👨🏽🦲ABOUT ME
It's your man, Jeff Thornton, and I'm ready to take you on a journey through my life!
I was born on Holloman Air Force Base, NM, and raised in the beautiful city of Alamogordo, NM.
Growing up as the youngest of six kids, you'd think I'd have it easy, right?
WRONG.
My siblings were always keeping me on my toes, and I wouldn't have had it any other way.
Family has always been my number one priority, and I owe that to my parents, Captain Robert and Dina Thornton, for instilling those values in me from a young age.
Now, let's talk about my love for sports.
From football to hockey, I've always been a natural athlete.
I was even the “Team Captain” for my high school football team, which I'm still proud of to this day.
But let's be real, sports are great and all, but nothing compares to the rush of being transported to a whole new world through video games.
When I was three years old, my sisters and I decided to be helpful and clean our brothers' Nintendo console.
Sounds like a good idea, right
Well, we used WATER.
Needless to say, we destroyed the whole thing.
But that moment taught me something invaluable - gaming is more than just playing a game, it's about bonding with your loved ones over a shared experience.
Video games have been a constant throughout my life, bringing my family together and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
And that's why I'm still a gamer to this day.
It's not just about playing a character in a digital world, it's about the relationships and the community that gaming creates.
So, to all the gamers out there, let's embrace our inner nerd and never let go of that youthful spirit that makes us who we are.
Thanks for tuning in, and much love to you!

Nigel Owens, one of the most respected people in Rugby, not matter what your nationality.
True. I'm English, if Nigel was to ref a match between England and Wales, you'd still trust he would ref the game equally and fairly. Legend of the game.
I see why! He is awesome from what I've seen 🙌🏽
I love that!
I remember one game he had to remind a player he was playing rugby, not football when he was overplaying a dodgy tackle or something.
Football needs to take a look at blokes like this
15:50 not ‘touch’, he’s saying ‘cwtch’ which means a cuddle in Welsh
Thanks for the correction and letting me know that he said cwtch! I appreciate the context on this 🙌🏽
Respected by fans and players across the rugby world. Don't use the word lightly but Nigel is truly a legend
I love that Lewis! Nigel is awesome!
Referee's voice is holy, you don't argue or contradict the ref's call that's a no go and one of the first things you learn as a young cub player..
I love that! They deserve respect. I love rugby teaches that
Not only he's funny but he is the best rugby referee out there (even though he's retired now).
He refereed in 100 international matches among which 4 Rugby World Cups (2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019) and officiated in the final of 3 of these WRC (2011 assistant referee, 2015 main referee and 2019 sideline official) and is one of the most respected referee in Rugby.
Nigel is a legend for sure! 🙌🏽
The best ref I've seen in almost 60 years.
I see why! He is awesome from what I've seen 🙌🏽
16:10 - he’s said “if you want a CWTCH, do it off the field” Cwtch is a very Welsh word, that means a hug in this context. Best explanation I’ve found - “Cwtch (pronounced 'kutch', to rhyme with 'butch') is an everyday Welsh word for a special sort of cuddle or hug, an emotionally significant embrace”
Thanks for letting me know the correct word he was saying Ewan! I'll have to learn some Welsh 🏴
Nigel was allowed to ref the welsh team in an international match...no one gave it a second thought ad it was nigel! He does an amazing talk on his early days as international ref ..in turns in tears and in laughter. Amazing man!
That's awesome he could ref his nations matches. Shows how fair and professional he is. Thanks for letting me know that Soniad 🙌🏽
Also at 5:01 when he was using a phone, the communications between him and the TMO were not working so they used a mobile phone instead.
and the crowd joined in!
haha that's funny! Thanks for giving me more context on this Ian 🙌🏽
Context, @7:38 This was a World cup game played at a football (soccer) stadium, and he's refering to how Footballers act injured to hopefully win a penelty, in other words, if you want to act soft come back when there's a football game on, you can act soft then, no place for that in rugby.
Thanks so much for the context about that R&D! That makes a lot of sense now 🙌🏽🤣
In my opinion the best ref that officiated any rugby game.
That's what I've been hearing too!
