Captain America is tough, and he's pretty strong, but he's not invulnerable nore is he in Thor's league strength wise. The lbs per square inch that he'd bring to bare on that shield would have crushed Rodgers underneath it. In other words you don't know physics.

@@McMahonHater Since vibranium is an imaginary material you don't know the physics of vibranium. The Norse gods are also imaginary. In context, your argument has no weight because you are trying to use logic that doesn't apply. Almost everyone in the MCU can be accused of violating physics at some point or other. That makes your comment pointless.

They had only met a few days earlier, and neither knew the other's full backstory, and likely never will truly understand each other. Cap was an orphan kid, who never met his father, who died in WW1 before Steve was even born, and his mother died in 1936, leaving 18 year old Steve alone with the bare essentials of education, with a need to prove he was able to do his part despite his size and poverty. Stark grew up a very wealthy kid with an education from one of the best tech schools on the planet, orphaned at 21, who doesn't feel a need to prove anything to anyone but himself.

This film along with the whole build up since Iron Man (2008) pretty much made The Avengers household names. Before this the Avengers were not very mainstream, older people would know characters like Hulk from the great The Incredible Hulk (1977) show along with maybe Captain America and Iron Man if they were deeper into comics but there was never a big push for The Avengers. The X-Men being the most well known Marvel comic book series at the time throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Even going back to the 1990s we had the whole Marvel animated universe with Spider-Man, X-Men, Hulk, Iron Man, Fantastic Four etc Animated Series.
Out of all of these Spider-Man and X-Men were the most beloved and watched and all the Avengers got was small little cameos appearing as background characters in Spider-Man for example or an episode where Wolverine fights alongside Captain America. We then had the X-Men films starting in 2000 which are regarded as the reason the MCU exists to this day, correct also goes to Blade (1998) but alot of people had no idea that Blade was even a Marvel film. So for a good 30 decades from the 1990s to the start of the 2010s the X-Men were much more well known compared to Avengers. This film changed all of that and we got fun animated shows like Avengers: Earths Mightiest Hero's (2011) that focused on the Avengers and is really the first show to dive deep into the Avengers.
I'd say the Justice League was also much more well known as well. We had shows like The Batman Animated Series in the 1990s which gave birth to the DCAU (DC Animated Universe) with Superman Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Static Shock etc. Then in 2001 we got the amazing Justice League show followed by Justice League Unlimited in 2004 which focused on the massive side roster of characters. So DC's main Superhero team was much more well known to the Public than even the Avengers. Again this is just the mainstream audience so people who didn't read the comic books or we're just starting to get introduced to comic characters.

Great reaction as always! I agree with you that Tony's relationships in this movie are so fascinating. I think his experience in Iron Man 2 is really relevant to how he is with Bruce in this, because he's experienced what happens when you try to repress your demons, so in his own Tony way, he really is trying to help Bruce come to terms with the Hulk who, as you noticed, Bruce is distancing himself from with the "other guy" talk.

Several points; recall that Tony has daddy issues. He complains that his father didn't even like him, and he had to listen to his dad talk Captain America up his whole life. Is it any surprise he starts out resenting Steve?
Loki is a complex person, and he has an extensive character arc ahead of him. He wanted to be captured, as he wanted to instigate an incident with the Hulk. That explains the first half of that scene when they were roasting each other; Loki was stirring them up via the scepter. Note the change from "put on the suit" in a hostile way, to just after that we have "put on the suit" in an entirely different context.
A small point many may have missed when Thor escapes the murder capsule. He noticeably hesitates before picking up the hammer. He concerned that he's no longer worthy. His confidence is no longer limitless.
As for the Hulk sucker punch, he hadn't forgotten the fight on the Helicarrier. I think after that he considered Thor & him even. 😏

Thanks for mentioning Joss Whedon and Buffy at the top. I was also a big Buffy fan (and was in high school when it was on) so it was a big thing in my life. But as I get older, I can see the problematic elements in Whedon's storytelling more clearly.
I like this movie. I haven't watched in in awhile because I have been upset by some of the revelations against Whedon. I do think some of the characters are more jokey than we usually see them and aren't totally consistent. But I have read in news articles that he was the one who insisted there needed to be a female Avenger (an early draft had Wasp/Janet Van Dyne because Scarlett Johansson was said to be unavailable, but then when she became available this was the result). And I hope, SJ was by then a big enough star that he couldn't be awful to her like he was to Charisma Carpenter, Michelle Trachtenberg and Gal Gadot. (Although the storyline he gives SJ in Avengers 2: Age of Ultron is definitely problematic.)
I guess it's sad that movie execs had to be told there should be a female character in their film, but, you know, Hollywood. JW's "genius" was to stay "hey women have stories too" but then he treated them shitty while telling them, so it wasn't THAT much progress.
ETA: Possibly fun fact, that is Alexis Denisof (Wesley from Buffy and Angel) who places the hooded alien who opens the film and is the go-between for Thanos and Loki. So he can establish normal working relationships with men!

