warp locks are poor shots? I seem to remember a story of a Skaven sniper shooting a dwarf though his telescope and then other dwarfs kept picking the scope up to look though because "of course the rat men can't have a gun that can shoo this far!" and of course, they too got shot as well.
My favorite thing about this pair of videos is how Arch pretty much goes off on how much he loves Skaven through his descriptions. Then you understand how well a job he did, when he gets into the units and you see all the times he uses *misfire* as "misfire"... maybe it's wasn't as much of an accident as the Skaven would want you to believe. I can see an Engineer's first priority in being able to have a secret setting for "accidentally" mowing down potential rivals. Great vid!
Ugh.... Warp lightning cannon.... I WANT to love it, it just looks so amazing! However, in the 10+ matches where I have fielded it, it has successfully shot (without blowing itself up) twice... TWICE! And only one of those times did it actually hit anything! Pretty sure my dice hate me.
Yeah the first Skaven weapons I got (Ratling Gun and Warp Lightning Cannon) managed to blow themselves up in the first game I played with them, leaving my army with no real way to kill my opponent’s remaining two Demigryph Knights, who proceeded to slaughter my weak army.

The faction of the skaven should be divided into 3 sub-factions, Moulder, Skyre, and Pestilens. I think that the most likely factions to be introduced in the next to expansions are elves, and then either the skaven, tomb kings, or chaos (with dwarves as a sub faction of chaos maybe)
Heinz Guderian they said each game, of the trilogy announced, was stand alone but if bought together they combine the maps so I'm a guessing next game will be bretonia, skaven, wood elves, tilea or estalian Then final game will be new world and high elves, albion perhaps and maybe tomb kings too
Britannia is on the way but they are a bit far out as atm the schedule looks like this Orcs, Empire, Lizardmen then the shinning knights of Britannia so sadly you have a bit of a wait :( waaaaaaait Britannia? god damn auto correct! I mean Bretonnia ofc....
A cool dynamic would be to have all units be either Slaves or Clan Rats then have multiple upgrades available through different clan buildings. This way you get the horde idea while conserving the play dynamic and balancing.

Idk if it's just me, but i think the old metal warp lightning cannon looks better than the plastic one. I don't think the plastic one is bad, but i'm certainly gonna look for the metal one for my army.

Any viewers/commenters/ Arch himself if hes looking, i have a question regarding the Warplock Jezzail. What do you you all estimate the caliber of the average Jezzail to be? Its almost a 1/3rd longer than the Skaven manning it. My first reaction was roughly .50 cal but if Skaven are man sized, it doesn't take 2 men to brace a.50 cal rifle. Does this mean the Jezzail is somewhere in the 15mm-30mm range? That was the conclusion i drew. I am open to more solid research though. EDIT: i interpreted the Jezzail to be 1.3x larger than the Skaven gunner based on how they appear in the model. I acknowledge they are somewhat crouched, but i have never seen a (pure) Skaven stand up straight.
Caliber is determined by bore size/projectile size, not by barrel length. That being said, I’ve no idea what caliber warplock rifles are. Assuming that handguns are similar to a brown bess (which was .75), I’d say they’re a bit bigger than that. Then again, I doubt there is any type of standardization when it comes to skaven tech, so the caliber likely varies from gun to gun and the warpstone projectiles likely mold to fit whatever they’re fired out of being that they’re magic in physical form
Dude there's actually a simple way to make the Ratling Gunners a balanced unit on their own. It's quite simple actually. Just have them only have 200 range, being the same range as upgraded bow monks in Shogun 2. And I'd say go look at the range difference between the Gatling Gun and Armstrong Gun in Shogun 2.
What if the weapon teams were the skaven versions of heroes? I feel like this might make more sense because then these singular "heroes" can still be powerful but you don't have to worry about 4-8 of them becoming too powerful. What do you think of this?
I think that you should have fewer armies than the old standard however units should be in more depth. fewer more important more challenging battles. What I mean is that units should have a lot more options, upgrades and the ability to vett up. By this I mean you should be able to A) pick up upgrades as your units gain experiance. Asuming that every unit has its own champion you ourght to be able to invest in a better/ improved leader as well as upgrades to the unit as well. for example night goblin fanatics, a magic banner slot, a larger or a war machine crew. B) The ability to be upgraded into a more powerful unit like night runners into gutter runners, knights errand into knights of the realm.
If you want an idea of how horrifying a Skaven assassin with 3 knives can be, look up the book "unseen", it really shows what kind of horror a rat man assassin can be in the dark.
mhm some explanation about what warpfire and warp ammo is would've been nice earlier in this video (unless you've already done it earlier), considering how many skaven units using this. - Otherwise - thumbs up! I hope Skaven will be added quite fast-soon in the game.