He's not just funny, he's fearless, and a great authority on the game. Watch him bawl out men that are twice the size of him.
if I recall correctly, a week or so after the 2015 World Cup Final, we was reffing a local league match in Wales. Clearly just loves the game too
You're 100% right about that 🙌🏽 He's awesome!
That's so cool Jason!
I really miss Nigel! He was the best referee the IRL made! Evetyone respected him! The players the crowd. EVERYONE! It was sad the day he retired. The rugby world cried! We wished him all the best with the sheep farming :P
Nigel is the man! Cool that you got to see him live in action too!
First time on the channel, so many rugby reacts from people that say they love it but remain ever clueless, it's so refreshing to see a react from somebody that is actually diving into the game.
Thanks so much for your kind words Sumisu. That means a lot. I appreciate you 🙌🏽
He's also involved in the current farmers' protests against the Welsh Senedd (Parliament). Good man!
That's cool! He's a great man 🙌🏽
Didn’t know that, I bet he turned up in Cardiff Bay last week - good on him.
Yes he was indeed a legend...still is. Always fair with his decicions !! Players from around the world respected him !
And fans.
Legend is the perfect saying Nigel!
I love that!
I don't think there's been many, if any, refs more respected in the game than Nigel Owens. Yes, he had a like for the melodrama, but he held everyone to a degree of sportsmanship and respect that we've lost a little bit of since he's retired.
We've lost a lot since him and Wayne Barnes retired as refs.
I can tell he was very special referee! So cool to see legends of his caliber
a Welsh legend🏴
100% Jake! I see why. Nigel is awesome!
Nigel is lovely and fair. He reminds me of so many of my teachers at school. I'm from south wales, so not too far away from where Nigel hails from. You know you did goofed if the teacher starts talking at you like that. It's just funny that that tone was scarier than someone shouting lol
You're 100% right about that hahah the teacher example is perfect 🤣
The amazing thing is that we very nearly didn't have him. when he was much younger and dealing with a lot of pressure he actually tried to end himself on a mountain. luckily for the world search and rescue found him in time. Going on to become the most respected Ref for both his ability to as you said so eloquently explain the rules, to his banter with the players and having big forward getting down on one knee so he could speak to them.
Wow! Thanks for the incredible background story about Nigel. Thankfully we had a chance to see him and have him in the game of rugby. It's wild how life happens and can change for the positive at any moment 🙌🏽
Yeah, Nigel Owens is gay, and is open about it. Hence the straighter than that one line
Lineout throw in has to be straight...down the middle
hahah thanks for letting me know! That's funny. Nigel is awesome!
100%
@QSNgg as an aside. Nigel Owens has now retired. He refereed the 2015 world cup final, before retiring from international refereeing. He now does Whistle Watch on UA-cam. Giving a little analysis on the big refereeing moments from the international games. Its on the World Rugby UA-cam channel I believe. He gives a good break down on the Laws applicable, and is really good to learn more.
Oh man, I miss Nigel, he was one of a kind. The thing that you don't see in any of these clips is that the games he reffed were smooth as fuck, the game progressed really nicely. I feel bad for Wales fans, they never had the pleasure of having him ref their games. I loved having him as a ref for a Bok game, you knew you'd have a fair and smooth flowing game.
Also, the comment he made in the beginning about I'm straighter than that. The context is probably as you imagine, Nigel is gay.
Munster man here, was at a few of these games ,believe me he had the respect of everyone in stadium,....we'd be driving into limerick someone would ask who's the Ref tonight, Nigel ,end of conversation.....Respect.
It's cool to see he's so loved by all Breen! That's awesome you saw him in person
What Nigel gave the game is love.
His passion and respect for the game of rugby was on show everytime he stepped onto the pitch
If any player or others showed disrespect towards the game, he explained to them what would happen.
With most sports, referees get a bad reputation but with Nigel, he made you want to watch proper rugby being played and enjoy everything from the gameplay to fans atmosphere in the stands
The guy is a true great of the world of rugby.
I agree 100% with everything you mentioned Allan! Nigel is exceptional and I love how rugby is taught to respect the refs. It's so refreshing to see
4:10 the player tried to charge down the conversion kick and was shouting while running to try and distract the kicker, which your not allowed to do. Because of that Nigel allowed the kicker to re-take the kick and now they are not allowed to try and charge it down.