If you like Joss Whedon's work, you really should check out the series "Marvel: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". But don't start it immediately after this movie. It actually ties to the Marvel movies starting after "Iron Man 3".

Hey, Evie! "Avengers" was a game-changer and the proof of concept of Feige's grand plan! Team movies weren't anything new as we had already seen the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Mystery Men, Watchmen and the Incredibles in action by this point but a multi-franchise crossover event hadn't been done since the Universal horror cycle of the '40's and, certainly, not on a scale this immense! This movie is the very definition of a thrilling Hollywood blockbuster and it shattered every record! Who knew we were only being teed up for something even bigger?
The in-universe timeline up to this point: "First Avenger" is from 1942-1945, "Agent Carter: Season 1" is in 1946, "Agent Carter One-Shot" is in 1947, Ang Lee's "Hulk" is from 2005-2006, "Iron Man" is in 2009, Fury's Big Week including "Iron Man 2", "Incredible Hulk" and "Thor" is in 2010, Cap is thawed in 2011 and "Avengers" is in 2012 with "Iron Man 3" occurring at year's end 2012.
Marvel Comics assembled "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" in September 1963, the same month the X-Men debuted and two years after the Fantastic Four. Whereas the other groups were privately financed and comprised of members who were linked by blood or genes, the Avengers were a more motley crew subject to government oversight. Their headquarters was a mansion gifted to the team by Tony Stark located on 890 Fifth Avenue in New York City nestled on the eastern edge of Central Park complete with a butler named Jarvis to attend their needs. As in the movie, the team would travel around the globe in sleek compact planes called Quinjets. The five founding members were Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, Wasp and Hulk. The team found Captain America in the ice and thawed him out in the fourth issue. He was granted honorary founding status and has been with the group through almost every incarnation often leading as Chairman. As in the film, it was Loki's mischief that brought the heroes together whereupon they decided they should gather regularly to tackle any situation that was too much for any one them alone. Borrowing again from Marvel's alternate universe, the 1610 Ultimate Universe, the Chitauri are introduced as Loki's invasion force in the film since the Ultimate-equivalent of the Avengers united for the first time to battle that species. Credit goes to the Wasp's Janet van Dyne for coming up with their name, the Avengers. Over the years, the roster would rotate frequently as a diverse group of beings filled the ranks of the organization including humans, superhumans, mutants, inhumans, atlanteans, eternals, sorcerers, androids, aliens, demi-gods and deities. The team's battle cry was simple: "Avengers Assemble!"
Joss Whedon was an ideal choice for director. Having cut his teeth on "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" and "Firefly", he understood how to ground fantasy and sci-fi with clashing team dynamics. As a comic book enthusiast and writer, he was well-versed with the Marvel sandbox and this movie hums under his sure hand.
As this is a team movie, the cast is a bunch of familiar faces with a couple of new additions and everybody gets their moment to shine. Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark aka Iron Man, Gwyneth Paltrow as Virginia 'Pepper' Potts, Paul Bettany as JARVIS and Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow carry over from the "Iron Man" films. Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson aka Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki Laufeyson aka Loki, Stellan Skarsgard as Dr. Erik Selvig and Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton aka Hawkeye carry over from "Thor". Chris Evans as Steve Rogers aka Captain America carries over from "The First Avenger". Samuel L. Jackson as Col. Nick Fury, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson and Maximiliano Hernandez as Agent Jasper Sitwell return as the faces of SHIELD with new addition Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, right-hand woman to Fury. Mark Ruffalo replaces Edward Norton as Bruce Banner aka Hulk but Lou Ferrigno remains on hand as the voice of Hulk. Powers Boothe and Jenny Agutter play World