6:25 I know that was just a joke, but I can't help commenting on that sentence. french soldiers were clearly never cowards during their history. Old generals in place by political manoeuvres and other stupid shit like that , doing stupid decisions and then surrendering to save their own skin when things go (oh, so unexpected!) south because of it ? yeah, definitely. France in Europe was in fact so strong that other countries around were always making alliance to surround that country and avoid its soldiers going wild. And despite that, they still managed to expand several times by a huge margin before being stopped. France spent a tremendous amount of time at war in its history, and they won far more than they lost for a very simple reason. Surrounded by enemies, they didn't really have no choice but to win. They're closer of being some of the bloodiest annoying warmongers in world history than being cowards. This situation only shifted with the creation of germany 150 years ago, when suddenly the country to surround was no longer france. It's less that france suddenly became weak than germany was even more ridiculously dangerous than France. Blame Bismark. And even then, British were still extremely wary of French, for example avoiding giving them too much german territory (notably the industrial area they were asking for) after the first world war simply to avoid going back from "german are too strong" to "frenchs are too strong". As a result we got a second time german are too strong 20 years later, but hey. Losing to germany when they were the strongest country in the world (1941) isn't really what you would call a proof of being weak, either. Even then, Frenchs soldiers of the first army still stood their ground while being surrounded AND outnumbered AND outgunned by the germans near Dunkirk, just in order to have their english allies (who btw promised to give support fire afterwards but didn't do it) to escape France so that they could go back later and free France from the Nazi. There are numerous stories from 1941 about french soldiers in the mountain passes as well, stalling armies far bigger than them for a long time, fighting until the last men without wavering ,and inflicted a lot of damage to the german enemy. Those soldiers were not cowards even in defeat. And while joking is nice and all, I just want to point out that those peoples died defending their country, so let's remember that and give them proper respects a least a little, joke or not.

Missfires in total war should´t destroy your artillery (although hilarious) but just disable the machine unable to be used in combat but available next battle if the enemy doesn´t destroy it.
I don't understand why you would prefer if certain units with poison effects would be limited to plague monk armies. It is indeed clear that you have infinite potential to harm your own army with these things, but as you pointed out yourself at some point during this vid, "that's kind of the point". Why limit a player's capacity for a creative army list just because they might end up burning themselves? That seems almost like babying the players, if you don't mind me saying so. Furthermore, in my expereince weapons like ratling guns and other such contraptions can be balanced decently well in a Total War game. Shogun 2 had a lot of artillery, particularly in the Fall of the Samurai expansion, and those weapons have always suffered so much from their lack of decent mobility and ineffectiveness against units that are sufficiently spread out or under the cover of a forested area, that they almost balanced themselves out naturally. Good video though. A lot of the theorycrafting is well thought out, and the lore and descriptions are both accurate and entertaining.
Mostly it is to reinforce the roles of the various clans in skaven society by letting them keep some unique unites for themselves, thou that's only really a question if the skaven clans are even represented in game, otherwise i see no reason not to let the player mix and match at there own peril.
Arch Warhammer Ah, that makes a lot more sense to me already, thank you for clearing that up! We'll just have to see how they handle it. They've done unique units and colour schemes for tiny factions before, but never even close to the kind of scale it would have to be done on for Warhammer.
Okay, its impossible for the Skaven to be a playable faction in TWW, mainly just because they have no surface cities, but also because they are utter shite. Better to have them as a random event akin to a Chaosstorm or just how the Warriors of Chaos very well should be implemented in general.
As a playable faction, they just don't work. Politically, unless you are the Horned Rat, people would be trying to kill you every 5 seconds. Your Generals and Governors would be dying off like the Buffalo in the Wild West, and then quickly replaced by a completely different dude who specializes in something completely different. Also your units suck, and the only good ones might kill your entire army on a roll of the die.

