It’s been correctly highlighted in the comments that this bike needs material bar tape and tan sidewall tires. I wholeheartedly agree but neither were unfortunately available for me at short notice as I was trying to finish the bike up for Eroica SA Concourse show. The rims are actually 27x1 1/4 and finding good quality tan sidewalls is SA in that size is impossible. The owner will however replace them once he sources a set from Europe.
PX10 owner since 1972(mine is a bit older, w/the smooth contour lugs). When you get Tressostar cloth tape, also get Velox plugs, and wind from the top- the tape is thin enough for the tape ends to tuck into the bar ends, the plugs fit nicely & only need a few turns of the expansion screw. Your paint job is much better than factory Peugeot work, and will be much more durable. Good work!!
FYI If needed Cane Creek make replacement brake lever hoods although full contour . part Nos 26321 black 26320 tan. Other ID codes may be BL1447K -W02G1 for black orBL1447B-P11C2 for tan. Great to see you back.
Beautiful bike and perfect restoration. Definitely worth all the efforts! I have an almost identical PR10 from '72, luckily mine had an almost perfectly preserved frame so no need for a paintjob. For those interested in owning one of these old Peugeots, there are a few things to consider: Old french bikes have metric headsets/stems, BB's and pedal threads and it can get a headache to find replacements. Same is true for finding good Simplex derailleurs since the black plastic compound tends to crack, as you stated. Proper saddle for this bike is a Idéale 90 Rebour (also hard to find in decent condition), but the Brooks is a good replacement. The ride quality of Reynolds 531 frames is different from modern bikes; some say it feels noodly, I rather say it's springy. I used one of these frames for a restomod gravel bike and because of these qualities it's really nice and forgiving on dirt and forest roads.
Thanks Marcus 🙏🏼 You absolutely correct, there’s nothing standard on these French bikes, even extracting the crank is a challenge 😁 It does however teach you all about patience and perseverance 😉
An absolute pleasure watching this old lady being brought back to life 👍I can’t see components these days lasting anywhere near those beautiful parts cheers
Great to see you back Buff.Hope you doing well and back to riding. Great restoration work on the Peugeot ! Looking forward to your next video. All the best.
Thanks Dino, I appreciate the kind words 👍🏼 Been riding quite a lot lately hence the lack of videos but getting back into the swing of things now that winter has arrived in the Southern hemisphere 😁👍🏼
Wonderful episode. A friend has found one for me in British Columbia. It came all the way from Freiburg Germany and is blue. It has the “stepped” head lug and red head logo. Early 60s touring machine is likely a UO8? Inspired by your workmanship I look forward to its arrival. Thank you.😊
I always used to scoff at that comment but after this restoration I’m beginning to believe it to be true. Well certainly for the vintage Campagnolo components, I’m not so sure about the modern stuff 😁👍🏼
I absolutely agree with you but sadly finding both in South African is challenging. Those rims are actually 27 x 1 1/4 inch and not 700C so finding tan sidewalls in that size locally is basically impossible, they need to be imported at a cost. The owner will however replace those tires once he manages to source a set from Europe 👍🏼
Beautiful job! Brings back happy memories of my first "10-speed", a Peugeot UO-8, which was a heavy beast indeed. It had steel cranks and rims, but the plastic Simplex derailleurs. That opening shot of the original stem peeled open like a banana made me sad!
Glad to see you got a new video, I was looking to see if you had a new video the other day. I always did love Peugeot bicycles, I was never crazy about the cars shipped here in the United States. That Peugeot bicycle restoration came out excellent. Always did love your work.
