lyrics:
Nobody likes you
Everyone left you
They're all off without you
Having fun
Where have all the bastards gone?
The underbelly stacks up ten high
The dummy failed the crash test
Collecting unemployment checks
Like a flunkie along for the ride
Where have all the riots gone?
As your city's motto gets pulverized
What's in love is now in debt
On your birth certificate
So strike the fucking match to light this fuse
Ooh
The town bishop's an extortionist
And he don't even know that you exist
Standing still when it's do or die
You better run for your fucking life
It's not over til you're underground
It's not over before it's too late
This city's burning
It's not my burden
It's not over before it's too late
There is nothing left to analyze
Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself?
And where will we all go when it's too late?
And don't look back....
You're not the Jesus of Suburbia
The St. Jimmy is a figment of
Your father's rage and your mother's love
Made me the Idiot America
It's not over till you're underground
It's not over before it's too late
This city's burning
It's not my burden
It's not over before it's too late
Well she said I can't take this place
I'm leaving it behind
Well she said I can't take this town
I'm leaving you tonight
"Saint Jimmy is a figment of your fathers rage and your mothers love" This album is a rock opera this line is probably the most important to the story
Evan11of10 not only that but the lines before and after.
"You're not the Jesus of Suburbia"
Saint Jimmy is a figment of
Your father's rage and your mother's love
Made me the idiot America"
Those 10 seconds are the most important 10 seconds to the entire story
Evan11of10 its called a concept album
Disagree. I think it's "Where will all the Martyrs go when the virus cures itself. So much of his philosophy is being on that edge, not sure about going forward, and looking at the past as insufficient. Going into a world where almost no one has been successful at it except cons, and their prey is frustrating and comes out in Boulevard in broken dreams in a big way....and later music like Too dumb to die. The stuff in the middle is like coping....still coping....okay, I think I may have found a place to land.
The musical killed it with that.

The Most Underrated Music is Still to be Discovered.
Yes This Is A very Underrated Song. I Love This songs Music and rhythm, but when I finally really Looked at the Lyrics, I like it twice as much. Like I am Hearing it for The First Time. I Absolutely Love This Song!!!!!!!!!!

Lmao that’s what I was thinking too
And don’t look back
Your not the Jesus of suburbia the st jimmy is a figment of your fathers rage and your mothers love made me idiot America
This line was ahead of its time
1:47 Every lyrics site for this song lists this line as "It's not *over* before it's too late", but I can only hear him singing "It's not *all* before it's too late". This is consistent for the recorded and live performances and every time I've ever seen Billie Joe sing it.
I always hear "Its not UP before its too late" idk tho
i get what youre saying but over(nothing) is pretty much the opposite of all(everything). imo, in holiday, when he says "hear the sound of the falling rain" to me it sounds like "hear the sound of the calling rain" I hear a 'ch' sound... not sure if anyone else does
@@PapaSmurff660 it’s definitely “falling” to me, but I was confused about “trials by fire” vs “try to start fire”
I've heard a lot of different lyrics in the many years of listening to this band. The way he pronunciates words is so unique.
All time favourite. Still listening 2019
still true in 2022, this and whatsername
3:15 i swear they put crack in this melody i can’t stop listening

This outro is perfection!
I love how a lotta songs on this album are connected
This song aged incredibly well
Green Day’s song lyrics are always relevant
I'm in the UK and nobody is rioting like they should right now (cost of living crisis, politicians bleeding us dry) and the line "where have all the riots gone" is so relevant. Why are we bending over and taking it when we should be in the streets protesting and rioting??
@@jackblob1 so many people are scared of protesting bc of the new laws against protests unfortunately. Especially when the country saw peaceful anti monarchy prostestors getting arrested. Recently a journalist was arrested at a protest too. This song is especially relevant for today
This song slaps hard!
Who would have thought this fits 2020 so snugly
Badass break-up song.
"Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself and where will we all go when it's too late?" Omg that's so relevant to the coronavirus pandemic that it's insane
yes ikr
Even more now with the the riots and protests from Karen’s wanting a haircut and everything recently.
It said “when the virus gets its fill”
Green Day could not have predicted SARS CoV 2 since 2003.
Always relevant! Love Green Day always!