Thanks for letting me know the context on that play Heinrich
Total legend.
100% !
thats why he was considered 1 of the best rugby refs in the world and highly regarded by the World rugby union.
I can definitely see why Ioan. Nigel is incredible!
Most savage yet most respected ref in the game. He has his own youtube channel if you wanna look at more of him.
I'll definitely check out his channel. Thanks for letting me know Stephen🙌🏽
@@QSNgg ok well i thought he had his own channel but he does not, he does a segment after all important games on the @world rugby channel called whistle watch, where he goes through all the big ref decisions made in the game and explains the match in more detailed than the normal compellation videos.
Absolute legend of the game and an awesome referee ❤ I watched him ref a game between my local team Waunarlydd and Gorseinon (grass roots game) in South Wales 🏴 about 15 years ago and he was exactly the same.
He is 100% a legend! It's so cool you had a chance to see him ref your local team. I love to see he's involved at the grass roots level up to the international level. So awesome! ❤️🙌🏽
Everyone loves Nigel.
I see why! He is awesome from what I've seen 🙌🏽
Christian Cullen - the paekakariki express.
You won't be disappointed brother, the best fullback to play for the allblacks
Much love Kim! I'll 100% check out Christian Cullen
I'll 2nd that ,Christian was special. I had the pleasure of watching him play several times and he just moved so fast and strong
He said "if you want to cwtch, do it off the field, not on it!" Cwtch is Welsh for hug or cuddle. 😂
hahaha yeah I've been told I missed that one 🤣 too funny!
This man is a true legend in the rugby world as a whole, he's a fantastic ref
100% !!! I see why he's a legend
Loved it!! From a Springbok 🇿🇦 please more rugby!!
I appreciate you Anna! I love rugby and will continue to learn and watch 🙌🏽
Might have been said but Nigel said "if you want to *cwtch* do it off the field not on it"
Cwtch is the Welsh equivalent of cuddle
Thanks for letting me know he said Cwtch and the meaning of it
Nigel Owens is the most respected ref in the world, as a fellow welshman ,player and referee its ashamed that he retired. Nigel came out a couple of years ago during his career thats why he made that comment
Nigel is an absolute legend!
16:06 Nigel says "If you want to cwtsh....", not "If you want to touch..". 'Cwtsh' is the Welsh word for 'cuddle'.
I knew I could rely on a fellow turk to spell cwtsh correctly 👌
Thanks for letting me know that Scarlett! I'll have to learn some Welsh 🏴
Absolutely the best referee … always had complete control and the players show him that respect… and a witty man too 😊
You're 100% right about that Mark! Nigel was an absolute legend 🙌🏽 I loved his witty banter. So quick on his feet
He said if you want to “cwtch” do it off the field not touch. Cwtch means a hug in wales
Just seconding this, it's definitely cwtch, not touch, I had to double check because I wasn't sure if it was myself at first. I honestly forget that it's not a word used in english. It's only when I randomly drop words in conversation from people outside of Wales that I get the weird looks like 'wtf are you talking about?'
Thanks for letting me know that Ethan! I appreciate you🙌🏽
I appreciate you letting me know! I'll have to learn some Welsh 🏴
@@QSNgg no worries brother, let me know if you ever want to come to wales and watch a game in the principality stadium. I can sort that out 🏴
I always took it for granted that everyone in the UK knew what a cwtch was 😂.
I think the cellphone episode happened because the video ref communication was off and they had to talk by phone.
He also did stand up comedy. He a great public speaker, I went to a function where he was speaking he was fantastic.
That awesome! Thanks for letting me know that. No wonder he's so quick on his feet
He had some things to say in his whistle watch about that italian kick in the france game ... worth checking out
I'll check out his whistle watch! Thank for letting me know
Nigel is a legend!
100% Jedi!! Nigel is incredible!
Nigel said, if you wanna CWTCH(welsh word for cuddle)do it off the field not on it 😂
🤣 Thanks for letting me know. My Welsh need work
You sir are iNSPIRATIONAL !!
love your perspective and positive take on the sport!!
You are what UA-cam needs!!!
Thanks so much for your kind words. I really appreciate you! It means a lot 🙌🏽
Such is my respect for Nigel Owens (esp after having met him twice!), I’d have been quite happy for him to referee Wales v England in Cardiff.