Very nice reno, your best yet, maybe? Brilliant attention to detail; was a little surprised to see you hide your own resto label; i thought that whilst hiding it in the steerer tube was clever, you might have had it modestly (yet proudly) displayed somewhere visible! Inspiring video!
Thank you Chris 🙏🏼 Steven prefers having his bikes looking as original as possible hence me hiding my resto label discretely away from the public eye 😁 Hopefully someday, someone will find it and wonder who this obscure chap is from Cape Town, SA that was restoring vintage bikes 😉
stunning job sir - well worth the wait I restored my own Peugeot (a 1985 531Pro model) a few years back. They are lovely old bikes. I wonder how many of today's electro-hydraulic bikes will still be around in 40-60 years time!!
Nice to see you back Buff! Very nice resto of a French classic. I always loved the “flair” of the nervex lugs…match the French 😁 I am on the lookout for a 80’s French road bike frame so I can used a set of gold anaodized CLB professional brakes I used on an old Raleigh frame I raced on in the 80’s that is long since passed. Tough to find them at all and even more so in a 52cm. So I bought a Veneziano (from Imola Italy)SL frame for a Chorus Groupo that I have. The frame was produced by Patelli as evidenced by the unique integral rear derailleur cable routing and lugs. Looking forward to more of your restos and learning from them. PS is that a new painting area? I don’t remember you having a filtered fan… take care, Trevor
Thank you Trevor, appreciate the feedback 🙏🏼 The owner of this bike actually had a full set of gold Simplex components up for sale not too long ago, they were simply gorgeous 👌🏼 Well spotted, I upgraded my painting area with better lighting and an extractor unit. Still some work to do with bigger and better filters but we getting there slowly but surely 👍🏼
Always a real joy to see a new vid from you Brett. Great patience and care as always……..Cape Town, great place . Know the difficulties in SA of getting parts we take for granted elsewhere …….. so great job once again 👍👍👍
Great job as always Brett! A shame you couldn't save those rivets. Those Nervex lugs are gorgeous but I bet whoever had to paint all those frames felt like murdering someone
Thanks Mark, appreciate the feedback. I tried till the last to save those rivets and place the decal around them but it wasn’t working well so eventually removed them and touched up the headtube. Sadly the video doesn’t show the full struggle 😁
Thank you Patrick, the video editing is sometimes more challenging than the actual restoration for me so I appreciate it when someone realizes the effort it takes 🙏🏼👍🏼
Nice video!! One question: Do you treat the inside of the frame tubes? If so, how do you do it, and when is it necessary? Thanks for posting a new video!
Thank you. The only time I treat the inside of the tubes is if I remove the BB or Seat Post and find a lot of rust. Generally SA is a pretty dry country so it’s not a big issue here. I use a product called NS1 Rust Buster and inject it into the frame using a syringe. Then block off the tubes and swirl it around to make sure it covers everything. It neutralizes rust to a blue/black hard film. Any excess can just be wiped off without damaging the paint.
Great to see you back! Enjoyed every minute. I loved the look of the French frames of the period, Gitane, Peugeot. Finish not quite like the Italian of the time, but they sure looked the business. (Your work probably twice as nice as original!) 👍
Thanks 👍🏼 I used to have my blasting done at Cape Metal Restoration but sadly they have now closed down so I’m on the search for someone new who understands bicycle frames. I might need to resort to doing it myself in the future.
The PX-10 was my first nice frameset. I bought it as a university student. Your restoration here probably made it better than new. BTW, do you know a chap named Grahm Hall? He was a cycling friend of mine when I lived in Cape Town.
The stem was damaged by the seller when he bent the clamp open to get the bars out for shipping 🤦🏼♂️ He said the stem was seized in the fork steerer but I fortunately managed to get it loose.

