Of all the jokes and one liners, and the running "language" gag. My favorite under-rated "dark" line, is Bruce telling Wanda he "could choke the life out of her, without even changing a shade."

One of the reasons for the hate was the Natasha sterilization convo. People interpreted it as her saying she's a monster because she can't have kids, but personally, it sounded like she was saying she thought of herself as a monster because she found it easy to kill people and the sterilization process played a part in that.

  • @Caseytify
    @Caseytify 9 місяців тому +5

So many people went nuts when Steve budged the hammer. The consensus was that A) the hammer moved, and B) he stopped because he didn't want to show Thor up.
In the comics the twins are Quicksilver & the Scarlet Witch. Fun fact: in the comics they're the children of Magneto.
Back when they were cash poor, Marvel sold the rights to certain characters, such as the X-Men to Fox. Since they were sometimes X-Men themselves, they were arguably part of the IP. Fox & Marvel came to an agreement; Fox got Pietro, and Marvel got Wanda. That's the real reason he was killed off. Fox named him Peter and Americanized him.
Yes, the MCU named him The Vision because of Thor's vision.
... There's actually a short clip of Cap (at the end) saying "Avengers! Ahh, got ya," and laughed at the camera.

For me, the high point of the film was at Barton's homestead. Natasha and Bruce revealed their inner demons to each other, Tony revealed his inner demons to Fury, and Steve and Tony had a profound talk about why the Avengers should exist. We saw the Avengers not as a Team of Heroes but a collection of complicated and flawed individuals, who are just trying to do their best.

Hey! I am Icelandic, and I know quite a bit about Norse history and mythology. This might not be interesting at all to you, but you do not have to be worthy to lift Mjöllnir at all in reality. In real mythology, it is quite literally just very heavy. Anybody could theoretically lift it or use it, but only pórr is strong enough to use it. A few have moved or stolen it, but couldn't use it. Similarly, many people can lift a 100-pound sword in real life, but very few, if anybody, can actually use it. Another thing to note is that if anybody else could use it, they would not have the best accuracy or control and would basically be burnt to dust with how hot it gets due to its strength in hitting things. When he throws the hammer to crush the skulls of invading Jötunn, the hammer becomes red hot. Þórr needs special iron gloves, Járngreipr, to handle the red hot hammer without burning himself because the hammer was sabotaged during its creation, leading to its impractically shortened handle. Additionally, he also wears a special belt of power, Megingjörð, which greatly increases his already monstrous strength, to help him better use Mjöllnir. He has and can use it without the two other possessions, but they help him more accurately throw it and use it more efficiently. Together, his hammer, belt, and gloves make up his three most important and most prominent possessions. The only other god capable of using Mjöllnir is his son Magni, who is actually much stronger than his father, who was previously the steongest god. I don't believe it is ever mentioned how he can use it, meaning if he needs the gloves and belt or not, but I would imagine he does not need them. His father just used them for convenience and better control. If he did have them, he would be even more terrifying. Both his sons inherit his possessions after his death and aid the remaining gods in rebuilding a new world.
Also, lifting the hammer means literally nothing. You do not rule anything if you can lift it. Some dwarves could lift it. Obviously, those who made it, Brokkr, Eitri, and Sindri. Loki and a few frost giants have also lifted or held Mjöllnir. Obviously, they were not able to wield it but still lift it.

Then you've got Paul Bettany (As Jarvis). Just doesn't get much better than him fr. So, for me, having the two of them simultaneously makes this movie stand out far. (And then there's Thor the Beautiful. And honorable. Be still my damn heart. Yeah I love this flick.)

I agree about Joss Whedon. Despite his various troubles, his Avengers films were the strongest. Though look out for parts three and four Evie. A bit of trivia if you don't mind. Scarlett Johansson was pregnant with her first child during the filming of this movie. Her stunt double, Heidi Moneymaker. She also stunted for her in Iron Man 2 and created the classic Black Widow fighting style. Pietro's death always hits me hard. His saving Clint and that little boy hits me in the feels. I thought the line Clint said about being made of plastic was very interesting in light of Jeremy Renner's snow plough accident at the beginning of the year. Ironically his body is now 30% titanium. I'm just so glad we still have him. I love Clint to bits. Thanks again for another Marvel reaction Evie. You'll love "Ant-Man." Sending joy and love to you and the little one.

