
I love those! And the hatchback. I wanna get one and convert it to electric.
Great work. Need to get over to have my truck detailed.
Appreciate it! 🙌 Booking Up Fast! 📅
Oh I'd love to find a car like that!!!
It's a dream...
Cheers from Chile.

awesome job
I like the rare marathon/baja wheels , too bad he doesn't have the center caps. I've got a set on my 68 karmann ghia.
He use to have some of those cars too I'm sure somewhere with the other cars, and buggys there are laying around!
Couldnt agree more Don! Just restored a set of those wheels!
This is my favourite vw and the kombi

And it will also easily fit a Typ 4 engine in there......
This is a really rare car even here in Germany where he comes from. Most of them were 4 seat cars with 3 Windows at each side. (station wagon?)
What I want to know is - who is playing guitar at about 8:45 into the video? Mighty good guitar playing!
Those are my favorite cars
I love it, but ... does it run?
We had of them in the early 80's
Wish VW still made those !
Nice and rare
I like watching your video it’s so satisfying when you clean the car do you use your product from WD detailing?
Thanks I appreciate it! I do! I use Puro 🔥 you can buy it off their website 10% Off using Code - Dane10

Yes those cars are cool Peace out
Nice old VW 1600 Variant, but he need his big bumper back.
These were a really nice car. Pity it was ruined by welding on panels over the rear windows.
Merecia uma complete restoration (in english, digamos assim).
Ever seen the VW id r ? Goodwoood
Great work! One critique: more/longer ‘after’ shots. We want to see your hard work.
When you say Northern Michigan, do you mean the UP, or just the northern part of the mitten?
Northern part of the Mitten ✋️ I'm located in Traverse City Michigan
Great detail mate Google only fools and horses van lol u will see what I mean
It looks so similar 😂
Good...
🙌
Inclivemete impessonade dimais curtir fantángo ❤❤❤👀
Man I could smell the horsehair interior from here.
Wow ... its a John Book car ... someone here remembering Harrison Ford drove this typ in the movi ,, The only wittness " ?
Wasn't it Paul Newman that was in the Advertisment back in the days ?
But I don't remember Mr. Ford.
No front and rear bumpers ?
Cal look
This vehicle was sold as a Model 412 in the rest of the world, debuing in Aug 1972.
Correction - as a Type 3 it started production in 1962. Ooops!😊
Coolant??😂😂😂😂😂
Why didn't you make 3 Shorts videos with This!?
Is it just me or does this kid look like Parker from GOLD RUSH??!!
Hmmmm, clean and polish a car before even knowing if it runs…. 🤔
And then: 24 yrs parked outside, a 1972 VW known for it’s ability to rust… 🤔🤔🤔
T-Rust me, i'm a Volkswagen
You could have saved yourself some time just power washing those carpet, using a squeegee, THEN extracting and air dry.
I did pretty much all that 😂 Carpet was briddle though so I kept distance with pressure washer and no Squeegee didn't wanna tear it. But I like your thinking 👍
that thing is rare as hens teeth
Subaru engine swap 😅
why wash it? get it running.....
Why wash it? Have you not watched his other videos? He's DETAIL Dane, not mechanic Dane, lol.
@@shawnoandrew you see, I'm a carpenter and I don't put carpet on the floors before I build the roof. what's the point in cleaning a car that won't run no matter how clean it is.
car
Increase your vocal audio, decrease cleaning audio
Y bother with that car 😢😢
Because its extremely rare and valuable .. in germany you can ask alot of money for it ..
your editing gives me a headache
It's a waste of time to wash a car that needs a new paint job.
And it has rust all over the car.
Sandpaper works best on clean surfaces 👍
Not a big job to put windows back in and retore it to a more usable state.