Me again. Not from Europe but Japan. Panaracer Paselo 27x11/4

Glad you enjoyed the video 👍🏼 Indeed, they built parts to last back then 👌🏼
Words fail me. This bike is beautiful and your work is top notch..
Thank you David, I appreciate the kind words and support 🙏🏼👍🏼
Outstanding work! Love the details of the paint job on the frame. Very nice!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏼👍🏼
Great to see you back Buff.Hope you doing well and back to riding.
Great restoration work on the Peugeot !
Looking forward to your next video.
All the best.

Stunning. What a labour of love!
Thank you 🙏🏼

Thank you. That sounds like a wonderful bike, enjoy giving it a new lease on life 👍🏼
Amazing! I guess I need an upgrade from my rusty Peugeot UO-8 😂
A Buff Tour de Force... thanks, Brett, another stellar resto with a video to match.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏼👍🏼
Crying shame that head badge didn't work out. Beautiful restoration. Chapeau to you sir.
Indeed, saving it would have been 1st prize 👍🏼 Thanks for the support 🙏🏼👍🏼
I bought a new Peugeot PX-10 in '84 for $700 dollars. Great bike. Just a piece of Art.
Mine had a lot of Strong light components, and sew up tires.
Congrats on your acquisition 👏🏼 They really are great bikes and I’m hoping to find one for myself someday 😁👍🏼
Bearings at timecode 11:35. We always used to say that Campy " wears in " and Shimano " wears out. "
I always used to scoff at that comment but after this restoration I’m beginning to believe it to be true. Well certainly for the vintage Campagnolo components, I’m not so sure about the modern stuff 😁👍🏼
Excelent, My name is Marcelo, from Brazil. Congratulations! Very good! 👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Marcelo, glad you enjoyed the video 🙏🏼👍🏼
Very nice rebuild,I think it needs cloth handle bar tape and gum wall tires to uplift the build

Thanks Fred 🙏🏼 That damaged stem saddened me as well, some people shouldn’t be allowed near tools 🙃
Glad to see you got a new video, I was looking to see if you had a new video the other day. I always did love Peugeot bicycles, I was never crazy about the cars shipped here in the United States. That Peugeot bicycle restoration came out excellent. Always did love your work.
Appreciate the kind words 🙏🏼 I’m still not a huge fan of French cars but I can’t fault their bicycles, that’s for sure 😁👍🏼
Incredible skill and workmanship. You are the Michelangelo of bike restoration.
LOL, I’m not sure I deserve such a high accolade but thank you very much, glad you enjoyed the restoration 👍🏼

A fantastic restoration and a very well made video.
Many thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏼👍🏼

Respekt! Schöne Arbeit!!
Thank you 🙏🏼
great restoration but the cracked brake hoods are terrible, get the owner to agree to a modern replacement!
really nice work!
Thank you 🙏🏼 I quite like the old/new mix on the bike but I’ll leave that decision to the bike owner 👍🏼
Magnificent!
Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you for your video. I am trying to restore my Px10 1966 (probably), and your video help too much
Thank you for the feedback, I’m glad you found it helpful and good luck with your restoration 👍🏼
Always a real joy to see a new vid from you Brett. Great patience and care as always……..Cape Town, great place . Know the difficulties in SA of getting parts we take for granted elsewhere …….. so great job once again 👍👍👍
Thanks Kevin, appreciated 🙏🏼 Living on the Southern tip of Africa certainly has its challenges but it’s all part of the fun I guess 😁👍🏼

bellleza☺👌 , felicitaciones me encanta el detalle y pasión en la restauración
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏼👍🏼
Awesome attention to detail. Well done with loads of patience. Where you have the blasting work done in CPT?
Thanks 👍🏼 I used to have my blasting done at Cape Metal Restoration but sadly they have now closed down so I’m on the search for someone new who understands bicycle frames. I might need to resort to doing it myself in the future.

Thanks for sharing 👍🏼 I know of Graham but don’t know him personally. He’s the MD of a local bicycle parts distributor.
Superb!!!!!
Dont ride it , sleep beside it ! it looks beautiful !
Hahaha… its tempting but bikes are made to be enjoyed on the open road 😁🚴🏼♂️👍🏼
So, what did you have to do to the stem?
The stem was damaged by the seller when he bent the clamp open to get the bars out for shipping 🤦🏼♂️ He said the stem was seized in the fork steerer but I fortunately managed to get it loose.
Where in SA can you get EvapoRust
Builders should stock. I get from Brights in CT.
This is not a restauration it’s made far better than it was brand new
Thanks Daniel 🙏🏼
Buffy the Bicycle Saver!
🤣🤣🤣 I think you’ve just given me the slogan for my T-Shirt 😉
You're welcome. By the way, i am really impressed with your paint and transfer job, really first class my old Malva loving beaut'.@@BuffsVintageBikes