I think his professionalism would prevent him favouring his beloved Wales.
That's awesome you met him Michael! Nigel seems like he's an incredible man
btw at 16:09 he said “cwtch” not “touch”. “cwtch” is the Welsh word for a hug.
I appreciate you letting me know Jake ! I'll have to learn some Welsh 🏴
Yooooo early to this one, thanks for another banger. For context on the I'm straighter than that one, in rugby the ball must be thrown in straight in the lineout however it clearly didn't and also nigel owens is gay.
Ian my brotha! Thanks for the context on Nigel being gay. That makes what he said hilarious and adds a lot of context! Thank you 🙌🏽 Nigel is awesome!
12:56 "On Ten" is the best rule ever. Due to Racing's number 9 conplaining to Nigel, and not stopping until Nigel snapped at him, Nigel gives the penalty where he called it then calls "On Ten" meaning, due to unsportsmanlike conduct, the penalized team gives away a further 10 meters.
Okay thanks for letting me know that. I was wondering what was happening there. Thanks for letting me know that
19:17 he was talking to the Touch Judge before going to TMO, the Touch Judge told him to check the try because he didn't see it either, but he told him "10 Black struck a player in the throat." So Nigel says "I had advantage for an Offside, that gets canceled out, I'm penalizing the push instead."
That makes sense!
ooh yess!!..Nigel !!
Nigel is so awesome!
Nigel is now a farmer in Wales now he has retired. Really miss him when Rugby is on TV.
Yeah I saw that he's a farmer now! Super cool!
NIgel Owens is one of the greatest rugby union refs that's ever lived. To your "context" point (I think related to the Nigel's "straighter than me" comment), the great man, who is almost exactly the same age as me, so I feel like I've known him all my life in some ways, lives on his working farm just up the road from where I live (about five miles away), with his partner of many years, Barrie Jones-Davies. So not just a legend in the sport, but a courageous legend beyond it. For many, he is a hero.
I love that ! I can see why Nigel is an absolute legend and well respected by all
@@QSNgg Thanks man.
I should have added that I loved your really insightful reaction to his brilliant refereeing methods in this video.
He is the best of the best, and there is no doubt that he has influenced the refereeing profession way beyond RU.
Great job, you!
Andre Forde = the BEST rugby channel
I agree!
a friend of mine has great comedy routine where Nigel Owens is referring his marriage. He did that at a function Nigel was at, Nigel enjoyed it.
ua-cam.com/video/9oWJXN4uH3M/v-deo.htmlsi=WGrGjnNdjK02_WmP
That's so awesome 🤣 I would love to see that
@@QSNgg ua-cam.com/video/9oWJXN4uH3M/v-deo.htmlsi=W-ROvJS_UJLZPnw9
15:55 "If you wanna cwtch, do it off the field" Cwtch (pronounced sort of like cuutch) is a Welsh term for cuddling
Thanks for letting me know Rogue! I'll have to learn some Welsh 🙌🏽
@@QSNgg Most important thing is Dwi'n hoffi coffi (dween hoffy coffy) Just means I like coffee, can't go wrong with coffee!
you should react to Stuart Hogg, he's Scotlands all time try scorer
I'll definitely check out Stuart Hogg! Thanks for the recommendation Quins 🙌🏽
16:06 - Nigel actually said "If you want to cwtch, do it off the field not on it" Thats actually how the Welsh refer to hugging or cuddling someone which in my eyes is a much sicker burn on those guys!
I missed that one and thought he said touch 🤣 I'll need to learn some Welsh 🙌🏽
Be interesting to see your comments on the last All Blacks vs USA Eagles played in 2021 in the USA.
Don't forget to check out the NZ women's team, the Black Ferns, sometime.
Thanks for the recommendation on All Black v USA, I'll check that out along w/ NZ Black Ferns 🙌🏽 I appreciate you Miranda!
@@QSNgg Oh yeah, USA women's team took bronze in LA.
Legend ref. His quick word about him being straighter than that awful throw/lineout is that he is gay. Never saw any men argue with him and if they did utter a word they would be scuttling off quickly.
You're 100% right! Nigel is awesome! Thanks for giving me the context on the lineout. That's funny!