Skaven would be the most OP faction to ever live if... they didn't fucking stab each other and are pretty big cowards.
Orcs and Gobbos would also be pretty strong, they just like a good scrap too much to unite.
Whenever I see photos of figurines from the internet I wish I could paint mine like that :'( even my blood angels army looks like a total red turd even though they're the easiest to paint...

Old generals in place by political manoeuvres and other stupid shit like that , doing stupid decisions and then surrendering to save their own skin when things go (oh, so unexpected!) south because of it ? yeah, definitely.
France in Europe was in fact so strong that other countries around were always making alliance to surround that country and avoid its soldiers going wild. And despite that, they still managed to expand several times by a huge margin before being stopped.
France spent a tremendous amount of time at war in its history, and they won far more than they lost for a very simple reason. Surrounded by enemies, they didn't really have no choice but to win. They're closer of being some of the bloodiest annoying warmongers in world history than being cowards.
This situation only shifted with the creation of germany 150 years ago, when suddenly the country to surround was no longer france. It's less that france suddenly became weak than germany was even more ridiculously dangerous than France. Blame Bismark. And even then, British were still extremely wary of French, for example avoiding giving them too much german territory (notably the industrial area they were asking for) after the first world war simply to avoid going back from "german are too strong" to "frenchs are too strong". As a result we got a second time german are too strong 20 years later, but hey.
Losing to germany when they were the strongest country in the world (1941) isn't really what you would call a proof of being weak, either. Even then, Frenchs soldiers of the first army still stood their ground while being surrounded AND outnumbered AND outgunned by the germans near Dunkirk, just in order to have their english allies (who btw promised to give support fire afterwards but didn't do it) to escape France so that they could go back later and free France from the Nazi.
There are numerous stories from 1941 about french soldiers in the mountain passes as well, stalling armies far bigger than them for a long time, fighting until the last men without wavering ,and inflicted a lot of damage to the german enemy. Those soldiers were not cowards even in defeat.
And while joking is nice and all, I just want to point out that those peoples died defending their country, so let's remember that and give them proper respects a least a little, joke or not.

Missfires in total war should´t destroy your artillery (although hilarious) but just disable the machine unable to be used in combat but available next battle if the enemy doesn´t destroy it.

Skaven seem to appeal to a lot of people. Personally, I preferred Orcs, Dwarves, and Chaos Dwarves.
Good ide to break up the videos, but I must say, I don't have a problem with the 1 hour + videos.
I don't understand why you would prefer if certain units with poison effects would be limited to plague monk armies. It is indeed clear that you have infinite potential to harm your own army with these things, but as you pointed out yourself at some point during this vid, "that's kind of the point". Why limit a player's capacity for a creative army list just because they might end up burning themselves? That seems almost like babying the players, if you don't mind me saying so.
Furthermore, in my expereince weapons like ratling guns and other such contraptions can be balanced decently well in a Total War game. Shogun 2 had a lot of artillery, particularly in the Fall of the Samurai expansion, and those weapons have always suffered so much from their lack of decent mobility and ineffectiveness against units that are sufficiently spread out or under the cover of a forested area, that they almost balanced themselves out naturally.
Good video though. A lot of the theorycrafting is well thought out, and the lore and descriptions are both accurate and entertaining.
Mostly it is to reinforce the roles of the various clans in skaven society by letting them keep some unique unites for themselves, thou that's only really a question if the skaven clans are even represented in game, otherwise i see no reason not to let the player mix and match at there own peril.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense to me already, thank you for clearing that up! We'll just have to see how they handle it. They've done unique units and colour schemes for tiny factions before, but never even close to the kind of scale it would have to be done on for Warhammer.

Okay, its impossible for the Skaven to be a playable faction in TWW, mainly just because they have no surface cities, but also because they are utter shite. Better to have them as a random event akin to a Chaosstorm or just how the Warriors of Chaos very well should be implemented in general.

As a playable faction, they just don't work. Politically, unless you are the Horned Rat, people would be trying to kill you every 5 seconds.
Your Generals and Governors would be dying off like the Buffalo in the Wild West, and then quickly replaced by a completely different dude who specializes in something completely different.
Also your units suck, and the only good ones might kill your entire army on a roll of the die.
Shinobi and ninjas are the same thing - don't think either term is superior to the other