Security Council members who carry over into "Agents of SHIELD" as Gideon Malick and "Winter Soldier" as Hawley, respectively. Whedon alum Alexis Denisof plays the Chitauri spokesman known as The Other in heavy prosthetics who appears again in "Guardians of the Galaxy". Surprisingly, distinguished Polish writer-director-actor Jerzy Skolimowski pops up as corrupt Russian General Luchkov who gets outplayed by Natasha. Esteemed character actor Harry Dean Stanton has a wry bit as a custodian who witnesses the Hulk's transformation, New York character actor Robert Clohessy has a funny bit as an NYPD Sergeant who questions Cap's credentials, veteran character actor Kenneth Tigar has a moving bit as a defiant old German man, prolific character actor Jamie McShane has a quick televised bit as a celebratory bystander, all-American character actor Warren Kole plays a SHIELD tech on the helicarrier bridge and Ashley Johnson, the voice of Ellie in "The Last of Us", shows up as Beth, a grateful waitress. Enver Gjokaj, who would later be cast as Daniel Sousa in "Agent Carter" and "Agents of SHIELD", briefly appears in an unrelated role as a New York cop!
    TRIVIA:
    1. Harry Dean Stanton was famously killed by the xenomorph in "Alien" so, when he asks a naked Bruce Banner if he's an alien, it's a tongue-in-cheek nod to his former role.
    2. RDJ ad-libbed a lot of dialogue including the faux-Shakespeare routine with Thor, the "Galaga" quip on the bridge, the shawarma comment when he's revived and the character nicknames like Legolas for Hawkeye.
    3. Mark Ruffalo ad-libbed the roar that awakens Tony from unconsciousness after he falls back to Earth.
    4. Chitauri is Zulu for 'serpent race from the sky'.
    5. Jeremy Renner was trained by Olympic archers in the use of his bow.
    6. Shawarma sales skyrocketed after this movie!
    EASTER EGGS:
    1. Loki's body temperature registers as blue on the infrared monitor trained on his cell because of his Frost-Giant physiology.
    2. Odin's pet ravens Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory) fly past Thor and Loki on the outcrop after Loki is taken from the Quinjet.
    3. One of the trading cards in Coulson's collectible set features the cover of "Captain America" # 1 which illustrates Cap socking Hitler on the jaw.
    4. The mind-controlling Chitauri scepter makes its first appearance in the saga and is the second alien artifact of power to affect our heroes after the space-spanning Tesseract.
    CAMEO:
    1. Stan Lee appears in a cameo as a chess-playing senior citizen who expresses disbelief about superheroes being active in New York.
    END-CREDIT SCENES:
    1. The Other reports the Chitauri defeat to Thanos who smiles at the prospect of 'courting death'. This is Thanos' first appearance in the saga. His smile is a reference to his comic counterpart who actually is in love with the personification of Death.
    2. The exhausted team gorges themselves on shawarma post-battle having taken Tony up on his suggestion.
The next chronological stop in the MCU is the ONE-SHOT featurette called "ITEM 47" about Chitauri tech falling into the wrong hands. It is found on the "Avengers" blu-ray or on DPlus.
Don't forget to watch it or the AGENT CARTER ONE-SHOT which can be paired with "Captain America: The First Avenger" or be viewed as a coda to the "AGENT CARTER" series.
If you want to see "AGENT CARTER", the first 8-episode season is EXCEPTIONAL, occurs before the One-Shot and can be seen after "Avengers" as an interlude between phases.
The "Man Out of Time" DELETED SCENE which includes Stan Lee should not have been cut from the film and is definitely worth a look!

There’s a lot (a lot a lot) of Buffy Easter eggs in Whedon’s MCU films (and at least one Firefly easter egg I know of). I mean, I haven’t verified they’re Easter eggs; they’re just things I noticed. So, grain of salt. :)
    A couple of this film:
Darla: Remember Budapest? (Buffy 1x07, I think)
Natasha: Just like Budapest all over again!
Hawkeye: You and I remember Budapest very differently
And this, although I wouldn’t argue with someone who said it was a bit thin:
Ford: He’s not in school, right? He looks older than her
    Xander: you’re not wrong
    (Time passes)
    (Ford shakes hands with Angel)
    Ford: whoa! Cold hands.
Xander: you’re not wrong (Buffy, “Lie to Me”)
Cap: It seems to run on some form of electricity!
    Tony: Well, you’re not wrong.
    Enjoyed the reaction; cheers.
