Love the attention to detail. Did a fab job on the chromed parts of the fork. Learning a lot from videos like yours. Lots of great older bikes that need a loving hand. Keep it going. Thanks for sharing your methods. Hard work, but great rewards watching grunge turn into shine.
Brass wool is the ideal material to clean chrome it's definitely softer and takes it off easily without scratching at all unlike steel wool and aluminum foil (the anodized side of foil is harder than steel) ...
Put your paint stripper on and then cover it with Saran Wrap and let it sit for a while. Paint will come off with some steel wool with little effort. I wouldn't use a scraper on it, but thats just me.
Lovely. Looks first generation Campag. Super Record...front mech Nuovo Record. Super Record front mech later had black arms. Crankset -Super Record..basically cranks higher shine than the Nuovo Record and chainrings with cut outs
I think in RSA you are able to obtain evaporust and other oils and fluids that help restore and maintain bikes. In other parts of Africa we arent as lucky. What are you using to protect from internal rust within the frame? JP Wiegle's frame saver or linseed oil are some of the solutions but I cannot find either. I am using Ed's red which are homebrews that seem to have much promise for bikes although formulated for cleaning gun barrels. Anything you can suggest would be awesome. Thanks in advance.
I have the same issue with Frame Saver not being available in SA. The alternative solution is to plug the frame up and dump some Duram NS1 Rust Buster into the frame and swirl it around a bit before draining out.
@@BuffsVintageBikes It converts rust but does it provide a coating that prevents rust from recurring? I like the idea of sealing the innards of the tube from rust building up over time. But yes the first step is to eliminate ( convert ) the rust if there is any already inside the tubes. Thanks for getting back to me. Have you tried Ed's red? Its like a cheap version of a penetrating oil ( like wd40 - which is available here in its standard generic form. WD 40 also has a bunch of very specific products, including for bikes, which unfortunately is not available to me.
Hi Treve, I’ve had no corrosion issues on any of my previously polished parts. A simple maintenance program will keep them looking sharp for many years to come 👍🏼 Bare in mind many of these are show bikes or Sunday coffee cruisers and get well cared for once restored.
Splendid instructional. Watching it feels like being an apprentice to a master craftsman. Thank you!

I use naval jelly for rust remover on chrome. Easier on the. Chrome.
Interesting, I'm not sure we get that product in South Africa.
Hi! Can I ask what kind of yellow paint did you use it? It does need a primer?
I used Tamiya enamel. No primer required, just clean well with alcohol before painting.
Hi, which product do you use to clean as on the video ? Is it wd40? Thanks for your answer