“You said Ingrid dropped those magazines off for you,” “actually that isn’t exactly what I…” “and I checked around for packages and there was no sign that Ingrid had ever even been here.” -Kyle Kone. “Wtf.” Licensed MFT and I believe it though ;)
I will take it as a message that I’ve said enough on this topic of issue, and I need to let the professionals handle it, and I should meditate a little on frustration with the fact that Ingrid and I aren’t living together and married yet and trust that things are extremely complicated right now and that she’ll be on her way to me soon with still an expectation of a journey fraught with paril. We know you don’t even know how to fabricate an email like that and the language is suggestive. And yes NTs are prone to Schizoid personality disorder and are uninterested or uncomfortable with the topic of sex. And that complaining about having to hide the arrangement isn’t gonna help anything, with it being understood that bringing chaos in social networks can help make progress, it can get to a point where it’s hard for an ESTJ to control without telling lies that would be upsetting to you, and that you’re afraid that you’ll find if you open up that Linux virtual machine with a privileged host operating system you got in that course, rising above the disability prognostic, but there’s really not much to be afraid of anymore. So do your own research on what’s been going on at your own pace, when you’re not afraid of what you might find in the records, and you can pretty much overpower any therapist there is with the social engineering skills you’ve developed with personality, as seen in “you’re gonna go far kid” as you seem to be insinuating, as well as the privileged information you’ve acquired on hypnosis and human sex pheromones recently, so it’s no use, unless you’re heavily sedated, unable to focus (which ties into that misdirection piece when it comes to putting powerful ISTPs in hypnotic states (his words, no mine)), and under mind control, which you’ve made clear is not an option heading forth. We really can’t speak on phenylpiracetam, but if it works, it works, especially in that hydrazide form!!
I now remember Austin expressing anger and frustration at how he missed my bridge ceremony doing notes, and giving his bridge ceremony speech to me in my room saying he wished he could tell the group how (an edit I’m making, if it’s a topic of issue) “good my ego strength is” which I would infer to mean a very ripe Ti apex (crown of my ISTP ego) with a lot of support from development from other functions in the ego, ENFJ subconscious, ESTJ unconscious or shadow (which would be the hardest to develop and use like you do, as what you’ve learned about functional emulation would dictate on the ability of different types to use functions their not familiar with in socializing), and INFP superfluous ego which is really very emotional and caring when you can focus enough to follow the conversation
Dare I also mention his persistent interest in hearing more about my fiancé in groups, amongst what I now realize with the ability to see clearly was a lack of clarity, and controversy on it amongst the group and entire bh social network. After Kyle had addressed an issue regarding it, in a way that bothered me and made me feel misunderstood. I retrieved my MP3 player from being plugged into the computer in the zone 4 pantry (mind that a lot of this has been because of her job with coding and cyber security within corrupt law enforcement), that said “what separates me” with the default song “it’s complicated” that I didn’t even put on there (a day to remember, yes). I never mentioned it with how discouraged I was by the insensitivity to the nature of our relationship that no one could’ve expected me to be in the right place of mind to describe after being hunted and dosed with levallorphan, with conventional means of communicating abruptly ceasing after I told I’d been being followed by someone along the lines of the cop that she didn’t remember telling me about and there was nothing that I could do about so I shouldn’t, after a very very deeply caring relationship with no way of reaching her effectively
What the fuck is this comment and the replies?
Every time I hear this song, or any song on American Idiot, but especially this one and Whatsername, I remember my ex girlfriend
Same. Even after 3 years.
@@johnnydjiurkopff I understand, it's been 5 years for me, but she still holds a special place in my heart. She's the one who made me realize that I'm bisexual, we met in a park; I was 15, it was 3am and I was standing on a bench, drunk as hell, singing "Walking Contradiction" while my equally drunk friends cheered me on. She was also there drinking with her friends and after I finished she told me she liked my singing, we started talking, realized we go to the same high school, have common interests (at least I think that's what we talked about, vodka made everything a little fuzzy) and things just went from there. We had so many good times, until she left town, left me.. It's been awhile and I've also left that town since, but still can't help it and think about her from time to time, it makes me nostalgic and it pisses me off at the same time. American Idiot was always her favorite album, mine was Insomniac, so we listened to both a lot and now she pops up in my mind when I hear either of them.
Sorry for the novel of a comment, it's pathetic I know, I just don't usually talk about this and felt the urge to tell someone, even if it's a stranger on the internet
@@SomedudeonUA-camB i get it, need to vent some of those emotions. Honestly it probably would be better to vent to people who would be indifferent like internet randos if not for the risk of ridicule.
@@johnnydjiurkopff Thanks for listening man. Do you have something that you want to get off your chest?
@@SomedudeonUA-camB i mean, if I'm being honest there's a metric ton i probably wanna say, but honestly what I'm brave enough to say is I'm just afraid of the future. My friends all hate eachother, my dad's going demented and i feel I'm being left behind. my hometown burnt at the end of 2018 and i wish things could go back the way they were before then. Pretty much what i assume the early twenties version of a midlife crisis is.
One of the reasons, why I don't have too many showers....as the silent generation didn't ❤🎉
What will we drink, what will we eat. Where will we sleep? Counting blessings, each cherub
The only I know when it's time for me to go is when I believe I can spend the rest of my life here. Can someone buy me a ticket to California if I need it soon?

"What's in love is now in debt
On your birth certificate" interpretation?
Well, I'm not sure. From one side, it is a reference to Jesus of Suburbia, when he says:
"While the moms and brads are away
To fall in love and fall in debt"
But in the other side, the first line shows that everything, specially love, has a price to pay. But the part about the birth certificate... I'm not sure, maybe it's saying that it is a condition we have since we are born? I don't know, but that's what I think.
Someone in 2022??
