  • This video covers my restoration of this vintage Le Turbo bicycle which was manufactured in South Africa.
    The bike is built using South African made steel but the frame was built in France by a small company called Meral. It is sporting a mixed groupset.
    It has Weinmann brake levers & calipers.
    A Solida crankset.
    Simplex rear derailleur and Suntour AR front derailleur.
    The wheel set is built using Pelissier hubs mated to Mavic MA2 hoops.
    The frame is 54cm CTT seatpost and 54cm CC on the toptube.

    Nice having seen the bike afterwards, and then watched the video - a bike ‘saved’ for the next generation!

    brought back my own early teenage memories of Saturday mornings at the LBS admiring stuff I couldn't afford :-)
    Led Davies Cycles in Morriston , Swansea South Wales. Long, long gone now. But I still remember the smell of the place - oil, grease and rubber - and the sounds of Sandy, the mechanic, in the back room. Holding back a tear now...

    Hello. Nice restoration o/ At 16:14, the numbers 4085 on the (Sachs) Huret speed lever stop are actually the build date of the lever assembly, namely the 40th week of 1985. So the bike might be slightly after that date depending on the amount of stock, speed of delivery, etc. ;)

    If bike shops are anything like skate shops, they appreciate returning customers even if they don’t buy anything, because the staff know that it’s a future sale

    LeTurbo only real with a Turbo saddle! :)
    But again, this video shows what restoration is all about: Preserve/fix as much as possible before you start putting on new parts. Great job!
    As a personal note, I wouldn't have went as far as gluing plastic parts together, because most likely it won't hold and maybe the part might not be worth salvaging. Still I like the approach: Work with what is there!

    • @BuffsVintageBikes
      @BuffsVintageBikes  3 роки тому

      Thanks Marcus and to be honest, I had fitted a Turbo saddle but it had been recovered in navy blue leather and it didn’t suit the black bar tape so I removed it 😊

      Just checked quickly, there is a Simplex FD that looks like the one on the bike, for only EUR 10 (about R 180) Yes, I know, shipping would be prohibitive if it was only for one part.

    If I need to bond anything I use a 2 part glue called araldite, leave it to cure over night, it’s never coming off, plane wings can be glued on with that stuff
