Another great vid. But Tuisova is a running back plain and simple - he's rapid, strong and would absolutely tear it up, similar to Marshawn Lynch or Derrick Henry. Tuisova has a 7's background too so he's got an engine on him

I think the biggest challenge for rugby players going to nfl is two things.
    1. The plays are a foreign concept. Just learning how to run a route or understand the xes and oes is totally foreign. The good thing about this is that it's something you can learn... but it's a steep learning curve, and you're competing with guys who've done it their whole lives.
    2. The body height. Rugby players just run more upright. To me, this seems like a huge issue for rugby players. It's really hard to completely relearn your bodies running mechanics.

Built like Haloti Ngata but a bit smaller. Haloti played Rugby for his high school team in Oregon (I think) and they made it to the national championship. He played football in college and was a good nose tackle in the NFL. He did not have the speed (4.85 in high school) or cutting ability to play running back--he did a lot of running the ball in Rugby of course. I would guess that Tuilagi would be a lineman in the NFL, too.

Loving how the rugby and NFL universes are moving ever closer. The two sports are, after all, distant cousins. LRZ being signed by the Chiefs is fantastic, even if the kid doesn’t become a superstar. Maybe in years to come he will be seen as a pioneer - although having said that, the way that professional sports have been willing to learn from each other in recent years, the Chiefs are showing the mindset of champions: winners always look for that extra 1% to stay ahead of the pack, and they know that sometimes it comes from the most unlikely places. LRZ may also do wonders for rugby’s profile in the US and vice versa NFL’s appeal in the rugby universe. I sense genuine mutual respect between the athletes, teams and fans of both sports, which is wonderful. Rugby can learn from how professional US sports is. As for the Chiefs, they really can’t lose. There is no risk for them signing LRZ, expectations are being kept realistic, and if they unearth a star, then it may just open the gates for more cross-pollination between the two sports. NFL have also just won over a legion of new rugby fans worldwide. And the nicest thing about all of this for me is, LRZ is a wonderful story, a quietly determined young man willing to chase his boyhood dream, but do so humbly with a seemingly limitless hunger to learn and to give it his best shot.

@QSNgg As a lifelong rugby player and fan from South Africa, I cannot wait for the next NFL season! And I’m sure I’m not the only one. I think both NFL and rugby are on the brink of an unexpected growth in popularity. I was in Florida and California in January and got a small taste of just how popular NFL is as a spectator sport. The likes of Quarterback on Netflix has also been a revelation. I turn 51 this year yet am as excited as a kid about learning how American football actually works. LRZ has been the catalyst for this. I predict both NFL and rugby to enjoy significant symbiotic growth in the coming decades.

Ben Tameifuna - a.k.a. "Big Ben" is not just big - at 151kg (333lb) he's quite possibly the biggest player out there. To put it in perspective, the biggest mofo in the South African forward pack, RG Snyman "The Viking", is only 131kg (289lb). Big Ben scored a wonderful try against Scotland in the 2023 World cup, with three giant Scots trying to wrestle him to the ground. Number 14 Kyle Steyn 102kg 225lb, No 13 Chris Harris 104kg 229lb, and No 4 Richie Gray 126kg 278lb - thats 332kg / 730lb combined that he just shrugged off. Kolbe with no experience would dominate. The plain simple reason is you can’t catch him so if he gets the ball with even the slightest space you lost 30 yrds already. Just because American football has lots of space compared to rugby so if then can break a defence like it’s nothing in rugby doubt they will stop him. @chrismichael2586 yo OK 4sure... no worries... another "bulls" northern transvaal story for you from a long time ago...I'm old enough to remember...this one relates to rugby going to NFL... 2 northern transvaal players - Naas Botha and his team mate Cliffy Brown left SA and rugby in 1983 to pursue careers as kickers in the NFL. Neither quite cracked it, Naas for the dallas cowboys and Cliffy for the new Orleans saints. Naas however did end up playing club rugby for the dallas harlequins the same year and with him as their fly half they won the US rugby championship - he then returned to SA the following year to become springbok captain. I think Cliffy Brown went to the UK to try rugby league as it was a pro sport and union wasn't. Amazing, they just hate Wales so much. No one even cared for American Football until LRZ announced his intentions to try it. Bit of Jealousy I think! This happens all the time when They do well in the Six nations too, rules always get changed in order to give advantages to attacking teams, Wales’ domination from 05 to 21 came in a solid defence, so they brought rules in to make it harder for defensive teams to win the tournament. You get bonus points for scoring more than four tries but not for not conceding them, which I have always found weird!