The one you missed, a player was acting up, so Nigel told him "The football stadium is 500 yards that way." Effectively telling him, you are acting like a Football/Soccer player.
I did miss that! Thanks for giving me context on that Asuke!
16:15 not “touch” it was the Welsh for cuddle.
Thanks for letting me know! I'll have to learn some Welsh 🙌🏽
The cell phone thing was hilarious. It happened because the ref lost communication with the television ref (they are wired up for communication but the device failed), so the tv ref called someone on their cell phone and told them to take the phone to Nigel so they could communicate.
That's hilarious Sylvia! Thanks for giving me the context of what happened there. That's awesome!
Can't see if it's been answered, but the mobile phone cliup was due to the radio coms breaking down with the offical in the stands - somebody ran on with a phone to convey a message from "upstairs"
Thanks for letting me know the context of that Wozza! I appreciate you 🙌🏽
yo bro im 100% sure your 18 percent scottish so... i can maybe put a good word in for you to join the Scotland team 😂 your build is like a rugby players. Your a beast bro
💪
hahaha that would be awesome if I could play for Scotland! 🏴🤣 I appreciate you boss!
The good thing we see in video 2 which should be used in other sports. If you have a go at the ref or swearing too much you forfit 10 meters. Then if you swear at him for that decision you lose another 10. Thats why in Rugby the ref is respected.
You're 100% right about that LDT. I love that rugby treats ref with the upmost respect and authority
Man congrats man came in from TWITTER I saw Nigel retweeted you to his Twitter!!
WOW WOW!!!
Keep up the amazing work loving the videos!!
Much love Voight! I appreciate you boss! 🙌🏽
Best Ref EVER
I agree 100%
Best rugby ref ever. Sorely missed
I see why. He's incredible
you should give Nigel's WhistleWatch, great recao if weekly rugby
I will definitely check out Whistle Watch! Thanks for letting me know Fire 🙌🏽
My favourite is "Christopher..."
🤣
Nigel the GOAT
100% right Karen!
a guy already said it below, but the ¨I`m straighter than that one¨ is because ¨line out¨ throw ins are supposed to be straight in rugby... as in as straight down the line of players as possible (although there is some leeway given as an unspoken rule).. but like was said previously, Nigel Owens is openly gay and became an icon for coming out in such a machista world that is Rugby... so the comment is... to put it lightly... fucking hilarious
That is very hilarious!! 🤣 Nigel is the man!
4:24 during a conversation kick, the defence is allowed to charge down the kick, provided they start behind the Try line and don't start running until the kicker does. That defender shouted as he was running, causing the kicker to miss. Nigel penalized the defender for the shout and allowed a rekick.
That makes perfect sense now. Thank you!
Context:"I'm straighter than that one" - Nigel Owens was the first top class rugby referee to come out as gay, just as Wales had the first openly gay player, our (then) captain, Gareth Thomas.
As a referee - Legend. Most respected referee ever.
Thanks for the context on that Gibbs! I appreciate you!
"I'm straighter than that one"? Nigel Owens is openly gay ... so for him to say that ... ABSOLUTELY CLASSIC. I remember watching that game ... the commentary crew just pissed themselves laughing when they heard that.
Fantastic Ref ... he kept the game moving. He was strict, he was objective and pulled up every infringement ... but he wasn't unnecessarily pedantic. He controlled the game and kept it flowing.
One thing I liked about him ... he was REALISTIC. At 16.35 ... there's an incident where he says "You're just a bit unlucky. You've gone in for the tackle, he slips as you make it. It's high and it's nothing more than a penalty. That's it". THAT isn't happening with Refs in current Test Rugby. Refs ... and TMOs .... are finding ANY excuse to throw out yellow and red cards. In today's game this incident would have attracted a yellow card and the player sinbinned ... possibly a red card and sent off. Given by Refs who don't understand the play in Rugby. Nigel Owens understood this stuff.
I love the reference you mentioned about Nigel explaining the high tackle and just giving a penalty instead of a yellow or red card.
That's the stuff you love to see from a professional that understand the game and plays like that are accidents because it happens in a split second
I appreciate you Geoff 🙌🏽
The 'Dickie Bird' of Rugby.