    Great reaction Evie!
I always liked Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximov throughout phases 2 and 3. She is possibly the most powerful character of the MCU without being a cheat code because she has her limitations, her human failings and foibles, and things that keep her from being an overpowered easy solution for everything. Her character is so well written and Elizabeth Olsen is fantastic in the role.
Hawkeye once again plays the Avengers Dad role so well. In many ways he and Black Widow (the Avengers Mom) are "underpowered" in comparison to the others, but they are absolutely essential parts of the Avengers. They are the parents who keep the squabbling children of the Avengers more or less focused on the actual things that need to be done.
And Clint absolutely played the dad role 100% in the end fight in his talk with Wanda. He put no pressure on her to get involved and told her he understood and would send Pietro to get her after, but he also made sure she understood what was at stake and gave the great line, "If you walk out that door, you are an Avenger." which helped galvanize her into action.
For all the grief and taunting/teasing Pietro gave Clint throughout the movie, they had a good rapport there at the end, and Pietro's selfless sacrifice, followed by his old taunt of "Bet you didn't see that coming." before dying was awesome. So of course new baby Barton had a new middle name.
You didn't show it, but I loved the interaction between Nat and Laura at the Barton farmhouse. Laura's "Nathaniel." followed by Nat's hissed "Traitor." to Laura's pregnant belly cracks me up every time. The scenes at the farm were great because they reinforced the feeling that Clint and Natasha are closer than family. Auntie Nat was so happy to see the Barton kiddos, which made sense after the revelation of her "graduation ceremony".
And Hawkeye has an advantage in being the Avengers Dad, since he's a dad to kids of his own. Though I bet his kids are better behaved than the other Avengers. 😛
Also loved the background character carryover as we had the unnamed man from Winter Soldier who refused to launch Project Insight, even with a gun pointed at his head, alive and well and working on the helicarrier that came to rescue the Sokovians.

The title of the movie is a bit of a joke because Ultron only lives about 3 days - hardly an age.
The "I had strings but now I'm free" lines by Ultron is a reference to the Disney movie Pinochhio, where that character is no longer a puppet. That's another joke because Disney owns Marvel, and pulls all the strings on the whole MCU.
Wanda using her fingers to cast magic is referred to in a later Marvel show as "wiggly-woos". She got her powers from the Mind Stone. Any character that gets power from an Infinity Stone is especially powerful.
The Russian "Red Room" is where Natasha and other young girls were raised be spies and assassins. In addition to sterilizing her, they also used an imperfect version of supersoldier serum on her. That's why she is so fast, resilient, and good fighter. Barton (Hawkeye) hasn't had any enhancement that we have seen. He's just incredibly good at anything that requires accuracy - archery, golf, even throwing rocks.