As a SA rugby fan. I also know a bit about NFL.They are very different sports. NFL players tend to be faster and stronger BUT!, they only have to keep it up for short bursts. You also have a lot of subs in the NFL so players can go 100% every play. Rugby player tend to be tougher because of the nature of the game. Broken fingers, you keep playing. Blood everywhere, you keep playing. With rugby you need rounded players that can do mostly everything and that is learned from a young age. In NFL each player does very specific things. Can rugby players play in the NFL ? Sure. Will they dominate? Maybe 1/1000.

You have great knowledge and insight of sporting capabilities across different sporting codes. Other than Cheslin (as a punt returner, or maybe as a wide receiver) and Caleb Clark (as a running back), most of the players on this list wouldn't get anywhere near the NFL. Not saying they aren't sporting FREAKS ... just not moulded to be suited for the NFL. Louis Rees-Zammit is giving it a go (check him out - he is a great talent from Wales), but even he will find it difficult to make it on to next season's team sheet. Only one RFC player comes to mind that absolutely would have been successful in the NFL. Jonah Lomu. In fact, he was offered a ludicrous amount to switch codes and play for the Denver Bronco's, but he was a home-boy and not lured by money and thus turned the opportunity down. In some sense it is a pity as more people (specifically Americans) would have become aware of his unbelievable talent, but in another sense I love his humility to stay grounded and be with his "family". Had he played in the NFL, he would've have been in the company of Walter Payton and Jim Brown ... without a doubt!

Don't get it twisted.. there are parts of an NFL game where these star rugby players could do damage and be freakish like open field running with ball in hand, or a one on one tackle where you need proper tackling technique to bring an attacker down who's not running directly at you which many NFL defenders are up for. But to say dominate is disrespectful.
Tuisova with the ball at speed is gonna cause damage in both Rugby Union and the NFL its simple physics added in his insticts as a Rugby player to beat defenders one on one without blockers can be a positive and negative in the NFL.. he could get trapped with no blockers and find a way through due to this instinct Rugby players have.. or he could get slowed down or get stuck not knowing how to run with blockers infront of him. Rees Zammit our latest player to switch over would do freakish things if he gets the ball in the open field.. he'd swerve outrun and break tackles at will.. the trouble is him learning the routes and plays to be given the ball in positions that he's not vulnerable in with some space to move juke and outrun defenders which is his strength.

Rupeni Caucau would have been in my selection
Blazing Speed and great balance . ( often lacked a bit of fitness mind ) but for me the greatest deep threat winger there was bar none

Rugby can’t cut it. Only special teams. Vice versa any lb db de dt wr rb can play rugby. Kill the mean with ball is basically rugby

Rugby players slow no lateral movement. You want to be looking at NRL players to play NFL

Yeah other than kickers you're 100% right. Only good one is Nate Ebner, but he played at Ohio State so he knew how to play football already

Why do Americans insist on calling sportsmen 'athletes'? Athletes do athletics. Sportsmen do sports. You can be 'athletic' in both. These rugby players are athletic sportsmen.

      From the OED: Athlete (noun):
a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise.

Because anyone that plays a sport is known as an athlete here

I feel like if you take it in the context of those “if those athletes had been born in America, they would destroy in the nfl” just a shame they are in different countries

NFL, all hype and little action. Most rugby players would just get bored.

I can respect your view on that, but disagree with NFL being lightweights