🤣
Rugby is played by giants and hooligans but they respect the referees. They are actually gentleman.
I love that quote!
Brilliant EX Ref now and also the first openly Gay Ref full respected by all
I see why he's the most respected! Nigel is awesome!
😍😍😍😍
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nigel was so respected because he was so good at his job. Rugby has a lot of rules, half of which I don’t think most players know lol It’s way more complicated than football (soccer) but rugby referees tend to get it right a lot more than football refs, so the players know if Nigel says something, he’s right, if you disagree, keep it to yourself.
Nigel is a legend for sure! 🙌🏽 I love how he reffed
The GOAT !
🐐100%
One of them you said you missed was when he told a player to watch his language “there’s children watching at home”
haha I did miss that! I'll have to rewatch that part Stuart
Rugby Refs are tiny compared to the players yet every player knows when they enter the grounds, the refs rule is law... On and off the pitch. And they all abide it, unlike foosball players who just treat the refs like shit, side note im from the same town as Nigel Owens, absolute GOAT of any sports ref 👌 Love and peace from Wales 🏴
Nigel is the goat! I love to see the respect rugby athletes show the refs! It's awesome to see 🙌🏽
the great thing about rugby is the respect the players have for the ref
it's unfortunate however that the standard of refereeing is dropping
I love the respect for the refs. It's great to see 🙌🏽
2:45 I think there was a player that Nigel suspected of making a big deal out of a minor booboo, something football (soccer) players are known for.
Thanks for letting me know Liam. Someone mentioned to me the context sayin "This was a World cup game played at a football (soccer) stadium, and he's refering to how Footballers act injured to hopefully win a penelty, in other words, if you want to act soft come back when there's a football game on, you can act soft then, no place for that in rugby."
If you want to know at about 16min he says cwtch which is welsh for hug
Thanks for letting me know that
Nigel.Owens now retired gives blogs on rugby and also commetates.probably best referee of all time
I'll check out his blogs and whistle watch. Thanks for letting me know Bruce!
rugby platers treat the ref with respect, they don't argue with him, if they do they lose 10 metres. soccer players need to act the same
I love the respect the rugby athletes show the refs
the closest ref we have on the international stage now to nigel banter wise, is angus gardener. nowhere near as iconic yet, but i make the bet that in 5 - 10 years the comments we’re making about nigel now will be being made about angus. both are very much interested in having an open dialogue with players while also making it very obvious that at the end of the day they have the final say at the end of the day.
I love that about rugby! I'll check out Angus Gardner as well. Thanks for letting me know Redgy 🙌🏽
Nigel is a god.
100% agree
If you want to cwtch, it's welsh slang for a cuddle
Thanks so much for letting me know Greg! I completely missed that. I'll have to learn some Welsh 🏴
He's a native Welsh speaker, English is his 2nd language.
I’ve been reffed by him twice 👌😮💨
That's awesome KT!! That had to be a cool experience!
@@QSNgg yeah both in welsh cup finals👌
The referee is the sole judge of fact and his decision is final.
Thanks for letting me know that. I appreciate you!
A brilliant ref, gutted he's retired now.
He is really incredible for sure Karl 🙌🏽
Nigel Is The Best
100% he's a legend
@@QSNgg Rugby Not The Same Without Nigel Sure Missed Him At The 6 Nations
6:58 stade de France
Thank you!
There's one point where the fans start singing to drown him out. I would have stopped talking to the players, game can't start again till I say so.
I love how interactive and excited the crowd gets. That has to be exciting to be in attendance
6:47
That’s all the French fans singing the national anthem.
Pretty common in Europe for fans to just randomly sing the anthem, usually (at least I think so) is done when the team has done something really good or if the opponent is being a bit of dick.
To show unity but also to get in the oppositions head.
That's so cool. Thanks for letting me know the context that moment Crocey 🙌🏽
@@QSNgg
No worries 😁
If you ever decide to react to anthems, then I highly recommend checking out ones performed live before games and in particular, the ones below:
- Flower of Scotland: sing along at home
- Welsh anthem just before Wales beat England 30-3
- Englands national anthem at Euro 96
2 rugby, one football (soccer). There’s loads more from around the world! But I’ll leave the natives to share/recommend the best ones as they’ll have a better list than myself 🇬🇧