Hey, Evie! "Avengers: Age of Ultron" is a massive film. It brings everything that precedes it together and launches the MCU into six new directions going forward while introducing eight new characters! The catalyst for all this change is a classic Avengers villain of their own making: the artificial intelligence known as Ultron bent on the extermination of organic life! The film loosely draws from the Avengers stories "Behold the Vision" and "Ultron Unlimited" with the key difference being that Ultron's creator was changed from Hank Pym aka Ant-Man in the comics to Tony Stark in the MCU.
Director of "The Avengers", Joss Whedon, returns and very nearly succeeds at keeping all the plates spinning for this encore. He skillfully globetrots from New York to Johannesburg to Seoul to fictitious Sokovia in Eastern Europe for the breathless, apocalyptic climax! During an early scene of camaraderie, Whedon invites the audience to revel in the shared humanity of these larger-than-life figures while, in a later hallucinatory sequence, he exposes their inner frailties to us nearly shattering the team. It is this attention to character that invests us in the spectacle which Whedon provides in abundance with set pieces like the punishing Hulkbuster throwdown in Jo-burg, the exhilarating car chase and runaway train in Seoul, and the all-hands-on-deck, race-against-the-clock Battle of Sokovia on a floating chunk of continental Europe against rampaging robotic legions! Whedon even provides two team slow-motion money shots to bookend the film. The connective tissue is thick in this lynchpin chapter of the saga which has ties to six future stories: "Captain America: Civil War", "Black Widow", "Black Panther", "Thor: Ragnarok", "Avengers: Infinity War" and "WandaVision"! With so much happening, it is inevitable that certain elements get short shrift such as the Thor subplot while others remain questionable choices like the Hulk's romance with Natasha. That pairing is pure MCU and was never part of their comic history. One plot element that was drawn from Marvel's secondary Ultimate Universe was Hawkeye's secret family. In the original 616 Universe, Clint was an incorrigible tomcat who has bagged practically every female Avenger! Lol. It is also Hawkeye who gets, arguably, the best moment in the film when he delivers the greatest motivational speech ever in the heat of battle.
The cast is appropriately huge and pulls from all the franchises to date. Robert Downey, Jr. returns as Tony Stark aka Iron Man with Don Cheadle as Col. James 'Rhodey' Rhodes aka War Machine and Paul Bettany as JARVIS who undergoes a major transformation becoming The Vision. A combination of synthetic organic components and inorganic vibranium controlled by an intellect that is part JARVIS, part Ultron and part Infinity Stone, he emerges as a mysterious and powerful presence sired by a villain yet capable of effortlessly lifting Mjolnir. The trope of an alien outsider who aspires to humanity is an old one but Bettany breathes fresh life into it with quiet thoughtfulness. Substituting JARVIS, Tony's new A.I., FRIDAY, is voiced by Kerry Condon. Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers aka Captain America with Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka Falcon and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter who appears in a vision. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor Odinson aka Thor to portray the character in a straightforward manner for the last time. He is joined by Stellan Skarsgard as Dr. Erik Selvig and Idris Elba as Heimdall who appears in a vision. Mark Ruffalo returns as Bruce Banner aka Hulk with Lou Ferrigno again providing Hulk's roar. Scarlett Johansson returns as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow whose Red Room past is briefly glimpsed in a vision that features one of her trainers, Madame B, played by Julie Delpy. Jeremy Renner returns as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye whose secret domestic life is revealed in the form of two kids and a pregnant wife, Laura Barton, played by Linda Cardellini. Representing the former SHIELD, Samuel L. Jackson returns as Col. Nick Fury with Cobie Smulders as former Agent and current Stark Industries employee Maria Hill as well as Aaron Himelstein as Specialist Cameron Klein who refused to launch the helicarriers at gunpoint in "Winter Soldier". Representing Hydra, Thomas Kretschmann reprises his "Winter Soldier" end-credit turn as Baron Wolfgang von Strucker as does Henry Goodman as Dr. List who portrayed his character between films on "Agents of SHIELD". Making their proper debut after their "Winter Soldier" end-credit appearance are Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Pietro Maximoff aka Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch, the Sokovian fraternal twins and Hydra volunteers who survived being experimented on by the Chitauri Scepter. James Spader's silky voice and sardonic wit bring Ultron to vivid life as a menacing A.I. bent on exterminating everything organic to fulfill his programming of ensuring peace. As a disembodied intelligence, a collective drone legion or in his vibranium chassis, he is the most formidable opponent the Avengers have yet faced. Andy Serkis does a terrific turn as the unsavory Ulysses Klaue, a South African mercenary who loses an arm to Ultron and who introduces the concept of Wakanda. Claudia Kim plays Dr. Helen Cho whose research into synthetic skin proves instrumental in the development of Vision. Ingvild Deila, who was the physical template for the CGI Princess Leia in "Rogue One", has a bit part as a technician at the internet's World Hub in Oslo. Lastly, Josh Brolin returns as Thanos for the character's third appearance in the saga.
    TRIVIA:
    1. As 20th-Century Fox studios owned the film rights to anything mutant-related in the Marvel Universe, Wanda and Pietro could not be identified as such although they are mutants in the comics. Instead, they were designated as 'enhanced' in the film. The characters were able to be incorporated into the MCU because they are Avengers in the comics which meant that both Disney and Fox had access to them.
    2. Since Ultron is nine feet tall, James Spader wore a harness with two stalks that extended three feet above his head upon which two red balls were mounted to represent Ultron's eyes! Spader's scene partners had to direct their gaze at the red balls when acting opposite him.
    3. While the JARVIS A.I. is actually an acronym that means "Just A Rather Very Intelligent System", the FRIDAY A.I. is both a reference to the '40's slang 'girl Friday' otherwise known as a secretary who provides invaluable support to her boss as well as the 1940 film "His Girl Friday" known for its snappy banter which is shared by Stark and his new operating system.
    4. A motion capture performance artist pioneer known for Gollum, King Kong, Caesar and Snoke, Andy Serkis did double-duty as Ulysses Klaue and as technical consultant on ILM's new motion capture system called "Muse" which provided more expressive rendering for the Hulk and Ultron.
    EASTER EGGS:
    1. In the comics, Dr. Helen Cho is the mother of Amadeus Cho, the seventh smartest person on the planet and a close friend to Hulk and Hercules!
    2. When Ultron first meets the twins in the church, he is draped in a crimson cloth referencing his first appearance in the comics when he hid his robotic face with a red hood and went by the moniker of The Crimson Cowl!
    3. The band playing during Cap's hallucination are identified as 'The Roy Thomas Players'. Roy Thomas was Marvel's editor-in-chief during the 1970s!
    4. Four Infinity Stones have been seen in the saga so far but "Age of Ultron" reveals that the Tesseract and the Chitauri Scepter gem are containment units for their Stones much like the Orb in "Guardians of the Galaxy" while the Aether can crystallize into a concentrated ingot!
    CAMEO:
    1. Stan Lee appears as a World War II veteran at the Avengers Tower party who unwisely imbibes Thor's potent Asgardian ale leaving him unable to walk and mumbling his catch-phrase 'Excelsior'!
    END-CREDIT SCENE:
    1. Thanos reaches into an aperture and removes an Infinity Gauntlet which he puts on and balls into a fist resolving to handle matters personally.
The next chronological stop in the MCU are Episodes 20-22 of Season 2 of "Agents of SHIELD" which concludes the second season of the show.

