Hi Rob, I just received my em 5 MK2 today, my first Olympus since the original Trip 35mm from the 70s. I've been setting it up using your very helpful guide here. Without this I wouldn't have had a clue. The manual I got was only the basic one. So I just wanted to say a big thank you for taking the time to do this ,it's been a godsend. I'm 70 years old so need all the help I can get. Best regards, Rob from the UK
As always an excellent, informative and easy-to-follow tutorial. I am a happy owner of this camera for 3 years now. A few days ago the histogram of the EVF stopped following exposure settings, so I did a full reset. Your tutorial was a good refresher for basic settings. And I even learnt something new!
I just bought a beautiful like new (pristine) copy of this camera in its original box with a grip and a battery holder for a sweat deal. What a fantastic little camera. I have an OM-1 and an E-M1iii, but I love the size and feel of this camera
This has been a great refresher - even after all these years. I reset all my settings back to factory defaults and went through each that you mentioned. You have such a great way of explaining it all Rob. Thank you!!!
You have really opened up this little black box for me!! After struggling through cryptic manuals for hours, in 48 minutes you have given me the tools to really begin mastering this wonderful toy. Thanks so much and keep these videos coming.
Hi Rob thank you so much for your informative videos on the Olympus EM-5 Markii. Being a bit older not a lot of content available and i would like to be as competent as possible using this camera before considering upgrades. thank you for your invaluable and easy to understand advice. Regards Bill
Thanks Rob , it's great to get the specific camera review of the camera I have . It's a little old but still very capable. I recently bought 2 EM 5 mk2 cameras both with 14/150 lenses for $900 Australian as new old stock . Fantastic little cameras. Thanks again.
That's a killer deal! I've had this camera for about 3 years, but never took it out. I just prefer my PenF. That said, I really can't wait to take it out more now that I have the grip for it. Personally, I think the EM5.2 is the pinnacle of the OMD lineup.
@@RobTrek All mark II (OM10, EM1, EM5) were very successful at Olympus, certainly the most innovative cameras when they came out. Personally, I preferred to have the OM10 II because of its tilt-only screen, which I love for street photography.
Hey, Rob! Thnx so much for this tutorial. In 2014, I bought an EM5, primarily for the IS & water seal (was headed to Scotland in sept). By 2016, I moved up to the EM5ii. In 2018, I bought the EM1ii. I still have the EM5ii & the EM1ii. Am considering keeping the EM5ii & selling the EM1ii. Your excellent overview of the EM5ii helped me understand what I actually have, & I’m realizing that for my need/style of shooting, it may be better for me. Plus, the EM1ii, while it takes beautiful images, is too heavy & big for my shaky, small hands. I’ve missed the “Style” options on the EM1ii, because I like to do night shooting. Also, the screen doesn’t have the same rotation as the EM 5ii. All that to say, I’m going to pull my EM5ii out of the box & play around with it again (based on your suggestions- the menus have always been an issue - even with the Dummies books). Your explanations/descriptions are very helpful.
Hi, I commented on this week's livestream that I was desperately looking for an explanation of the settings for the original EM-5 but couldn't find them. I just found this and was so happy! Not all the settings apply since it's one version older but as a historically Nikon and Fuji shooter, the menu system was so foreign to me. thank you so much!
I’ve owned all M5 models and the mk ii is definitely my favorite for photography. Unfortunately my 5yr old dropped it and stopped working but I miss it.

I had a Canon EOS R before, but I am looking for a small camera that I will be travelling with around Europe to capture my travels. Best regards
Definitely the EM5 MK2. It adds weather sealing, high res shot mode and focus stacking. For video, it has a mic and headphone jack. The metal used for the body is also superior. Only thing you have to be careful is shutter shock when shooting below 1/500th sec. with telephoto lenses. Try to use silent shutter mode or wider angle lenses. The EM10 doesn't have this issue.
There are two dials on top right. The Front Dial controls Exposure Compensation, the Rear dial controls Aperture. Exposure compensation makes the image brighter or darker than the metered scene. I have a video that goes into detail here: ua-cam.com/video/2JiarT5fbB0/v-deo.html

It will always depends on the price and condition of the EM5.2 vs other alternatives as EM5.3 or OM5. Also your budget. Not so long ago you could buy an OM5 for 900. I think its a very good deal. So a EM5.2 for 450 could be good.

It is better than the average iphone camera. However, there is a bit of a learning curve if you are not familiar with using this camera. So if you are a complete beginner, I'd recommend just using the iphone for now. iPhones are very capable. Is this camera better then an average Iphone camera? Is it worth is to take this camera to the journey? What do you think?:)
It is better than the average iphone camera. However, there is a bit of a learning curve if you are not familiar with using this camera. So if you are a complete beginner, I'd recommend just using the iphone for now. iPhones are very capable. As you advance, you will see some limitations when using an iPhone that a dedicated camera may solve.
@@RobTrek thank you for your reply 🙏
Can anyone help me?
I have just purchased this camera and the LCD screen doesn't work went it's fully open. It works fine when articulating but when placed back in the housing it turns off.
Any ideas? I have done a full factory reset and it still doesn't work

EDIT: just a question. was thinking of shooting some events this year. thinking of getting an em1 mark iii for the face detect. is the mark3 really that much better at face detect than the other olympus cameras? thanks again!
@@laurendelosreyes9615 Yes, it is. I tested it against my other cameras and against a Canon. It was about equal to the Canon and 10x better than previous models.
