I was just given this drill 5.5 amps for free from my dads friend and I love it, so much power it mixes my spackle mud so good. Also love how the electrical cord is quick remove.
I recently inherited this very same drill . The Milwaukee holeshooter drill. My mother in-law was gonna toss two of them out I insisted on taking them and noticed they appeared to be in working condition the only thing I could see wrong was the insolation on the cords were cracked. E replacement parts sells the actual cord that comes off just like he showed in the video I have one myself I did nothing a bit of cracking on the on the cord right where you lock twist it on at the bottom of the strain relief I took small piece of gorilla black duct tape I might just take some JB weld it is playing a little dab over there and should be good to go once it cures other that this old monster keeps going

No doubt an iconic drill, IMO, and not without some quirky characteristics, as you pointed out. They didn’t slap on that old warning sticker about rotational torque, for nothing! 😳 I own this drill, and My only negatives would be the fiddly lock on switch, and the Fwd/Rev switch. I rarely use the lock on switch, so it becomes a moot point. My trigger still works alright, but I have heard of them going out, so I too will be looking forward to your tear down. I have to add that in recent videos, you seem “pressured “ to cut your videos short? Maybe due to viewers comments, I don’t know, but it leads to a rushed feeling, and some choppy editing at times. I have always enjoyed your videos and the detail and observations you convey so well. That is what attracted my attention to your channel, and why I subscribed. I realize many others view your videos. I think you should give yourself some time, and not feel pressured to cut them short, or whatever. Just my two cents, and only meant in a positive way. I have Dad's 1\2 inch Hole Shooter with "gooseneck". We called it a 90 degree jack. It was a knuckle cracker. Got a Magnum in the 90's, going to put the 90 on it. Fyi, the 1950s kit included a collar type handle fitting the jack collar for use when the jack wasn't being used. Still have that too.
I have the 650rpm model, which due to gear ratio i believe is the most powerful one they made. I especially liked the cord system, for one reason being that taking it off made the drill more compact and didn't hurt the cord, which was typical for contractors tools. The cord also came in a 25' long version. I have the variable speed angle grinder from that time (20yrs ago) and it too has a removable cord set, but different connectors because it was only two pole. Really like the magnum for running hole saws thumb, or just general usage 👍
I had the same drill without the detachable cord. When I replaced it they added that detachable cord. I wasn’t happy about the cord , it’s easy enough to replace a cord without doing that. I it still my favorite drill.

One important fact often overlooked is that these drills had double gear reduction in contrast to most out there which had triple gear reduction. The two evident areas for improvement in these drills are the speed lock button and a longer handle grip to balance out your grip on the tool. But none of these are deal breakers IMHO.

i have the magnum 0299-20, having growling issue,low hours ,brushes good,tried to troubleshoot but,no luck,spins but seems shorted,and sparky, seeing carbon tracks on comutator,keeping for spare parts now
I'm in the market for a good corded drill because cordless drills have the worst runout, and I'm tired of drilling oblong holes. I'm considering Milwaukee, Sioux, and Black and Decker Industrial. Am I missing any really good brands with minimal chuck runout, and variable speed? What's the best of the best?

It began only working intermittently and after a while crapped out altogether. I was hoping to see a switch replacement. I guess I could take it to Milwaukee for repairs if they still do that.

I own this drill and the rare 90 degree separate attachment . Without question the thing has torque.

I wasn’t happy about the cord , it’s easy enough to replace a cord without doing that.