@@SoutheastTx .... It's a universal theme in comic book superhero stories and their film adaptations.
Hubris. Being corrupted by Power. Trying to play God - even if you "mean well".
Every major character - hero and villain - deals with his/her desire to be all-powerful, to be a messiah.
Even Steve Rogers, who is all about "doing the right thing", suffers from his personal hubris: his belief that he is always right, that he can go anywhere and do whatever he wants. He's not always right.

It is also obvious that it's a Josh Whedon movie, good humour, but also stuff like Banner landing with his face in Natasha's boobs, and the deep cleavage shots of her and Wanda. Tbh Thanos is not really a villain, i mean yeah he has done some bad stuff but so has anybody else on this planet, some more than others ofc, also being honest humanity and the planet itself would benefit immensely from having half of the current population and humans are not considered enough to be mindful of earth's limited resources but only care about making money until they finish with everything. Humanity needs and would benefit so much from a Thanos type 🤷🏻‍♂️ it is what it is

The problem with Thanos is that he wants to wipe out half of all universal life, that ofc means all species aside from human which includes all types of aliens and animals. I'd be all for it if it was only humans and only arbitrary, but it's at random, just think how many babies that couldn't even talk yet got erased! Thanos' plan has massive flaws and your opening sentence really makes it seems like you didn't think about it that much, yes Thanos is absolutely a villain.
