  • So the Dashboard started flashing and the AC cutting off and on in my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee WK. The check engine eventually came on and coded U1411.
Watch me replace the ignition starter switch that fixes the problem!
I would really appreciate your smashing that "Applaud" button and leaving a little something if this video helped you. Thanks!

In my experience the job will be done easily if you remove first the blend door actuator located behind the ignition key assembly. Is an easy task and make the removal of the key assembly much more simple. Nice video. Thanks

Thanks for the video. I had flashing lights on my 2006 Jeep. Everything on the dash would flash like a UFO was flying around. Then all the lights on the dash would go out including my headlights and tail lights. Couldn't tell how fast I was going so put on my GPS. They would finally come back on sometimes from hitting a bump. Thought it was my computer but maybe it's the switch.

SOLVED: Was heated Seat Control Module under seat.
My Vehicle: 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland 3.0 CRD (WK).
My Symptoms: Dash gauges dying and coming back when driving along with dash lights, check engine light, airbag light etc and associated 'bong' sound. Also, headlights flickering and radio nav screen going on and off. Heated seats buttons sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. Was also getting various service messages on the dash display.
My Solution: Removed plug from heated seat module module and found contacts partially corroded. Sprayed with electrical contact cleaner. Replaced plug. Issue 100% solved instantly and hasn't returned.
Had also suspected either ignition switch or clock-spring on steering wheel. People with similar electrical issues should check their various modules / fuses / wiring in high traffic or exposed areas for poor electrical contacts or disconnected grounds.
Seems like all the modules are interconnected and a failure or bad connection in one affects other apparently unrelated symptoms.
I thought I had an expensive / major issue but a little poking around fixed it quickly.
On a separate note my parking sensors were also not working and saying 'service park assist'. Sprayed each sensor closely and liberally with WD40 to drive out moisture. Now working 100% !

I’ve been to an electrician and now it’s at a mechanic shop, they are telling me they can’t replace or tighten up the loose ignition switch. They are saying to take it to an electrician. I think this is happening to my 2005 Jeep, we replaced the ignition as per the recall and it does the exact same thing. Either all the lights in the dash go on or the whole dash goes black and none of the needles move, sometimes the all come on and then stay off except the check engine light. The AC also seems to have a mind of its own and works when it feels like it. I saw someone else commented about theirs not working after it rains, and this has also definitely seemed to be a pattern for us. Should we re-replace the ignition switch????? It definitely seems all connected.

I have not fixed it. Still have the commander. Have been rocking a cherokee in the mean time. Biting the bullet soon and going for it. UPDATE is: My PCM actually was shorted and literally caught fire (briefly) and took out multiple eeprom chips and capacitors. I hear impossible stories of vin flashing 4 plug PCMs. My only logical option is to desauter all healthy memory chips and move them to a matching make/model/engine type pcm. (I bought several in case I mess up!) hopefully after some more practice and research of the chips, I’ll be ready to revive this beauty with a new appreciation for her glorious style. I am currently working on a '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for a friend. Apart from the 4 inches of water that was on his front driver's side floorboard due to a rainstorm about 2 weeks ago. His entire dash loses power any time it rains so I pulled the dash apart to check electrical connections. Along with finding A LOT of bad splices, there are (so far from my count) 17 T-taps that are very poorly insulated and not even remotely water resistant... So I guess my question is, without using 5 gallons of gas and a road flare, what is the best way to go about getting rid of this headache?!?!?!?

hello thank you for your video very good reference, I have a year 2006 and it has the same fault with the lights additionally it does not turn on the lights, neither the crossover, the cornet does not sound and it does not let me scan since it does not access the pcm, it could be the same fault or may be from another source thank you if you can help me greetings.

I would say it's very possible to be the ignition switch. Give it a try as it is relatively inexpensive. Let us know how it goes. Thanks for the question. Give us a follow and Subscribe as there will be more! Thanks again!

I FIXED MINE !!!! had the exact same problem on my 05 Grand Cherokee however, it wasn't a switch, the ecu, the fuse box, the alternator, the ground wires, or the wiring harness. or anything that has been mentioned, my electrician mechanic said the codes that he got were very common and are not specific to any malfunctions, they're general codes and could mean anything is malfunctioning, I suspected it was the abs because the problem would sometimes show up when I hit a pothole but that wasn't either.
    SO WHAT WAS THE PROBLEM???
    WELL HERE IT GOES.
The right front caliper wasn't working properly and that led to one of the brake pads to wear out completely while the other was barely touched, I didn't get any warning light telling me about this instead that code was triggered which in turn triggered the flashing dash and gages, so the electrician said it's very important no to neglect any aspect of the maintenance of this vehicles, he said after a couple of weeks of repairs the problem would go away by itself and IT DID,

Where would that third screw be? I believe I have a third ('05), danged switch simply will not come out. I believe this ignition switch is the cause of its not starting on occasion.

    • @OurSimpleAdventures
      @OurSimpleAdventures  5 років тому

Hi Kyle, It definitely could be the cause. Did you get it to move at all? Did you try prying it out of the holes with a screw driver? Thanks for the question!

@@OurSimpleAdventures Yep, I can get it to move, but not inward towards the dah - kind of displaces to the side. I'm not real sure - there seems to be a small arm, anchored to the structural support for the dashboard. that is somehow involved. As you know, visuals in that tight space are nigh impossible :) Only 95 d here today, maybe will give it another go. Thanks for the video!

I had my recall done today. I feel like they didn't even do it. Because my dash lights are doing the same thing as this video. I looked at the work up paper it said ignition lock. Not ignition system. So if they replaced anything it was part of the locking cylinder. Either way I am going to do this repair myself and see if it works. Thanks very much for making this video.
